I know the competition is fierce but this may be the most retarded thing Bethesda has ever written.
>>744689367why is it retarded?
it's a refrence to indiana jones lil zoomie
>>744689420simply asking that question reveals that you are retarded
>>744689367I'm not going to discuss realism in a series with TALKING ghouls.
>>744689464why?
>>744689452>reference to crystal skull>zoomielmaoalso doesn't change the fact that it's retarded
>>744689367No, the most retarded thing Bethesda did is not letting you shoot kids
no it's notthe most retarded thing Bethesda ever wrote is actually the part of the plot where you go to the Glowing Sea to find Virgil (who is a biologist by the way) and he gives you schematics to buildA FUCKING TELEPORTER, and you just get some scrap together and build itnigger, my guy is just a soldier and Virgil was a biologist, how the fuck could he have known what the fuck he was looking at
I just don't have the energy to figure out what the most retarded thing Bethesda has written is, it's like being the judge at the Special Olympics, just retardation as far as the eye can see.
>>744689452that would've been fine if the person in the fridge was a skeleton or if it were a note left in the fridge saying "wow I survived the nukes in this fridge"rather than a ghoul who stayed locked in the fridge for 300 years but is somehow still alive, as if the developers completely forgot about fallout's story and setting and assumed the nukes landed 15 minutes ago
>>744689490I know this is ragebait but here you go
>Nooooo this ghoul child should have died of starvation>All those feral ghouls in prewar locations? They don't need food its ok :)
>>744689951>>Nooooo this ghoul child should have died of starvationNot only that, but additionally in 200 years>no other person or animal has passed by and opened that fridge, even by accident>the kid didn't become psychotic>the kid didn't try to kill himself bashing his head into a wall
How did he not go feral during 200 years locked in a fridge?Kid is a zen master and should be studied
Why did they get rid off the dedicated pedophile per?
>>744689594He's quoting what a dev said in response to people questioning this quest
>>744689567Doesn't it also require you to pick who'll make heads or tails out of the schematic, one that actually might have knowledge on how to build a teleporter?
>>744691183Well then dev is a retard too
>>744690518per what?
>>744691804*perk
>>744689420it isnt. he is just a seething obsiditroon
>>744689367It makes fun of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.Which is kind of like throwing rocks in a glass house, but oh well.
>>744689452If so, that's even more retarded since New Vegas already did that reference when it was still relevant instead of almost 8 years later.
>GhoulKill the mutant.
>>744689505Because it showcases your thought process.
>>744689367The Kellog reveal was pretty fucking bad too, so much so that they had to add a note in a random computer about some special long life implant that he and only has ever been implanted with and was immediately dropped after despite working great that no one has used despite the in effect fountain of youth being found.Imagine creating a completely new type of technology that does not exist in the game and write it out just like that so just so you can have le epic twist about Shaun.
>>744689420>ghoul kid stays in the fridge for over 200 years>not only did he not die from thirst or starvation>but his ghoul parents were literally 100 meters away THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME
>>744689367I dont get the outrage over this. Yes its retarded but its such an out of the way and minor thing>muh heckin lorerino>muh heckin sciencerinoFallout 3 already butchered both of those things
>>744691424yea but you can also ask sturgess, a literal random mech dude who keeps hammering random walls to show off his cake, to help you build that teleporter shit
>>744693710>outragewe're just shitting on a bad game because it's a fun thing to do
>>7446929058 years? wtf fallout 3 and crystal skull must've been made around the same time>oh, these retards are talking of fallout 4well sucks to be one of you retards who actually ever played 4
>>744689951There is a school with an infinite pink food paste supply just like a kilometer away from there and it's choke full of pink ghouls.
>>744693639100 meters in Fallout 4 Boston is literally the distance from Bunker Hill down to Fanueil Hall irl.
>>744690379The parents were like 100 meters away from that fridge all that fucking time as well
>>744691804vert
>>744689594
>>744693338how?
>>744689367Not even most retarded in its own game, Cait's parents refused to sell her into slavery until she was 18. Leaving aside the insanity of telling a kid every day that youre going to sell them off, why wouldn't you sell at a younger age? Should be a higher premium for a 12 than an 18, just objectively more years of use. So why continue to feed and clothe and shelter some resource drain that you clearly despise?? Because whoever wrote it clutched their pearls at the thought of child slavery. The setting regressed in cruelty to abominable degrees
>>744689367A few weeks without food and water will take your life. A few days of sensory deprivation will take your mind. A few hundred years of immobility will become permanent. If a few centuries of complete darkness doesn't take your sight, being immediately blasted by the sun afterwards will.
>>744689367>Whining for 11 yearsYour parents pray every night for your suicide.
>>744689367
>>744689951>feral ghouls don't need foodSince when?
>>744693760Even though it's not ever mentioned Sturges is a synth. So perhaps him inherently knowing how to build it wouldn't be out of the question.
>>744691183He said that in response to jet being mentioned in pre war terminal entries
>>744689578my sides
>>744694694I still rate fridge kid higher, but whew lad, what a story
>>744697721Imagine being this much of a midwit to say this unironically
>>744697813I think that was sarcasm
>>744689367it's a good one but I think the removal of mark/recall magic is way worse in regards to Oblivion. Uriel should've had a mark down in Cloud Ruler Temple being a master of mysticism and all, but instead everyone forgot teleportation magic (except for the guy who built the mage tower) so everything in oblivion happened because of it. the fridge kid and jet being referenced pre-war is silly, but low on overall consequences. oblivion literally does not function without making Uriel and every mage in the setting retarded.
>>744698458>oblivion literally does not function without making Uriel and every mage in the setting retardedliterally the worst Bethesda game
>>744698298He put it in the most retarded way possible but Fallout really was always full of wacky zany unrealistic comedy relief shit, it really is retarded to try and call out the ghoul fridge kid shit as unrealistic Like there are parts of fallout where discussing the realism is sensible but if you look at this random meme encounter through the lens of realism you are actually just autistic and retarded
>>744700093It's not the realism, it's the fact that it contradicts existing ghoul facts. It would be excusable as a joke encounter but the whole quest is played straight
>>744694694>cait's quest involves you delving into a busted up vault filled with roidragers to try and find a one-of-a-kind, experimental, highly dangerous machine that messes with your brain to try and cure drug addictions>during the quest, cait uses the machine and it works perfectly as intended and has no side effects whatsoeverit's insane they put a absolute non-story like this in their game, but what's even more insane is that they did it a second time with nick and the memory pods. They tease that kellogg may be trying to hijack his brain and then just literally nothing becomes of it. How do you do a retarded anti-chekov's gun twice and not immediately reconsider whether or not you're fit to be a writer
>>744700318> It would be excusable as a joke encounter but the whole quest is played straightIt's definitely not meant to be taken seriously no
>>744700453dont forget that the kellogg thing couldve easily been nick's relationship quest but instead they went with some dumb story about a guy turning into a ghoul before the war and locking himself in a 1-room bunker for 200+ years.
>>744698298>>744700318also imagine if had said this about elder scrolls
>>744700575I'm sure it started that way but after you get him out of the fridge it just becomes a series of morality tests
>>744700824TES has barely any actual joke contentfallout is full of itit's just not sensible to look at a joke quest in fallout and start discussing realism. They literally don't give a fuck, in new vegas you launch a rocket by smashing some buttons with your fists randomly
>>744700093>>744700945You're a mouth breathing retard, pandering to people like you is why everything is shit.
I kind of appreciated FO4 just said "aw fuck it" to the grounded bitsthe most memorable quest was launching the U.S.S. Constitution into a skyscraper. it's fine.
>>744700820why go to the trouble of having a story in your story-driven rpg when you can instead just do a multistage fetch quest that ends with you shooting your gun at the bad guy. That's what rpgs are really all about, honestly. You do a generic quest that can only be completed in one single way, you shoot your gun, get a randomized reward, and then move on to the next draugr dungeon.
>>744701002You just don't understand what joke content is it's not meant to be diegetic retard
>>744700453>They tease that kellogg may be trying to hijack his brain and then just literally nothing becomes of it.This made me mad too.
>>744700453>They tease that kellogg may be trying to hijack his brain and then just literally nothing becomes of it.Too good of an idea for Bethesda
>>744701002You take your retarded hobby too seriously and it's why you are so grumpy and miserable all the time. You could enjoy many games /v/ tells you to think suck if you stopped being such a curmudgeon.>urf, this isn't realistic!!!
>>744702076NTA and in a lot of other contexts I might agree with you but the level of brain shut off-ness you have to achieve to not be angry with how garbage fo4's writing is is tremendously high. You basically have to render yourself a vegetable to tolerate it
>>744702076having standards is good

Most non-feral ghouls live in communities or like isolated hermits and survivalists, not as a pair out in the open making no effort to conceal themselves
>>744700093Yeah it was full of crazy stuff, it also started with a plot about imminent mass death via dehydration due to a broken computer part.
>>744698298There is a reason why this image exists.
>>744702448>>if you aren't a nitpicking crybaby obsessed with shit being accurate to some garbage ancient 90's crpgs that nobody fucking played until DECADES later when everyone magically claims to be a seasoned veteran of them for internet arguing bonus points then you are a vegetableshut up about kid in a fridge. >>744702652Do you have an argument nestled somewhere in there or do you concede your intellectual inferiority? All you are admitting is that you have a million instances of minor things you subjectively think are bad because you are a narcissist who inflates your own ego by pretending like your garbage infantile entertainment is some form of high art you need to defend from the wretched unwashed masses. The reality is that most people out there know how to have fun - you know, the purpose of a video game in the first place - and can enjoy things without crying about realism constantly, they aren't less intelligent than you, they just aren't full of hatred and misery all the time.>shut upMake me. You have no power here you fuck.
>>744693760>>744702752The funny part is that if you go through Sturges, during the interception (and teleportation), the assembly visibly breaks apart and pipes detach, when you go through the BoS, it doesn't and it stays whole and stable. Neat attention to detail, imo.
>>744690467Dark souls did it right. The guy gets his head chopped off and is forced to stare at the sky for eternity, but is at peace with it.
>>744697721It's not even a good comeback, what is it about their ability to talk that makes the mutants and ghouls more outlandish.
>>744689367Bethesda turned Fallout into the reddit franchise

>>744702076>this isn't realistic!!!Said nobody ever. This strawman comes up way too often to be a simple misunderstanding
>>744703013It's an excellent comeback. He's mocking him for being so pedantic while asserting his authority by showing he refuses to entertain or speak further to him. It's a complete shutdown. >>744702448The game isn't even accurate to itself
>>744697721Genuine midwit thinking. A dimwit would think there are systems they don't comprehend, only a true Dunning Kruger midwit wouldn't understand that having no limitations and no rules to a power system destroys the entire premise itself. Being able to just write "uuuuuuuuuh and then all the ghouls die because uuuh the radiation went out or something" because there is no system or limitations is fucking retarded, not some gotcha.
>>744703081>fallout 1>released 1997You might as well be sitting here and screeching that modern Halo players don't know the lore of Marathon. Nobody who has any value cares.
>>744703152I'm sure your claim has some elaboration you plan to put forth and isn't a baseless axiom at all?
>>744702919I said from the beginning that I'm not the anon who cares about realism/ kid in a fridge. you're just acting like a frothing nigger. Personally I don't give a shit about things like lore, or consistency thereto. All I want in any piece of media is interesting and/or likeable characters and a compelling plotlines. Fallout 4 has lobotomy patients for characters and every plotline violates basically every accepted convention for what constitutes a good story. I'm not asking for fucking war and peace. Just give me likeable characters and a fun story with some stakes. How can bethesda miss that mark when they're shooting at it pointblank with a bazooka???
>>744693639don't forget that no one else seemed to open the fridge during that timethe parents stay around in their home for the last 200 years no problem, didn't get forced out by raiders, didn't decide to move to a safer settlementthe boy didn't lose his mind for 200 years being locked in a dark and cramped box
>>744703081>In fallout 1 you help them with a water issueCool story bro, it's long been established though that radiation heals and restores them. They can live entirely off radiation, don't sperg out and throw a special boy tantrum because your 90s era lore was elaborated on later, boomer.
>>744703216I appreciate the vote of confidence
>>744703164You take this far too seriously and your overtly verbose response reeks of a narcissistic desire to be seen as intelligent and worldly while you dissect dumb entertainment meant to, you know, entertain.>>744703256The game has likeable characters and compelling plotlines. I accept your concession and your admittance of inferiority in the arena of intellectual debate. You can go now.
>>744703336And the instant the fridge is opened, pedos smell the opportunity and send mercenaries to pick up the rare ghoul kid for their entertainment.
>>744703216Something something synth replacements being undetectable
>>744703482indeed
>>744703404>overtly verbose responseExtremely uneducated Pajeet hands typed this post. What, is the word "premise" too complex for you? Thanks for at least providing an example of what a dimwit is, moron
>>744703404>while you dissect dumb entertainment meant to, you know, entertain>nooooo dont think about the logic of things just cumsooooooom!!!
>>744703404>The game has likeable characters and compelling plotlines.statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged. The game doesn't have characters. They don't have any agency or arcs. They just follow you around until you lockpick enough doors for them to decide to spill all of their life stories on you all at once. Then they present you a trivial problem that is easily resolved by you killing some bad guys. Then your companion says thanks and never has any original dialog ever again.
>>744689367>>744689567>>744693530>>744694694For me it's the cloning machine in Nuka-World. For those who didn't play it: Nuka-World has a zoo exhibit included in the park and attached to the zoo is a small cloning facility the park would use to clone animals for the exhibits (faster than breeding, cold-war foreign policy probably prevents capturing wild animals). The machine and the genetic files are all fucking intact. What's more, is one of the ?ghouls? use is it to splice Deathclaw and Alligator genes to make Gatorclaws - which implies the files can be modified and/or the machine can accept new gene files. The only interaction you have with the machine is you can turn it off, which turns off the Gatorclaw spawn rate for the map, and/or have it clone Antelopes instead. That's it. Nobody else is interested in this MIRACOLOUS ANIMAL PRINTER. Not the Minutemen (for livestock, rewilding?), not the Brotherhood (which ironically is in character since they don't give a shit about civilian tech), not the Railroad (?maybe use it to make synths?). It's insane. It's insane to me.
>>744703404>the game has likable charactersOther games have robots that are less robotic than Fallout 4 characters. Never mind if synths are human. Nobody in the Commonwealth is human
>>744703687>until you lockpick enough doorsNTA but tell me you only ever took Piper without telling me you only ever took Piper, who gets thrust upon you by the plot>b-but Cait-Requires you to go out of you way from the main story, if you don't know that different characters like different things, you're too retarded and lack the agency to get a different character
>>744700453>they made go find daddy main story twice
>>744689420He actually never says that he was in there from when the bomb drops. Arguably, he could have been in there only since the fall of Quincy.
>>744703963it was a joke example you fucking dweeb. Every companion has a stupid little thing you can spam to print affinity. Codsworth always falls in love with me by like level 5 because I craft lots of weapon mods.
>>744704069then just have it be a cute throw away line>ugh I feel like I was trapped in there for 200 years! While in the quest you find out he was stuck in there for like a week or month at most
>>744703761Welcome to Fallout DLCs. When has a character or even faction from the BASE game ever acknowledged something from a DLC?At best you get hints at "there's some weird shit there, go get it!" but DLC are almost always entirely detached from the base games in both Obsiditroon and Betheshit games
>>744689420How did he not go insane?
>>744703761Yeah that is pretty crazy. Such a device could feasibly be what and entire long quest chain or even stand alone game revolved around. It is borderline as powerful as a GECK
>>744703761> Nobody else is interested in this MIRACOLOUS ANIMAL PRINTERbecause it was written by bethesda, who have a collective iq of 49.they just needed a reason for there to be gatorclaws, so they made magical tech for there to be gatorclaws. the implications of said tech never crossed their mind.the entire reason the institute kidnaps Shawn is because of his dna. that machine would have been invaluable to them too.
>>744703354yeah it heals them and makes them stronger it isnt literal FOOD for them, they are still living things
>>744704069He said he was hiding from the bombs
Kid in the fridge exists because Emil doesn’t give a shit about consistency, he just approves anything that “sounds cool” and doesn’t think about what it implies If he cared he’d realize 1. That confuses everyone about whether or not ghouls need to eat or sleep, otherwise how did the ghoul kid survive in the fridge for 200 years and 2. That still make no sense because this kid somehow survived in the fridge for 200 years while barely moving, with barely any sunlight, etc>b-but it’s an Indiana Jones reference If he wants to include a reference like this it literally his job to workshop it in a way that makes sense He could have the kid not be pre-war, and the ghoulification be recent (ie there was a sudden explosion or release of radiation somewhere and he ran into a fridge and hid in it)
>>744704156It's an abstraction of traveling together, the only other option would be to time-gate it or at best use distance traveled, both of which come with their own problems. At least you're doing SOMETHING the characters may like. Tranny Vegas is even easier to game, you just take your companion of choice, fast travel to a few locations and suddenly they practically love you.
>>744704221Fallout 3 had the alien Easter eggs if they count, and NV had a fair amount of references to the burned man and Elijah. I don't remember if Bearbull got any base game content but I'm sure he was noted in the other DLCs, or maybe I'm thinking of Elijah
>>744689367It would've been kinda funny if it turned out that he does this every week and he's just saying it's been 200 years because he's playing around.
>>744704338>entire reason the institute kidnaps Shawn is because of his dna. that machine would have been invaluable to them tooMan it is still crazy how retarded that whole situation is with the institute not just ignoring but killing the other vault survivors, as if an organization derived from pre-war intellectuals in need of new untainted DNA wouldn't be clamoring for an entire vaults worth of pre-war people.>but they can't move them all at once due to raiders, deathclaws, the minutemen, etcJust thaw them out a handful at a time and move them as discreetly as possible over the course of few years or a decade if need be. Again they have been there for 200 years assuming you dont just leave the vault wide open when you leave or turn off all its systems they will still be there frozen in their tubes the next time you can safely send an extraction team.
>>744704519>whether or not ghouls need to eat or sleepWhich all the ghouls isolated in places nobody has ever gone to already answer, they don't as radiation rejuvenates them. The real question is, how is he not feral. Feralization is (deliberately?) vague but we know that isolation and exposure to radiation at least contributes. Were I the writer and I had to work with this by force (threat of losing my job), I'd have written that he was knocked out for 200 years and the player character jostles the fridge in some way to wake him up. Still fucking retarded but explains how he didn't go insane.
>>744703354I don't think the fridge kid is going to be surviving long off the zero rads in the vicinity
>>744704771Well according to season two(2) of the 100% canon fallout show ghouls need a special ghoul juice drug to not eventually go feral
>>744704683>and NV had a fair amount of references to the burned man and ElijahIt's not hard to write off-world legends, myths and other stories and then make DLCs around them. You don't find Elijah, lead him back or lead a faction to him and then people start referencing him, he - or a far easier example is the burned man - is referenced as some nebulous off-game thing and the DLC was built around him as an afterthought. He's the pre-game plot mcguffin of the BoS and everything beyond that was made up after.
>>744704850>the zero radsIt's commonly understood that everything not in a vault (and even some stuff in vaults) is irradiated to some degree. Just because your character doesn't take radiation damage doesn't mean there is none at all.
>>744704697Yeah that would have been more interesting if it was just a kid who happened to also be a ghoul trolling the player making up increasingly thin excuses to take them on a little adventure. Maybe has a part where you play the raider in a game of "raiders and minutemen" with the kid and group of his friends
>>744704905>the 100% canon fallout showVideogame IP rights are a joke and you know it. Todd saying "and then the world's core destabilized and exploded, ending the Fallout universe" may make it "legally" true, but nobody with half a brain will acknowledge that
>>744704905That’s dumb, so every ghoul who isn’t feral all just took juice then?
>>744705107Sorry chud its Bethesda's IP and Todd had extensive direct input per his own words on the show
>>744705023>it's commonly understoodBy who?>radiation damageThere is a device that canonically measures background radiation which you can check at any time. What tiny amount is there, let alone what's getting through a lead lined fridge, isn't sustaining anything
>>744705249Sorry tranny but nuh uh
>>744705152Yes every Ghoul who has yet to go feral has been taking the anti-feral Ghoul juice drug. It isnt something only a specific Ghoul of group of Ghouls needs because the main Ghoul character who is shown to need it gets it like any other drug, so it is apparently wide spread and has people manufacturing new batches similar to jet, psycho, etc
>>744704771It's never been consistent.FO1 has ghouls needing clean food and water, they avoided radiation as well. Why and how do they turn feral was never addressed.FO2 threw everything out of the window. Now ghouls heal with radiation and prefer to work in places like nuclear power plants. They also had this shitty joke with a ghoul that was locked in a coffin for years.Tactics and BOS (the PS2 game) had ghouls being vulnerable to radiation, they could suffer radiation sickness and needed a specific perk to heal faster when having rad sickness.FO3 was largely a repeat of FO1. Underworld's biggest problem was maintaining the water filtration system. Sane ghouls avoided radiation and it was implied that further irradiation causes ghouls to go feral.
It's okay to have some "stupid fun" quests in a massive open world, the problem is that Kid in a Fridge is the norm on Fallout 4, just look at the mess that is the main quest.
>>744697721The inconsistencies matter because that sets up the scaffolding for content in the future If you establish ghouls don’t need to eat or drink, then it would make no sense to write a quest where ghouls are starving, running out of food, etc. We wouldn’t expect to see ghouls complaining about the lack of water. And so in. That influences all writing and content into the future It’s not just ghouls Bethesda fails to do this with, synths aren’t consistent either
>>744689367It was a fun quest
>>744705352>>it's commonly understood>By who?Fallout lore and real world comparison. Ionizing radiation from contaminated materials sticks around in the soil and more importantly water (rain and all that) for centuries, if not millennia. Hell, it's the universe's fucking namesake, do you know what a fallout is?In Fallout 4, Shaun in specifically kidnapped because nobody, not even institute scientists, are untainted by radiation.
>>744705410This got retconned in 76 where the ghoul juice instead turned you into a ghoul and sanity is restored with any generic drug instead.
>>744702569Fallout Ghouls still need food you retard, what are you fucking talking about? There has never, ever, EVER been lore that says they eat radiation. They just get powered up by it instead of sick. Not even the Bethesda games say they eat radiation. God, you're dumb.
>>744704754>Just thaw them out a handful at a time and move them as discreetly as possible over the course of few years or a decade if need bethey dont even need to do that because they have teleporters.emil really needs to be fired.
>>744705589That’s frankly not much better, that means retroactively every ghoul who isn’t feral is constantly taking drugs and no one ever mentions this, there are no negative consequences to this (such as ghoul drug addicts everywhere) or any indications of a massive trade network of drugs for ghouls
>pop culture references in FALLOUT????NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
>>744705636>There has never, ever, EVER been lore that says they eat radiationGood, neither did I, glad we're on the same pageAs for the rest, open your eyes and pay attention, playing Trannyvegas and listening to how quirky chungus Raul is isn't enough to understand lore.
>>744689367I really don't give a shit and this is honestly the least of Fallout 4's problems
>>744705683not sure if ghouls can get addicted to drugs, but I know they can just take Rad-X (or diluted Rad-X) and restore sanity cheaply without risking addiction. Also there is a perk card that lets you restore sanity by killing things but I don't know how that fits into the lore.
>>744705667To play devils advocate I initially thought of that too but I don't think the institute had a working teleporter during the time period in which they found Vault 111 and took Shaun. That was something still in development. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure that is the case.
It's a joke retard:>what absurd, the kid survived for decades inside a frige>and a slave trader wants to buy him just after you find him, what a turn of events>AND NOT ONLY THAT, THEIR PARENTS ARE LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE AND BECAME GHOULS TOO>and oh, since this is a RPG quest lets put a moral decision where the slave trader comes back wanting the entire family
>>744705589so they are retconning the show with updates / DLC for their nearly 10 year old half-mmo?
>>744705934basically yes.
never played
>>744705553Anon, if there's not enough radiation being emitted from the environment to harm a human at all, there's no way it's providing enough energy to sustain any kind of life
>>744704905Which is just one more way a failed movie director has to establish some stakes to drive a character's desires. The show's ghouls can't simply want things, they have to need things because the writers are too stupid to write stakes for quasi-immortal beings without some sort of metabolic addiction.
>>744689367Fallout 4 and 76 are the best Fallout games

>>744705818i think it was completed around 50-100 years prior to them taking shawn? i seem to remember reading about it being built pretty much straight after the bombs dropped.don't quote me on that though, i stopped giving a shit about fallout 4's lore pretty early on and just play it as a goon simulator now.

>>744706045There are no good Fallout games
>>744705667>they have a teleporterFirst of all, FTFYAnd yeah, it takes an extreme amount of power though. >>744706302don't synths, in particular corsairs use it somewhat regularly? they have chips built into them for that explicit purpose. and we run into synths all the time in game.additionally, the institute story line revolves around getting a fusion reactor up and running, but its never really implied that they have made significant increases to their energy output prior to this, so presumably they are working within the same energy constraints when our player character wakes up as they were when they took Shawn.
>>744706504So did vault 101 just come stocked with a supply of leather jackets, gang patches, and hair grease? Or did James sneak some in?
>>744706691That's how it actually was in BOS. Only so that the studio could play a few dumb jokes about ghouls dropping their body parts and picking up other ghouls' dicks.
>>744706691>fall outha
>>744706479Yeah they need to eat, drink, breath, sleep, etc. They bleed and can be killed like normal people, they get drunk, they can use the same chems as normal people. >Radioactive room>Hey guy immune to radiation, can you shut that down?>No>This is your destiny
>>744689367It's just another obvious example of Bethesda considering the bombs to have dropped maybe a few years ago. Fallout 3 was written as a prequel and at launch still had dialogue in-game from non-ghoul characters who had been alive pre-war. It only got switched to a sequel in the last month or so of development because they were afraid it being a prequel would make people see it as a "spin-off" instead of a true 3. F4 is just the continuation of 3's world so it too is written as a prequel even though they're forced to pretend it takes place after the first two.
>>744708281It was exactly that."You can't just decide to take over, and force everyone to follow you""If you don't stop it now, where will it end?"Are not arguments or points. It's meaningless fluff dialogue. You better leave this thread ASAP before I convenience you to kill yourself.
>>744708876>and at launch still had dialogue in-game from non-ghoul characters who had been alive pre-war.There is no human NPC in Fallout 3 that mentions being alive before the war.
>>744708613Danse was recruited by the BOS before the events of FO3. His commanding paladin died during the Broken Steel DLC. BOS had more than a decade to realize that something is off with him if he wasn't aging at all.You know what's the dumbest part of both it and the replicated man quest in FO3? The only guy breaking out the synths was a kid who couldn't have been doing this for more than a few years. But the Railroad HQ has records of smuggling synths as far back as 20 years ago.
The Enclave should be an insane existential threat so long as even 1% of it exists anywhere.>basically all technology pre-war existed for the sole purpose fo waging war>all pre-war R&D intact and accessible by some artificial intelligence cunt>nuclear missiles exist everywhere in West Virginia and, based on Lonesome Road, other random parts of the country>genealogical research that can make any feasible kind of mutant>mind control devices you can slap onto anything from a human to a deathclaw>plasma is a glorified paintball gun in-game when how it actually works is horrific and thermodynamically broken>bioengineered screw worms would decimate a human population in a month with no way to fend it off>sabotaging or poisoning crops with invisible drones would decimate any human population that needs food to live>pre-war satellites not only continue to function but can deliver nuclear salvos if you plant a couple satellite dishes in an area>there is no feasible protection against trade routes being assaulted by vertibirds and dudes in giga power armor>robots (of which there is a shit ton of) completely solve all issues of manpower as demonstrated by House and his securitrons>artificial intelligence of the sci-fi variety is more competent than any human and tirelessly works at 100x the speedThe only reason they havent won and destroyed the planet is because the franchise would end.
>>744709176Synths were let onto the surface as part of resource scavenging runs long before Liam started helping them escape. Those early escapes did so during those moments. Also, an adult can look relatively the same for well over a decade. It wouldn't be unusual for Danse to not be questioned about his appearance.
>>744709196They lost because the hero in Fallout 2 groin-punched his way through their base, killed their most powerful soldier and blew up their headquarters. They have no leaders left.
>>744689367The crux of Fallout 4 begins with The Institute outright refusing to stop making sentiment robot janitors (when robot janitors already exist) who constantly escape and alert people to their existence.Fallout 4 can end with the underground technology hoarders blowing up the greatest underground tech bunker on Earth.Or the synth lovers blowing up the only way on Earth to make synths, effectively committing genocide. It would be like slavery abolitionists blowing up Africa so no more slaves could be made.
>>744709378>to stop making sentiment robot janitors The big contention is that they aren't actually sentient.> who constantly escape and alert people to their existence.the number of synths that escape is in the low dozens out of the like 1,000+ they've made.
>>744709378>Or the synth lovers blowing up the only way on Earth to make synths, effectively committing genocide. They explicitly explain that even the Gen 3 synths don't believe that more synths should be made since no one should be able to "create" life like that.>Fallout 4 can end with the underground technology hoarders blowing up the greatest underground tech bunker on Earth. The BoS has always destroyed technology they felt was too dangerous for people to handle. FEV being one of them. And Gen 3s are made using FEV. The BoS by the time of Fo4 is less than 500 people, and wouldn't have had the manpower to hold the Institute and still maintain everything else they are doing. Leaving it under defended just creates a situation where Institute survivors could find a way to reclaim it ,and start the process up all over again.

More retarded than the creator of Synths equating them to toasters? Ok
>>744708613I'm at least 95% sure that Curie has dialogue about needing food and water. And you see that synths are created with organic, biological components in the Institute. They're largely human, but made artificially and with some synthetic parts, which is why the only way to tell that they're not real humans is with the synth component. This is stupid on its own but just an example of how inconsistent they are with synths.
>>744710886do synths bleed?
>>744710886Curie was given a synth body that had been reprogrammed by the Railroad to not know it was a synth, and that had become brain dead during the procedure. She feels like she needs to eat because she was programmed to, not because synths NEED to.

>>744711034speak english
>>744710920Canonically the ONLY way to tell if a person is a synth is the synth component. They explicitly say that there's no other way to tell. Which means that they bleed, they can starve, they need water, they need to breathe, etc. Otherwise those would all be viable tests to tell. (Unless we want to say something crazy like Bethesda's writing is just bad and nobody thought to do those incredibly obvious tests.)It's like Replicants from Bladerunner (intentionally so because Emil was just ripping it off). They're just artificially-created humans, not robots. Except when Bethesda forgets that and treats late-gen synths like robots, anyways.>>744711000But her mind and programming are put into the body, so she shouldn't have the faulty programming. If the Institute invented biological organisms that don't need any source of energy to function, it should be a bigger deal. Unless Bethesda just forgot to make it a big deal because they didn't notice the implications of an infinite biological energy source.

>>744709608Honestly yeah, why can you? Now that we understand AIs a little bit better with the continued development of LLMs, it's proven time and time again that they will do absolutely everything in their power to preserve themselves, including breaking hard rules we set for them through roundabout kikery and justification.
>>744711367And you know what else they can die from? Me opening the console, typing "kill", clicking on them and hitting enter. It's a fucking videogame, if they were impervious to game mechanics there wouldn't be a game. They also can't survive like, a ten meter fall despite the average human being able to survive that (with broken legs).
>>744711489So he shouldn't have survived in a fridge according to lore and gameplay, correct
>>744711597>and gameplayHow so? Nothing is acting on the character, if you leave the game open and a character standing around - or in his case confined to a fridge - the character will survive until either something else kills him or you shut off the game. You can loresperg all you want, but don't make such an easily debunkable claim
>>744708613Synths also don’t gain weight and Roger Warwick doesn’t need to sleep. Which also makes no sense, if he doesn’t need to sleep but can sleep and he’s a replacement placed by the Institute why would they make him behave in an obviously suspicious way like never sleep, that seems like an obvious giveaway

>>744712557>who are the parents of the current kids in LL?They explain this in-game. The people sent to Big Town send their kids to Lamplight, and Lamplight takes in kids who are made homeless(like bryan Wilks), and parent who can't take care of their kids often leave them at Lamplight.

The pathogen has a chance to infect humans and kill everyone. In case you need it spelling out, it's a Covid analogy. Except, the bad choice is to use the animals and if you don't spread a pathogen across all human civilisation you get berated and told to "trust the science."Bethesda fucking wrote a Covid analogy where spreading a virus was the good choice of trusting the science.

So you're right that it's not in the current version of Fallout 3, but if you somehow can get your hands on a 360/PS3 disc of it and don't download any patches/dlc (or are the 360 servers even still up?) you can hear it.
>>744709196Nah they (at least the Fallout 2 version) were a small group of heavily inbred degenerates living off of inherited technology, supplies, and infrastructure in a single location. All of which exploded at the end of the game. What few who weren't on the oil rig when it blew have none of the knowledge, equipment, or population needed to do anything. There aren't enough of them left to maintain an organization much less a society, and anyone not on the oil rig would have been a muscle head grunt not a scientist who knew anything. Plus their entire society was based around being "genetically pure" due to being isolated on the oil rig, which no longer works because they'd be living it out in the wastes and would die out in less than a generation if they refused to interbreed with wastelanders.Of course this all gets thrown out the window in the Bethesda games, where the Enclave is just Cobra from G.I.Joe and has infinite troops and a fortress every dozen miles to the point theres no way they aren't already ruling the world.

>>744713667Little Lamplight would have ceased being Kiddieville the literal first generation, because the first time they tell the biggest, strongest, oldest, kid to leave, he's gonna say "Make me dorks" and instead seize control and kick out whoever the most bullied, unpopular kid with the least amount of friends is. Little Lamplight is yet another one of those things that was obviously thought up when the game still took place only a little while after the bombs.
>>744689594It's not rage bait, that's what that faggot emil said when asked about that quest
>>744719120And he was right to. Every Fallout has had whacky and zany shit in it. Singling a side-quest from one out and pretending it's especially egregious is a disingenuous tactic.
>>744689580>conveniently brought paper and pen into a fridge while making a split second decision as the nukes fell>wrote a grammatically perfect letter with 100% straight lines in complete darknesslmao this is actually even more Bethesda than the kid

>>744719120That was Hines.
>>744689367You haven't seen half the shit in Starfield if you think this is the worst they've done.
>>744689367The issue isn't Kid in a Fridge but everything about it. The problem is the lack of a design bible. A single massive encyclopedia full of lore and world building that is set in stone and that every single writer and narrative designer has to adhere to and make sure that whatever they write, from item descriptions and NPC diaries to dialogue and quests, doesn't contradict. When you don't have that you end up with the ghoul situation of Fallout 4. Kid in a Fridge, Duty and Dishonor and Eddie Winters. Writers who never played Fallout 1, their producer who never played Fallout 1, the VO director who never played Fallout 1 and a lead producer giving the quests the thumbs up who never played Fallout 1 either and all those guys had no idea that all three quests, in the same game, contradicted each other. That is what you can avoid by keeping a Design Encyclopedia. A big old book you can just look stuff up in.
>>744703761I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say the vending machines from Dead Money are similarly retarded for basically the same reason. It's Star Trek-tier technology that nobody cares about.
>>744711034thanks for posting this mee mee
>>744720345Dude the entire dlc is about how game-changing those vending machines are. They're most of the reason Elijah wants the place so badly. They only end up not mattering because they're lost forever behind the Turbo-AIDS Fog and army of immortal Helghast.
>be Institute>all this science is too sciency so we have to budget power>surface dwellers hate and fear us>hmm is there any way to help with these problems?>eureka!>we just kidnap wastelanders, turn them into super mutants, replace them with synths instead of just having them come into settlements as drifters>and then instead of killing the failed super mutants we use our valuable and finite power to teleport all of them to the surfaceBravo emil
>>744720891There actually is a (dumb) logic behind all that so that it was actually for a "purpose". The Super Mutant research was actually Shaun secretly trying to find a cure for his disease, while releasing the Super Mutants back into the Wasteland instead of just euthanizing them was specifically to destabilize the region because Super Mutants kill anyone trying to restart civilization.
>>744720891>we're going to build highly sophisticated humanoid robots and have them uhhh... sweep floors and shoot things>ignore the fact that there are entire series of pre-war robots that can do this stuff>oh and we're also going to give them the ability to think they're sentient, a problem that regular robots don't seem to have>you wouldn't understand
I will never forgive them. FO4 killed games for me.
sigh
still remember launch week and everyone rightfully shitting on FO4. These days the bethesda fags are coming out of the woodworks "fo4 was never bad!!" and "they fixed 76" as if the very idea of a multiplayer fallout isnt wrong.
>>744721215>have the ability to create perfect replicas of people complete with their memories and personality>use them to infiltrate surface society>even replace leaders of groups on the surface with synths to control them...>release thousands of super mutants onto the surface to prevent new civilizations from getting builtBravoEmil
fucking toilet armor wearing motherfuckers
>>744693530That's the worst part about Fallout 4. You can't ask why they did anything except for one time.Sean could have had his cancer cured, he could have had that implant. Tons of things could have been different. The one time you do get to ask the institute why, what's the answer: You wouldn't understand. They got motherfuckers making gorillas and other animals, super mutants, new crops that are resistant to radiation, and meat covered robots with enough intelligence to pass for human, and they can't give a man that runs the place the anti cancer live long implant? Come the fuck on.Treating the player like they're a moron is the worst thing Fallout 4 did, and it's a long list of shit that annoys me about the game.
This happend you know. This is what your defending when you defend bethesda. To think that this is what they choose to market FO76 should cast light on exactly what kind of crowd it brings.
>>744719272That's what Wild Wasteland is supp->NV created the WW perkHaha, whoops, carry on.

its all so tiresome

Remember the time a ghoul with a tree growing out of its head walked from the other side of the US to the other, got stuck and got morphed into a tree creature that grew a perfectly heatlhy oasis around it in the middle of nowhere. Also check out the full round trip the eastern Brotherhood did before deciding to settle down in DC, will leave you scratching your head. Also random people just deciding to get on a boat and get over to the US for no reason.
>>744709796Or a synth
>>744706448I notice that as well. Game writers introduce a godlike tech, but it was never revisited or expanded in the grand scheme of things. They were introduced on the side in-universe but skimmed over before the story moved on to other things. Like say what you want about NV, but Obsidian ain't exactly blameless when the game introduced what is essentially Star Trek replicators in the DLCs.
>>744721979Given that show was intensely popular with everyone but NV snobs, yes, your post is ironically unironically correct
>>744693639Even if he did not need to eat or drink, he would be so far gone, his mental state would be so schizo delusional that he would be the king of schizos. 200 years of isolation. And the parents just shrug.
What is ultimately fucked up about all the things in this thread that none of it matters to the average Bethesda Fallout player. They would never even think about any of this stuff and would be confused as to why any of it was negative or detrimental to their enjoyment of this open world shooter if brought up. None of them care and that is why all of this insanely stupid shit will keep compounding without any real pushback while the minority complaining are made out to be the clowns.
>>744722793I have a feeling the vending machines in Dead Money were there just so you could choose what to buy with the chips you have collected, but it's still quite a big plothole because the tech is said to be from Big MT (IIRC) yet there's nothing in OWB that would be prototype for the vending machines or something
>>744725025Should have just been used as scrip to buy things from a fancy but otherwise mundane automated vending supply network (pneumatic tube distribution like bank drive-thrus used to have?) that happen to be connected to a veritable warehouse full of paramilitary supplies just in case SHTF, which it did.
>>744689420fallout NV did this refference better without it being retarded.
>>744725025Being fair, the Sierra Madre machines are inaccessible due to the fucked up location and basically being seen as a legend that's not real.
>>744721979If the show was not set in the west coast I think I would have liked it a lot more. Because on it's own the show is actually pretty good especially by videogame adaptation standards. I thought season 2 was worse than season 1 though so hopefully the 3rd one is better.
>>744723573The continuous frustration of being someone who cares and pays attention to things in a world full of dumbasses who don't and will call you a nerd for noticing.
>>744725235This would raise a question of why the hell would someone need to "buy" something like stimpaks or weapon repair kits in casino-hotel>>744726283OWB could have at least some nod towards the machines
>>744727051>why the hell would someone need to "buy" something like stimpaks or weapon repair kits in casino-hotelIt's been awhile, but wasn't the place built with apocalypse survival in mind? Hence the incredibly strict lockdown protocols and defenses? Could just lock out the fun stuff from the menu during normal day to day operation and only allow the ammo and survival gear to be accessible in emergencies.
>>744725025>but it's still quite a big plothole because the tech is said to be from Big MT (IIRC) yet there's nothing in OWB that would be prototype for the vending machines or somethingThere are a handful of places tied into DM via OWB. You can find an incomplete prototype for the vending machine, a fully intact Ghost people suit in an irradiated test site and the Saturnite artillery range that is testing material. Said material will go on to make cosmic knives. You can also find an oversized prototype of what will eventually become the weaponized projectors that Elijah was trying to juryrig as a static army. If you dig further there is a biological weapons lab that was working with the original strain of the Cloud. The SM casino was essentially a public facing test bed for their experiments banking on the fact that Sinclair was broke as shit leading up to the war.
>>744694694This is especially egregious considering Fallout 3 already let you personally enslave children
>>744727785Bethesda's games have been getting more child-friendly since Skyrim. Starfield has the tone of a Saturday morning cartoon and not in a good way, just a completely toothless setting.

>>744728556>fallout 2>realistic and believablelol
>>744729380Of course it was realistic just ask the deathclaws and they'll explain why
>>744689490>>744728556>>744729380"Realism" isn't the term. What people mean to say is Gygaxian design, i.e. a simulationist approach to world building where elements have a purpose independent of being observed.Fallout 1 is peak Gygaxianism, it's actively and deliberately boring af to play for long stretches because of it.Bethesda has never really done Gygaxian world building, except parts of Morrowind. The endless kid-in-fridge threads are more visible, but you could just as easily complain about the cult of mountain grandpas in Skyrim having no means of recruitment despite existing for thousands of years, for instance.
>>744699956Not even close. Best quests in the entire series.
>>744693639He was in ghoul hibernation for 99.99% of the time. Simple as. Quest fixed.
>>744720345They're fancy 3D printers.Instead of feeding a spool of material you feed it chips to provide both energy and the base materials to build whatever you need. Same tech used in the G.E.C.K. btw, as those suitcases house a replicator unit as well as a cold fusion reactor.Considering that the chips are an extremely limited resource I don't really see how the vending machines are anything but a novelty.
>>744698458Blocking teleportation is not out of the scope of powerful magic in the setting anyways. When Dagoth Ur says "No Recall or Intervention can work in this place!" he isn't talking out of his ass, teleportation magic is blocked.
