I ended up playing this game way more times than it deserved because a new friend or two would end up buying it after every sale. Its ok I guess. Shout outs to wizards and dwarfs whose unique exploration abilities open up secrets everyone benefits from instead of selfish rangers who just get arrow restocks.

Do not buy Aspyr games if you use UW. They never have ultra wide resolution, no game they worked on has it, none have received a patch for this and the issue is known to them since the shills always attack whoever points this out.
It's not about the black bars it's about text, icons and click-able gameplay elements being cutoff on screen. Try to open the world map or read anything in the codex of the soul reaver remasters just a couple of quick examples.

It's just being brought to modern platforms. I think on PC it was delisted at some point. Being able to play older games without having to own the old hardware is good. Asypr also made a statement that they will be making more remasters of old LOTR games so there's that.

The gameplay in War of the North is mid though, which is of equal importance to canon faithfulness. I can get perfect canon by reading the books, but for a game's existence to be justified it needs to be fun too.

The best Tolkien games are War of the Ring (PC), Two Towers/Return of the King (PS2), and The Third Age (PS2, has a shit ending but otherwise amazing).

Honorable mention to LOTR Conquest (deeply flawed and low-key lorerape, but some great ideas) and The Last Days of the Third Age mod for M&B Warband.
