>so far managed to not be swayed by the gacha demons.
Probably best to remain that way.
You can read/watch through the story in a dozen places and formats, and there are no [meaningful] branching paths or choices.

The gameplay is 99% a time-eating grind. The game is balanced so that just about anyone could make it through the main story, including a set of "rescue me" cheats built into the game.
The rewards for any actually challenging optional event battles are usually a single summon chance, and mostly just exist to try and help players who spent thousands of dollars on the game to try and justify that much spending.

And, the game will use every psychological trick it can to extract money from you. Cute girls, FOMO, Diminishing Returns (ie. at first the game floods you with new stuff, but as time goes on you have to spend more and more to make any meaningful progress). It's relentless.

I've played this game for a decade, spent more money than I care to admit, and while a part of me really loves this game, I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone.

You can only have one copy of your own servant on a team, and only one borrowed servant, so if you want to use a team that needs two copies of one servant (like all of the most powerful strategies do), you need to have a copy and your friend needs to have a copy.

It's also worth noting that for a lot of story fights the game will force you to take an NPC support so you can't rely on your friends. Support Musashi, my beloathed
>>
>>
>>745213246
Oh yeah you're right I remember Shimosa but that chapter wasn't too hard. Most really tough fights are on LB5 - 6 - 7. Especially 7 since you can't use command spells for a long time
>>
>>745212864
A new player can coast through the first six "arcs" without any challenges whatsoever. It's really just a matter of logging in when your Action Points meter is full, tapping red cards to win battles you practically can't lose, and progressing the story.

There's a difficulty spike in the seventh arc (out of 9 in part 1), but even that is manageable, and the general rule for balance in the entirety of part 1 is that everything can be beaten with Silver or lower servants, ie. servants you can get through the "free" gacha. And, it can take several months to play through all of Part 1.

Part 2 has bigger challenges as part of the main story, but by the time you've reached that, you should have gotten more than enough premium currency to get some good Gold servants, and there's also players who do their best to continue to prove that you can in fact beat the game with silver and lower servants (if you also borrow your a friends gold servants).

The best setups are only really required for Challenge Quests, which are optional and there's usually only about one or two a month, and for speed grinding, which ultimately amounts to making teams that can kill everything consistently without any chance for RNG to fuck it up, and then using a 3rd party script to just repeat the same inputs so that it can grind for you for several hours.

There are people in Japan who've spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this game.
That's not an exaggeration.

Beyond just getting a single copy of every servant (which would already be a matter of spending thousands of dollars), they try to get five or more copies, spending tens of thousands of dollars. They actually released stats on this, with more than 8k players having all the servants, and 60 "Grand Gachers" having gotten 5+ copies of all the servants.

And then there's the truly insane, who compete to see how many copies of a particular servant they can get, purely for bragging rights and to prove that there's no one who loves that servant more than they do. Thousands of dollars spent on pure flexing.

It's a huge deal in Japan. It's the most played mobile game, making literally billions of dollars, with telesions shows and movies and more porn than anything short of Touhou.

If there ever was EoS, there would be riots in the streets. Mass suicides. Developer's lives would be threatened.

EoS would be the EoL for many.

Making a gacha sequel out of nowhere would be too risky, what the game needs is a gameplay revamp if anything

Misinterpretation of an interview about the finale of part 2 of the story, they already had plans for a part 3 if the game kept going strong even after the finale

Most mobile games live and die within a span of 2 years. That was roughly the original plan for FGO, a quick and simple cashgrab that had very little effort put into it, with Nasu hating the ideas of Gachas and wanting to have as little involvement as possible. They would toss out the bug-filled, lazy game with braindead gameplay, a spinoff story of no real consequence which would conclude in 2 years, and they'd milk a few whales for a while before shuttering things.

But, it became unexpectedly popular and (profitable). Actually, unprecedentedly more popular, completely shattering all projections and breaking records. It quickly made more money than all the other Fate games. Combined. Several times over. And, Nasu realized that not only could it not be ignored, it was also an opportunity to potentially elevate gacha games.

FGO transformed, with each chapter being longer than the last, and it soon became the central Fate story, in no small part because it would routinely make more money in a single month than any of the other Fate games would make in their entirety. The original planned story was finished in two years, but then extended, with Nasu laying out a "10-year plan", which was still a lofty idea at the time.

And, now, after 10 years, the game is still making tons of money, and it's being further extended and expanded.

It's not exactly fake news, even from day 1, FGO was planned to conclude after a small run of 1-2 years. You guys may not remember this, but during Lostbelt 6 and 7 the possibility of ending the game after concluding those stories was brought back (and obviously didn't happen). The game still makes a lot of money, Nasu, Takeuchi, Aniplex and all the other people behind the game still find the game profitable and has allowed Nasu to do things her way.
Unrelated, but I find hilarious everytime she tries to do the same with the Extraverse it always ends in disaster (I'm looking at you Last Encore and REMAKE).

It's hard to translate Nasu's writing style and to get nuance across in a translation.

魔法使いの夜, for example. "Mahou-tsukai" has mild implications of benevolence and/or operating on fairytale logic (Cinderella's Fairy Godmother is called "Mahou-tsukai" in Japanese translations), so "witch" is probably the closest in nuance to Nasu's intent.

Kiritsugu
>「子供の頃、僕は正義の味方に憧れてた」
>「うん、残念ながらね。ヒーローは期間限定で、オトナになると名乗るのが難しくなるんだ。そんなコト、もっと早くに気が付けば良かった」

Kirei

You can actually see when Nasu started caring.

Camelot was probably where most people can agree FGO went from an okay game to something actually worth paying attention to, and that's when Nasu came back to write for the game after only penning the very first chapter.

After that, the chapters varied in quality as different writers with occasionally Nasu stepping in, but all of it was really just leading up to Nasu writing so much for LB6 that it had to be split into 3 parts.

A theme of Fate/stay night is that life is about choices that (You) make

>Einzberns had an ancestor that could use the third magic but she died that's why they created the homunculus they are clones of that person trying to recreate her
>This doesn't work so they try to create the holy grail and manage to gic it form but can't power it up.
>They bring in the Tohsaka into their plan to use the grail to not only recover the third magic but to use it to transform all of humanity into gods.
>The dude agrees he has land rich with magic and hidden far away from the mage association and the church he is also an extremely talented necromancer so he also provides the concept behind the servants.
>They realize that having only two people in the deal would make them prone to back stab each other so the Tohsaka invites his friend Makiri and expert on familiars he bring the concept of command spells into the plan.
>The original idea was to work together summon the servants and then force them all to commit suicide with commands to power the grail and go all transhumanism but they ended up betraying each other and everyone destroyed each other after that they came up with rules for the holly grail war and everything else is history
>Kiritsugu chose to stay and fight, sacrificing Irisviel. In Prisma, Kiritsugu ran off with Irisviel
>Tokiomi chose to give Sakura to Zouken
>Shirou chooses to help clean the kyudou dojo
>Rin chooses to use her gems to save Shirou's life
>Shirou choosing to participate in the Holy Grail War or revoke his command spell
>Ilya chose to spare Shirou after he threw himself in front of Berserker
>Kotomine flat out offered Shirou the grail if he would use it to save all of the other orphans in the church basement. Shirou turns this wish down knowing it would require retconning away the fire and destroying the person he is
>HF Shirou has to choose between his ideals and Sakura

It's not about submissiveness, it's about insignificance. Women are indeed submissive, but the most defining element of female fantasy is actually still that she's ultimately the center of attention and importance. FGO won't end because it keeps people employed and whales happy

>Iwakami: It started off with Aniplex working with Type-Moon to bring Fate to anime form with Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. And not just the Fate series. In 2007, we did The Garden of Sinners movies. After we were done with Fate/Zero, we were talking with Takeshi Takeuchi of Type-Moon about a new way to develop Fate, and a smartphone game was one of the ideas that we came up with. So Type-Moon started working on Fate/Grand Order as one of the official numbered titles in the Fate series.

Tsukurimonogi (FHA and Mahoyo director) left because Nasu was wasting his time

>Extra Record? Still in limbo, so bad that bamco had to drop it
>By Niinou's own admission, Bamco was doing a lot to keep the development functional (even hiring the musicians, the visual departments, etc.) because Studio BB is literally just 7 guys
>their initial goal was to also remake CCC after Extra
>Red Garden is nowhere to be seen
>Nasu said in the FGO 10th anniversary ending that hundreds of people work on FGO and he can't exactly make them all out of work and homeless just because he's trying to be deep, he is giving them a job by writing FGO
>Nasu wants you to cope with sliding low res pngs that get worse animation every year

>Mahoyo is the first story Nasu wrote & published (in 1996) with a handful of copies only his friends like Takeuchi (the OG artist) got
>Entire Nasuverse and Fate got their start from this unreleased novel
>Touko got a large role in KnK was because Nasu wanted to make up for portraying her as the villain in Mahoyo
>Aozaki Aoko appears in Tsukihime prologue
>FSN, particularly UBW, borrows a lot of concepts and ideas from Mahoyo, ever thought that the scene were Aoko chases Soujuurou in the house of mirrors was similar to the scene in UBW where Rin chases Shirou through the school? That's because Nasu lifted that scene from the original, unpublished Mahoyo novel, where it all took place in their school instead. Aoko even lists it as a possible location to set up her ambush before Alice indirectly gave her the idea to use the amusement park
>Both Mahoyo and FSN even has a shady priest whom Aoko thinks is shady like how Rin thinks Kirei is shady
>Rin vs Sakura heavily inspired by Aoko vs Touko
>Arguably the most visually and technically impressive VN
>New Mahoyo novel series is planned to be 3 volumes long and will be published by Seikaisha FICTIONS

Nasu goes full circle after writing Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood, Stay Night, Hollow Ataraxia, Extra, CCC, Last Encore and FGO

the books pictured are the original script of Mahoyo. Only three exist and they’re zealously secured inside Type-Moon’s headquarters. Although that’s cool as it is, what catched my attention were the contents of the novel:

Contents:
x=can’t distinguish the kanji desu.

Aren’t most of these titles already used? If so, that means the original script has run out of content for the sequels. Either that, or the acts were butchered/split into many parts that’ll be integrated later, though I think that’s unlikely. This could explain why Nasu takes too long to continue its sequels

>"It's like when you write - when you're younger, you look back on [previous work] and you think 'Oh, goodness what was I thinking,'" Nasu explained. "It's not that I'm embarrassed, I just don't like to look at my previous works."

>Nasu: When I wrote Kara no Kyoukai, I felt resistance towards so many things—society, entertainment, culture—and it was my motivation to write the story. Now, I am thrilled to be writing from a place of gratitude, though with just a touch of sadness. It feels like the old Nasu Kinoko has passed on. I suppose you could say I've gone under a heavy detox, and feel much more virtuous now (laughs)

>Just like Urobuchi-san said, it's difficult to call the relationship between Shirou and Saber a relationship between a man and a woman. Saber has fought for a long time as the ruler of Britain, but then turned into a girl all of a sudden and fell in love with Shirou. It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it. But I really wanted to push it towards that sort of boy-meets-girl story. So as a last resort, I had Shirou continually say things to her like "But you're a girl," and "Girls aren't supposed to fight,"

>Q: In the first month of 2004 Fate went on sale. What was the reaction to it like?

>Nasu: It was a title we believed in, so seeing it sell well gave us a lot of confidence. The reactions to it were both good and, in some cases, a little hollow. It was a victory that was both satisfying and hollow.
>Takeuchi: He's speaking of the Sakura route. A lot of people were disatisfied with it. Hence, the hollow feeling.
>Nasu: Yes, although recently more people are warming up to it. When it first came out, people were so excited and pleased by the Saber and Rin routes that they expected to keep proceeding down the royal road. The Sakura route is not like that at all, and they had trouble accepting that when it first appeared. We learned a lot from that experience

Fate Fun Facts

>Nasu and Takeuchi during FSN development kept fan criticisms of Tsukihime as an incentive to work harder
>Nasu was 26 when he wrote Tsukihime and 30 when writing FSN
>Takeuchi wanted to explore the "fighting against yourself" and "hero of justice" theme
>A lot of scenarios from Mahoyo, such as living with female mages, battles and chases in the school ground, and tactical meetings on the school roof, were all used in Fate
>Nasu originally added red herrings that made the player think Gilgamesh might be Shirou
>During the plotting stage, UBW was also the subtitle of Fate/stay night itself. The name showed up in the “upcoming works” section of the pamphlets we distributed at the 2001 Winter Comiket
>Rin was Nasu's favorite character when writing FSN
>Takeuchi wanted the concept of a little girl accompanied by a giant guardian
>Rider in Prototype was male Perseus but it was changed because they needed more female characters
>Fate/stay night was supposed to have four routes (Saber, Rin, Ilya and Sakura) but after he finished Rin's route he became aware of the costs and limited budget. So he decided to consolidate two routes (Ilya and Sakura) into one route (HF). He knew that readers would have mixed feelings about the change in HF's direction by ending the battle royale
>For Takeuchi, Sakura's route had the plainest impression despite being the flashiest of the routes, because the themes were difficult to understand, and Sakura was plain to him
>Nasu actually planned for HF Normal (Shirou sacrifices himself to save Sakura) to be the only ending, not HF True (Illya managed to keep him alive)

it's not the same. think like, the majority of softcore up-angled pictures of women could essentially become giantess content in the way that they look down at you and mog you. or if a woman way bigger than you when you were a kid holds you. or if a woman stepped on something and it made you uncomfortable while at the same time tickling your fancy. you self insert into that power discrepancy, and it amplifies the significance and the thrill of the event in a way that someone petite couldn't achieve. it's not entirely about big = big power = attractive, but that's all i can think of right now.

Sakura's not-a-virgin status aside, everyone always remembers the badass scenes of Heaven's Feel and not what a fucking slog some sections of that route were.
Plus there is the fact that, to be perfectly honest, the route doesn't do a very good job of establishing why you (the player) should care about Sakura.
Saber and Rin are cool and interesting characters, meanwhile Sakura struggle to go outside her "designated victim" status.
There is a reason why so many (including me) like her more as a Dark Sakura, and it's not because she's dommy mommy or whatever, it's because when she transform it feels like it's the point in the whole VN where she actually start to get to be a character with her own agency, rather than a plot device.
And considering the fact that Shirou gives up the ideals he fought so hard until this point, for this girl which until this point is little more than a "princess in her castle" to be saved, when he didn't do that for Rin and Saber is infuriating and lame for a lot of people.

The fucking servers were literally melting every other day and the gacha was turbo scamming us with keys. We used to pray for the servers to shit themselves to get more apologems.
It was all shit but new to us so the TMfans had a shitload to talk about and hang out together.
Then during the fucking halloween event these retarded troglodyte devs thought they would have timed quests included meaning the entire global playerbase fucking rushed in specific timeframes onto the game servers to do the limited quests, guaranteeing server crashes every time.
It was like living under communism, It was a shit experience but we had each other to suffer with.
This kusoge lost its spark once the fucking planned out content finished and they were forced to just shit out and stall for close to a decade.
The only time it was fun was during part 1 when shit was just content releases galore with servers that were fucking up more than they worked.

No, this is known. Nasu always intended for there to be continuations to Mahoyo. Aoko was always meant to be an "And the adventure continues" type heroine, who keeps getting caught up in hijinks. The Mahoyo VN matches up more or less with the original novel that Nasu wrote in college, but even way back then, he intended for there to be sequels.

The issue is that he never actually sat down to write the fucking things. The current Mahoyo isn't "the original story cut up into three parts". It's part 1 which already existed from the start, with part 2 and 3 still unwritten to this day. He NEVER wrote them.

Is Extra Record really Nasu's fault? When you think about it, he's already completed his job way back when he made the original Fate/EXTRA. Even if you make additions or alterations, 80% of the work was already done. Nasu isn't what's holding it back.

it's the same as any other GTS based niche. big lady does thing, draw your own conclusions. mouth focused scenarios have their own kind of thrill, and the threat of secondary consequences can add to the excitement.

GTS -> tits, feet, butts, mouth -> unaware, accidental, intentional but playful, intentional but malicious. vore in particular brings in elements of other fantasies, like bondage, transformation, scat, and so on. debasing their victim is its own kind of thrill, and whether it's full tour or they get turned into shit, it's really just a preference difference in how they're debased.

UBW had the most famous lines

>「だが他者による救いは救いではない。人を叶えるのは本人の意思と結果だけだ。他人による救いなど、そんなものは金貨と同じだよ。使えば、他人の手に回ってしまう」

The fucking datamined leak list from back then probably still has several servants not released. ( I don't know for sure as I have not followed whatever this trash game does to a 100% but I bet Perseus or some other protoshit and others still didn't make it but obscure japenis writer #132 as a 5* SSR made it in)
It was however back then magical and exciting to think about how this game will be used for further Type Moon content with what they have been planning with Servants on that doc. That list had stuff from every corner of the Nasuverse right?
I thought back then FGO would be a fun side thing that TM would use to link up every other side franchise for fun content. Like a Carnival Phantasm on steroids on your phone with constant Events and fun times.
I expected it to actually move things like the Extraverse, Prototype and all the others forward enough to develop as well with novels, mangos, anime and games to come out regularly.
The Extraverse was going to have a new set of games coming with Extella so that one was proving my expectations right and things were exciting. Oh jeez was I wrong.
Instead this kusoge became the main thing and with enough stalling and the usurped userbase being filled with the creatures it has now it's literally the only thing.
We have each other to blame from back then for having so much fun with a shit game out in the open. Made it look like it was a kamige for the foreign hordes peeking in.
The retarded funghi sold his life's work so that the suits can fiddle around with accounting numbers to hide their losses each year.
>>
>>745232773
>Is Extra Record really Nasu's fault?
Maybe more Takeuchi's fault, but they're the ones who put together a team that clearly can't handle developing it. It's the same thing they did with FGO where they picked a small company they could bully into letting them be as lazy as possible and it bit them in the ass when they actually got serious about FGO and now all the cool shit they want included is hamstrung by a mediocre developer.

The only servant still left on the list are Perseus and Prototype Gilgamesh and Violet, and they've been hinting very strongly that they're about to do something with Prototype so the first two may be getting in soon (lol at Violet though)
And yes, we get obscure nip writers every year
>>
>>745234242
I personally don't really care that much. Prototype characters don't really interest me that much. They're all really just ideas and not much else. All we have for them is an extremely short PV for something that doesn't exist. That's not enough for me to form any sort of attachment to them.

>Also something about the norns (goddesses of fate in norse myth) being involved in all of this
They're shitters taking advantage of whatever caused After Time to happen in the first place to attack Chaldea. They're not the primary culprits.
Oh, and the world is completely fucked again according to Gordolf.

Can't imagine anyone giving a crap about the story at that point. At least there was some effort in it before.
>>
>>745235041
Unironically I don’t know how to do it correctly it is what it is
>>
>>745229683
It’s the longest when it should be the shortest. It has the flimsiest plot threads holding it together, it comes across as more schizo because it’s a result of a time crunch and combining elements of a scrapped Illya route.

But really it’s because the ending kind of sucks. Normal ending is too dour and depressing. True ending feels like a fanfic. There’s a reason a lot of people when they think of the peak it’s usually escaping the forest not the actual final series of confrontations. Jeweled sword is the biggest asspull in the VN for instance. Compare Rule breaker to save the day to Avalon in Fate or UBW in UBW. As cool as Shirou vs Kirei is people basically memoryhole the 10 straight minutes of Zouken cumming in his pants over justeaze which fucks up the flow of the fight

It has the best character work but the least consistent plot but more importantly themes. You have an insanely massive amount of text dedicated to repentance, birth, and sacrifice which is demonstrated beautifully by Shirou’s mind and body falling apart but it’s paid off by…uh nothing.

Also this being said it was never far behind UBW and is basically always put number 2 so it’s not like it was overlooked

>and combining elements of a scrapped Illya route.

What do we know of the Illya route?
>>
>>745231141
>Shirou saving Sakura
There’s also the issue of basically the last third of the route not really needing to happen. If Sakura stopped spiraling out of control for LITERALLY 1 minute Shirou could’ve just excised the angry manlet right there in his backyard.

It’s a weakness of the route. You can visible see how the plot is being bent to accommodate for the theme, coming out of two routes where the plot and theme is more naturally integrated.

After UBW shirou fought to the end to preseve his ideals, seeing him throw them away for sakura left a bitter taste in my mouth
>>
>>745238337
The thing is it’s supposed to cost him, his origin is sword after all. It’s his body, his whole life, literally. The entire point of HF is that casting that aside is to throw away who he is. His body breaks down as does his mind. It’s just ass pulled away at the eleventh hour by literal magic performed by a better heroine

maybe but with the money they have they should've been able to hire more competent people to make their vision come true. The reality is : they don't really care that much and they think pngs and musics and writing are enough. And they're kind of right. It's such a strong IP.

Shirou and Sakura under the rain.
Where Sakura is trying desperately to push Shirou away because being with her puts his life at risk for a battle he can't win, and protecting her means, allowing innocents to suffer and die, which is something that Sakura knows tears Shirou apart inside. Mixed with this is Sakura's own paranoia that Shirou, even if he did side with her, would eventually abandon her like her father and her sister did (in her eyes).
Shirou in contrast starts the scene with Illya, ideologically torn on what to do. Should he save the innocent women he loves? Or should he kill her so the city from another potential Fuyuki Fire? And the Shadow, which is killing dozens of people every night? Can Shirou follow in the footsteps of his foster father, Kiritsugu's true, cold-hearted ideals? Or should he follow the idealized version of Kiritsugu who never truly existed?
Illya comes to Shirou and tells him that it's okay to be selfish for once in his life. That he can't keep putting everyone else's happiness over his own. That if he lies to himself and kills Sakura, he'll probably never forgive himself. But regardless of what Shirou chooses, she'll stand by him.
So Shirou chooses Sakura, and he embraces her as she tries so desperately to push him away. She tries to paint herself as a villain, a whore, and someone who doesn't deserve love or sympathy. But Shirou sees through it. He embraces her and swears to protect her, but they both know it's a lie, because Shirou isn't strong enough to protect her from the forces that will come for her life. But the beauty of the moment, the illusion of tranquility, allows them to ignore this and embrace each other as lovers, lovers who CAN have their happy ending, which is why "This Illusion" plays in the background. Its an incredible touching and somber scene, and frankly, its the best written scene in the entire novel

>Shirou realizes the other kids that were turned into orphans due to the fire were in the church basement
>If Shirou hadn't been adopted by Kiritsugu, then he too would have been melted down and slurped by gilgamesh.
>Gilgamesh needs orphans to use as mana batteries
>Never mentioned in UBW or HF or ever again

Good writing, nasu
>>
>>745238983
But it’s not an illusion because lol please keep an eye out for aoko’s VN I am alluding to her sister you see this is a KnK reference and she happened to build Shirou a perfect doll body so they can in fact be together happily forever after the end until last episode cucks Sakura.

HF true end should have been
>Illya resurrects Shirou completely but he will die soon
>gets to fulfill his promise to view the cherry blossoms with Sakura
>dies
>time skip reveals Shirou knocked Sakura up before kicking it
>>
>>745239728
>traced fucking avalon
it's been so long since I read fate route (almost 20 years I think), didn't he have avalon inside of him already? or was this after he gave it back to seibah?
>>
>>745239728
>he could beat most servants doing that
Lmao no
>>
>>745240376
He gave it back to saber. That was the scene it goes back and forth of saber v gil and Kirei v Shirou

It syncs up when Shirou used avalon projection and saber uses the real avalon
>>
>>745240636
Avalon literally no sells enuma elish
>>
>>745240945
ok? And then you can't attack while it's active and Gil can just fire whatever the second it's deactivated and insta kill shirou
at best it's a stalemate until shirou's mana runs out

Weren't people gassing up FGO Part 2 because they said it had the balls to "end" their story lol. unc is still dragging it

Honest question: Will we ever get a popular Japanese game where giantess stuff is translated into meaningful mechanics?
>>
>>745241781
Don’t some or one of the Disgaea games let you make units giant? I know in 4 I liked making Desco huge anyway

I think that was the most recent one has your characters getting turned giant as a mechanic
>>
>>745242024
Yeah, monster fusion in 4 functioned like Magichange but also made the base unit bigger for a few turns. I think 5 had it too, but I never used it.
7's overarching gimmick was "Jumbofication," you could make any unit bigger than the screen for a few turns, and they could just reach across the map like it was a board game to crush shit. Or punch an enemy giant in the face, if one was present.
