So, what did I think of it?

It's shit and pretentious as fuck

The Looker is the better game of the two
>>
WITNESS ME
>>
>>744709836
The Witness to a huge flop of the Odor of the Stinking Fart
>>
You're obligated to play The Looker if you haven't already
>>
>>744709836
You witnessed the witness who witnessed... the game.
>>
>>744709836
I liked it a lot. The quotes were cool.
>>
I dont know because I'm not willing to pay $40 for it but I will say I've been watching lots of Jonanthan Bliw interviews and streams lately and he is based.
>>
>>744710584
just pirate it then?
>>
>>744710348
What makes a game pretentious?
>>
>>744709836
One of the few games that really make me feel like I'm there, a deep sense of immersion and engagement that's hard to come by.
>>
I didn't like it.

The Looker was good though.
>>
>>744710791
creating pretense of being something it's not
obfuscation is the favorite tool in the hack's arsenal, because being vague leaves space for morons to go "oh well it's ART of course it's difficult to grasp and subject to reinterpretation" while the author can cry wolf over how nobody understands his genius
well you know what? if you are not putting in any effort into being understood, if your work is so obtuse nobody can agree on anything, then maybe you are shit at making ART and actually engaging with humanity
which is just true cause jblow is an autistic tech guy and not a melancholic artfag, dunno why he insists on any level of writing and voiceover instead of mechanics
>>
Easily one of the best puzzle games ever made and it's in my 3x3. Anyone saying otherwise straight up isn't even a person, just a crude immitation of one. More like soulless hylic golem if anything. Anyone with the ability to use their eyes and mind will immediately recognize it for the genius that it is. I am deeply looking forward to his new game. Braid sucked though.

The map of The Witness alone is art.
>>
>>744709836
I've forgotten about it, all I remember is some of the puzzles were quite obtuse.
>>
>>744710348
>>744710791
I was enjoying the game. But after you solved that meta puzzle and the game just played this preaching monologue I turned off the game and never went back.
>>
>>744714562
That doesn't happen. At no point do any voice clips "just play", it's always activated by you, via those little things you can find across the island.
>>
>>744714632
Well, whatever. After that lady read the 5 minute long quote from Russell Schweickart, I dipped out after 3-ish minutes and never went back to the game.
>>
>>744714953
Then you missed out on a great puzzle game, due to being overly sensitive over something entirely avoidable.
>>
>>744709836
the parody is 100 times better than this pretentious fart
>>
>>744709836
You dont know. So you made another thread after this one.
>>
>>744715085
It's amazing how the /v/tard's psyche collapses into enragement at the mere pretense of thoughtfulness. The Looker was pretty good, though, and it's a shame that Blow is too proud and petty to appreciate a good parody.
>>
>>744710791
The audio recording things were confusing which I didn't like, so it's pretentious.
>>
It's good. One of the few games I bothered playing a second time (a couple of years later). I will play it again at some point.

You of course thought it was a masterful non-verbal exploration of perspective and perception through delightful discoveries and epiphanies

I found the puzzles do be really boring. They are created that even the last 89iq midwit could solve them.

>>
>>744719481
That's your point of view and everyone's got one. That's what The Witness is all about. :-)
>>
>>744719481
No, it's just a really good puzzle game. Although it's going to soon be outside of the past decade. But another great puzzle game is about to take its place.
>>
>>744715945
I think the game is really tough. One of the few puzzles games I haven't managed to finish without looking up solutions. Games like Talos Principle, that 3D block game from Zachtronics and Baba Is You were way easier.
>>
>>744710584
He is very based and I loved a recent tweet where he said the prevalence of gay shit in media is largely a depopulation agenda however he does have that irksome quality a lot of hyper autistic programmers have where they get unnecessarily angry at people using high level languages, They really do think everyone can just invent apple pie from scratch.
>>
>>744719832
Baba is You is not easier than The Witness. I'm not saying as a hater, I'm just being serious.
>>
Who keeps making these threads? Jon Blow, is it you? Why do you keep dragging yourself back here to get ritualistically humiliated by anons posting "there ain't no point to the game" and "inferior copy of the Looker"? Just finish your expensive and over-engineered sokuban already
>>
Which game should I get, The Witness, Obduction or Talos Principle?
>>
>>744720401
Buy Talos Principle + Road To Gehenna when it's on sale and pirate the witness

nice hopefully it's in october or earlier
>>
Looks nice
It's no different than every other obtuse story puzzle game so to say it's any more pretentious than like Talos Principle or even something like QUBE is dumb
>>
>>744723910
The Witness doesn't have a story, nor is it obtuse.

then what is this?
>>
>>744724063
A single cutscene in a secret ending doesn't constitute a story.

The live action cutscenes are clearly the real ending

>>
>>744709836
I've already been spoiled on its gameplay and secrets, should I bother playing it?
>>
>>744724505
Yes, that's how I experienced the game.
>>
If you don't like The Witness, you don't like puzzles.
The game offers puzzles with simple rules, but what sets it apart is that it doesn't spell out the rules for you. You have to figure them out through trial and error with easier versions of the puzzles.
Then the puzzles get progressively more complex, and eventually, different rules are combined.
It's simple and elegant, and it's a lot of fun for anyone who really likes puzzles.
Finally, there's a second layer of puzzles involving the environment.
It's a very solid game, and I don't believe that anyone with an IQ above 95 who has even a passing interest in puzzles could truly hate the game, unless it's due to some kind of unbalanced, feminine emotional reaction, which is quite common these days when all men are either faggots or closeted faggots.
>>
>>744715036
Yeah that's most people on earth. You can tell by how worthless as human beings they are to get offended at all in the first place.
>>
>>744724961
road to gehenna is better
>>
>>744709836
bag of piss
>>
>>744709836
I've never finished it because some of the puzzles are way too hard for me. But I go back to it every few years because I like figuring out the rules and enjoy the exploration. The game is very beautiful
>>
>>744709836
I'm officially stuck in my 2nd playthrough (trying to get close to 100%):
>Can't solve the soundproofed room
>Can't solve the boat puzzle
>Can't work out how to activate the panel in the second to last room
>Can't work out how to open the wooden doors to get into the other parts of the mountain
>Can't find the 6th diagram for playing video (assuming 5th is in the boat)
>Can't work out how to get onto the bridge above the video player room
>Can't work out what the purple tetris puzzle does after solving
>>
After completing enough of the areas and opening up the section at the top of the mountain I thought to myself "I've had enough" and just never went back. Doing essentially the same type of puzzle for 4+ hours was enough for me.

I played a more recent environmental puzzle game called Islands of Insight recently... and the devs for that game dropped it like hot coals, but it's a complete offline game now. It had a lot more puzzle variety which I enjoyed considerably more.
>>
>>744710791
the product shows the developers' failure to present themes in a competent manner.
