Is it really the best Elder Scrolls game, or is it the most recent? this opening sequence is one of the most iconic in video game history.

Modded Skyrim > Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion
>>
>>745168952
showing you a dragon in the first 5 minutes is definitely not what I would have done as a writer, it makes them seem underwhelming when you fight them later.
>>
>>745169023
you listed Skyrim twice
>>
>>745169073
That was an excellent decision from both a story and gameplay standpoint. Fighting one within a couple hours and absorbing its soul on the other hand, that's dimwitted.

I get the impression it's iconic because so many people have played the game, and have been forced to sit through most of it on repeat playthroughs.

It's not good
>>
no it's shit

Redditsted...I'm from Redditsted.

Head to your execution which is interrupted by the return of dragons to Elder Scrolls? escaping during the ensuing chaos. It's iconic if you rub your braincells together, not doable for everyone.

Skyrim is a good game and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

The intro is iconic because it's fucking bad. Stilted dialogue and a flood of exposition handwaving the timeskip, all before a 45 minute railroaded tutorial.
Also the cart glitched out often and would kill the horses, leaving you stuck on the road
>>
>>745169548
skyrim is weird. On every objective marker it can be torn to shreds. Shit plotlines, bland NPCs, boring quests, mindless dungeon crawling, shitty shallow gameplay mechanics, combat that feels like everyone is whacking each other with pool noodles. Janky animations, mid graphics, and so on.

And yet... there's just something about it. I can admit that all of these things are true, that on every metric it appears to be a shit game, and yet the some of its parts results in this cozy experience that we all find ourselves going back to over and over again.
>>
It's the most approachable and it's generally a good game. I think Morrowind is much better in terms of story, music, systems and setting but it's incredibly clunky by modern standards
>>
>>745169757
Second shortest tutorial after Morrowind btw
>>
>>745169812
Think of another game that actually offers EVERYTHING Skyrim offers. You can't. Each game you could name would have some limitation to it one way or another. Skyrim is the ultimate 'sit by a space heater with tendies during a winter night' game.
>>
>>745169518
>It. Is. EPIIIIIIIIIC!
>>
>>745169812
>there's just something about it
it's a Zelda game, everything about it is meh, but together in a cohesive package it has the right stuff™
>>
>>745169812
>And yet... there's just something about it
It has a better sense of place and exploration than any other open world game I've played. That first time you step outside, look at some beautiful vista and hear the music swell, that's the Skyrim magic.

It really IS incredible how completely dogshit the main quest and all the guild quests are though, I don't think you could fuck those up worse on purpose. I've bought Skyrim multiple times and played through it dozens of times and I've STILL never finished that Companions quest, what a fucking stinker.
>>
>>745168952
It's a basic Isekai opening.
Elder Scrolls is an Isekai setting.
>>
It's just the most recent|, it only came out a few years ago after all

play the Witcher 3

Modded Morrowind > Oblivion > Morrowind
Skyrim just sucks. Enderal is a overhaul mod that basically turns it into another game and makes it way better then the original Skyrim but the story is still shit.
>>
>>745170574
modded skyrim is second to modded morrowind I'd say.

lol
lmao even
>meandering open world that would unironically be better used as set dressing if half its distractions didn't exist: the likes of bandit outposts, smugglers' caches, monster nests etc. are all close enough that you're constantly glued to the minimap instead of the environment, and you likewise won't ignore them due to giving XP, loot, skill points when it comes to Places of Power and sometimes those "swim to a nearby area and find the treasure" side quests
>horrible loot system and non-existent economy, where you're not only not penalized but rather encouraged to loot everything that isn't nailed down for the rare chance you find super duper rare leather in someone's shack; that in turn leads you to selling most of the loot ending with dozens of thousands of coin even in the early game essentially nullifying another gameplay aspect: that of the bargaining of contract rewards, because you don't care about coin anymore
>on that note, due to the fucked up loot scale 9 times out of 10 the new sword you'll find will actually be worse than the one you have equipped at the time; and that is true as well for plot related, unique swords like the one crafted for you after a quest chain centered entirety around the sword or the one you're given by Crach for the Battle of Kaer Morhen
>all armors and swords stop mattering the second you reach Lvl. 14 and get to craft your very first Witcher armor, as from that point forward it's an objective fact you're better off changing from Witcher gear to Witcher gear ignoring the other 99%
>level caps are horribly thought out, with you leveling far faster than you can complete quests meaning even if you do the lowest level quest at any given time you'll still overlevel and thus, all lower quests from that point forward will give you 1% of the experience points. If a normal quest would give you 250 points, doing it overleveled (something you have no control over) will make it so you get 1 point instead

Oblivion Remastered is better
>>
>>745170574
Nobody cares about Oblivion outside of the people that grew up with it, anon. Normies forgot about its demaster a couple months after its release.

you played Starfield?

Jeremy Soule has been hard carrying Bethesda since at least Oblivion and he got cancelled now, so tes6 is pretty much doomed

I played all but Arena for the first time last year and I'd rate them like
Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim>Daggerfall
Morrowind is like far and away the best game I thought, it's writing and world design are just way better. It's actually the most un-elder scrolls like TES game I feel like, the others really put a focus on infinite replayability and randomly generated content where Morrowind by comparison is way smaller and more handcrafted but that's very much to its benefit because all the radiant stuff is basically worthless.
I like Oblivion over Skyrim for two reasons, first it's like an actual RPG still(The disappointment on starting Skyrim and realizing you don't even pick a starting class, let alone skills, was high)and second and frankly more importantly moving around in Oblivion is fun. You can go fast, ledges are more smooth and you don't get caught on them constantly, just walking around and doing stuff in Oblivion is way more enjoyable as a result, even though i think Skyrim has it beat in terms of content and combat. Oblivions main story is better too though it's hardly very good, Skyrims main story is literally one of the worst I've played in any RPG. It's very much a game you play for other reasons.
Daggerfall is a mess but it's a pretty cool mess, ironically I think it's probably the best looking and sounding TES game, and with the Unity port it plays very well too. It's main problem is that it has almost no content actually worth doing, only the main story dungeons have any amount of design to them and the insane mazeness of them and the horrible map mean that the entire game is basically a 3d maze because nothing else will matter before long

I tried to play Arena but it crashed way too much for me to get very far in it. It seemed interesting though, I actually like having a bespoke class with upsides and downsides and having a spell to rip through walls makes daggerfalls maze problem a lot less of an issue
>>
>>745168952
It has the series's prettiest and most lovingly crafted overworld, but worse dialogue than Morrowind, and considerably worse quests than Oblivion.
>>
>>745168952
>this opening sequence is one of the most iconic in video game history.
It kinda sucks though
When I play an open world RPG, I want to create my character and just get thrown into the open world immediately like in New Vegas
Playing some dumbass scripted sequence where I'm waiting like 5 minutes for an unskippable in-engine cutscene to pass before I can even create my character and then am subsequently forced into having a companion for a gay linear action sequence that is completely broken on higher difficulties is dogshit
>>
>>745173458
but Oblivion doesn't look like a snowy hell hole
>>
>>745169548
Its a 5/10 game praised as being a good game by retards. Completely average and shallow all across the board.
