is there literally any point in using a different weapon?
>>
>>744688470
Well yes you see when you reach endgame level range and have approximately 8% of the content remaining you get an even cooler big sword
>>
DLC has better weapons but for base game, no.
>>
Yeah, you want to play Bloodborne and not better-Dark Souls.
>>
cant decide if I like BB, Sekiro or Elden Ring the best.
>all 3 have gorgeous artstyles and wildly different settings that all look beautiful
>BB has the best feeling combat, but Sekiro is more skill demanding/rewarding and ER has the most freedom and variety
>BB coolest weapon designs for sure
>Sekiro has the most coherent/best story because its not typical 2cryptic shit
>ER has the best level design at its peak and an epic scale of content
>Sekiro and BB are paced way better however
>Sekiro has the best boss fights but no DLC hurts it
>BB is the game I want to replay the most
its so close its hard to say. The first half of DS1 would be up there too but post-londo is too shit for me to put it in the same rank

"blunt" is just physical damage you stupid retard. just about every weapon deals it.
thrust is specified because it deals extra damage against kin,
the damage attributes are physical, blood, arcane, fire, and bolt
weapon attributes include thrust (more damage against kin), righteous (more damage against cainhurst enemies), and serrated (more damage against beasts)

physical damage is divided between normal and "non-normal", which is itself divided between blunt, thrust and blood but still within the physical damage group, so physical modifiers such as runes affect all four, and blunt/thrust/blood also by specific damage boosts or reductions to blunt or thrust or blood

except for physical defense, which is actually all damage reduction, elemental and typeless included, and that clothing defenses work completely differently and only apply to the specific value listed for each instead

I hate the NG+ system cause you're overpowered and it's a cake walk until you loop a couple times, but why bother?
Would much rather they let you choose any weapon in the game to start a new run with. That way you get a totally different feeling playthrough from the start soul level 0 so it's the same level of challenge. I do this with mods and it's great but really it should be built in.

The three best From games are Bloodborne, Sekiro and AC6. Elden ring isn’t even close to better than DS1 and while I love it, DS1 isn’t better than Bloodborne.

Sekiro and AC aren’t going for the same thing but excel effortlessly in their genre they’re auto picks.

>Thats because the games are designed with NG+ in mind
Then they should probably add stuff to NG+ to make it a fresh experience that you would actually want to experience, rather than just "oh boy, I get to fight [early game boss] with [late game weapon]! yippee!"
Have the NG+ be the challenge for the sickos after NG is the version that the average player is expected to clear. Remix things, have NG+ versions of areas to surprise the players. Extra traps. Meaner enemy placement. Something beyond just "exact same shit but enemies have a bit more health (you still mop the floor with them)".
No, I don't believe these games are at all designed for the NG+ experience. Not even 2.

Demon's souls and Dark Souls (1) made paradigm shifts in the gaming industry, and the Sekiro did it again with the deflection mechanic, leading to many games adapting that as well.

The slow R2 on stake driver is a meme. The actually good one is the stake-out R2 thrust, charged or uncharged. It's very fast and does excellent damage, has surprising range for a fist weapon and is amazing for staggering bosses.

Fromsoft needs to look at how games like Dragon's Crown & Nioh handle NG+ difficulty cycles rewarding and challenging players in new ways. Higher player level ranges could actually be somewhat justified if there was a tower of mirages-esque true endgame, which like Nioh takes multiple NG+ cycles to get full access to.
Sure Fromsoft bosses get more challenging at around NG+6, but they dont get any new moves, traits, properties, or make it so they now have massive stance-gauges so it takes a lot more to stance break them for a critical hit.

>Trick weapon
This is basically just transforming weapons and has been done before and after, it's a cool gimmick but ultimately it's just a gear thing
>Rally system
I'm not entirely sure Bloodborne invented the rally, but it shows up after in and off the genre. Ultimately, they're not fundamental game mechanics and they're more just layering onto BB's design philosophy of aggressive fights and crafty hoonters. I'd figure if any mechanic was going to take off, the gun parry would though it's just a ranged Dark Souls parry.

Ultimately, Bloodborne is just fast Dark Souls (Lovecraft ed), and if it does have a legacy the legacy would be the increase in game pace and speed following the release, nearly every soulslike uses the faster game tempo now, less focus on gimmicky bosses and more of a focus on mechanic challenges.
>>
>>744707723
leyndell is bigger, more complex, more secrets to find, more challenging, more visually varied, with an entire sewer section that is big enough to be its own seperate dungeon. at best its debatable, its not "easily" winning. and stormveil is better than btoh

I thought about mentioning Nioh in my post but frankly the things Nioh does with its NG+ only works because of its loot system. Unless fromsoft added a similar loot system (or perhaps something like the nightreign system of weapon effects?), I don't see how playing the same game but skipping half the shit but the enemy placement is a little bit different and some enemies are stronger would be enough of an improvement over what they're already doing.

Frankly what I'd like to see is this: Have the NG+ be the supercharged version of the base game. Bosses are Everdark equivalents; they start in their 2nd phase and have an additional, NG+ only 3rd phase. Enemy placements are remixed to be a lot more challenging. (Optional) Have weapons found in NG+ have additional modifiers not found in NG versions, still giving you a reason to find loot (maybe have an item found later into NG+ that lets you enchant your weapon with a modifier so it's not pure gacha RNG nonsense). Enemy stats are tuned to be much more challenging than the NG version relative to expected player power, making NG+ into a real challenge that demands a lot more out of the player. Basically, have it be a mountain for the player to scale. The people who are playing NG+ are looking for this kind of experience anyway. There doesn't need to be deep-scaling NG+ (like going to NG+9 or whatever), instead Nioh's system of each DLC adding another layer of NG+ is pretty good IMO.
But I'm just dreaming here. Ah well.

ER's level design suffers greatly from the decision to put graces right after shortcuts, completely invalidating their existence.
>>
>>744710695
>ER has the best level design is an insane take..
it's really not. I just played all 3 of those games back to back, and Stormveil+Leyndell were the best and most memorable levels of all 3 games. Fountainhead palace, Ashina Castle were great too. Bloodborne's levels are consistently good BUT have a problem with visual variety in my opinion. Besides the forbidden woods and Cainhurst castle, all the different levels just blended together.

>>
>>744711439
Leyndell is pretty, but it doesn't feel nearly as immersive, varied, or challenging as Central Yharnam to me. Stormveil is definitely better but still falls a little short. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why, but I think it's because Central Yharnam is designed to provide you with a wide range of different challenges and build-starting options while Leyndell and Stormveil are less integral to the game as a whole. Yharnam is also laid out in such a way that basically every enemy encounter in it is a different kind of experience, from the steamroller pig down the tunnel to the noob-fucking wolves on the bridge to the crowd around the bonfire to the super-aggressive executioner guy down a side alley right at the beginning. It's just a very memorable experience to go through. Leyndell and Stormveil's fights mostly feel more like regular groups of enemies.

Biggest issue: by the time you reached Leyndell the game ran its course at least twice, next to nothing besides the trumpet dudes is actually new to you and you're mostly just going through the motions.
There's barely anything in it to do besides fighting the same tree spirits, avatars, crucible knights, standard knights - mustard flavor, etc. again with no special interactions or new NPCs to speak of and to - ffs, there's probably more unique shit happening in Aldia's Keep and that's just a goddamn glorified corridor.

Central Yharnam is right at the start, so it has new things here and there, quests, unique shit and more.

Damage is very okay if you (obviously) also invest in arcane, otherwise it's not gonna get you far. But compared to other weapons like it, it's a lot faster, and has substantial stagger potential. Also the regular R1 is so satisfying.

Love it. The best hit I ever landed with it was finishing off Maria as she rushes into it at point blank range while it was firing. I must have gotten a counter damage boost or ariel damage boost because it did a fuckton of damage. Also finished off Ludwig with it but it wasn't as cool.

No but seriously I tried every weapon and the Arm is what I kept coming back to. Beast Cutter just didn't do it for me.
>>
The Holy Moonlight Sword mogs it in such a pathetic way, it's undear. You can spam R2 stab all day and decimate the entire game so much more efficiently that this. The obvious downside is how late you get it since it's a DLC weapon, and the fact that it needs arcane to be utilized properly.
>>
>>744712952
Blunt Gems save this thing
>>
>>744712952
I tried both on/off, and even though the cutter has longer reach and more stagger potential, the arm does alot more damage and is significantly faster. Both have an R2 (albeit the arm get's a charged one) that flattens everyone, but the arm's is much better WHILE dealing additional damage on them and around them. The only downside, per-se, is the last R1 being an overhead instead of continuing the horizontal swipes, but at least it staggers very nicely.

I can't imagine normal niggas living in ER cities, i can imagine normal niggas roaming Yharnam, the city is another character of the game.

Bloodborne is just a better game, all around. Even with the scale and all the bells and whistles, BB is such a fine and well crafted contained experience, it blows everything ER could have ever done out of the water. I mean, you could show someone a screenshot of ER and tell them it's from Dark Souls (3) and they might believe you, but there's no mistaking BB. On every aspect that game is distinct.
Believe me, I like ER a lot, it's a great game, but BB is the best game From (Miyazaki at least) has ever done. Period.

The R2 has a learning curve, but it does incredibly damage (especially as elemental fire when you oil up the enemy first) and it is super satisfying learning when you can use it on each boss and pulling off the big hit. STR/ARC is what I did in my latest playthough, and it was very good, though as with many hybrid build you get the better weapons for them later int othe game. Chikage feels weirdly ng+ for how early you can get it. But at the same time, leveling Skill and Bloodtinge alongside each other is absolutely viable.
Maybe the math in my head is wrong, but even with 50 Skill, 25 Bloodtinge, it should be worth switching to the blood-mode for how much damage it does and how little Bloodtinge resistane most enemies have.

Oh fuck you. Thing about Ludwig's sword isn't really that it's strong, it's that the moveset is extremely versatile and functional. Making it FUN.
There's not the pitfalls of

>the axe's halberd form is PURE SEX and has multiple combos -> monkey's paw curls again, the 1h form is DaS1 battle axe moveset tier

I think its funny how Leyndell really has no original enemies. The city where the most prosperous people lived alongside their god and all the soldiers look like the dudes you find in Limgrave. At the very least in DaS3 you wont find Lothric Knights everywhere or see Pontiff soldiers in fucking Dragon Peak. The same variants of knights, dogs, imps reskinned from Das3 and so on everywhere you go whether its Caelid, Liurnia or the Haligtree an endgame, secret area.
>>
>>744699049
It's very good in a lot of situations. The R2s in in both forms do great damage.

There is also a great combo no one talks about.
>R1 R1 L2
Many enemies will regain their composure after being hit twice and will immediately attack if you're close enough. Get's the parry most of the time. You can basically stunlock NPC hunters, keeper of the old lords, and basically anything humanoid.

There's a mod that gives it a better moveset and buffs it a bit in general. It's neat, try it out if you got bloodborne on your pc.
>>
>>744717091
I think the best build for Chikage is 25 skill, 50 bloodtinge, and 3x 24% +15 physical gems. This allows you to use the entire moveset with very good damage. Remember that there are moves that use the bloody sword animations that do not use the bloodtinge stat on the weapon:
>Both transformation attacks
>Tricked L1 thrust
>Tricked running thrust

Then of course the entire untricked moveset is physical damage, but you can deal decent damage here too and it reaches many breakpoints of enemies even in high NG+ cycles. Also you have evelyn! If you don't want to farm 24 15's, 27.2%'s work great as well.

ludwigs memeblade sucks and I have never understood why its held in such high regard, I understand that the appeal is the elemental damage via its ARC scaling but by the time you're able to get decent enough blood gems to outpace the normal physical damage you'd already have access to the Moonlight Sword or at least Tonitrus for sure, and the Erica Kirkhammer is better at raw physical damage output, so unless you desperately need native fire damage on a weapon I really do not see the niche that Holy Blade fills, I've never stuck with it past maybe Rom. If I'm missing something, please, educate my wack ass.

this is the actual OP shit, best moveset, best rally, best physical damage and scaling, best stagger and among the best range, and its on a fucking starter weapon; for cynical spreadsheet style players its the beginning and end of the entire game. it must be contagious because DaS3 has the same disease.
>>
>>744717941
Ludwigs Holyshit is equally one of the best strength, skill and arcane weapons. For some fucked reason, it scales in B for both physical attributes and A in arcane. It is indeed a very good skill weapon as well! It has normal, thrust and blunt attacks, massive damage modifiers, a flexible moveset with slow and fast attacks and people just like swords even in Bloodborne.
So yeah, it works with a number of different builds and is among the best weapons in several categories at the same time without suffering some kind of drawback. Very easy to see why so many people use it.

Personally I was quite disappointed with the weapons. I know everyone says they're 2 in 1, but it's no different from the other entries. If I two-hand the weapon, then it becomes 2 in 1. Yeah, there's a switch-attack, whatever you want to call it, but it's like one move. Then some of the weapons are too similar. Saw Cleaver and Saw Spear are identical except one single move, which I think was the rolling R1? Kirkhammer and Ludwigs Holy Blade share the same moveset. Then the Tinnitus hammer is just the boring Club moveset from Dark Souls 1. The Spear and that Rapier which both shoot with the heavy attack is... kinda redundant? Maybe it has use in PvP, but I never got invaded. And I already had a gun in my left hand, so I just never used it, like I forgot it even had that function and became very spammy with only R1 as an attack. Stake Driver exists. I can't even think of the other ones. I loved the Cane, it was by far my favourite weapon, and I did enjoy the Dual Swords quite a lot, but it took forever to get. I think there was a scythe?
Never did the DLC, I already moved on from Bloodborne, but might emulate it one day.
>>
>>744718147
the appeal of the melee weapons with the gun mode is that theyre the only way to do damage using bullets without also using boner ash, and if you've got some sort of fetish for elemental bullets then the Reiterpallasch is the only game in town. both cannons can be used effectively against bosses but, again, boner ash.

BB's combat is oversold. Yeah the weapons flow well with transformation attacks but I think the reason /v/ loves it so much is because the gun parry is exploitive and the bosses don't quite take advantage of the new game pacing the way later titles do.

The combat isn't actually better than latter titles, it's just easier.

Saw Cleaver = for mindless gameplay against beasts.

Whirligig Saw = for optimized damaged against beasts.
Evelyn + Bonemarrow Ashe = if you have sufficient skill attribute and you wanna spam shots at nerds.

Hunter's Pistol = if you simply need something great for parrying. Its shorter barrel Helps, because the Evelyn can fvck up when enemies get too close (the latter's barrel is too long.)

Hunter's Axe = for kiddies who wanna stagger normal enemies (like, that's it.)

Tonitrus = if you need the imbue lightning/ bolt element weapon skill.
Cannon = for big bOOm.

Flamesprayer = for basic beasts that still fear (like cower from) fire damage.
Loch Shield = for 'tards who spam arcane damage at you.

Sekiro's art style is extremely bland, what are you on? It's Generic Japanese Sengoku Era Game #83629016 v16.01.3.26.10. It's been done to death a million times. People glaze it on /v/ because it's a one-off game and likely won't ever get a sequel. Same with Bloodborne, but the latter had to actually earn it and fight for relevancy amongst other exclusives on the PS4 (back when Sony actually made them). Bloodborne is a masterpiece that people still talk about and beg for a sequel/remaster to, Sekiro is a very good game that came and went like any Asscreed game.

I reckon it's the sheer style factor, like both lorewise and numbers wise the tarnished is absurdly strong, but because so many of their animations are anaemic, you don't feel it as much, its also why so many people love sekiro, it just FEELS cool, and makes you feel cool too.

Its shots needed to actually deal some damage. There is zero purpose to the gun on this weapon because even with investment it deals less damage than a sidearm while being a 2H so it doesn't allow you any utility like the Reiter. The original bug with +element damage making it into a shotgun was unironically cool and just needed to be tweaked into a legitimate build

>The scaling is not split. The transformed attacks are all tinge and there is no reason to ever use untransformed.
The reason is that a bloodtinge-only playthrough sucks.

>Sheer style factor
I mean yeah swiss-army weapons is a cool concept don't get me wrong, but pound for pound Trick weapons are just taking two familiar weapon categories and allowing them a switch with an attack animation.

It is fundamentally an improvement to the 1-to-2 system of earlier titles which is probably why they did the stat split thing between modes (Because 2-handing has the STR multiplier in souls).

>Many animations are Anaemic
No idea what you're talking about. From has always made the characters appear to struggle flailing inhumanly big weapons and in BB the only inhumanly big weapons are the Ludwig ones. Why is the Tarnished getting shit for looking "weak" when he's using the Giant Crusher?
>>
>>744743986

This is a very reasonable opinion and you will regularly see BBfags gush about dodging in BB even though it's literally just a souls dodge roll but the animation doesn't roll on the ground so it superficially feels different and superficial feels matter

They dropped the ball with ER weapons. Making stat scaling completely customisable AND making ashes completely customisable then making 30 weapons per class and giving them all the same movesets means they're all the same. Infusions and selectable ashes are a shit system which removes any identity the weapons could have had. I understand the desire to have lots of different weapons as rewards in the giant world and I understand they aren't going to have 300 different weapon movesets with unique animations but they didn't even TRY to give them a unique identity. They just had to allow everything to be customised and that removes the main elements they could have used to differentiate them

A smaller number of more diverse weapons is good but BB still doesn't have a good weapon line up because too many of the base game weapons suck and are poorly balanced. The biggest time sink in making a lot of weapons is animation work, but you can make weapons feel unique by doing a pic'n'mix of different animations from other weapons and significantly changing things like speed and range without needing wholly new animations. DS2 did a good job of this, you can have better variety without needing that much more work

Ignoring NG+ is a very specific thing invented by /v/ and copied by reddit.

It stems from DaS having no respec option and a shittier end game, coupled with a "maximum online experience" meta level cap at 125.
It's also because NG+ in every souls game never feels like they boost enemies in a way where they would be difficult for a high level player.
It's usually like a 20% across the board boost not feelable until NG+4 or so.
The ironic thing is unlike other Souls games, DaS had NG+ content in the form of Gravelording, which failed in part because people refused to do NG+

People argued if you wanted more play-throughs you might as well start a new character so you could experience progression without leveling past the meta level.

This of course became obsolete with DaS 2 and other souls titles all having respec options.

>>744688470
Saw Cleaver is better, and Saw Spear is better than it depending on your stats.
>>744689218
Solid weapons, people who complain about range haven't seen how far the hitbox actually extends from the model, and in the end the only thing that matters is speed.

>[Extremely common playing habit] is something you invented!
I know anon, I'm so important that millions line up to hear my takes. Here's some wisdom - Souls games stop being fun when your character is fully built. Partly because the decisions involved in building something are the fun part, and partly because the combat goes to shit once you remove all of the weaknesses and limitations you begin the game with
>>
>>744689215
stuck on demon of hatred for three days fuck this nigger and fuck you for praising the bosses
>>
After you find a weapon you unlock it and you can use since the begining in a new character. Here, i fixed bloodborne, wasn't that hard.
>>
>>744749467
No it was invented by /v/ as a trick to keep people sticking to meta level so invaders could always invade.
Anyone was always free to enjoy their end game weapons in NG+. It's evident by the complaint about From Software "putting all the good weapons at the end of the game" that anon was thinking along this /v/ logic and not your reasoning.

It's a lot like when Elden Ring released and everyone was seething and crying over int/fai requiring more stats to "get good".
This isn't an issue if you set the "meta level" higher, but reddit thought it should be 125 because other games have it as that, ignoring Elden Ring scaling being different.

There actually isn't a problem there, From Software isn't balancing things around some autistic premise written by /v/ trying to force people to stick to a particular archetype build. It's actually not an issue, never was, and the only good int/fai staff is stated around being a higher level.

it's a completely fictional problem.
