That's a good question actually. Ash zombies appear to be an earlier stage of Ash Ghoul without the strange appendage, and they evidently get around just fine without it. In general, the sixth house ash creatures all appear to be undead in some way.

The first 1~2 hours of Morrowind are full of moments where the game just kicks you square in the nuts. The guy on the bridge isn't even that bad, you can cheese him. But then he is immediately followed by the Dwemmer Puzzle Cube which has a 100% rate of making people feel like they're idiots.

Yours truly right here spent several hours dying and going back to that dungeon, turtling my way until the end despite being low level, and I couldn't find the stupid cube.

Its interesting to see how many people thought this was placed there for the player to use as a weapon when its nothing more than environmental story telling (Note to Hrisskar). Yeah, but Dagoth's ideal world can only come around if he's not stopped by the Nerevarine.
And part of the prophecy says that the Nerevarine shall be immune to all diseases, including the Blight.
So by infecting your character with Corpus (after taking the experimental cure from Dyvath Fyr, which suppress the symptoms), he allows them to fulfil the prophecy and the become the Nerevarine., since the Corpus makes you immune to all diseases.
If he never did that final fuck you, your character would have never be able to become the Nerevarine and Dagoth Ur plans would have succeeded.

For a long time I thought this guy spawned in as soon as you began the game, and you could kill him early to get corprus and skip almost all of Caius's portion of the main quest.
Then I recently found out the only reason that happened was because I had been playing tes3mp, which was pretty buggy and spawned in all scripted NPCs from the beginning.
>>
This sounds like creepypasta but I swear there is an npc bandit that spawns behind me when I enter some cave in each playthrough. Sometimes it's early in the playthrough, sometimes it's late. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out if it was some mod (even though I have very few) but never found anything. I also have a memory of looking up his name but it wasn't listed anywhere. I recently updated my mod list even things like patch for purists so we'll see how this playthrough will go.
>>
>>745027445
>skip almost all of Caius's portion of the main quest
I mean you can do that, bit not because of that. One of the greatest things Morrowind does in my opinion is that you can totally complete the main quest objective without any scripts being mandatory. If you brute force your way even wraithguard can be skipped.

Kek, this happens in Oblivion with the Spell Tomes DLC conjurer, who hunts you down no matter where you are just so that he can drop you a spell tome to pick up. Because everyone today is playing with the DLC on the moment you start the game, you know to expect him early on, but it would make for a fun jumpscare if he had more time variance on when he spawned.

You also probably could make a fun mod about some cursed artifact or something with persistent pursuing enemies etc.
>>
For me, it’s a fleeting memory of jumping through ash storms in some desolate area and finding a rather creepy Imperial style fort with skeletons on it.

I’ve never seen that place again, so I assume that it is from a mod, but confirming it is impossible because that memory is from 20 years ago and there’s no way to remember what mods I had back then. But I still wonder where exactly it was and if there’s any chance that it was vanilla content. And no, it was not the skeleton fort island added by the free official addon.

Earliest we can expect it is late 2027 and that depends on when they release Markarth. Since they're also updating Anvil and Markath might be delayed, I wouldn't count on it.
>>745037535
A bit of context: they finished many of the assets just before the release, so they didn't have time to use them. It's mostly a minor graphical change, but there will also be catacombs and the ruins of the old Anvil. It will essentially be a continuation of the main quest in the Kingdom of Anvil with the vampires and all that.

It was hilarious in my next game way overpreparing for him only for him to crumple. My big problem was that I was a skyrimbabby, so going into the game I figured buying gear was stupid and I'd just loot whatever I needed (which I could have done if I wasn't a heavy armor build). So I fought people wearing nothing but an iron spear and an iron breastplate and 40 spear skill, no magic and 2 health potions. If anyone was wondering what a retards first experience is like.

That's just not true. Morrowind quests (and mods) usually start out pretty simple but later develop into something interesting. Side quests are a mixed bag but there are a lot of them and they're usually really good in mods. To give you some context, the main quest in Beyond Skyrim Bruma is about helping the guards and it literally just 3 simple quests with nothing interesting happening.

Not really comparable. TR is basically an autistic archaeology project that's been iterating on the same province for 20 years and has a pretty strict style bible.

Beyond Skyrim is more like 6 different Skyrim mod teams wearing one trenchcoat. Some of the landscaping/architecture looks great, but the writing and implementation are very "large Skyrim mod". Bruma was fine as a walking simulator but nothing in it made me think they were secretly Bethesda 2.0.

Believe it or not, Beyond Skyrim technically has the exact same policy towards ESO as PTR does. That is, the lore of the game they're modding and other things that came before ESO take priority and they're not required to change their plans to fit ESO lore or take things from it. The difference is that their devs generally have a more positive attitude towards ESO than the PTR guys, so they reference it more often, and some projects like Argonia take a lot from it to the point you could argue it's primarily ESO-inspired, while Project Tamriel/Tamriel Rebuilt is developed by people who are a lot more vocal about how boring and bad they think ESO is and thus they have barely anything at all from it in their mod. I think literally the only major lore thing they got from ESO is the concept of the Reachmen conquering the Imperial City at one point.

You know, most of these theories basically exist just to try to justify the crap Bethesda pulled in Oblivion and Skyrim. Theories limited to Morrowind are more down-to-earth and, at most, focus on the fate of Nerevar and just how metaphysical Molag Bal's dick was when Vivec bit it off.

There is no soft spot. The original PC devs, who only ever released the Stirk demo, wanted Oblivion references. The current devs removed almost all of them and only grudgingly kept a few. The entire Anvil Mages Guild was redone to remove a plot based around Hannibal Traven before he became archmage.

It's a mix between the tutorial having you equipping the dagger and more crucially, >>745057902. Players are reluctant by default to spend any coin, the meme of "finishing the game with 99 Potions of Extreme Healing in case I needed some later" exists for a reason. Morrowind gives you money upfront on purpose so you can buy build-proper gear at Arrille's Tradehouse, but most people will rather they get their basic bitch starting weapon and armor from the first dungeon they visit, because not only was that the case in Oblivion and Skyrim... but being honest it was also the case in Arena and Daggerfall, where you could easily start the game semi-decently equipped just by exploring a bit the Imperial Dungeons and Privateer's Hold.
>>

I disagree. You've still got Aylied ruins being pretty much 1-to-1 visually with Oblivion, Anvil having the same architecture and vibe as oblivion, a master thief whose blatantly not-Gray Fox, etc.
Plus it goes beyond just Cyrodiil. Mainland Morrowind has such references.
>>
>>745089030
Players that started with the next TES installments are at a disadvantage because they think they are familiar with how TES games work when in reality they have been lobotomized.
Morrowind is actually pretty casual about the tabletop mechanics a Skyrim baby isn't even familiar with the concept of weapon proficiency.

They like Oblivion's Ayleid lore in spite of the fact it's from Oblivion. For them, it might as well be Kirkbride lore first. And it kinda is, since MK's Ayleid stuff is all written to take place in junglr.Cyrodiil and thus fits PGE1 era Cyrodiil perfectly.
>Anvil having the same architecture and vibe as oblivion
Absolutely fucking not. From a distance and at first glance sure when you look at the screenshots at the mod site sure, but once you're there at the ground level they're really not even close to being the same.

Which makes the most sense, because
A) too often people forget Kuhlmann was the other side of Kirkbride's coin and he co-developed the PGE for Redguard and assisted with the original idea for TES3 before it was put in the backburner during the late 90s.
B) Douglas Goodall was who wrote 70% of Morrowind's questlines including the Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild and the three Great Houses so if people like anything from them specifically, changes are it was a Goodall addition.
C) Howard was a known Kirkbride tard wrangler, in that he managed to get the best out of the man while still keeping the wackier shit away. Kirkbride without Todd goes full C0DA, Todd without Kirkbride turns Cyrodiil into LOTR lite.

>>745090598
I don't lie, there's just a clear difference between a thread where 350 of the 400 posts are barely disguised porn pics and webms, and a thread where people autistically debate over the Great War and the Markarth Incident while some retard in the background desperately posts some 25 mostly ignored pics in a likewise 400 posts thread.
>>
>>745090680
His point is that they use Oblivion's Ayleid stuff because in a vacuum it's cool and weird enough to fit in with TES 3 lore, partially because a lot of it was written by Kirkbride, not out of some tsundere love for the game of Oblivion as a whole

TR's entire Indoril backdrop is that the House got so thoroughly buckbroken by the the Armistice and House Hlaalu that their lords are all either dead or mindbroken to the point they're busy sulking and doing self-destructive shit, it makes sense for a guy who wants reform to show up and for everybody who doesn't to be too much of an old catatonic retard to do anything about it.

I mean in terms of influence. Indoril was the centre until their (based) mass suicide left them to be picked clean by the vultures that are the other houses (especially the eternal hlaalu).
Some within the house would naturally try to make some changes to reclaim their old glory. Ideally they would fail, though who can truly say when the person that ends up working through it is the Nerevarine and Hortator.

>Goblins, known as the Children of Muluk[2] or derogatorily called Gobs,[3] are primitive humanoids that have been found in virtually every part of Tamriel and even on islands off the coast of Akavir.[4] Goblins can often be found living in caves, ruins, and sewers in small clan-based societies. Goblins are fiercely territorial, and typically violent towards those not of their tribes or the more societally developed races in general. Many regard them as simply monsters or nuisances. Despite this Goblins are still an intelligent race, and are capable of living in peace with others and showing empathy.[5] They are the namesake of the Goblin-ken family, and as such are considered kin to Ogres, Gremlins, and sometimes even Orcs.

Vanilla is fine. You could get something like Patch for Purists to correct details you will barely notice like typos or incorrectly placed rocks here and there but whatever.
As far as things to know, it has the leveling system of Oblivion without the need to minmax because there is barely any enemy scaling. The early levels are the roughest and it will only get easier.
Carry light and invest in speed and athletics if you find the character's movement pace intolerable.

They will become legal citizens the second Bethesda creates another "humanoid" NPC/skeleton rig for them in the engine so can be properly interacted with (so never). It's the same reason ogres aren't in the same spot as orcs, even though lore-wise they're in exactly the same spot as orcs. Orcs fit their cookie cutter humanoid rig, goblins and ogres don't.

Astoudingly retarded post
Orcs are playable because Daggerfall, a sprite-based game, did the "Orcs are secretly civilized people who want recognition" plot, which in turn probably happened because every other fantasy setting had their Orcs be somewhat of a big deal instead of just random generic enemies as they were in Arena. They didn't come up with Gortwog and his ending thinking

>"you are ASTONISHINGLY RETARDED"
>doesn't even know the basic lore of what we're all talking about
You are so stupid that you can't even follow the most obvious reasoning that the devs have. Stop pretending to have played Daggerfall, Skyrim baby.

The orcs are just one of the several "beastfolk" races and they cohabitated as outsiders and brothers under Malacath. Both orcs and goblins are simply treated as "creatures" in Arena. In Daggerfall (where Goblins don't even appear, lying about playing a game lmao) they introduce the plotline of Orsinium but even in that game's systems they're still just creatures. Even Redguard, which only had Goblins and Ogres, didn't have them as proper NPCs.

Every iteration of Orsinium in the lore had orcs, ogres, goblins and gremlins cohabitating together peacefully. This is confirmed through numerous lore materials. They are all of a similar sentience and culture in order to achieve this. They were all considered equally "vile" by the Empire.

In the 3D FIRST PERSON ACTION RPG Morrowind, guess which of the beastfolk were promoted into becoming Empire citizens (and thus playable). It just so happens to be the race that is aesthetically the most humanoid out of the three. They aren't too tall like the ogres or too short like the goblins which would make them unable to fit into the gameplay system they designed. Goblins show up in Tribunal but only as simple enemies because they can't fit the animations to turn them into proper NPCs.

To avoid the problem of trying to make the 3D FIRST PERSON ACTION RPG accommodate giant and tiny races, the games now just treat them as brainless monsters. Orcs survived it because their skeleton fit the gameplay systems they created. If the other beastfolk races were to be made Empire citizens, they would have to be playable (to fit the NPC interactions and not be internally considered a "creature"). It's the SAME REASON only the "humanoid" Argonians/Khajit are playable, you fucking idiot.
>>
>>745141296
there are no non-humanoid argonians retard
>>
>>745141296
>but even in that game's systems they're still just creatures
And yet, the game's plot and lore clearly potrays them as people actively seeking better treatment
>Every iteration of Orsinium in the lore had orcs, ogres, goblins and gremlins cohabitating together peacefully. This is confirmed through numerous lore materials. They are all of a similar sentience and culture in order to achieve this.
Irrelevant. And as you said yourself, there weren't even any Goblins in Daggerfall lmao
The PGE was the first time the goblin-ken were said to have lived in Orsinium, and that referred specifically to the First and Second Era Orsiniums, not Gortwog's
>guess which of the beastfolk were promoted into becoming Empire citizens (and thus playable).
The one whose ascension to Imperial citizenship was already set up by a major plotline in the previous game
>They aren't too tall like the ogres or too short like the goblins which would make them unable to fit into the gameplay system they designed
Yeah, because as we all know, Bosmer and Altmer are unplayable in Morrowind due to their extreme heights, as are the beast races due to the need of giving them unique skeletons and animations
>Orcs survived it because their skeleton fit the gameplay systems they created
Or maybe, it's because that was already set up in the previous game
> If the other beastfolk races were to be made Empire citizens, they would have to be playable (to fit the NPC interactions and not be internally considered a "creature").
The fuck makes you think that a race having Imperial citizenship in lore means that Bethesda is bound by oath to make them playable? Do you think that 14/17 of the Khajiit subtypes and all but one of the Argonian races are not Imperial citizens or something?
>It's the SAME REASON only the "humanoid" Argonians/Khajit are playable
No, it's primarily because Bethesda wasn't gonna waste precious dev time in modeling 15 different cat people races and 6 different lizard people races
>>
>>745141296
Just to preempt the "but you can talk to some creatures in Morrowind" false argument. NPCs in Morrowind are just static entities in the static world of Morrowind. It is simply placing some event on them to open up a dialogue box. Still though, the only humanoids (confirmed with the calm humanoid spell) are the ones that fit the underlying engine rigging.

Oblivion onwards they have fully fledged schedules with animations like sitting down to eat, dialogue poses, sleeping, ect. That is absolutely incompatible with a race twice the size (or half the size) that doesn't remotely fit the rig they use for everything. Literally the reason you can talk to Dremora in Oblivion is because the copied over the rig. It doesn't take a coding genius to understand this, but apparently it does for this idiot.
>nah just give a giant the same drinking from a cup animation as everyone else it'll work

>>745141683
That's your big brained clapback. You just lied about playing Daggerfall. Go get ready for school.

>>745142228
Again, you ignore the most obvious thing. The goblins and ogres would need to fit the armor, weapons, combat rigging, casual animation, npc scheduling, architecture ect ect and ect. You ignore this because you are addicted to contrarianism. This is the most obvious shit in the world, especially considering their game engine is some famously patched together, jury-rigged nonsense to work with and you think that's not the reason they don't have more sentient "beastlike" races to interact with.

Orcs, ogres, goblins at one point all had similar intelligence/language/culture. This got wrote out or ignored after they made orcs playable because those races would be hard to implement as NPCs within the Empire and they never want to address that problem in their jury-rigged engine.
>>
>>745123810
Built for Imperial men
>>
>>745142704
Lmao you're the one addicted to contrarianism if you genuinely believe that the possibility of having to make Goblins and Ogres playable ever popped up in even a single Bethesda's employee's thoughts, let alone in enough of them to the point of affecting creative decisions

Likewise, you're the one ignoring the most obvious thing. Goblins and Ogres are not playable because they did not have their own dedicated storyline and ending in Daggerfall. They were "reduced" to enemy monsters because that's their traditional role in fantasy and there's no reason not to have them take those roles due to the previous thing, simple as

bethesda just risked it and jumped the shark with letting kirkbride live out some of his weirdness. it's honestly lightning in a bottle when it comes to a unique setting in such a major title, and unfortunately this approach couldn't catch on with the mainstream when the lotr series set a new standard for high fantasy vidya.
everybody wanted to see this faux-medieval setting akin to the rohirrim and gondor on screen with towering european styled castle walls and horse riding anglo saxons.
any deviation from this archetype was seen as too financially risky and thus oblivion's world design came to be a high fantasy europe instead of the weird mix of jungle, wetlands with east asian and roman architecture which it was established as in TES lore in previous titles

>>Summerset
Even without Kirkbride's silly "Where the Sum is Set" etymology you could easily picture it coming from the fact it's paradisiac summery island
>>Valenwood
The wood part is self-explanatory, "valen" is a mystery
>>High Rock
it's probably pretty rocky and has lots of mountains
>>

My only problem is why is their model so thin in game
Many bretons are supposed to be knights, but it never feels right with how scrawny they are.
>>
>>745166764
they're mutts
>>
>>745166764
Don't all NPCs share the one male and female model? Which is why every grandpa in Vvanderfell is fucking jacked like Caius.

There's actually two unique body models for Men and Mer respectively
One of the reason Morrowind is so SOVLful

So do you anons focus more on style or functionality when it comes to your character's look? For me, I'm fashion maxing.

it just does, anon
it doesn't need a reason... it'll just happen
though when it happened to me, I related it to the giant, GIANT amount of Warheads I'd had the day before
took me over a decade before I could have them again

I really hope the next SHOTN update doesn't take too long to come out. I really like the environment but I feel like there is too little to do. I want more dammit!

Just trapped this guy's soul. It'd be fun to enchant a Sixth House Warhammer with it and then use it to murder them all.

It took me a really long time to mod it to my liking without anything ruining it for me and since It's been almost 20 years since I first played Morrowind I wanted to dive into it and have it be as immersive and true to the original I could make it
My last long playthrough of it was over a decade ago and since then I've been fighting yellow triangles,my own incompetence and shitty mod lists

In case anyone's interested I'm using these:
Animation Compilation
Apel fire retexture
Better Bodies
Cozy Journal and Scroll Replacer ver. for OpenMW-52950-1-0-1716287123
Immersive HUD with map
Little Moon and Star
Loading Screens Diversified
Lower First Person Sneak Mode
morrowind-starter-pack (the openmw mod list, I installed it with a script)
Real Signposts
Skies IV
Weapon Sheathing

Why doesn't Fargoth simply kill Hrisskar by taunting him
>>
>>745180054
He's too honest and forthright to taunt. He's roleplaying his character.

I loved the cube part. The problem is that every other dungeon after that is dull.
