I'm 12 hours in and I don't know if I can go on anymore. It's such a slog. Auto battle, auto battle, two characters stop and have a boring conversation for 10 minutes, auto battle, auto battle, repeat.

But the formula never changes.I do think FFXIII-2 is a bit better because the structure is a lot more open and I like the protagonists and antagonist more, but it's still basically the same game.

You know it, I know it. Yes there are a lot more things that can be done in these games we know, but the path of least resistance in turn based combat has always been the same. And especially during the last few decades, simply become powerful enough through grinding and then turn on autobattle/fast forward to rush through all the random encounters and get back to the good story parts and boss fights and side activities.FFXIII turned the typically feature-bloated JRPG design of the 90s on its head and mirrored the fast paced corridor shooters of the 2000s. It wasn't the most successful of experiments, but we see how that design was very forward thinking. It took 10 years before FFVII Remake was able to revisit that same design structure. And what were the parts that people hated in FFVII Remake? It was the parts that were typical JRPG busywork. Go here, talk to this person, find the missing cats, kill the rats, etc etc.
