What vidya difficulty spike haunted your childhood
>>
This fight is really not that hard and I'm not actually convinced you can lose unless you're retarded.
>>
dragon is harder
>>
I thought Dragon Maleficent was the newb filter
>>
>>744700637
There was this boss fight in an Action Man game with some big mutant plant that was so much harder than the rest of the game it almost made me quit forever.

If you chose the shield, you will have Second Chance by this point no doubt.
Even if you don't have Guard, Riku 2 has a strange loop that is perfectly synced to the first parry
After the parry, you can attack again, and then next attack he does will almost always be the start of his regular combo, which will be parried by your next hit.
Unlike Riku 1, Combo Plus does work here!
Go to the corner of the computer when he does Dark rush
Also obviously have as much dark resistance as possible, not that it's really necessary because even in lv1 crit he cannot deal enough damage in one hit to kill you. So yeah, this fight is a lot easier than you may remember. Maleficent 2 is honestly a much harder fight. And the fight before Final Rest (Linked Worlds) is sooo much worse.

lv1 proud* keep forgetting
>>
Unironically BoatSem because I was a skillful retard that never grinded so I didn't have the stats to tank him, and would just replay KH instead of grinding Hades cup. I also didn't knew Aero actually halved damage until I saw my neighbor beat the game years later.
>>
>>744700637
I'll be honest, Dragon Maleficent was worse for me. Then years later, I learned you spam gravity and stop to cheese her.

i beat dragon on my first try as a 6 year old. The problem with the riku-ansem boss fight as we all know is the unskippable 2 and a half minute cut scene that plays before the fight.

It took me until the 360 re-release of Sonic Adventure in my teenage years to finally clear sonic adventure because of Big the Fucking cat. Kid me couldn't figure out the fishing controls.

I remember dying a lot to demon riku, I think I was underleveled though, coming back after 20 years I beat him easily on my first try.

i literally could not time the rocket as a kid and always noclipped into him
>>
>>744701402
You needed counterattack equipped along with a keyblade with at least SOME reach to it, but yes. Both Riku fights are an instant win if you just mindlessly swing at him.
>>
>>744700637
to be honest, I don't think it was that difficult, I think the problem was watching that unskippable cutscene every damn time. Like a mix between frustration with waiting, and losing that warm up, that's what did it.
>>
>>744700637
Honestly I think the worst part about this boss is - not the boss itself but what happens after defeating the boss, because many enemies in previous worlds become stronger and in olympus arena fights... even what is supposed to be the easier fights and also the timed fights.

I was in my low 30s when I was at the end of Hollow Bastion, because I chose slow early leveling.

This haunted my childhood, it's the most terrifying thing Nintendo ever put in a kid's game

Seriously, the difficulty spike was insane, even on normal mode back in the day.

I swear I remember not beating this fight until sometime after I got KH2, but I was also a weird kid who would grind in Traverse Town despite the exp being shit by that point.
>>
honestly the boss made me get good at video games

Every time I've I've played this on original ps2 I always chose dawn and shield in my testing for low level runs. And I reach Dark Riku 2 by Level 39 (I've tried to go lower but without exp zero I don't see much better than maybe 38), which means I already have Leaf Veil, second Chance and Sliding Dash.
Leafveil and Second chance basically makes you immortal and it will be incredibly hard for enemies to actually kill you at this point as long as you do not flub menu inputs when selecting Ethers. But now I'm curious how low it would actually be if you chose like disk or midday. I feel like it would only be the difference of maybe 34-36 but it is a good question I need to test.
>>
>>744700637
I couldn't beat this fight cause my game kept crashing cause my disk had a lot of scratches.

ps2 final fix*

I don't think final bosses can really count as difficulty spikes
>>
>>744702608
but the difficulty did spike so there we go

I was so bad at WC3 that the March of the Scourge and Culling of Stratholme campaigns convinced me that I needed to use cheat codes for the rest of the missions, especially invincibility. Took me a long time before I ran the campaign on Normal and later for Hard.

>Paper Mario 64
>beginning of chapter 3 where you have to get to Bow's mansion
>one part of forest has you go towards a dead end and one takes you to the actual objective
>for some reason as a kid I hard wired the dead end route into my head and couldn't figure out where to go for the life of me
>literally stuck like this for a year so I'd just replay the beginning parts
>one day just randomly go a different way
>it fucking works
Worst part is I later got a strategy guide that guides you towards the dead end route. I thought something was wrong with my game and read ahead and spoiled the game for myself.

>this game RAPED me
