Not him but I'm actually playing for the first time and yes I'm enjoying kino.
Getting lost isn't as bad as System Shock (remake) was because you get a itinerary of where to go and what to do at least.

rough spot, rest of the game is a cakewalk though
but this is why you get 1 point in energy and carry several laser pistols, fuck robutts
>>
>>744701061
That is one of the most absurd difficulty spikes in any single player game. The rest of the game is significantly easier (mainly because you get better skills relative to it).

A few tips:
-A weapons quality doesn't matter until it is 0 it has a chance to break. A quality 1 weapon does the same damage as quality 10.
-Standard weapons, Maintenance (just to 2), and Hack are the easiest skills.
-Waste health if you must, never waste ammo.

I finished the SS2 remaster a couple of weeks ago. I played through it on a Steam Deck because I was lazy and wanted to play it in bed. I liked it but parts were a little clunky. The platforming parts were few and far between but they were dogshit due to how sloppy the character's jumps are.

The entire time I was playing I was thinking of how fun it would be to play the game in four player co-op with each player going hard into a specific specialization.

When it comes to co-op, how does the game work? Are there more nanites/modules to handle the extra players, or do you all have to fight over the same number that a single player gets in a normal game? If one person researches something does everyone get the effect or just the player who did the actual researching? If one person picks up a keycard do the rest of the players have to wait until that person opens the locked door, or do they all have the key? Etc.

>Remake of System Shock completely bins the ending of the designs of the original game at the end when Shodan is creating living synthetic matter with weird gieger walls
>Enemy designs are all dogshit too

Have a sinking fealing that a lot of people that like System Shock 2 and the remake haven't actually finished the original or just watched some faggot E-celeb play/talk about it
>>
>>744712997
Pseud. The devs themselves said the gieger shit in the final level made no sense and they put it there just because they thought it looked cool at the time. Shodan is THE STATION. She abhors organic matter. If anything, it's a tumor or cancer, not Shodan herself.

Try a PSI only run. It's fun.
>>
>>744713431
Just don't screw around with the buffs too much imo. They drop whenever you go through a loadscreen which is really annoying.
>>
>>744712997
I've played and finished the remake. I don't care if it makes sense or not I wish it had the creepy organic walls.
>this is what you want, this is what you get
>>
>>744713431
I did a military run with normal and heavy weapons it trivialized the fuck out of everything
>a million grenades for my grenade launcher, of all types
>a fuck you giant high tech explosion rifle
>had to put the game on hard midway because I was raping everything, even on hard it didn't stop

navy is easy mode right?
>>
>>744714391
Honestly I think standard weapons is just the most straightfoward.
The assault rifle just murders everything with no fuss.
Navy seems finnicky for not much gain by comparison imo.
>>
>>744713431
My favorite run was
>Energy 4 for laser rapier
>Heavy weapons 1 (OP Grenade Launcher with french (jeffrey) epstein device)
>Full psi otherwise
Was a lot of fun being a jedi with a pocket rocket launcher. This was on "Impossible" btw. I should try the actual psi melee sword one day.
>>
>>744712997
yeah ss2 fanboys are scared of playing the original for some reason
The organic cyber-gieger stuff is cool but the remake's gothic cyber cathedral is also appropriate, the actual ending in cyberspace is still shit though

>>
>>744716042
The remake is extremely faithful to the original. There's little to criticize it for so trannies get hung up on meaningless shit.
>>
These games really held up. I also really enjoyed SSRemake.
>>
>>744716290
Actually I think it looks really neat. I wish we had more games with old-school textures mixed with modern post processing. It gives the game a strong visual identity while being really small in size. I'm curious about what ss2 would look like if it got the full remake treatment like ss1.
>>
>>744717280
I love the game but come one, don't overglaze it. Some anon called it "visually the busiest game of all time" and that's a very apt description.
>>
>>744717450
I liked it. A super ship with fancy old future style techs like on the front picture of iron maiden's "somewhere in time" album embedded into every walls is supposed to look busy and full of blinking lights.
>>
>>744715418
>yeah ss2 fanboys are scared of playing the original for some reason
I played the original. I liked some things about it. I really wish the hacking in SS2 was better and more like the original in some way. But it was hard to deal with the HUD/controls, and despite how much people criticize some of the level design in 2 it seemed even worse in 1 sometimes.

Reminder the SS remake fixed a huge SS2 plothole
>>
>>744719043
hacking sucks in 2 it's literally just dicerolls and spending nanites
levels in 2 are pretty streamlined and there isn't much point to revisiting most areas, 1's levels can be a bit confusing and mazelike but never bad and the layouts translate just fine to the remake
>>
>>744712997
I was more dissapointed by the final fight.
Yes, original's end was crap but making up some Tron segment with completely new gameplay and logic was retarded.
Should have made a proper 6DOF fight with stages and various attacks/weapons.
>>
>>744713124

Completely irrelevant

>>
>>744719283
I just installed a quick and easy mod that upped damage and projectile speed on the weapons and the fight became bearable.
>>
>>744719064
What is the plothole?
>>
>>744720932
Isn't it about the many? You flung the portion of the ship containing them in deep space in the first game. So you need a worm hole thingamajig to justify them being there in SS2.
>>
>>744720932
The ejected Beta grove supposedly travelled from Saturn to Tau Ceti and developed the many in just 30 years.

The ejected portion of citadel station reaching tau ceti. It's a nearby system but it's still 12 light years away. SS2 takes place 40 years after, so that means bare mininum the ejected portion of citadel station needed to be launched at ~30% the speed of light, which is crazy

I don't know what black magic they used for the sound design in dark engine games, but it still feels more advanced than any sound design that's come after. Even modern games just don't have this feeling where you can close your eyes and clearly visualize where everything is around you purely based on the sound effects. I don't know if it's lost technology or modern devs just don't give a fuck and don't care that everything sounds flat or what.

My memory is fuzzy but it's something around the advent of the millenium where a company bought all the accelerated audio technologies and did nothing with the patents.
We started getting proper raytracing sounds a few years ago notably with Valve devving Steam Audio that's used in Alyx and CS2 I reckon.
>>
>>744721973
the music's ok but absolutely dogshit for the atmosphere
>but if fits flying around the ship with psi agility murdering things
the average first timer isnt doing that. first thing i did was turn the music down. it also sometimes covers up the creepy background ambiance/ambient music. like on deck 4 theres this one track that sounds like a brass instrument about to start up then just cuts off and repeats. i dont know why but its unsettling as fuck. anyway theres loads of really good sounds and ambiance, the music fucking ruins it...

Creative. Plus MS gutted the audio stack in windows for vista or 7. AMD tried to unfuck things to a point by slapping a dedicated audio processor in their gpus but that never caught on.

What's the best build for the first time playing?
>>
>>744722268
Actually, why send the grove to Tau Ceti at all? A Saturn's or Jupiters moon would work just as well with no need for any explanation.
>>
>>744722694
Navy, assault rifle is all you need
>>
>>744722497
Agree to disagree. Does it fit in a diegetic sense? No, but the hectic adrenalin-pumping beats mirror the feelings I had first playing the game and getting chased around the corridors by mutants and robots. It absolutely fits.
>>
>>744722715
Been a while since I've played, but I don't think any explanation was given in terms of a destination. I think it was just ejected and there wasn't any intention of it going anywhere in particular, and the canon explanation was that it was flung out into space in a random direction and just so happened to go on a trajectory toward Tau Ceti V. Which is of course extremely improbable, but not technically impossible, so less of a plot issue than the speed it needed to go to reach there.
>>
>>744722887
yeah well to each their own. i personally found it way more intense to be surrounded by the bleeps of computers and the dull hum of the von braun only to be put on edge by faint sounds of the midwifes metallic footsteps in another room
>>
>>744722694
Navy is definitely the most straightforward. Psi is more challenging at first but becomes super OP after a little bit, but requires a radically different way of playing the game. Once you pick up abilities like super speed you can literally just run in circles around enemies and wrench them to death and they're too slow to even turn around and attack you
>>
>>744723639
Nobody should become a space wizard on a first playthrough as to really get that off the ground you need to have pre-existing knowledge of the game. otherwise lmao no powers and no energy get fucked nerd.

>>
>>744715418
>for some reason
Everyone knows why. Even with the portable version the controls are hard to get used to. And I vaguely recall a level where the lights are out and all the enemies are nearly invisible.
>>
>>744722339
Hunt goes pretty hard on this kind of sound design. Core pillar of the game.
