14 years later, this is still THE best roguelike on the marketThe setting and the atmosphere is unlike anything else. The gameplay isn't actionslop spamfest but superior strategy. No cringe meta progression, just you getting better at the game.

roguelite*sorry, made a typo
>>744717956>setting and the atmosphereMost generic sci fi ever, lore is basically crumbs between the lines.>but superior strategyClickslop rng. Strategy secondary, luck primary.>No cringe meta progressionYou litterally have to unlock ships to have a chance of doing something different.
>>744718097nobody plays rogue lites/likes for the story, lore is just there to make you press onwards and nothing else>clickslopkek>You litterally have to unlock ships to have a chance of doing something different.okay but you can still win on a fresh save, that's all that matters
>>744717956>Only one that is some how okish, but still shit, like all roguelikes
>>744718185He\you pointed out the "atmosphere and setting" which are non-existant in the game. I see bullshit, i point it out.>okay but you can still win on a fresh save, that's all that mattersYeah you have like 2 strategies and if you don't pull it out by the second sector you basically have to restart or just wasting time for some points.
>>744718067For me, it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evPoc7tk1OQEvery single time shit is getting real, this is the song that is playing
>>744717956If you think about it real life is a roguelike.
>>744717956It's unfinished pre-alpha trash with very little to do, very little variety in events and ships and races. Extremely shallow and most ships don't seem to be tested at all. Most of the art looks like placeholder art. They just shit out an unfinished game, got paid, milked DLC and fucked off.The core game is solid but it's an unfinished game. The gameplay is too simplistic too. It's always about trying to get through shields and keeping the shields low so you can hit the weapons leaving the enemy ship defenseless as you bombard them. There are a few other strategies but this is what you will do 90% of the time.FTL would have been a top tier flash game. As an actual video game you are supposed to pay money for, it sucks.

>>744717956I'm surprised it has over one hour of soundtracksIt's decent but I wouldn't call it great, a lot of it is RNG management and beelining for the good stuff like cloaking and shields
>>744718682>wanting finished games is le badmind broken early access troon
>>744718734I'm sure crimson desert is a fully released game, right? :^)
>>744718756Never heard of crimson desert. Kill yourself.

>>744717956>rtwp>roguelikeCan't be based without turn-based.Can't be roguelike without the rogue.
>>744718756Crimson Desert is good desu
>>744717956I don't really like it.
I do find it baffling that there is only one knock off of this. I love this game to death but there is so much more you can do with the idea. Void war was a step in the right direction but cmon man, give this shit a fucking budget already.
>>744717956fine game but clicky as hell
Fantastic game but I just grabbed a save online with all the ships unlocked, trying to do specific tasks or runs with ships that dont really jell with me is too much of a hastle. Into The Breech has a much better system where you earn coins and unlock specific teams you want, I onlocked everything on my own there (except that bug team which costs way too much).
>>744718924The magic stuff is unsufferable in that game, it's op or completely useless, nothing in the middle.
>>744718924Contrary to ftl at lest in void war assault the other ship is basically the best strategy but you need rng from your side, without big hitters or weapons you are screwed really early. Also i don't think you can beat the not eldar ship or the normal ending ship without an assault.
>>744718924i think its because you could only really just make it more star trek?thats what i would do
>>744719348This. This would be really cool because you could put a shitton of variety between races and ships and weapon systems. You need a void war not star trek spinoff.Even if i think it's easier to get rights for star trek than warhammer today lmao.(Also only original sounds)
>look at all these guns and stats!>yeah you can make so many builds but if you want to win you have to build exactly the same every time though
>>744717956>Makes FTL>Makes Into The Breach>Stops making gamesWtf
>>744719494Into the breach was SO MUCH better than ftl as design, gameplay, rogue elements and general vibe. The fact they are still remembered mostly for ftl just pisses me off.
i think the final boss in the base game is total crap game designyou literally just have to cloak cheese or you wont win
the fast regenerating shields are shit design
>>744719565>Emp at highest>Laser (the one that doesnt hit shield) at top level and all other guns to lvl 4>CloakThose are the only way you can win. Unless you have a buttload of luck and you get 4 centurions (or whatever they are called the big guy that did a shitton of melee and insta destroy systems in rooms).
for me it's pic related
>>744719348>you could only really just make it more star trekI think that one big mod for FTL is essentially just that.
>>744719494One of the devs trooned out
>>744720740Replace em’ with Lanius and you’ve got yourself a proper wrecking crew
>>744717956ENTER
I had my fun with FTL but its overrated. I'm not against rng, but making decisions a coinflip of whether the game fucks you over is ass. The devs assessment over input and output randomness is just plain wrong. FTL doesn't offer you good event decisions, if there is a 50% chance to loose a crewmate, then the decision is always bad but you can't afford to deny all options.Abusing hacking is getting boring fast. It's too easy to fuck up and being unable to recover>>744720740isn't the final boss completely immune against this past the first stage
I’ve beaten FTL many times on all difficulties, unlocked all the ships. Just started playing multiverse. The flagships third stage is making me feel dumb. It quickly pounds my hull to death. What am I doing wrong?
Why isn't there Workshop support yet
>>744723602yes. the rest of the game is fun though
>sit down>think about how i can make ftl better>first thing i think about is simply cutting moving crew aroundam i retarded
>>744718097>>744718287>"atmosphere and setting" which are non-existant in the game.I understand trying to argue there "generic" or whatever, but saying they don't even exist? I don't believe you're a genuine poster.
>>744717956A game like FTL needs some level of thematic hook to make up for the lack of exploration. Interesting dialogue, interesting ship designs, anything. FTL is a very uninteresting game.
The rng isn't so bad, it's the constant pausing that you're obligated to do in order to be efficient that I have a problem with
>>744717956don't forget about the amazing ost
>>744719494>>744719550Breach was worse in both gameplay and setting. I thought it was going for a Muv-Luv thing, but it was so boring.
People say RTWP is dead, but I think it just needs novel approaches like this.
wasn't picrel just an upgrade across nearly every mechanic?
>>744717956I mean there is meta progression in that every ship needs to be unlocked, but it is a really fun game either way.
>>744731585The entire grand strategy genre proves RTwP is thriving.
>>744719494I played Into the Breach at launch, did two runs and then quit. I hated the other teams you could choose, they had horrible gimmicks that only made the game less playable.
>>744718924What about a friendslop ftl game where you and your friends are the ones manning the systems.
>>744732263@grok code this for me in rust
i like it but it's one of the most luckslop games out there>inb4 people with 50+ win streaksyes they manipulate the game with spreadsheet and data autism, it doesn't count
>>744732263never speak again
>>744731585dustfront looks good
>>744732263It's not in space, but there is Barotrauma and it's great.
>>744717956I could only play like 10 runs before I got tired. Runs take way too long for how reliant they are on luckshitting your way into cloaking. And winning a bad run through sheer skill is pretty much impossible. I love the idea of FTL but when it comes to actually playing it - fuck that.
absolutely abhorrent game. what the fuck is there to like about this piece of shit even? completely luck-based gameplay, no decisions to be made, repetitive music, awful artstyle
>>744732263this is lovers in a dangerous spacetime (obv much easier)
>>744718924Off the top of my head there was trigon, shortest trip to earth, crying suns and void war. I think there was an anon made game that i forgot the name of as well. Sorry anon.
multiverses is peak, you should play it if you haven't
>>744738195>FTL: Multiverse is a massive overhaul mod for the game FTL: Faster Than Light. It adds nearly 300 new playable ships, over 500 new enemy vessels, over 200 new weapons and drones, and over 30 brand new sectors to explore!Sounds like quantity slop
>>744731695In some ways yes, if you play it after multiverses then you will be disappointed. I don't like Void War as much since the magic system is so easy to break combat down to spamming cooldowns at random rooms.>>744738279in some ways yes but in others no, it has some events locked behind doing certain quest chains and such. it has multiple endings but most you won't get in a normal run unless you are very lucky or are in the end game parts
>>744734289Win rate for top players is practically 100%. You absolutely can force your way to victory.
>>744723771Gotta disable its weapons first. Either have a hard light bypass and move some people in to board, or cloak and get some missiles to kill his missiles. You can survive the power surge if you have 3 shield layers. Pro-tip: crew kill the flagship if you can. The automated systems will take over, but it'll be much easier to board and take out their systems. Causing breaches will also prevent the automated systems from repairing.
>>744734289on easy?
>>744734289>luckshitting your way into cloakingthat's just one strategy, I play on easy tho, perfect balance between trying crazy shit and an actual challenge
>>744719143The difference is that boarding is a lot more granular in Void WarFTL its either>boarding is my main win conditionor >i don't give a singular shit about boardingand>i can board this and crush the crew easilyor>i can't board this thing at all, if boarding is my strategy i'm fucked entirelyVoid war boarding has a lot more options, even if nothing else you can at least teleport your commander over to their pilot to lower their dodge chance, you have options for oxygenless ships, you have options to completely overwhelm with sheer numbers or spec entirely into small, elite squads or just popping in for half a second to detonate some equipmentBoarding is always something you want to have a little bit of instead of alongside your weapons rather than being all or nothing
Not a roguelike.
>>744717956>many builds are viable for most random encounters and events>most of them get ass-raped by the final bossreally disappointing, there's literally no good reason that killing all the crew members makes the fight a billion times harder other than "uh we accidentally made boarding too good" why wouldn't the flagship just use the super drones right away? so dumb
>>744717956It's biggest flaw is that there's no mobile port. Come on, devs! Let me play at work!
>>744723771just get stealth
>>744734289>And winning a bad run through sheer skill is pretty much impossibleThere are guys who have winstreaks hundreds deep, its entirely possible its just unfun as fuck and requires minmaxing like a motherfucker for hacking+defenses
>>744738952To be honest as indie rouge likes have expanded I look back on the rebel flagship as not that bad. It’s a bullshit challenge you have to overcome, but you know you need to prepare for it adequately. To make a comparison to another highly popular but wildly different rougelike, balatro, the ante 8 boss blind is random but one of them specifically (violet vessel) is so much harder than the others that you either just accept you will 100% lose to it, or you take already winning runs and make contingencies on “what if it’s violet vessel though”. This creates so much homogenization in gameplay. With the rebel flagship, even though you have runs you know are functionally pretty dead, you do have some chance, and you always know to have some contingencies even on “mid” runs. Basically the short of if it is, because it’s the same fuck you challenge there’s always a tension and relief. In a game poem balatro sometimes you go through a lot of effort just to future proof your run against violet vessel but the effort was wasted because you just shit on an easy boss instead. Like imagine in FTL if 80% of the time the rebel flagship had only one phase AND you could kill the crew. Sure you would have more options, and do a full boarding setup. But you would still need to prepare for that 20% on any decent run. Then feel like it was a waste when it doesn’t happen. No, I’d rather the final challenge be hard every time
>>744719550it was worse in every conceivable metric, boring easy ass chess puzzle
>>744738279As previous reply said half the content is easter eggs like the vanilla crystal sectorThe other half of the content is basically turning the B/C variants of vanilla ships into new factions of the races with their own A/B/C ships, plus 2 new races which coincidentally have easy sectors that drop tons of stuff, probably because they have low combat statsIt doesn't feel like there's a fuckton of extra weapons/drones while playing, and I play with the Renegade Collection addon>>744723771If you can afford playing with 2/3 augment slots the whole game a magnetic payload can disable phase 3 multiverse flagship's standard weapon system
>>744739812how bad is violet vessel?
>>744718303Daring aren't we?
>>744738279I mean FTL just needs more quantity yes. They less you encounter the same thing twice in a short period, the better.
Honestly never even best it once but still rank it highly based off the merits of the soundtrack alone.
