The first game is pretty slow, especially at the start, but I kinda love that about it. You spend a lot of time just traveling around the country, visiting new towns, helping people with smaller problems and slowly getting introduced to the world before the bigger story really starts kicking off. You also meet a ton of really memorable characters along the way, and the game gives you plenty of time to actually get attached to them.The battles are pretty fun too. It’s turn based, but everyone moves around the battlefield, so positioning, attack ranges and turn order actually matter. Every character is kinda a mix between a fighter and a mage. You’ve got normal skills that use HP, while magic can be used to damage enemies, heal, or buff your party, so pretty much everyone can do a bit of everything depending on how you build them. One of my favorite things is that basically every NPC gets new dialogue as the story moves forward, and a lot of them even have their own little ongoing stories. It makes the world feel really alive. Like you can talk to some completely random guy in a shop, come back a bit later and he’ll have new dialogue about whatever is going on. So yeah, I’d definitely recommend it. Just know that it really takes its time, especially early on.
