It was genuinely one of my favorite games ever. In 2016. Then they bloated it with endless "final updates" that banked on the emotional terrorism of being the "last" one to milk every drop of engagement. As result, I am burned out, and I resent this game.
>>
>>745164893
It's better than it has ever been, shitter.
>>
>>745164893
I can understand criticizing it for being bloated or for being a wiki-game but the difference between 1.3 and 1.4 is not significant enough for it to somehow go from one of your favorite games ever to being a game you hate
>>
the calamity mod seems cool

Sorry to hear. It's still as good as ever for me. Just put in another 100 hour playthrough after trying out some new content mods. Ancients Awakened was the most recent, and ehhh I wouldn't recommend it too much. A little too milquetoast.

>>
>>745164680
I played it with some friends 5 or 6 years ago. It was cool. We beat all the bosses and I did everything you needed to do to get Zenith. I like when games have god-tier OP endgame stuff you can grind out just to definitely say you've conquered the game.

If heard people talk a lot about some "calamity" mod recently. I wonder what that's all about.
>>
>>745168140
The calamity mod is a humongous content mod that adds a ton of stuff to the game, but many people hate it for being a bloated mess with no cohesion to the base game.

Two lead devs for the calamity mod came out as degenerates from discord, and the whole mod has basically been put on indefinite hiatus because of them.

>>
>>745168381
So it's like an unofficial expansion developed by weirdos. I swear I've heard of this happening so many times before in other games too.
>>
>>745168990
Thankfully there are tons of mods that aren't developed by degenerates. So if you want a new experience, you can play with mods like Thorium or Redemption, which expand on the game's content with more areas and more bosses and more items. Also of note is the QOL mods that streamline mechanics. My favorite is magic storage.
>>
It's good, but I kinda think Necesse may have surpassed it in the genre.
>>
>>745167762
I really enjoyed it at first, and slowly grew less fond of it the deeper I got in to it. I was much more interested in exploration than big boss battles, and it seemed like the latter kept getting more emphasized. While I didn't object to the difficulty itself, it also seemed silly to me that the primary threat when facing eldritch abominations is that they would successfully run away.

Nobody can decide upon which alternative would be best. Some people want a candy theme, some want a robopunk dystopia, and then there was that guy who pitched an eyeball themed biome, and people laughed at him, so he went and made the Spooky mod.
>>
>>745171810
>a Hallow alternative
honestly would prefer a new standard biome and a new evil biome. Hallow standing alone always felt perfect to me. The three mechanical boss souls + hallow bars makes your hallowed equipment. No reason to mess with that.
>>
Now I get to laugh at and make fun off all those fags I would argue with on tiktok who got mad when I told them the entire Calameme team was full of schizo pedo retards and that it wasn't just Fagsol. What a great time to be alive!
>>
>>745169120
Lol no. Of all the games you could've picked
>>
>>745171420
Does anyone know if you can do spirit and thorium together or is there biome/art conflicts
>>
>>745175310
I've done a run with Thorium/Spirit/Redemption/Fargos/Stars Above. There's really no conflict. The problem mod is Calamity, it hates being installed with others due to changes in Worldgen. Same reason why other massive mods, like Ancients Awakened, don't play nice with the smaller mods.

Do be careful, though. With spirit, you have a choice between spirit classic and spirit reforged. I've played with both of them simultaneously, and nothing majorly bad happened, but except some weirdness in certain biomes spawning, like the spirit biome. Also expect a chunk of the jungle to be replaced with the Savannah. Other than that I've beaten them all to completion.
>>
>>745175310
>>745175487
If you want to be safe, I would avoid using both spirit classic and reforged together. They can cause conflict with eachother, even though the mod devs say that there's not much conflict. but individually, you can add spirit OR spirit reforged to a mod pack and generally not have problems.
>>
>>745169120
I enjoyed Necesse quite a bit but I don't think it's quite comparable. I do think something like Resilience could work pretty well in Terraria though, particularly for (real) melee weapons.

Philosophically I don't recognize the notion that there can be a single "greatest videogame of all time" but Terraria's on my list of games that I absolutely recommend people play.
The only real major flaw I can think to point to with it is that it does suffer a bit with the New Game+ sort of experience with Hardmode being re-worked into the second half of the game and the pre-hardmode side of the game getting shafted pretty bad.

Terraria is basically equivalent to an entry level beginner minecraft modpack. It does completely mog vanilla minecraft though
>>
>>745181479
Having played and made modpacks for myself, no Terraria stomps most of them.
Modpacks for Minecraft are mostly a meme because the base game itself has so little to offer and now having to account for interoperability that you simply can't make a modpack without having it just be a clone of one of the factory ones without having to completely isolate its progression to itself.
>>
>>745167695
riddle me this anon, if more content = always better, why don't you play with as large a mod list as you could possbily muster? add ALL the bosses, ALL the weapons, ALL the items, I mean more content is always better right? it's IMPOSSIBLE for it to be a bad thing, so why won't you go ahead and never stop adding stuff, it's ALWAYS better
>>
>>745182213
NTA but I always love doing that. Shove as much into the game as humanly possible, and my playthroughs easily last 200+ hours. The only reason I don't add more is due to limitations of the software itself.
>>
>>745181479
minecraft adventure/rpg/combat packs just suck
the technical ones can be fun and neat but that's about it
>make your own
no
>>
>>745182490
well you do you anon, live your best life, at least you're consistent I guess, I for one like when things have a vision and are more cohesive, I'm not sure you could even have that after tweaking and updating something for as long as terraria has but that's almost a philosophical discussion at this point
>>
>>745164680
Gayest fucking logo and art Ive ever aeen
>>
>>745181826
Mostly, the greatest content mods on Minecraft are tech mods. Minecraft combat just suck so much, so it's hard to make a mod comparable to Calamity. In the other hand, Terraria basically have almost no tech mods in comparison.
>>
>>745182213
>lol you like this game with a lot of content? why don't you add shit tons more content?? gottem.
>>
>>745183876
That's because there's no actual meat to the "game" of minecraft, even as far back as invdev the only thing it has was gathering resources.
Yeah having the shmoopledink machine double your ores out of your auto cobblestone is nice so you aren't constantly running out of resources to build the nine different components but you still haven't fixed the issue that minecraft basically has no gameplay and in this day and age trading worlds/builds is dead so there aren't even extrinsic factors for you to chase.
>>
>>745164893
This, but also I resent red for nerfing literally everything fun in the game and constantly adding anti-fun mechanics like torch luck and NPC happiness (and some that are annoying like endless NPC padding making you build twice the house as before to get key NPCs) and not all of them were reverted, some red even doubled down on, also constantly having immersion-breaking collabslop that just so happens to have gamebreaking items that may or may not be nerfed to the ground next update.
And this is before even mentioning all the DEI and bestiality bullshit like the literal zoophile furry NPC.
It felt like I was playing single player 2D fortnite at some point and legitimately soured all the fun memories of the game I had over the years.
The constant frankly pointless updates also kept breaking the modloader and fragmenting the modding community, which also effectively fucked over mods too, and that's also before considering the rod of discord upgrade among other items and mechanics straight up only being added to fuck with mod balance and design because red is a spiteful bitch over calamity and fargo doing better endgame content than his piss empress.
>>
>>745184038
yeah Minecraft's only draw is terraforming and building shit, they learned that ages ago and made the creative mode
>>
>>745184151
Considering your spoiled text, deciding to make post end-game progression is your own fault and The portal gun rips the game a way bigger asshole than the rod of discord could ever hope to and it literally EXISTS for the purpose of giving it to a fresh character and replaying the game with it and isn't locked behind extremely low drop chance of an obscure enemy and is doubly so in the game now that there's a secret seed that lets you skip a replay of the game if you don't have your saves/character on hand
>>
>>745183994
so let me get this straight, there's no difference to you? it's all content at the end of the day? you don't care what it is, as long as there's more of it you're happy like a little piggy to the trough? huh, interesting
>>
>>745184456
As long as it's good content. It doesn't have to be super vital for every playthrough, but even something as mundane as a new chair or a new pre-HM boomerang is nice to have.

There's a far cry between something mundane and something outright terrible, like Calameme content.
>>
>>745164893
I'm not even mad about the constant "final updates" specifically, they can add or change whatever, I'm mad that it means mods can never stabilize because tmodloader has to do a major overhaul update every so often that then forces mods to stop what they're doing, redo their entire code to fit with whatever new parameters that the recodes involved, and THEN they can start chugging along towards new content within the very limited window of time they have before tmodloader updates to the next "final update".
>>
>>745184585
That seems like more of a problem with tmodloader itself than Terraria. There didn't need to be a massive overhaul update for 1.4.5. It was just a content update, mostly. NOt like they completely ripped apart the code and taped it back together.
>>
>>745184642
anon, the devs literally do code overhauls constantly just to fuck with mods
>>
>>745184679
When was the last time they did that?
>>
>>745184519
>As long as it's good content.
>like Calameme content.
oh so Calameme is bad? but I thought all content was good? and more is always better? you're so close to getting it anon, it's almost as if people that complain about bloat don't like the new content relogic put in the game, shocking I know
>>
>>745184823
Calameme content is bad because it hampers other content because it's selfish. If Fagsol and Ozzie didn't constantly nerf other mods intentionally, just so their gay snowflake mod could come out on it, it would be welcome in all of my playthroughs.
>>
>>745184783
Like last update.
>>
>>745184783

>>

Kinda sounds like laziness on tmodloader's part. I play plenty of other games that often overhaul themselves in a big way, and yet modders are ready within the next month.

>A: 1.4.4 will continue to receive maintenance updates to ensure it stays functional. We do not have a date for when content updates will stop; in the near-term 1.4.4 will continue to receive regular updates until we are ready to 'Preview' the 1.4.5 beta build to modders.
