What a shit ending.
>>
9/10 games have a shit ending
>>
>>744677751
i don't think so no
>>
>>744677751
Write a better one real quick.
>>
It ages like a fine wine.
>>
>>744678123
You know people give Fallout New Vegas's ending shit, but I like it. Like a cowboy riding away from the town he save at the end of a movie

>Where are you going mister?
>Wherever I'm needed

https://youtu.be/cCEwUFtjAr4
>>
>>744678292
How?
>>
>>744678123
Extremely well rendered and sweaty sex with Mercedes.
>>
>OP hates FREEDOM
lol
>>
>>744679754
You learn what it means to be a Dragon's Dogma enjoyer. The veil has been lifted, and on the other side, goblins, NPCs, pawns, Dragons, and Arisen. That's you. You the player are Arisen.
>>
>>744679883
>Death = freedom

Only to the depressed and retarded. Is this a Japanese thing?
>>
>>744680812
Death is a figure of speech. You either get it or you don't. Greener pastures that whole thing.
>>
DD1 is perfectly fine.
DD2 goes too far IMO in terms of tying the Brine to the story, instead of it just being a fun nod at the start of the game when Rook gets brined in a kind of monty python style gag.
Though most of it is me not liking the worldforged, or whatever he's called.
>>
>got to the end game and I could end the story right now
>started bitterblack isle
>got to a point where enemies felt too powerful and I was just running past them
>put the game down and haven't played in a while
Should I just keep banging my head at BBI or finish the game and try again in NG+?

I thought it was good enough
>>
>>744681416
My advice is to never leave endgame unless you want to redo story content for nostalgia purposes or want a fresh character. Getting to the Everfall is a huge hassle, which is why people eventually just beeline to bitterblack once they get used to the game's quirks.
>>
>>744681416
you should start the dlc around level 70-80 and with a vocation like magick archer or mystic knight with really good daggers and bows, i personally beat the game then started Bitterblackisle after meeting the duke in NG+
>>
>>744681416
I had to get into BBI little bit by little bit and only progress slowly
It took my character a while to get powerful enough where he wasn’t fucked over by the guys at the entrance
Maybe I got better at the game too, who knows
at any rate I only progressed slowly
but it was very satisfying because I had to git gud
usually I do all the sidequests and so I get a lot of character levels compensating for me being ass at video games
BBI reset that late-game, where I had a bunch of different mechanics at my disposal and actually had to think about how to use the tools I’d been ignoring
>>
>>744681416
Your goal in BBI should be to get the BBI exclusive weapons/armor/gear by purifying cursed items from specific chests that can be farmed by either resetting the rooms as 7 in game days pass or by saving, checking the item and godsbaning yourself if it's not a cursed item and repeating until it is a cursed item.
>>
So in 2, is it implied that the brine was formed by dragons and arisens falling into the sea before their cycle could beat the seneschal?
>>
>>744682309
The brine are a plot point in 2? That's bizzare. I thought they were just an excuse to keep you out of deep water, like the leaches in Half Life.
>>
>>744682309
More or less. it's implied that pawn possession is rooted in failure to achieve the cycle.
>>
>>744682750
2 has a weird mix of "full explanations of stuff that happened in DD1" and "new explanations for stuff specific to the franchise itself"
>>
>>744682309
No from what I understand the brine is part of an entity from a higher plane called the Watcher that enforces the boundary of the world and observes the dragon/arisen conflict that gives the world meaning.
>>
I hope kinoshita watched the netflix anime, and includes "arisen mode" so we can say "it's arisen time" and arisen all over the place
>>
>>744679849
I went for her when I played years ago. Gave her the ring and did everything to boost her affinity. Then I get to the end scene and found out my beloved was the fat fucking innkeeper because I talked to him so much managing my inventory. I shut the game off right there and never did finish it. What a stupid system lol
>>
>>744677751
Didn't like that your waifu became you?
>>
>>744685385
Yeah it's some weird tranny shit.
>>
>my beloved is caxton
>make it stop
>pawn takes my place
>does not want

hah fag i'm out of the cycle
>>
>>744685565
your pawn is supposed to be a watered down clone of you, people just see they can make a waifu and do so.
>>
>>744685602
You can romance him?
>>
>>744681416
The problem is that is a pure stat check and if you don't get BBI new items you won't do shit, so your main goal is to rush to these chest to get the cursed equipment
>>
>>744689515
How are you supposed to do it without Rift Fragments? I barely got any in my run because no one hired my pawn. Maybe no one is playing, maybe no one wants to hire a warrior, but I thought she looked nice.
>>
>>744689624
By abusing items that boosts your stats like periapts, eat three of these and you now will see that you can do damage to BBI monsters, the problem again is that this is never needed during the base and BBI demands it
>>
>>744689624
All the stronger BBI monsters drop Rift Crystals.
>>
>>744682309
The brine in Dragons Dogma 2 is the Archons of gnoticism trying to fuck you if you dare to leave the place, while the Demiurge here calle The Watcher eat popcorns, an absolutely shit take in comparison to DD1 story if you ask me

I used to hate it, but I kinda see the point of it. i still would prefer if your pawn just got free will of their own rather than puppeting you body after your death, but the point was made.

/thread
Quina is my girl (and I got her on my first try), but Mercedes is top-tier too.

>>744685309
That was a genuine problem in the older versions. they had to decrease the affinity gain of shopkeepers in Dark Arisen when you talk to them so that wouldn't happen. also, just brandish and holster your weapon in front of shopkeepers and the inn guys for a minute or two so their affinity hits zero. And don't do their quests.
>>
>>744682309
Who cares, it's fucking stupid
>>
>>744691213
It's more the thing about your character just dying that I don't like. The Japanese have a weird relationship with death.
>>
>>744691516
I don't mind death and sacrifice in game endings so long as it has a solid reason for being there. In this case, it makes sense: the only way to escape eternal return is death. At least it wasn't in vein since it gives the world a new life and (possibly) ends the cycle along with giving you close companion and pawn the freedom he/she deserves. Could do without the cucking though although at least best girls recognize the pawn's soul in your body isn't you.
>>
Japanese are so obsessed with killing God they force you to kill yourself after you become God
>>
>>744677751
kinda crazy how the main menu song spoils the ending of the game
We'll kill ourselves in the end?
>>
I don't get what's so bad about the cycle of the Seneschal. Seems like a good system. The world itself determines if it's worthy to go on or not by producing just one real nigga with a strong enough will to recharge everything.
>>
>>744691213

>muh happy ending
It's more interesting when things end on a bittersweet note, not everything has to be a fairytale.

Because retarded Buddhism and nihilism.... le good!
>>
>>744693320
Yeah, no shit shit Sherlock. Happy endings only happen regularly in Asian massage parlors. I'm fine with the ending being very bitter but still having enough hope that the cycle will eventually end and having your pawn become a free creature. I just thought the part where he/she lives with your Beloved was kind of lame, but even then it was a good ending.

To the japanese, god isnt the be-all and end-all of all existence that exists outside of all creation, god is just another western creature like a mineatur or a dragon or zeus. They dont believe in that shit. Shinto doesnt really have gods or a god like monotheism does. It's a foreign concept to them that has no cultural reference point.
>>
>>744693682
Japan as 7 million gods or some bullshit, and anyway it's more like a system than the will of a supreme deity exercising some arbitrary will upon mortals like the Greeks
>>
>>744693774
In japan, theres a god of the trees, god of the mountains, god of the deers, god of the erections. Hardly comparable to monotheistic tradition.

>>
>>744691213
the pawn isn't puppeting your body, their own body changes into your appearance. the game explains how the bestowal of spirit works more specifically in the Selene sidequests, and makes it clear that it includes the pawn progressive looking more and more like their arisen
your arisen is still ruling the world as senechal, which is shown by beating the game for a second time in offline mode
>>
>>744677751
sorry anon, but THE WIND IS PUSHING ME
>>
>>744687858
Yes.
Before Capcom patched the mechanic, a lot of players unintentionally maximised affections of certain NPCs - usually people they talk to frequently for purchases.
That includes Fournival

>>
>>744693361
What are you 10?

>>744693497
you seem unreasonably mad for someone that agrees with me
>>
>>744693268
the problem is that the senechal inevitably begins questioning the triviality of a self-serving cycle
they're a person with enough will to rise above the life of a puppet, and then they're shown that the entire world is a farse which they get to oversee as puppeteer. of course they're gonna despise such a cynical, cold design
>>
>>744694658
I'm not mad. I was just saying that I didn't get it until I did.
>>
>>744694994
>I'm not mad
no shit sherlock
>>
>>744693320
I like happy endings. Also how does killing yourself actually fix anything? I thought it just freed you from being a trapped god.
>>
>>744695491
>how does killing yourself actually fix anything?
It doesn't. The cycle is endless and cruel and now you know.
>>
>>744695491
you people are still misunderstanding the ending of a decade-old game...

you don't kill yourself, and you don't fix anything. your first character is still rulling as senechal when you beat the game a second time. the cutscene where the previous senechal takes the godsbane from their own chest shows how a suicide stab has no effect
the ending is happy for your pawn, who gained humanity through their experiences with you and is now able to live a fulfilling life detatched from their servitude to you, much like Selene. still, the world continues to be the same cynical farse bound by the same cynical cycle
>>
>>744695621
>>744696036
That's not bittersweet that's just a pointless shit ending. So my original point (I'm OP).
>>
>>744696036
what is so cynical about it, the world goes on, people live and die, we see that history happens just like anywhere, just once in awhile everyone the world grows dim and needs to be reinvigorated. If you want to say the dragon causes destruction he barely did anything except vaguely threaten Cassardis then fucked off for a long time. Here in the west a fantasy where you galvanize the world and and pull it back from entropy would be seen as triumphant.
>>
Another issue I guess I have is why is the senshal imprisoned? Like he's god, why is he stuck? If god is all powerful then from whence does his imprisonment come? Who made it like that?
>>
>>744696112
The arisen lives a life of glory and duty and at the end they pass on so that the next arisen can take his place. The people of their world do not know this but we do. We venerate those with the will to keep the world going because without them the world will simply wane and die.

it's not pointless. it demonstrates that despite the meaninglessness of living, people can still find happiness and fulfilment by chasing that meaning, and are able to share and inspire that meaning to their fellow men via their everyday human interactions
it might be a step more sophisticated than the endings you're used to, but you just need to think a little more about it to understand the message it's conveying. picrelated, the first thing you see once you start the game. it's not trying to hide it's core message from you
>>744696205
the cynicism comes from being able to peek behind the veil as senechal and seeing how everyone's lives are pratically pre-determined by an aimless design. the cycle is self-serving and doesn't seem to accomplish anything besides keeping the gears turning. all your personal growth that lead you to rising to the highest rank rewards you with the privilege of being the biggest gear
>>744696394
the senechal is only powerful enough to fulfill his role at maintaining the cycle
>from whence does his imprisonment come?
the second game tackles that question. spoilers:
essentially, the cycle is mandated by some fundamental entity (god) that some way or another wants the world to play out much like a stage play. the senechal of the second game refused the cycle and abandoned his post, ignoring his role in the play. this forced the entity to interfere more directly to keep the cycle going
>>
>>744697401
>the cycle is self-serving and doesn't seem to accomplish anything besides keeping the gears turning.

literally keeping the world going and not sliding into cold death is not accomplishing anything? There doesn't seem to be anything that implies people's lives are meaningless or predetermined, if that were true then Arisen wouldn't be defined by their strong will but would just be born as chosen ones already set for their role

You mean the first game? Isn't that what you do in the end? Also you can't really interact with the world. You can't go do quests or talk to people, it feels like you're trapped. And the guy before you begs you to kill him.
>>
Anyway, in conclusion of my playthrough: the game itself is rather fun. Character creation is really good, especially for a game of its age. It's quite easy to get locked out of quests and the game doesn't do a good job of encouraging you to explore, but that might be my habit of rushing everything. The magic system is one of the coolest I've seen in a game, it feels more unique than magic does in other games. Combat can be a bit frustrating, sometimes you can't do any meaningful damage to a boss with the tools you have, and your pawn that can do damage is too retarded to take advantage of it. The everfall is one of the worst dungeons I've ever seen in a game and the ending sucks dick.

7/10
>>
>>744698091
no, I mean the second game. Rothais fucked off to the ocean floor and stopped sending dragons to keep the cycle going
and about the first game, see >>744696036
the senechal can only be killed by another arisen who has proven himself capable of taking the throne. refusing the cycle via suicide doesn't work
you are pretty much trapped, but that's also for gameplay limitations. the game would probably end all broken if you could roam everywhere and fight monsters while being an immortal see-through guy
>>
>turns out the kingdom's hero pussied out at the last minute, but you have a chance to make the legend come true

reminds me a bit of the nerevarine stuff in morrowind
>>
>>744698525
You literally see your corpse falling through the sky at the end. It really seems like you're dead.
>>
>>744698791
Never played Morrowind. What exactly is the Nerevarine? And why does the title sound the same as Shezzarine? I know that the Nerevarine is supposedly Nerevar reborn, but is that actually the case or just some copium by Azura?
>>
>>744698791
Itsuno is on record as saying Fable and the Elder Scrolls games (specifically Oblivion although Morrowind is probably included by proxy) was an influence on Dragon's Dogma.
>>
>>744698924
>but is that actually the case or just some copium by Azura?
The game ultimately leaves it ambiguous. You, the player, fulfill the conditions of Azura's prophecy but so did many others before you. Are you successful in defeating Dagoth Ur because you are the Nerevarine, or did you become the Nerevarine because you defeated Dagoth Ur?
>>
>>744698798
think of the Everfall: falling just brings you back up
and think of the brine too, that sends you back to land if you try going into the water. it's a gameplay mechanic that forces you back into the playable area, but it's also an in-universe entity that restrains the arisen within the machinations of the cycle
at the end, only your pawn (with their inherited appearance) washes on the beach. they give the ocean a nod, with a smile, as if they understand that you're not really dead
>>
>>744699153
really, Fable? that's cool, I had no idea. do you have a link to that interview?

nevermind, I found it myself
https://www.videogamer.com/features/dragons-dogma-how-hideaki-itsuno-is-taking-on-skyrim-and-the-world/
>Itsuno grew up with Dragon Quest and says that the series made a huge impact upon him, but he also cites experience with numerous Western RPGs: Dragon Age, Fallout, Fable and Oblivion all get a mention, with the latter two singled out as being particular influences on his current work.
