>According to Rebs Gaming, a popular Halo insider whose reporting journalists have corroborated in the past, the recent Halo remake underwent major changes during its development. Halo Studios works with a bevy of external teams and contractors, something that may have led to issues during Campaign Evolved's development. A studio known as Abstraction was recruited around 2023 to help modify the original game's work and make it compatible with a new engine and new features.>Halo Studios opted to utilize Unreal Engine 5, which created issues since the original game was designed on a rather ancient engine known as Blam. Abstraction worked to gel the two together and make it so new elements like sprinting, four-player co-op, and more all felt organic in Campaign Evolved. The original levels and combat encounters weren't designed for these things, so not accounting for them could have created all kinds of issues.>Unfortunately, Rebs Gaming reportedly discovered that Abstraction was prematurely kicked off the remake after Halo Studios imposed unrealistic deadlines and expectations on a technically complex project. The studio wasn't credited in the game's credits, but individual staff members were given special thanks. A source told Rebs Gaming that Abstraction's work was thrown out and redone quickly, which is believed to have caused bugs and AI problems.>The insider went on to claim that the studio's hubris led to further setbacks down the line. It was believed that the pivot to Unreal Engine 5 would have made things easier, but that wasn't the case. The team was led to believe by leadership that they could port assets into Unreal; instead, 100% of those assets had to reportedly be rebuilt in the engine, which the team didn't account for.
>>744693515>Rebs Gaming went on to allege that overall mismanagement created multiple obstacles for the team and even led to the cancellation of a multiplayer Halo project, as the Campaign Evolved team needed its staff and resources. In the final year of the game's development, the team had to crunch in order to get it out on time.>Additionally, the game was planned to utilize real-time cutscenes, which would've allowed players to see their custom armor and weapons. This unfortunately had to be scrapped, as the external team working on the game's cinematics "struggled" and barely made it in time for release.
343 are teflon tards, Microsoft itself could sink down in flames and these retards will just keep blundering on along raping Halo through the mud
How can billion dollars studios be so fucking retarded
>>744693689Women and jeets.
>>744693515HANG THAT STUDIO NOW!I GOT THE ROPE RIGHT HERETHIS SHITTY FUCKING STUDY NEEDS TO FEEL THE CONSEQUENCESOTHER BETTER STUDIOS HAVE GOTTEN MORE LAYOFFS FOR LESS FUCK UPS, SO WHY ISN'T 343/HALO STUDIO 6 FEET UNDER DEAD YET?CLOSE THAT FUCKING USELESS STUDIO, TALENTLESS FAGGOTS THAT HAVE OWNED THE HALO IP FOR LONGER THAN BUNGIE AND HAVE DONE NOTHING WITH IT BUT FUCK EVERYTHING UPNOBODY LIKES YOUFUCKING DIE ALREADY YOU USELESS FUCKING SHITS
>>744693515maybe they shouldn't have fired the old Halo team and replaced them with women and Indians
>>744693515the copes begin 25k max players on steam
Going to have to add this to the list
>>744694893Was just about to post this. This is the 343 classic
>>744693515They seem a little quick to contract someone to push out something to let us all know that this wasn't 343's fault?
>• In the last ~9 months, the team worked under severe crunch (late nights, weekends, constant firefighting and pivots) and managed to deliver a playable, “respectable” experience. >343's bar isn't making the best game ever made, or making a legendary experience>it's simply just to aim for a "respectable" experienceI fucking hate this company so much holy shit
you know studio is fucked if they can't even remake a 25 year old game without issues.
According to Joggaz Gaming my dick will not pull out if your moms fat ass
>>744695468Wasn't Halo 2 notoriously crunch heavy so much that multiple bungie devs quit? Meawhile these faggots are crunching a 25 year old game and STILL can't stop fucking up
>>744695468>struggles with the UE5 engine>incompetent hires>issues outsourcing>crunch time in last phase of developmentThat could be any game released in the last five years to be fair.
>>744693515That's unfortunate but it doesn't show in the final product. Having a blast playing co-op.
>>744695468>Campaign Evolved>RespectableIDK if I'd go that far
>>744694893This one is more up to date.
So is working at 343 basically 100% job security? They seem to get infinite chances for no reason
>>744695468I honestly have zero hope for Xbox until they announce 343/Halo Studios is shutting completely down and the Halo IP is handed off to someone else. Xbox will never actually fix itself until they start by getting rid of the entire studio and blacklisting every single dev at 343 from ever working on video games again.
>>744693515>outsource everything to an aislop machine>still struggle and crunch to get out a fucking remakeJust shut down.
>>744695989Yes but only if you're a fat gay woman or can credibly claim to be
It's like a checklist of everything wrong with modern dev cycles.>underqualified nepo leadership>two quarters of work outsourced to incompetent jeets, everything has to be thrown out>UE5 switch midway through, fucks up the whole projectWill Microsoft learn anything from this? NO
What will Asha do? Her izzat depends on a fierce reprisal.
When you realize 343 is staffed by people who hate Halo and its "chud" fanbase, everything starts to make sense.
everyone who worked on this should be fired and blacklisted from the industry
>>744693515How many 343 employees does it take to screw in a lightbulb? They already had the game made twice, just copy and paste Infinite's gameplay onto Halo 1's maps and throw some PBR textures on it and call it a day.
>>744696296This has been obvious since Halo 5My question is how these assholes still have job security for YEARS despite a decade of fucking up Halo. Get these devs the fuck out of video games and burn the studio down already. What the fuck is Asha waiting for. Xbox announced 1600 job cuts last month that basically killed ID Software, Compulsion games and a bunch of cuts in Bethesda, yet SOMEHOW Halo Studios manages to make it through unscathed.Fuck right off Xbox.
>>744693515>We broke the AI in Halo CE so that we could include sprint and ADSNo one was asking for these things to begin with, yet again it's shown that chasing different audiences doesn't do shit seeing how they failed to capture the PlayStation audience. The co-op excuse is bullshit too since people have been modding in 4 player co-op for years, there's already mod fixes for it in MCC. Also this remake is built off Halo Reach which already had sprint so I don't know why they're blaming technical limitations. Hell there's even a joke mod that adds sprint to the original CE
>>744693515How do you fuck up this badly? Like nigga the blueprints are right there
>>744695704they spent like 3 years to copy Doom 3 lighting only to figure out that Doom 3 lighting doesn't work on open environment.
>>744693515>It was believed that the pivot to Unreal Engine 5 would have made things easier, but that wasn't the caseBesides Square has it ever worked out well for AAA studios?Smaller teams the switch tends to work out but these giant teams it never works that well for them.
>>744693515I've said it before, I'll say it again: Between this and the launch (and arguably current) state of MCC, 343 couldn't even make a good Halo game if it was done for them. MCC in particular was practically gift-wrapped for them, especially considering they MADE one of the damn games in the collection, and they still found a way to screw it up. Twice. In any other line of work, that alone would've been grounds for dissolution.
>>744693515A good craftsman never blames the tools.
>>744693515They didn't even need to do any of this. If they wanted to make a quick buck off the old Halo games again, they could have just ported MCC to Switch and PS with cross play, and mod support available for consoles. Just having a bigger playerbase for multiplayer would make xbox players happy as well
The only time 343 was competent was when MCC was coming out on PC. 343 fixing Gearbox's graphical errors for CE, mod support, hype for each game that game to pc one at a time. Stuff like Ske7ch playing the Halo 2 demo on stream and fun community stuff like that. Honestly good times.
Still don't understand how I finish a game in 10 hours or so yet the credits go on for days
The Halo 2 remake will fix everything.
>>744693515It's definitely the engine that upset people, not the bullshit that they added, bad writing, femboss character, butchered Cortana... etc.
>>744693515>A source told Rebs Gaming that Abstraction's work was thrown out and redone quickly, which is believed to have caused bugs and AI problems. The demake uses reach ai behaviors, reach rigging, and reach animations, there is no way anyone believes there was any work done improving the ai.
>>744693550>the game's cinematics "struggled" and barely made it in time for release.Having watched a bunch of the cutscenes on youtube, this has to be true. So many of them are CLEARLY first passes with rough mocap.
>>744696790Probably would have been easier to remake it from scratch at the start instead of the unholy Frankenstein they made.
>>744694893
>>744693515>HALO Remake Had a Troubled DevelopmentThis has been every Halo under 343.
>>744693515UE5 is just 3D rpgmaker and big studios using it will never not be a colossal red flag. They have their own probably much better engines that are easier for them to work with but get kickbacks for promoting UE5. The next Cyberpunk will also be UE5 and made exclusively by CDPRs new california branch, written to be much more sensitive to the modern audience. I'm noticing a trend here. You stupid ass gaymer niggers think they're firing the activists, nah bruh, they're consolidating the entire industry under their control with UE5.
>>744699542>this has to be trueDoubt it. They showed the silent cartographer cutscene months ago and it was the same one they shipped, all the other cutscenes follow a similar motif with lots of cuts and unnecessary additions.
>>744699861what a sad road this franchise has walked
>>744693515I would be surprised if this wasn't the case
>>744695468I'm not surprisedLike cmon guys. We saw how they bundled Halo CE 2011Then Halo 4Then Halo MCC/H2 Anniversary Then Halo 5Then Halo InfiniteLike how many more times do they need to screw up a Halo game for people to finally say "No" with their wallets?
What other developers hate the games they are known for and are just outright incompetent at their one job?
>>744696296>>744696592My honest guess? Nobody else at Microsoft wants to work on Halo. They're either afraid of not surpassing the Bungie games or they don't care about the IP.All the good people at Microsoft have long since left before 2011.
>>744695928>>744699861Someone should spam some microsoft and 343 higher up inbox with this image.
>>744700081It's almost hilarious how a bunch of bigger studios switched to UE5 complaining about their tech but completely fuck up on the "easier" engine. It's almost like management is the issue almost every time but they decided they weren't the issue so they changed everything else.
>>744693515White and Japanese men may unironically be the only competent humans in modern history.

>>744693515Are we ready to stop outsourcing, bloating management, and actually hiring straight White men who play video games yet? No?Oh, ok. HeySo basically I'm just gonna not buy it (your AAA slop)I Know..... UGH I know... It's just that I'm not gonna buy it is all HAHAHAHAHRHAHAHA HARAHARHAR
>>744693604You have to be pretty fucking stupid to inherit one of the biggest franchises in gaming, run it into the ground, get like 4 more chances, and still fucking up each time. Halo is incredibly difficult to fuck up and yet they find ways. They cant even re-release older games without fucking it up.

>>744700501So buggy that it was genuinely unplayable for years after launch. They would make Bethesda blush. Older games have a bunch of gay OC donut steel cosmetics shoved in that do not fit in at all, Halo 3 especially. They don't even have the original menus for the games so you don't get the full experience and you're instead stuck with one of the worst UIs I've ever seen.

>>744694538They didn't. Bungie left on their own accord because they were sick of Microsoft and Halo. 343 took over and has always been women and Indians and therefore never produced much of worth
>>744693515Has anyone made comprehensive list of where each of the assets come from? Seems like a fair bit is straight up lifted from Reach.
>>744701243Remember when they somehow created a bug in halo 2 that let you kill random people by shooting the ground with a shotgunRemember when matchmaking was completely broken for about 4 years.I have no idea how the fuck microsoft didn't just kill them then.

>>744700795Has any game that underwent game engine switch in its development ever turned out good? I feel like every time there's such news on a game, you can tell that the project would fail catastrophically
>>744701604I completely dropped the game after the first couple months and didn't come back to it until the PC release. They couldn't even make the campaigns work properly, I constantly had issued with shit not loading and progress not being saved.
>>744701297I watched a couple clips of the new missions for shits and giggles and it's depressing listening to how old Steve Downes is. 14 years and they couldn't give him one good game, not even some cool lines. What's worse is that he's 343's last claim at legitimacy and once he retires they've got nothing left.
>>744700281Fuck you, Sonic Team can make both good and successful games at times. See Shadow Generations for example.
>>744697797Anon... That wasn't even 343, that was mostly saber interactiveYou don't hate 343 nearly enough
>>744700246Honestly this was the final straw for me and I refunded (though I need more money for magic). But they HAD THE FUCKING GAME already and couldn't just revamped it, that is just bad.
the new missions are pretty bad. There are only 2 environments with the covenant ship being the majority and they reuse a lot of rooms and encounters. It got pretty repetitive.
>>744701809I didn't know that. There is truly nothing redeemable from them outside of halo 4's Cortana model.I just remembered that they charged money to unlock different colors for your spartan in infinite and got rid of team colored armors all together to replace it with fucking highlighted outlines. We really do not hate 343 enough.
>>744701967>halo 4 CortanaProbably the only really based thing they ever did yeah
the animations look a little weird. like there isnt enough "oomph" behind them. also chief's body looks strange when you look down, he's very skinny.

>>744696296Chuds keep buying it though. Remake after remake, slurp slurp slurp.
>>744702630Almost. At the very least The war against the Covenant wasn't made to be pointless and at least the main characters of the franchise weren't made to be complete losers. See Star Wars for how it could have been slightly worse.

Pretty funny how these retards are struggling with a generic remake. Everything is already there, they don't need to invent or design anything new and yet these morons can't do even that.

>>744700113>Doubt it. They showed the silent cartographer cutscene months agoThat doesn't mean it's not true. They could have spent that time finishing the other ones.
>>744700501It's a decent port now but for a good half a decade it was borderline unplayable, glitchy and buggy, and just hot garbage
>>744697010Square is UE4 and I'm not sure I would point at KHIII's 9 thousand year dev cycle or FFVIIR vs FFXVI as great achievements for licensing an engine.
>>744703813Did it really take 5 years to fix?
gay niggas. gay niggas.
>>744702630I would say people that play sports games get raped the most but they all have battered woman syndrome
>>744700501Pretty sure it still can't do online coop in reach because its netcode is built for Lan speeds and constantly rubber bands as it rechecks game state constantly and rolls back the client every time there's a mismatch. That's been my experience with it anyway
>>744703689343 is also mostly contractors at this point, but I really hope they get a bullet to the head soon because it sounds like they have no plan on what they even want to do so they're going to waste years remaking the original trilogy.
>>744703907No they fucked off for 4 years because the amount of potential buyers on Xbox One that didn't already own the game was basically nobody.

>>744704281>>744704475>>744704623I think it boils down to two things1. They literally cannot find a replacement for 343. Microsoft wants Halo to keep going on but they can't find a replacement studio nor is making a new one viable because that's how this problem began to begin with. 2. Halo as an IP is more geared for a multimedia franchise than Doom.
343 unironically deserves to die. The studio AND the employees.

>>744705075I never played the second one so idc.But I liked Halo Wars 1.
>>744704894why didnt they have id develop or help with halo? is it not that simple?
Is there anywhere to even go with the Halo IP story wise at this point? Isnt it pretty done and dusted? They would have to think of some really arbitrary reason to make an actual next installment, yeah?
>>744705215Not really. 343 has literally been trying to figure it out for over a decade at this point and still has no idea on what to do.
>>744705048I find it hilarious how their name on the cover became such a massive red flag that they felt the need to change name in the first place
>>744705215unironically having a lower stakes story about the aftermath of the war and how the humanity is battered but starting to find their footing thanks to reclaiming their birthright with the various covenant species having to essentially rebuild their societies after realizing their religion was a lie could have easily worked, especially if they focused on the later part, but they pretty much doomed that idea pretty early on
>>744705215Spin offs set earlier in the war is the only real option desu. At the end of Halo 3 humanity is on the brink of extinction, they only have a single planet left and have to spend a long time rebuilding. Reminder that Reach is the closest planet to Earth and humanity didn't start resettling and fixing the planet until nearly 4 decades after the war.Yet somehow in Halo 4, just 4 years after 3, humanity is seemingly back up to full power, with fuckloads of spartans and an xbawks hueg capital ship??
>>744693515this remake got me to play halo 1 for the first time (MCC) after being a "halo? more like gaylo reach around babys first fps lol" kid playing unreal tournament 2k4/tf2 instead because I didnt have an xbox and I wanna officially say I'm sorry this game is fucking fun and cool dude (on heroic anyway)

>>744704876Nigga, you were comparing Sonic Team (a rather incompetent group of devs who at least like the IP they are working on and can make good games) to fucking 343 industries (the devs who were hired because they hate/are apathetic to the franchise they are working on and have yet to produce anything that has created more profit/increased the brand value of the ip compared when compared to the prior game they released).

There's not as much impact with guns, warthog is quiet and doesn't echo in caves, and a really autistic thing for me is the sniper doesn't have that specific sound when you zoom in all the way and hit zoom again to go back to hipfire, it uses the same zoom in sound again.
>>744693689DEI does that to studios.
>>744700501On top of all the bugs and shit, its ludicrously poorly optimised, halo ce and 2 take up something like 20-30 gigs of hard drive space and halo 3 can't break 20fps on my laptop from 2018 despite being released in 2007

>>744705215Honestly the premise of the dawn crashing into a forerunner planet is not a bad one. The main problem though are enemies. If we're not fighting covenant this time around its probably going to be robots or wildlife (or maybe flood). I cant imagine that's enough to carry a whole gameThe covenant's raison d'être is gameplay, so that there's varied enemy design. The lore came later. Either a brand-new alien alliance is there (contrived) a bunch of forerunner bots are angry (potentially boring) or the wildlife gets a bit crazy.
>>744706365Geeeeegggg this

Asha has already put an axe into their plan because the entire point of the remake is now pointless because they cannot do Playstation releases anymore.
>>744705192id is the Doom (and possibly Quake) studio. Giving Halo to them will take time away from their own IP, especially with how long development times are now.
>The original levels and combat encounters weren't designed for these things, so not accounting for them could have created all kinds of issues. Like it fuckin' did, and like I said it would? Who would've thought that putting mechanics in a game that wasn't designed for them would lead to issues. 343 is a magical kind of retarded, it's fucking amazing.>the studio's hubris led to further setbacks down the line. What hubris? They've never done anything good outside of Halo 4 Cortana, which I doubt was even designed by them, considering how they outsource damn near their entire jobs. >>744697170Yes you can blame the tools because the engine wasn't created by 343 anyways. Honestly I'm just glad 343 decided to make a remake instead of pretending they know how to make something new. All their ideas, the enemies, the sound effects, the music, even the menus, feel completely soulless and don't resemble Halo in anything but the name. It's like the studio couldn't be bothered to understand what made Halo special and just soft rebooted it into a generic sci-fi robot shooter.I fucking hate the Prometheans so much bros.

The thing that baffles me the most is that they decided to not use the Infinite enemies, which have really good AI and movement, and instead returned to a game from 15 years ago. Just the fact that Brutes and Elites (and Marines) can pick up weapons makes them incredibly more threatening.
>>744717038I have one theory as to why, and it's not a great idea: the fact that Slipspace was such a fucking mess that they had no one that programmed it left and had to scramble to get some other shit working, so they went to the last new piece of code they made back in 2019. Halo Reach MCC.

MP still has a gamma overbrightening bug you can't fix in any way whatsoever to this day as the simplest fucking thing to fix, and none of its glitches were resolved past initial dumpster fire patch cycle shit. >>744704281The hearsay from layoffs and boards implies that it's because Id was too independent and expensive on their own terms, and Microsoft saw it as "overly big expenditures" and slit some throats to rein it in. Off in Frankfurt, running their own tech engine, giving it off to only Machinegames and while others tried to use IdTech no one else got it going well before Id decided to cut off support, they were running on full employees and benefits instead of Microsoft's obsession with 18-month contractors with zero benefits, and the list goes on. So Microsoft functionally disembowled them to curb costs hard and force Id into compliance.343/Halo Studios is so contractor-filled that whoever worked on Infinite isn't around for CER and that was only five years ago. They've repeatedly gutted the studio every year and a half, there's a constant in-and-out circular rotation, but this also means the management just do not get shit done worth a damn and no one has any firm direction, so they just keep rolling with the stupidity. >>744719493the funny thing is the reaction to sprint. people said it's too easy to skip every encounter, so not only did they nerf it into being almost pointless, but then they added a brand new mechanic: slow down on damage that not only cancels sprint but hitches your movement and your controller aiming every time you take a hit. they literally have no idea what to do with sprint and the movement versus fans being pissy about it that they just took a bat to the player's kneecaps despite the highest base movement speed in the franchise technically.and you can STILL regularly sprint past many flood encounters because their aggression is so nerfed and infection forms no longer explode on contact, only from direct dive attacks.
>>744719031Dark Ages isn't nearly as good as Eternal, but the DLC took steps to rectify that and it was nowhere near as broken and incomplete as any Halo release in the past 15 years.
its amazing with all the studios xbox closes but they keep 343/halo studios on life support despite being arguably the most incompetent of them all

>>744695928>"Halo Infinite probably shouldn't have tried to do so many new things at once." -343LMAO, the fuck are they talking about? The game DID LESS then previous games. It did less then their first game, halo 4. It did nothing new except a shitty ubisoft style open world for the campaign which was already done with ODST and there have been plenty of games they could have learned from that did it better. They can't make a Halo game and they even fail at apologizing/excusing not being able to make a Halo game. I really wish I worked a job that lets me fuck up and lie so many times and still get paid.

>>744694893how is MCC seen as a failure? theres still tons of players playing on PC today. and its just a huge bundle of all the classic Bungie games, which still holds up to this day.
>>744694139That is the issue. They gutted the studio like 5 times now. Anyone with any talent left the building ages ago. The leftover people either don't care and only in for the resume or depressed as fuck because they know their games will be shit. Campaign Evolved is smaller scale than CE was at the time when it came out and it is still mediocre at best. Romour says it (and like 90% of Xbox rumors are true) they cancelled the next mainline Halo and the multiplayer spin off. They supposed to make Halo 2-3 etc remakes in the next decade but even that is in question. It is fucking over.
>>744695468I think it's more to do with the release window, they couldn't push the game any further back without getting hit by the end-of-year GTA6 rape train or pushing it into 2027 and missing the 25th anniversary entirely.
>>744713082If someone's complimenting CE, they're not talking about CampE.
>>744722997cuz they were already gutted after halo 5. thats why infinite was outsourced rubbish. but MS are retards who didn't learn their lesson and decided to outsource for demake again and surprise, surprise, it's shit.

The truth is that the upcoming 1600 layoffs are for studios like 343 and coalition that still had games to ship. They're not getting by unscathed by any means
>>744724240how is it hard to believe? i processed it years ago. halo has been nothing but a dumpsterfuck of embarrassment since 343 took over. they had to change their name to halo studios because 343 wasn't associated with a single good title

I want to ask, earnestly, all the people that are upset by 343's continued blunders: do you actually expect anything different? How can you be upset at the studio that's only ever made shitty games for making shitty games? I wrote these people off after Halo 4, and have never been surprised since. The MCC port to PC was a pleasant surprise, but removed even the tiniest bit of reason for me to give a shit- I have the good games, albeit in a worse form for some, what do I care about the dollar-store version?Hand to God I'm not mocking you, I'm just confused as to how you can muster the energy to be mad about this for this long.

Opinions on Pierre Hintze? He was supposedly treated like a savior because he "singlehandedly saved MCC" when all he did was bug fixing, and then they made him work on this remake
>>744725885Just as bad as the rest of them. He's also the one who wanted to add microtransactions to MCC. Only reason that didn't happen is because of backlash. "Saving" MCC isn't praiseworthy, it's the fucking least they could do. The game shouldn't have required saving to begin with.
>>744725885>one guy gets brought in to fix cluster-fuck involving studio with decade-plus track record of failure, and a bunch of outsourced indian devs>he can'ti don't know much about him other than he's not Jesus, so I don't think he had much of a chance of saving 343/Halo.
>>744693515Is there a reason why they couldn't have delayed it by another year just to clean the bullshit up? They've got Gears coming in October, so it's not like MS doesn't have a big game release this year, and all this served to do is cement everyone's belief that the franchise is dead as fuck, when this should have been the start of the comeback tour. Even dedicated Halo channels are turning on it, and everyone I've heard talk about it have been saying "Please just leave 2 and 3 alone". I can't begin to describe how much it infuriates me that Id got the hatchet while Halo Studios and Machine Games somehow skipped through the layoff minefield unscathed. The former has been destroying MS's golden goose for the last 15 years, and the latter's games always sell like vinegar ice cream.
>>744693515Good.
>>744726581You can polish shit as much as you want, but at the end of the day it will still be shit. Xbox as it is currently would definitely not give them more time especially when the development already sounds like a mess.
>>744726581i'm old enough to remember blizzard spending years and tons of money on 2 different games (the thrall point+click, ghost) and then deciding>this isn't up to our standardsand them never seeing the light of day. that mindset doesn't exist in modern gaming. they needed a game to release in this quarter to appease shareholders so it didn't matter whether the game was functional or not. they'll just weather the outrage, fix it later, and then pat themselves on the back for the fixed product. this has happened numerous times over the years>Master Chief Collection>Cyberpunk>No Man's Sky>Every Civilization game since IV
The fuck did they have to develop? The gameplay and AI is taken from reach, everything else from the original Halo CE. They literally only had to make the graphics and steal the models from older halos. Like the work was halfway done, how could they have fucked it up that bad.
>>744693515Most of what I know about Halo comes from lore videos (mostly PancreasNoWork) and Red vs Blue. I get the basics on Elites, Grunts, and Brutes, but I want to dive into the other factions.Anyone have a good lore/setting video recommendations for the Prophets (San'Shyuum) and the bird pirate guys (Kig-Yar/Jackals)? Looking for something high quality that covers their history and role in the Covenant.
>>744726786unless you really care enough about the universe to get immersed in fiction, just read wikis. most video game fiction is total slop. i think the eisenhorn novels are the only gaming-related books i have ever enjoyed.
>>744693515>Halo Studios works with a bevy of external teams and contractorsWhy?
>>744727047because all of the DEI coordinators, artists, and administrative directors at Halo Studios need to hire game developers to make the actual software
>>744726768And the irony of it is that the game is bombing everywhere, in spite of their rush to get it out the door to appease shareholders. It's why I respected David Zaslav's decision at WB to forever shelve the Batgirl movie when it was essentially done, because he recognized that it was so shit that it would have caused major long-term brand damage.
>>744727047Microsoft/Xbox doesn't want to pay benefits by having permanent employees, so they use contractors and then boot them out the door when they are no longer needed.Part of the reason why 343 had to ditch Slipstream Engine was because so many different contractors worked on it, and nobody passed on documentation, that 343 couldn't even use the engine.People really aren't joking when they call 343 an adult daycare because the likely only permanent employees there are HR and the related departments.
>>744727146>major long-term brand damage.Good news is that the Halo brand has already been super damaged for a long time, so this does absolutely nothing but once again confirm how utterly shit 343 is.
i'm worried about the halo 2 remake. if they're reusing all the animations, models, AI, and music from prior games, then it's literally just gonna feel like CEmake again, only the arenas you fight in look different. imagine going from the CE to 2 back in the day. all the differences were insane. now imagine jumping from CEmake to 2make. it'd basically be a DLC rather than a sequel. plus unlike CEmake. halo 2 anniversary isn't half bad so why wouldn't i just play that if i want to play a remastered halo 2?
>>744726768Modern studios still cancel games sometimes. Sega canned the abysmal, horrific Hyenas game right before launch even though they had spent 4000 trillion billion dollars on it.
>>744727146yeah it doesn't make sense to me either for the reasons you mentioned. i feel like we've gotten to the point where the money people behind gaming don't even care about image or the games making money, because then they can just claim it as a loss for tax shenanigans. there is so much money behind gaming that it's way more (((complex))) than>make good game>get good reputation>profit>repeatthat used to define all of the best developers
>>744697797That wasn't done by 343. Most of that work was done by Saber and the Dig site team. It also came after years of the MCC being a broken piece of shit (still not completely fixed).
>>744727303true but that was also a live service game so that was just cutting their losses. i doubt they would have cancelled a single player game they put that much money into.
>>744727376Shareholders are really the worst kind of people. They really don't care about what kind of product the company puts out, or really even knows what it is, but what they expect is the line to go up every single quarter and if the line doesn't go up then they want blood. It's like the one Nintendo shareholder call where one fucking shareholder had the audacity to ask why they were talking about video games so much, like the guy was shocked that Nintendo wanted to talk about their upcoming games or how games had done over talking about how they were going to squeeze customers for more money.
>>744694893What's wrong with the MCC?
>>744727660yeah one of the only companies that consistently does what i mentioned is fromsoftware, and what are they always hearing from their shareholders?>hey your beloved genre-defining games don't make enough money as we think they could >you need to make some changes!they literally do not care about the quality of games.
>>744693515Whatever, shut them down already, they’re incapable of making anything decent.
>>744727660If the line goes -1, -1, +200 then he’s just been made a fool of. He would have bought at -2 and then had a better return, someone just got one over on him. That can never happen. But if the line goes +4, -100, -all of it because the business shut down, that’s awesome. He sold at +4 because he knew they’d just burned through it. He got his, what happens after isn’t his problem.
>>744693515Impressive how despite 343's rebranding to Gaylo Studios, they're still the same shit company as before. Might as well just shutdown the studio and fire every single fucking person in that company. It might as well not even be a company if all they're going to do is just hire DEI trash and pajeets to do low quality work as evident by Halo: Campaign Evolved.
>>744693515I really appreciated the devs decision to release the more expensive version of the game early so I could see that it looks like hammered shit and cancel my naively placed preorder.
>>744727047In theory you can sub out things like modeling and coding to contractors that specialize in these things. This means you don't have to go through the ass pain of finding and groveling for top talent. But in practice there are lots of nuances that can affect quality as other anons have said. Big ones include the lack of ownership, competing contractors undermining each other, and poor coordination.
>>744727376It's such a weird balancing act, because while shareholders (especially the big money guys who actually get a seat at the table) are largely just focused on "NUMBER GO UP BRRRRRR", they do also prod developers to actually get shit out the door. On the opposite end of the spectrum (just as shitty in a lot of ways, imo) is the completely privately owned Valve, which hasn't mad a game of actual note in fucking ages, and just seems content to coast on Steam money, buy yachts, take Hawaii vacations, and occasionally fart out a tech demo with a Portal skin when a new piece of hardware releases.
It would be really cool if modders could remake the in-game engine cutscenes. The original cutscenes relied heavily on the npc animations from the gameplay and I'd imagine it would'nt be too hard to port the animations to the Unreal slopengine. Then other modders could go crazy changing how Cortana looks or how anything else looks and keep it consistant during the cutscenes.
>>744728423I could make more faithful recreations of the Halo 1 cutscenes in Halo Custom Edition than anyone at Gaylo Studios.
>>744693515>Troubled DevelopmentThey literally fucked up everything. All they had to do was FUCKING take Combat Evolved/Anniversary Edition Combat Evolved and heavily improve the graphics.Meanwhile not only the graphics are shit, they added stuff that wasn't in the OG Halo CE, but they also cut out stuff like multiplayer. And yes, they were doing an exclusively multiplayer Halo game...which I would ask WHY? Why not include the damn multiplayer into Campaign Evolved? But the damage is done and I hope Asha simply shuts down Halo Studios and outsource the IP to someone else. Saber Interactive seems like a good choice. id too, but sadly id got gutted, so Saber is the only good choice here.
>>744701931Or even simpler.Simply take the original Combat Evolved and mod it to work on newer hardware.
>2021, Microsoft buys Id>Microsoft fires all of 343 and declares their games noncanon>Assigns Halo to Id from now onThat was all they had to make a lot of money, it really was that simple.
>>744728423There's a mod on Nexus that at least improves Cortana's appearance in cutscenes, I'm assuming through AI sloppa.
>>744727847At launch it was plagued with bugs, broken or missing features, crashed constantly and dropped connection every other match. My favorite bug was the unbalanced teams. You could queue up for 5v5 slayer and end up in a 4v6 for no reason. Most of this has been fixed, but there is still one big issue that remains. Spawn points don't behave correctly on a lot of H1-3 maps.
>>744728372yeah obsidian is the same way. they release a buggy shitfest (new vegas at launch) and blame the producer for rushing them but if they don't get rushed they sit around doing nothing or just work on other projects with your money (like sega found out with alpha protocol).it just sucks to read that companies like fromsoftware are getting shit from shareholders because it proves that there is no value in quality games if they don't sell like FIFA.even hollywood understands the concept of>prestige movies may not make much money but they win awards and help our reputationbut that seems completely lost on gaming shareholders
>>744705161>hurrr instead of building up teams, lets just use contractors for everything>why do people not like our buggy, unfocused gamesMicrosoft moment
>>744724686Yeah, Halo 4 had the best graphics on X360. It still looks incredible in the MCC though the very high resolution reveals many of the trickery they used to make it look better than it is. There is a documentary somewhere about the black magic they had to do to churn out the maximum of the system. I would argue even Halo 5 looked great. Now they can't even ship a complete product.
>>744724856Yeah because people operate on the capitalist assumption of:- if someone makes a mistake they are incentivized to learn from it and do better next time- if someone keeps failing they will be cast aside and more competent people will take over their place>in general things need to get better because capitalism forces competition and clear cut competition is offering something betterThe problem is after a market produces "too big to fail" companies these principles won't be true anymore because incompetent hacks begin operating on plutocracy and/or nepotism. Basically Xbox learnt nothing in the past ten years and they began to force everything with money. The moment they finally realize this won't work the division will be killed overnight.
>>744727174Sounds like a bad business decision

Halo “fans” deserved this for rejecting the TV show. You had a smart, tightly written cinematic masterpiece with snappy dialogue and sophisticated characters made for a mature audience… and threw a hissy tantrum because, uh, the rifle doesn’t look accurate to the game you played 20 years ago? This is justice.

>>744693550>Rebs Gaming went on to allege that overall mismanagement created multiple obstacles for the team and even led to the cancellation of a multiplayer Halo projectThat checks out, Microsoft management is almost always too retarded to handle anything.

Is the best way to play halo 1 MP MCC or do people still fuck with custom edition?

>...Had a Troubled DevelopmentSeeing this headline a lot recently. Maybe AAA studios are just incompetent?
>>744693515The studio is getting closed.
>>744730442I rather we had something like Halo 3 again.Halo 4 had an unstable framerate, especially in Coop, I played around December of the release year and it would reach the 20s or maybe even less with a friend in the latter chapters. They had to despawn guns to save up on resources, when something I liked in past Halo games was being able to go back and pick up something else. The LOD, even and especially on the MCC where you are playing at 4K is laughable, you can see the low res assets, is quite glaring on the mission where you got the elephant.
>>744734962Nah, they'll just gut another mildly successful studio they own for the resources to try again.
>>744711813no, they own the franchise, bungie handed it over to them when they went independent. originally they were going to just license the game out to random studios, like how we got halo wars. but bonnie ross wanted to have something she could claim full control over as an up and coming executive in microsoft, she wanted to be the george lucas of the halo franchise, so she got some bungie employees on board and convinced microsoft to form 343i that will do nothing but create halo games while also making a bunch of books, tv shows, movies, ect.
>>744693689Have you seen the people working in these offices? They do 20 mins of actual work all day and call off work whenever they can(pto, leave off absence or mental health days) and get nothing done for years. If a game does come out like campaign evolved, it's because it was rushed by the very last minute.Gaming today is fucking over.
>>744693604Halo 5 showed a spark of brilliance with its multiplayer. I fucking loved Warzone until it became P2W.
>>744702630star wars is up therethey produce B tier tv shows to sell plushes now
>>744705215close the studio, reboot the IP and open a studio either in europe or china
>>744700081I will never understand how using an engine that requires royalties forever is the cheaper option instead of having an in-house tech team. I cannot imagine epic still having their hand in my pocket 15 years after the game came out, poking me for pennies.
>>744733627>>744733713I wouldn't even mind if they filled in the gaps by explaining it through the course of the game, but they only explained a fraction of it in Infinite.Even an "earlier in Halo" blurb or video at the start of the game would help.
>>744693515>HALO Remake Had a Troubled Development,no surprise there
>>744733660They're also on a war footing and have been so for decades, the ship was probably in the works for years.

>>744736137a truly incompetent studio that couldn't figure out how to implement the original progression system and replaced it with something everyone considered worse
Why did it take so long to remake the old game if you have all the codes and the engine can't you just reference that?
>>744736137>Zero bloom DMR starts for every match to the point where BTB is just crossmap sniping and even tanks have no chancenever listen to fans

>>744736942translation:>we couldn't just copy and paste the old system and it would have been too time-consuming to remake it from the ground up>so we just made something half-assed insteadimagine literally admitting that you couldn't be assed to put in the base amount of effort into remaking a game
>>744737004It's not always that simple. That said, the people doing this were also managed by some of the most incompetent leadership out there, so it was likely to take twice as long and still come out unfinished.
>>744702630I like Halo and don't like Star Trek, but I feel like both franchises are neck and neck for most raped.
How do you fuck up a halo CE remake? The game is literally already designed. All you have to do is take what's there and recreate it with better graphics. You don't have to invent anything new, everything is already planned out for you from 25 years ago.
>>744737454i like both of them and it's honestly a tough call between the two, but i feel like mickey mouse has thoroughly out-raped them both with star wars at this point...which is impressive since they've had star wars for less than than 343 has had halo.
>>744731592It's awful.343 can't optimize for SHIT.
>>744702630Arguably yes, especially when it comes to lore. I don't know of any other franchise where it was so suddenly handed over to entirely new people who then instantly started making fanfic-tier bullshit that completely rewrote and invalidated what came before. It's so annoying because OG halo lore is very fascinating, but nowadays you have to sift through a layer of bullshit from 343i that's been slathered on top. Especially everything regarding the retcon of humanity no longer being forerunners.
>>7447376792A makes sense since it's the only post-360 game but how the hell is Halo 4 so fat 343 are a joke
>>744728850All they had to do was port MCC to the PS5
>>744737557Are you saying they shouldn’t have changed all the original voice acting or the weapon sound effects?
>>744693515Western studios are always whining instead of making an average game, they’d rather make a mediocre one. Then they’ll whine about low sales and no interest even though the studio chose the demographic they were catering to.

>>744702630WoW is the worst of it
>>744737812I think it's just uncompressed/higher res stuff. Looking at the folders, the maps are at 9.34GB which is already larger than the entirety of the original game, sound at 5.59GB with half of that being other languages, spartan ops videos at 4.38GB, then terminals and cutscenes take up about 4GB

>>744717669>Asha needs to shut down 343 studios and give the halo ip to idShe killed id.
Played it on legendary with some old friends on gamepass. I loved it just to be able to play with them, but it was quite a shitshow yeah. And legendary was piss easy now, mostly because when someone dies it takes like 2 seconds for them to respawn. In the classic games you had to retreat quite a ways away from enemies for it to be safe to respawn, but now you respawn as soon as you're like 10 meters away from enemies so there's almost no risk in rushing forward
>>744740136>It made the DMR even stronger than the CE pistolYou're exaggerating. The DMR had the slowest TTK out of every single human precision weapon in the series up to that point. Even in ZB it takes nearly 2 full seconds to kill someone. CE's pistol killed in just over half a second.>and rendered all other non power weapons useless. Why are people still pretending that the DMR wasn't the best gun in vanilla too? The TU unironically buffed a bunch of weapons and allowed them to actually challenge the DMR. The AR got its melee combo back, the Needle Rifle killed in one shot less and had no bloom even inn 85% modes, and the magnum killed in 4 shots before they nerfed it after like a week. When are you using any of those guns in vanilla Reach over a DMR and why?

>>744725885>all he did was bug fixingMCC got a lot of new features after coming to PC. Stuff like increasing the firefight player cap, adding all the missing Halo 3 weapons and enemies to ODST, overhauling Halo 3 forge to have some Reach functionality, and porting over a ton of pieces to both Reach and 4's Forge. They were doing a legitimately good job for a while, then Infinite came out and they had to stop because people wouldn't play the new game if the old one kept getting more features lol
>>744693515why does it have to be like that? why do western studios keep sabotaging themselves? why can't you idiots get your shit together and start making fun games ppl want to play? do you really wish for the future where only EU and Asia are making high quality AAA video games and you'll just hold the money bag? this halo was the fucking easiest win you could score and yet you still managed to fumble it.
>>744693689>hire only foids and pajeets>give them ai tools as a means to accomplish something>task them with remaking halo 1>they spend billions to shit out a snoy movie game interpretation >game fades out of existence after 2 days post launch The bonus story was fun to shitpost about at the very least.
