>cartridges are "too expensive" so we have to put everything on game key cards
>discs are "too expensive" so we have to discontinue them and only do digital releases
Meanwhile on DVDs, CDs and old games.. TWO DISCS and sometimes even THREE, FOUR, FIVE, or more. And sometimes there's even special release bonuses and extras.

Gaming is the largest entertainment medium in the world and we constantly make excuses for these infinitely large companies who want to screw us over.

Theres no disputing it, the corporate justification for the shedding of physical media is obviously not the real motive, you don't need to debate it anyone who tows that line is an actual hylic; obviously they want to increase sales by preventing a third party from reselling physical copies. It ALSO saves them on distribution but that isn't the driving motive. Ultimately btw the reason for all this is browns and blacks and women entering the hobby in large numbers in around the 2007-2012 timeframe.

I am not making excuses. There is no reason games can't be put on discs outside of memory space issues- which can be worked around.
Clearly there is profit motivation behind elminating physical media. I also agree that most physical media has DRM protection so you can sometimes lose rights to its access as well. This could all be elminiated and be based on a trust system, but there are flaws with that too. Its a big mess. I buy physical discs when I can. I won't be buying a PS6 mostly due to this and pressumedly its high price.

Hollywood movies still get physical discs pretty much exclusively for a fringe 60+ demographic who are no longer willing to upgrade or replace anything. There's also absolutely zero demand for them long-term, you can go online and get everything from any series in a single lot for five dollars maximum shipping inclusive. When those rental kiosks went out of business, they just let people "steal" the inventory to reduce disposal costs.

Why did Blu-Ray never completely replace DVD like DVD replaced VHS?

Because for most people, DVD quality is good enough
So for them, BDs are just more expensive for the same experience
