There were enjoyable games during the 7th gen, but it was plagued by a lot of mediocre games, and overall it was the beginning of the decline of gaming. One of the worst parts of the 7th gen was that it's somewhat the "dark ages" of the Japanese vidya industry, when most developers left consoles for handhelds and mobileshit because they couldn't adapt to HD graphics and the sugoi power of the CELL. Although the increased interest in handhelds did produce more enjoyable handheld titles, it overall hurt the 7th gen. This “dark age” also led to things like digital-only releases in the west and other bullshit.

Let's not also forget that period when CRPGs completely died for a couple of years. Not to mention most of the smaller/medium sized studios disappearing and games made exclusively for PC declining. Multiplatform hell that hurt both console style and PC style experiences and merged them into some mutated beast with neither the good from either sides. Arthouse indie games were also a mistake.

Here are some overlooked games from the 7th gen:
>Natural Doctrine
A late 7th gen game with an interesting gameplay take on the SRPG genre that got overlooked because of its budget feel and at first glance obtuse combat system. Had a surprisingly neat multiplayer that let you use all units in the game.
>Lost Dimension
Somewhat similar gameplay to Valkyria Chronicles but with esper themes instead. The gameplay just felt overall enjoyable and the psychic abilities were translated well into the combat system.
>Rengoku 2
It's Dark Souls with robots before Dark Souls was even a thing. Lots of weapons, tools and a limb-based equipment/combat system.
>Folklore
Comfy Irish celtic theme and alright action RPG gameplay. Somewhat budget feel and being a very early 7th gen title made a lot of people forget about this one.
>Starhawk
Nothing super special - third person shooter with base building, but the way the space levels were designed to take advantage of all directions was neat.
