Genuine question.
When it comes to grand strategy/4x games how are enjoyers of this genre able to easily dump 2k+ hours into these games like its nothing?
My main qualm i have with these games is the ai is atrocious and this is true for all 4x games across the board.
Once you understand the complex rules of the game theres not even a hint of a challenge, after early game it just poops out.
Not only that but it plays in the same typical way and isn't dynamic ect. Mp enjoyers make up like 0.1% of the population to.
So what's there to keep players reeled into these games? Does it take a vivid imagination? A strong rp personality? Autism? What?

Being unemployed and wanting to escape reality

Well this thread ended quickly. What do we discuss now?

It satisfies a certain autistic fascination that no other genre quite even addresses
>>

Can you elaborate?

No
>>
>play ck3
>its pretty cool at first, but than you exhaust all dialgoue/event options
>gets stale very quickly
Hate to say it chatbot llms have more variance than this shit.

Yes. Lots of autism, for sure. Just look at Hoi4 mods
>What if X won WW1/2
>Modern politics
>Fallout
>MLP

>play united states in hoi4
>expecting a thrilling engaging battle from the axis powers
>Ai cant even mange troops or it army correctly isn't even aggresive
Hoi4 is all window dressing. It sounds cool to play at first, but you really aren't engaging with anything

Yea but thats all the games in this genre not just hoi4. Atleast hoi4 gives you a bunch of mechanics to keep you entertained ck3 is the true windows dressing game, its just dialgoue bubbles lol.

Nigger if you want a more engaging game your going to have to start dabbling with mods.
Try vox populi with civ 4

This is true of most strategy games, but Hoi4 is really particularly bad. That’s why the latest updates are loading it up more and more with random mechanics, while modders are just using it for worldbuilding and visual novels. Autism. Seriously, the average Hoi4 mod is just wall after wall of text with gameplay reduced to a minimum. I like it

my dad used to play a civ game but he would basically immediately fall asleep, maybe they're all like that
>>

Are there any games that kinda are close to not having this problem? Games with more variance and unpredictable behavior and ai nations/factions that actually give the player a challenge?
>>
>>744709881
I can't remember anything like that. “AI sucks” is a pretty common complaint these days but it's literally always been that way. “Difficulty” is just how blatantly AI cheats, play multiplayer if you want a real opponent.

My little stupid theory is the peope that play this genre of games, play them because their to tired after work, wageslaving for sheckelstein to play an actual game, so they default to these games that dont require much if any attention and they can kinda just fuck around until they pass out or lose interest. Or they're just old like your dad.
I knew a guy's dad who would play aoe2 and spend like 3 hours in sp making his base pretty on the lowest difficulty. If someone made me do that id kill myself of boredom but to each is their own.

Ye but mp is exceptionally unbalanced with meta tactics and gross.
Its not a matter of git gud since I play fighting games and rts its the games are designed from the ground up not to be play competitively.
You can win in the first few minutes in alot od these games based on your spawn and faction.
>>

That's why the AI is never smart in these games, the games would be unplayable. Imagine the most sweaty player who does everything with the precision of a machine.

Kek I remember seeing this mod on tww3 that drastically improved the ai, and some lords would end up with so much hp by mid game it would take the played a literal hour of draw kiting them to kill them.
Like you said when certain factions or country's play even remotely close to optimal or decent, the games unbalance becomes on full display.

Galactic Civilizations 2 solved the 4x question decades ago but it was never replicated in any other game I know of
