Thanks, but I'll be sticking with my Retroid Pocket 6 12GB.

My pocket 5 runs 90% of switch games flawlessly. Reckon the nova should manage similarly but you wouldn't want to play switch on 4:3 anyway.

Why specifically get a 4:3 screen when you can just get a 16:9 and enable borders or just have black bars? That way you can play whatever?
>>
>>744708914
The only reason I can come up with is to make the device smaller.
>>
>>744705894
The Thor has a 4.9" usable area in 4:3 and the Nova is only 4.5." Kind of pointless for me. Also I like clamshells a lot more so hoping they make a Flip version of the Nova.
>>

What's the difference between this and the previous SP?
because I've got the old one, and it's still a pretty cozy little gizmo.
I don't really see how extra power could help it considering the lack of analog sticks kind of limits it to PSX and prior.

>>
>>744705894
I already have the 2S, 4Pro, and 5. I'm not sure what this would add; I've barely even touched the RP5 because I prefer the RP4 and 2S.
>>
>>744708914
Everything I want to play is 4:3, obviously. I'll wait till PS3 and X360 emulation is better on ARM and until the hardware is better and cheaper before I waste my time and money on a 16:9 device.
>>
>>744708914
Bars don't bother me, but your point is adjacent to something else, that being these higher end devices far outclass anything that ever really relied on 4:3 aspect ratios. I think this is where the RP2S (and similar devices) actually got the price-to-performance-to-AR about right.

The Nova obviously has a bigger and nicer screen, but I'm not sure that warrants its existence. If you aren't already drowning in handhelds like I am it's probably a worthy pick-up, but most people would probably be better off with something else.
>>
>>744713287

NTA, but I don't have any and have no clue where to start. What's the best one with a GBA SP form factor? Or maybe GBA Micro. I just want to play GBA and SNES games.

The 35XXSP has a 4:3 screen for 4:3 consoles and a default overlay for GBA games that gives them the correct aspect ratio. The 34XXSP has analog sticks and the same screen as the RGSP. What is the point of this thing? They should just make the 35XXSP with sticks.

>>744719731
actually you know what, my bad, i actually meant 12 frames, which is 50ms.
when emulation nowadays achieves 1 frame of lag, ur just getting 11 frames added thanks to android.
vote with your wallet and avoid android like the fucking plague.

>i was there for 2 generations before the PS1
Some of us grew up with PC instead and developed skills apart from memorizing the placement of Fork/Circle/Box/Tent.
I guess you scratch off the glyphs on all your controllers as soon as you buy them to make sure you don't accidentally miss out on a chance to remember the glyphs.

By all means, though, keep malding that I bought a sticker for 20 cents and haven't bothered to take it off.

what do you mean by "one frame"? if youre running at 30fps then one frame would be 33ms, at 60fps it would be 16ms etc. In the video you provided, hes running a 60fps game with the screen set to 120hz, which means the renderer is showing each frame twice. Supposedly hes getting 50ms end to end latency with runahead, which is pretty good considering snes hooked up to a crt also has around 50-80ms~ of end to end latency, see pic related. (however you really need a screen tester for a test like this, just counting the frames isnt really enough)

>>
>>744707261
It does. But the aspect ratio and resolution mean that it will be blurry and have black bars
>>
>>744721490
the point is this:
NES, in this case, is being run through meme options that are supposed to give you better latency than on real hardware.
this, of course, isn't happening because android has incredible amount of overhead and is an awful platform for games.
now imagine on games WITHOUT runahead, imagine PCSX2 which is already a laggy piece of shit on windows.
its simple, linux is the future on these devices, as much as i hate it, and the chinks will never learn their lesson cuz the people that buy these devices collect them rather than actually use them.

and when i mean 1 frame i literally mean 1 frame at 60fps, retroarch runahead on windows can make FB neo run that fast.

You can play 4:3 games on 16:9 without problem.
The same isn't true for 16:9 games on 4:3 screens.
I don't know why woud you shoot yourself on the foot by buying a handheld with a limited catalog of games to play, but that's your own business.
>>
>>744721814
look man i think you got things mixed up. I prefer linux on chinkhelds too but i got my own reasons for that, and input lag isnt one of them. On modern android, coupled with options like runahead, you're gonna get better end to end latency than real hardware, thats what the facts are telling us. Dont know where you are getting this "overhead" thing from, Android doesn't really have this mysterious "overhead" you're talking about, at least not on modern devices. I'm not sure where that idea comes from.

Maybe you're thinking of the forced VSync behavior that some non-gaming apps use, which can add a couple of frames of latency. But that's a property of the rendering pipeline, not Android itself.
>>
>>744722176
the facts are right in front of you, why can't you explain why its 12 whole frames compared to a regular x86 platform running retroarch with runahead?
keep in mind that this wasnt even a professional test, usually with these amateur tests you get results in way smaller ranges, and yet its still 12.
here's similarly conducted tests.

>>
>>744723229
For future reference, all Linux/Android game performance depends on your chipset, DXVK version, and Vulkan driver. Gamehub & Gamenative use the same DXVK, the rest is up to you.
>>
>>744708914
because unlike you, i leave my house
>>
>>744719737
Almost every PS2 and Gamecube game works fine with widescreen patches, and you also gain a better aspect ratio for Wii and PSP if you care about those. Not that there's anything wrong with playing GC and PS2 games in 4:3 (most people did).
>>
>>744723249
What difference does it make, really?
>>
>>744722970
Dude you really need to stop with making comparisons with "frames" and start talking in miliseconds

https://youtu.be/_qys9sdzJKI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw0hbW-05k0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usQQ42egzus&t=1627s
>at 24:31 you can see him recording the screen at 240fps

Therefore these cant be directly compared at all, if you measure end to end latency in milliseconds you'll see that I'm right. Also 12 frames at 240fps is about 49ms fyi
>>

I wish I didn't :(

The switch to 16:9 as a standard aligned almost perfectly with the downfall of gaming. At the same time 16:9 became standard, we started getting "games as art" faggots popping up. This was a direct pipeline to the troonification of video games as we know them today.

I use it on RP5. Performance is generally worse, but frametimes feel better. Heard some games actually run better, but none of what I tried. Helps that you can throw any ARM version of Proton you want at it. Fan is constantly ramping up while using Steam, but while it's annoying at first it's safer with how hot this thing gets under FEX.
>>
>>744713081
I've never been crazy about SP accuracy, I actually think it being thinner would hinder ergonomics. Hear the buttons improved from the 35 and it's the same as the 34, but I'm not in a hurry to try. Only real upgrade for me would be the screen, as the 35's is ass.
