Unfortunately it's still dragged down by a multitude of issues that have nothing to do with the plot or story. It would be a much better game if you for instance, just removed the somniel entirely. Thankfully mods can do this, but people who actually bought the game on Switch cannot. Somehow the somniel is even more of a slog than the Monastery was in 3H, so a very, very bad element of Engage's gameplay that always comes to bite you in the ass after each chapter. It's pants on head retarded game design so all you're left with is some of the maps being fun and well designed, but I also wouldn't call it the best gameplay in the franchise either even if you were to remove the tedium entirely. Engage is a fine game, cons aside. It's a shame more people didn't support it, but at the same time I don't blame them for not really giving it a chance. The main characters have the opposite effect of getting people interested in the game unfortunately, which is not what the lord for your FE game should do. It's supposed to attract, not repel.

Unfortunately, that's not an option for people who actually bought the game and didn't hack their system or emulate it. Most other Fire Emblem games don't have to be emulated to be enjoyed, so it's hard to rate Engage as it is without mods. With mods, you can start making the argument it's a much better game, almost a limitlessly better game. Without mods, not so much.
