I have built the life the kid in me always wanted but now I don't get any enjoyment out of video games anymore sadly.

>>744730989Retro Gaming Saved my Favorite Hobby.I want to offer a genuine apology to everyone here on /v/. For a long time, I dismissed many of you as pretentious contrarians who only gravitated toward retro or niche games to stand out. Looking back, that was unfair and incorrect. Recently, I’ve been trying to understand why gaming has felt so uninspiring to me. That led me to study game design more seriously and revisit older titles. In doing so, I finally saw the issues you’ve been pointing out. Modern mainstream gaming often prioritizes retention over respect for the player’s time. It pads itself with unnecessary content, stretches out progression, and simplifies mechanics to appeal to the broadest audience possible. I used to argue against that idea, but I can admit now: the gameplay really has been watered down. And somewhere along the way, story became the centerpiece of most major releases, while gameplay, the core of what makes games games.. was pushed aside. Many titles feel more like interactive movies than actual gameplay‑driven experiences. So I want to acknowledge that you were right, and I was wrong
>>744731053This may be silly but remember that you can't wait to have motivation to do something, sometimes motivation follows after you start forcing yourself to do it.Also humans are silly, you may have everything you wanted but one thing, but that missing thing may be enough to prevent you from enjoying the rest, even if you know it is not that big of a deal if you had it.
>>744730989Play retro and indie games that remind you of youth.
How much of your leisure time is soent with vidya? Do you have anything else to balance it with? Are you only playing games when you really want to, or is it the ”default action” you always go for when you have time to?
>>744730989Just get another hobby. When I'm tired of vidya, I just spend time doing something else I'm invested in. At some point I get tired of that other thing, and go back to playing more video games. It's a cycle that keeps repeating itself.

Literally just turn a game on and play it without having it be tied to your backlog, without grinding stats or gear or whatever, without going for achievements or even full completion. The exact moment you stop having fun, turn it off and do something else. Make sure to take a 15 minute break at least once every two hours and drink lots of water. That's it. That's genuinely all you have to do. Stop making it difficult. If you don't know how to have fun then just be alone with your thoughts for all of five seconds to determine what you find enjoyable. It is not hard. You are an intelligent being with some amount of free will.
