Replaying the original DA trilogy again and my hate for nu-Bioware has been revitalised.

Such a promising series with honestly surprisingly great stories & lore just completely ruined because nu-Bioware is filled with incompetent retards and ultra-woke militants.
Like unironically ultra-woke; even the usual xitter leftists were cringing at the whole "I'm non-binary" or "Pulling a Bharv" nonsense to the point where many of them distanced themselves from it.

Especially Origins man, I think that's easily one of the most underrated CRPGs ever made. Comparing Veilguard to Origins is like comparing ratshit to pure gold. It's an actual travesty. And even if DA2 was dumbed down gameplay-wise, and Inquisition even moreso, especially with its questing structure, the story/lore was still captivating in both of those games to keep me playing till the end.

Also, Dragon Age thread, I guess.

what is bro yapping about
>>
Origins is good. Just good. Why is /v/ so insistent on calling it a great game or a masterpiece?
>>
>>744721967
not op but having playable origin stories for your MC, and making your choices/characters in your origin highly relevant to the main plot are arguably some of the greatest additions to RPGs
its extremely tragic how no other game has picked up on this (probably because it takes a lot of extra work which devs dont wanna do)
CDPR cockteased us that they were going to do something similar with CP2077 back in 2018 but then absolutely butchered it during release
>>
>>744721907
You're the reason why the gaming industry is the way it is today. I hope you know that, you petulant little zoomerfaggot.

>>744721967
I never said it was greatest game of all time. I just said it was severely underrated, which it is btw, unironically evident from the way you're underrating it right now.

>>744722513
Absolutely. It also has some of the deepest dialogue paths in all of CRPGs, rivaled only by BG3 which came nearly 20 years later.
>>
>>744721967
even when it was released it was just okay, like all of Bioware's games the game itself was just serviceable with one or two things that made it stand out but never something important enough to make it a real classic
their main claim to fame is spearheading the notion of the moral choice system and story decisions with lasting consequences in the normalfagsphere
it doesn't matter that the moral choice systems were always completely binary or that the story decisions rarely had any meaningful overall impact, quite nearly none at all in ME's case, it was the image they cultivated of themselves through their marketing in the mind of the casualfag
Origins was the first game that really resembled a CRPG that released on consoles and appeared accessible to your average codbabby so it did gangbusters as a game that boosted your "gamer cred"
a ball and gun gamer would be amazed by its mechanics and story while anyone who had played any sort of RPG before would find it very run of the mill
overall a similar situation as Skyrim's cultural zeitgeist though with writing and worldbuilding that was decent with some interesting bits instead of completely uninspired garbage (for the first game anyway)

what you're seeing is the effect of yesteryear's casualfags all being able to post here at nearly any time of their day thanks to smartphones so there's plenty of upper middle tier games being treated like holy grails because the standard of quality for large vidya releases today is so fucking awful
the irony that the industry is so shit now is a consequence of their purchasing habits is lost on them
>>
>>744721967
I like Origins but compared to Dragon Age 2, Inquisition and Trannyguard it's a goddamn masterpiece.
I've even warmed up to Dragon Age 2 a bit, it's quality is a step down from Origins but it is also leagues better than Inquisition and Trannyguard.
>>
>>744721852
in a better world Dragon Age would have been the series BioWare put the most effort into and Mass Effect would have been the second son (Mass Effect ends up better for it)
>>
DA2 was so tedious towards the end/DLC, especially on nightmare, a gang of assassin bandits would materialise on top of you while you do 6 millionth lap around kirkwall and one tap your mage
Not to mention the same 1 warehouse/cave layout, i dont have any interest in replaying that game
On the other hand DAI is underrated, if you can get over the hinterlands slog, it can be quite fun, especially when you hit higher levels and get talent synergies, tho i still miss the more tactical DAO combat where you have way more spells and control over companions AI
>>
>>744721852
Which of these games are worth playing? I always kinda wanted to play them but never got around to them
>>
>>744724594
DAO definitely. If the story/lore interests you then get 2 and Inquisition as well.

It's on sale on Steam right now too. I promise you won't regret getting Origins for $5
>>
>>744724980
>I promise you won't regret getting Origins for $5
Cool, I'll get it
>>
>>744724594
dragon age origins is the best rpg ever made. Once you play it you'll laugh at how people are so starved nowadays that they praise a 7/10 like BG3

>$5
you lied, but I'm still getting it
>>744725092
It's that good? Holy shit
>>
>>744725161
>it's that good?
i'm assuming you're a zoomie because anyone that's been around long enough already knows this. The combat system might filter you a little bit but just stick with it. The writing/dialogue should keep you interested regardless. It blows any rpg writing written in the past 2 decades out of the water
>>
>>744721967
Origins is unironically better and BTFOs any of your so called "classic" isometric CRPGs. I was shocked to find them so mediocre, especially after anons here, even a decade ago, calling Origins just "good". Origins is fucking excellent with tons of choices, far more than any of those older games. It is itself a true classic at this point.
>>
>>744725283
I never really played RPGs, this series was one of those that I have heard about and thought that it looked interesting but never bothered trying it. Shit I remember seeing the physical edition of Origins in stores and buying whatever was next to it (probably ass creed 1 or 2)
>>
>>744721852
When Bioware made DA II and Inquisition it had already gone to shit thanks to EA, everyone here made fun of those two games back in the day for being sjw games, we are not doing revisionism about Bioware now.
>>
>>744725734
or maybe veilguard was just so egregious in all its woke messaging that it makes all the early 2010s proto-woke games like DA2/I more palatable in comparison
>>
>>744721852
I wonder if playing Dragon Age 2 today would make it look better because of how bad modern games are.
>>
>>744726471
Dude even Inquisition is serviceably good now because of the current state of modern vidya. Thats just how fucking far this industry has fallen.
>>
>>744727571
honestly I like Trespasser a lot more than the base game
>>
>>744721852
no one cares
>>
>>744721852
Been probably over a decade since I last played Origins and I never played DAII nor Inquisition. Perhaps it's time.
>>
>>744721852
>>744721967
Dunno...I've played all of the big time WRPGs. Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate, vtmb, all the Fallout games including 1 and 2, all Elder Scrolls, all Witcher games, Mount and Blade. Even the shitty ass indie games like Underrail that /v/ likes to shill . There are maybe only one or two games Id put over DAO honestly. New Vegas and maybe Knights of the Old Republic depending on my mood
>>
>>744727839
If you're going to play Inquisitor, it's require to install a mod that allow you to skip all the waiting quest bullshit.

Replayed Origins not so long ago, it's still fantastic.
Turned on DA2 later, turned it off like 5 hours later, just couldn't be bothered to replay it. Might give it another shot, but I just didn't find it as engaging.

>>744725161
>>744725482
Idk if ur still here, but certain mods (like Qwinn's fixes or Dain's fixes) are absolutely mandatory because the PC version of the game is incredibly buggy and bioware hasnt cared to fix them for over 15 years now.

Also dont forget to get the LAA launcher otherwise your game will crash after 2 hours because of memory leak: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233222451

>>744730215
Thanks man, I was about to start it when I saw this so you saved me
>>
>>744724594
Origins is good, 2 is rushed shit, Inquisition is polished shit, Veilguard is pozzed shit.
So the first one.
>>
>>744721967
To me, it felt like that the peak of RTwP and then it died just as it was getting good. I wish we could get another game with Origins combat.
>>
>>744725394
Origins combat and story are great, but encounters are where it drops the balls. Most of the encounter zones are too big and filled with way too many copy/paste trash mobs.

Each new dragon age has tried to court a new audience
>da2 wanted the dudebro audience and only ended up pissing off hardcore players
>inquisition tried appealing to mmo players but ended up appealing to no one instead
>veilguard came out amidst the height of the culture war and was geared towards the pronoun activist people not realizing that type doesn't play vidya, much less buy them
I'm 100% confident if they never radically shifted their demographic focus, the games would be better and sell better too. EA being the architect of their own downfall, yet again.
>>
>>744733313
There was no real hope for the series no matter what because Bioware was collapsing as a studio regardless. Even if they had tried to recreate DA:O mechanics, you still would have ended up dogshit writing, laughable cutscene animations, lame companions, and uninspired world design. David Gaider started as a decent-to-good writer, but he fell of fucking hard as he hit middle aged.
>>
>>744721907
and God called the thing a nigger
>>
>>744733747
>There was no real hope for the series no matter what because Bioware was collapsing as a studio regardless
I can't remember where I saw it, but I recall hearing about how the ME team was disdainful towards the DA team, which led to more and more resources being pulled away from them and tighter deadlines. Lying bitches were probably tattling to EA higher-ups to get their projects shitcanned
>>
DAO with mods is pure enjoyment. It's what a great game used to be all about.
Awakening was also fantastic even if the ending felt rushed.

DA2 wasn't great but dear lord when you compare it to TrannyGuard and look at the people who worked on both you can see the lack of talent or passion
>>
>>744734518
DA2 uses the same fucking cave dungeon like 6 times. Its one of the laziest things I have ever seen in an AAA game.
>>
>>744721907
stop killing sincere appreciation for stuff with your retarded nigger babble
>>
>>744721852
Only DAO is worth a very occasional replay. Everything else is tainted one way or another. Which bodes ill to whatever the fuck you're saying OP.

If a video game IP's only good entry was its first, what's the point of continuing it?

I'm actually glad EA decided to foreseeably scrap all work on any future DA game.

Just let this franchise rest for good.

stopped reading here holy shit you're a fucking retard. bg3 of its time is "underrated" get the fuck outta here

Always bothered me how quickly this absolutely huge army starts walking away from one little hand gesture
>>
Dragon Age:Origins should've had been a one-shot game only.
>>
I've heard that Origins is fucked on steam, is gog version better?
>>
>>744739847
Only difference is gog version is prepatched. Steam requires you to do it yourself
>>
>>744741575
By prepatched you mean that it has that 4gb exe? So I still need to install regular fixes?
>>
>>744742021
>By prepatched you mean that it has that 4gb exe?
Yes. If you want a perfect bug free experience, you get qwinn+dain fixes. Nothing else is required after that.
>>
>>744742458
Thanks man
>>
>>744738531
I don't remember, do we ever meet any deserters of the army? folks who actually want "wtf Loghain"?
