When is the exact moment videogames lost their soul?

>When is the exact moment videogames lost their soul?It was about a quarter to halfway into the PS4 gen.I just miss when games actually felt like a cohesive vision, like a bunch of bros who had an idea for a game and just made it. I also miss when games were much more gameplay-forward, more challenging, unforgiving, a bit rough around the edges, arcadey, gritty, you actually move and interact and fight in real space.Nowadays games just feel safe, corporate, sterilized, just like a mainstream product instead of a work of passion or art. There's excessive animations, magnetized attacks, skinner-box progression systems, tons of accessibility options, it just all feels super focus tested and sanded down, designed to be as palatable and inoffensive as possible for as large of a consumerbase as possible.
When Gen X stopped making video games and a little generation born primarily in the late 80s-early 90s started running the show.

>>745168137You are naive if you think millennials are the ones running the show. Most of those CEOs, publisher heads, and division managers are Gen X or late gen boomers.

>>745167934The actual 100% definite answer; it was when video game developers began taking most of their inspiration from existing video games rather than from other media or real life. Once video games were "solved" that more experimental era of trying to adapt those experiences into a completely new and fully interactive medium came to an end and a lot of the spark naturally went with it.

>>745171685Came here to post something like this. Back in the day, games were still new. The developers had their own backgrounds and their own inspiration that went into the games. Look at Miyamoto, who had a background in Industrial Design.Today, developers have a background in Game Design. They study games and they take inspiration from games. They don't have any of their own experiences that influence what they make.
>>745168047>It was the start of the HD eraPretty much, yeah...
