The outrage over physical media has to be one of the most blatantly manufactured things I’ve seen in the vidya industry in a long time

are you dumb? if there's no physical version of a game there's no reason for the storefront to not charge 100+ dollars and never lower the price, and in that state you will have no choice but to but it from their store for their price since all other means of buying the game (amazon, physical stores, used markets, etc) will no longer be available. it's that simple.
>>
>>745190102
It's from a good instinct over losing rights over the product you buy, but dematerialization has brought so much convinience the push for more physical media seem like a losing strategy to me

Looking forward to paying 150€ to rent a digital only game.
>>

It is manufactured... by Sony. The goal is to expend all of the vitriol and momentum during the EU summer recess, so that Sony is not forced to comply with consumer protections or antitrust measures.
Once the manufactured discontent receded, they could claim that it was just an overreaction and most real dissenters got sick of arguing with jeets.
Write to your representatives and tell them to correct this miscarriage of licensing.
>>
>>745190102
I know someone who's really outraged over this and yet all he plays and talks about are gachaslop. The irony is appalling.

I don’t think it’s manufactured, it’s a small but extremely loud minority that cares about this. They’re the vegans of gaming, they just can’t shut the hell up about what they perceive to be morally superior consumption. And then you have all the YouTube grifters hopping on the trend.
>>
>>745190293
What are you on about nigger? Digital games are on sale all the time, new and old. It’s an easy way to attract new players and to get people talking about the game. Also who the fuck bothers with buying used games? How poor are you?
>>
>>745191331
And who establishes these sales
>>
>>745191331
The real danger, imo, is that games will simply stop being sold altogether. Every platform will become a streaming service like netflix and you won't be allowed to own anything. Which might sound good to some zoomers. Until they realize that the one and only game they wanna play for the next 20 years is now gonna cost them $10,000. Because that's the only way to keep playing it is to keep paying for it.

Go ahead and try to pretend that the big three don't all drool thinking about this.
>>
manufacted by whom?
big storage?
sony are the ones who make the discs in the first place.
>>
>>745190293
>if there's no physical version of a game there's no reason for the storefront to not charge 100+ dollars and never lower the price
Except the fact that you can get it from keysites or via piracy for cheaper, so they have to lower the price to stay competitive.
>>
as long as they don't turn chicken nugget factories into ai component factories i'm fine
>>
>>745191331
why do you think they put games on sale retard? they do it to compete with physical storefronts because even when selling a game at a discount on their own store sony makes more money than if they sold it through amazon or walmart. if there was no physical or used marketplace to compete with, why would sony ever drop prices?
>It’s an easy way to attract new players and to get people talking about the game.
this never happens unless the game is a flop and they're desperate to recoup sales, why would i buy that shit?
>>
>>745191942
>Piracy is cheaper
>When a decent GPU now cost $2000 and RAM has quadrupled in price in a year

Sure bro. You literally have to pirate dozens of new releases to justify modern PC gaming just to get some better fps on what's ultimately just a slop console game anyways. There hasn't even been enough games worth pirating in ten years for it to be worth it.

>B-b-but you can pirate old classics like Jagged Alliance which cost pennies anyways!
And my Windows XP rig still works. So what?

Seriously. Please point out 5 PC exclusives that justify spending $2k on a decent gaming rig in 2026.
>>
>>745192113
>Sure bro. You literally have to pirate dozens of new releases to justify modern PC gaming
Ownership already justifies PC no matter what it costs. There is simply no reason to buy a console unless you're happy with owning nothing.
And your whole argument was that without physical, games will be more expensive when that's clearly wrong as evidenced by games being cheaper on PC.
>>
>>745191331
Ever notice how sale prices are pretty random? That’s because they match the going rate for a used copy.
>>
>console niggers trying again
>>
>>745192834
You don't shit on PC. Hell, now they don't even allow you to change your hardware more than 5 times before your OS gets disabled.

Whatcha gonna do when steam eventually only supports windows 12 which will monitor every process you run?
>>
Not really, E33 and Astrobot exists
>>
>>745190102
No it isn't. People see the writing on the wall. It is one more push for the 2030 'you will own nothing and be happy' goal.
See >>745191756 we are getting closer to renting games every day. Imagine a future where you have to log into an online account to play a single player game. Then you have to update the game to play it. The update adds the latest commercials and advertisments to the games that interupt gameplay every 30 minutes. Then you have to remember to renew your Gamer Pro subscription service that went up another $15 per month to keep playing the game. So now you spend $120 a month to play unlimited games, or $200 a month if you want a commercial free acount.
>>
>>745193109
>You don't shit on PC
Yes people typically do it in the toilet.
>Hell, now they don't even allow you to change your hardware more than 5 times before your OS gets disabled.
What are you saying? You clearly have no clue what you're talking about.
>Whatcha gonna do when steam eventually only supports windows 12 which will monitorery process you run?
I'm going to keep using Linux and own all my games since they can't be taken from me. Enjoy snoy disabling all your discs when they deem it profitable.

>>745193615
>I run linux
KEK. The most obvious of copes. Enjoy paying $3000 on a rig to play Starfield, except at 200 fps.

ah yes, valve, the company that is heavily invested into linux will make steam windows only.

How is owning your PC and games a cope exactly? Seems you're the one coping about being niggercattle.

Why the fuck would I ever pay saarfield? You go have fun with that.

>He thinks gaming exists in a vacuum
Steam will do what the market accepts. PCs already price out 90% of modern gamers. Consoles are now so expensive they're no longer something kids can expect to get every Christmas and are serious investments. With all of that comes less sales. Meaning less incentive to bother making games compatible with linux a platform that most players will pirate shit for anyways. I mean it's already the case that 85% of games on steam are exclusively for windows. When the customer base shrinks you think that numbers going DOWN? No sir. Five years from now there won't be a single game published on steam that isn't exclusively for windows. Not because of valve. But because of the market.
>>
>>745194724
lol
>>
>>745194680
Were talking about the future, correct? Because I do own all of my console games. They can't be disabled or taken away. Just like a file on PC can't be. The question is the future. And in the future if the only way to "own" a game is to pirate it by buying a $3000 PC then you sure showed them, huh?

I'm still waiting on a list of 5 PC exclusives that warrant the price of modern PC gaming, btw.

>Steam will do what the market accepts.
And the market is rapidly accepting Linux. Valve has no reason to lock themselves to an OS their competitor controls.
>PCs already price out 90% of modern gamers.
Only if you count mobile "gamers". Anyone who can afford a console plus the extra costs associated with it can afford an equally powerful PC. Console isn't cheaper. You just pay less up front and the rest plus interest later.
>it's already the case that 85% of games on steam are exclusively for windows. When the customer base shrinks you think that numbers going DOWN? No sir. Five years from now there won't be a single game published on steam that isn't exclusively for windows.
Doesn't matter. Proton exists and runs hinduws games better than the OS they were designed for. The Linux userbase is also going up, not down.

>Because I do own all of my console games. They can't be disabled or taken away.
They absolutely can. Sony controls your console. They can just revoke your license and the console won't launch the game anymore. Doesn't matter if it's digital or physical.
>And in the future if the only way to "own" a game is to pirate it by buying a $3000 PC then you sure showed them, huh?
Then it'll still be better than a $1000 console + $2000 internet subscription + new $100 planned obsolence controller every year.
>I'm still waiting on a list of 5 PC exclusives that warrant the price of modern PC gaming, btw.
>the consolecattle NEEDS a list of exclusives
>ownership and freedom aren't selling points to it
Sad!

Even if it was ps5, I can just not connect it to the internet.
