I've never understood people who need to mod Oblivion in order to play it. HUD mods yeah, I understand, but the model "overhaul" mods for it are so fucking ugly. Like 50% of the videos about this game on Youtube are using some form of those.
I for one like the look of the potato-people that make up Cyrodiil.
>>
>>745204668
morrowind > oblivion > skyrim
>>
Vanilla Skyrim is honestly shockingly bad for a studio of that size and I'm kind of amazed it blew up with normalfags the way that it did. I think the original trailer becoming a meme right when internet memes started entering normalfag consciousness really was a major factor. Modded Skyrim is indeed incredible though.
>>
The only people that even remotely care about Oblivion are the minority that were 10 when they first played it and it's hilarious how some anons still try to unironically pass it off as a good game.
>>

>>
>>745205717
biggest issues with vanilla oblivion are:
>thievery is pointless, 99% of household objects are worth less than ten gold
>stealth damage multiplier is a joke
>scaled loot means doing ANY quest before hitting max level means you are punishing yourself with shit rewards.
>level-scaled enemies fuck you if you decided to be a stealth class (good luck with kvatch and its two dozen daedroths)
also the classic gripe
>endgame looks retarded when every tavern and bandit cave is filled with enemies in full glass or daedric like its on sale
>>
>>745205929
Then if I tell you I was 27 when I played it the first time you'll just call me a retard. Why don't you go seethe somewhere else Morrowtranny?

desu the first 50 or so hours of skyrim are amazing the first time you play (specially if you have never played another elder scrolls game before, like the majority of people who played skyrim). After that you start realizing how repetitive and boring it is
>>
>>745204668
>Vanilla Morrowind > Vanilla Skyrim > Vanilla Oblivion
modded list is fine
morrowind barely needs mods, tamriel rebuilt is extremely high-quality, but it is not necessary for the first 3-4 playthroughs
oblivion is poop from a butt no matter how many sprinkles you put on it
>>
>>745204668
yeah, imma stop you right there criminal scum. oblivion is worthless without mods
>>
>>745206146
Have you ever tried modding Oblivion? It's a shitshow.
>>
>>745205843
Yeah what >>745206169 said, you basically get a full game's worth of time where you're enjoying it, but after that the systems start to break down and you start to realize more and more about what's wrong with it. The mods fix a lot of that but the vanilla game is pretty ass after a certain point.

Not really, you'll be leveling up as you do quests so the next reward will be better. Waiting until max reward to do the quests is min-maxing shit as retarded as the classic "I have to make myself into a monster with alchemy before starting the Morrowind MQ".
>endgame looks retarded when every tavern and bandit cave is filled with enemies in full glass or daedric like its on sale

many quest rewards are have different stats depending on your level when you complete the quests.
if you complete a quest at level 5 you get the weakest version of a unique item, if you complete it at level 10, you get the very same item, but with way better damag/defense stats or some unique trait attached to it.
many unique item quest rewards max out at player level 30 so doing completing those quests it at any point prior to that means you get a noticably weaker version of the same item reward.

Oblivion has an alright but mostly nothing memorable main quest. Skyrim has nothing. All of those things you mentioned, it's memorable because of very basic "us vs them" writing. It does the job, but it's absolutely in the shadow of Oblivion's side questlines. Especially the guilds

I think all of Bethesda's games are extremely overrated, but I will accept someone saying they really like Oblivion. Morrowind is nostalgiabaiting and hasn't aged well nor was it that good of a game when it came out. Skyrim is dogshit in every way. Oblivion has some major flaws but has the most soul out of all of them for sure. Best faction quests too.

>Oblivion's narrative breaks the second you start thinking about what Morrowind set up with a sickly Uriel, or his heirs being daedric doppelgängers, or how convenient having Mark & Recall would've been to escape from his assassins. It's a game set in the heart of the Empire that supposedly revolves entirely around the politics of the Emperor's assassination and finding of his secret heir, yet the Elder Council do not play any role whatsoever so much so they don't even exist outside of Ocato. Skyrim set up the Great War, the Mede Empire, the Dominion, the Concordat, the Markarth Incident and everything about the Reachmen, Delphine v Paarthurnax, the Red Year and the Dunmer's refugee crisis, the Penitus Oculatus, the Synod and the College of Whispers, and shitloads other stuff people actually find interesting and have discussed for a decade and a half. People remember and talk about Bleak Falls Barrow and the Golden Claw, they remember climbing the Throat of the World and confronting that fucking frost troll, they remember infiltrating the Thalmor Embassy, they remember Alduin's Wall, they remember collecting an Elder Scroll from a Dwemer ruin then using it to go back in time, they remember Season Unending, they remember visiting Sovngarde. Skyrim's main quest is genuinely memorable, moreso than Oblivion's, Fallout 3's, Fallout 4's and Starfield's.
>MW is also better than both, sorry
I mean I said as much, yeah.

One of the things I liked about the Remaster, is that rendering distances are far far better. I was getting frustrated playing OG Oblivion and seeing farmsteads emerge from the ether like 5ft in front of me. And since level scaling is atrocious in Oblivion, that you can individually adjust player and enemy damage separately in the Remaster. But the Remaster is still somewhat poorly optimized, so if you're particularly sensitive to texture load-ins or occasional frame-rate drops, you should just wait 'til it's patched. People thought the Remaster was abandoned for some time, but Bethesda just said recently that they'll be bringing in some fixes in... who knows when, but at least they'll be doing it at some point confirmed.

Some say the OG has more soul, especially with the menu design and color palette (bloom), also some of the Remaster faces make some of the characters look like drunks and druggies, which is unfortunate. But besides that the Remaster is very pretty imo

Because you played Oblivion 20 years ago, it'll probably still feel quite fresh if you just hop onto the original. I actually preferred playing the Remaster because of the two aforementioned tweaks and because I was constantly stopping to take in the nature and the mountains, which look spectacular in the Remaster. But the OG is also significantly cheaper. If the price doesn't bother you and you don't feel like playing both back-to-back (reasonable, because it's essentially still the same game) then I'd just suggest the Remaster because it'll be an entirely new way of experiencing Oblivion/completely fresh to you.

Good games don't, but some games still do. 24 years ago Morrowind's combat was... tolerable. Maybe it's just because I was a teenager when I played it then. But today trying to play that shit is awful. Genuinely horrendous combat by every metric. Not that Oblivion's is that much better but it is absolutely serviceable.
>>
>>745221256
It's not just worse to mod (which is true), the mods themselves don't hold a candle to Skyrim's and Morrowind's mods.

>ut the Remaster is still somewhat poorly optimized, so if you're particularly sensitive to texture load-ins or occasional frame-rate drops, you should just wait 'til it's patched
Anon it's been a year and a half and they have completely dropped the game. It's never going to get patched. It probably can't because it's just running the original game/engine in a UE5 wrapper, so to fix it would necessitate deconstructing the original game and fixing its problems too. Which I doubt anyone is around to do anymore at Bethesda (who didn't even make the remake)

It's not about "muh culture war", Bethesda devs themselves such as Bruce Nesmith said that "Morrowind does not stand the test of time" clearly in reference to its writing and themes. And if the discussion surrounding Skyrim's Civil War quest is one of many example showing how the newer fanbase is full of faggots. Skyrim multiplayer mod serves also insta-bans or jails anyone saying any disparaging things about another person's fucking fantasy race, even if you RP as a Thalmor or some shit.

>it also lacks good quests
It has the best writing in the game by far. Morrowind's main quest is probably the most interesting and well-written of the three modern titles.
>it also lacks good enemy ai
That's true and that was a limitation of the time. Oblivion was the first one to experiment with proper AI and in that fact it did it well, even if it was often goofy and broken.
>it also lacks good progression
It has more satisfying progression than Oblivion since Oblivion has the most broken leveling system of them all. Whether it has more satisfying progression than Skyrim is debatable, but I think so because it's not shy to sprinkle high level enemies all over the world. So when you actually do come back to fight a particular enemy that bested you before, it feels satisfying. Meanwhile, with Skyrim, you can expect that just about everything scales with you.
>it also lacks meanignful stat progress
Again disagree, but feel free to be more specific.
>it also lacks the world not being static as fuck
I'd lump that in with ai in general

The main appeal of Morrowind is that it's writing/world-building is by far the best of them all. People play these RPG's primarily for the writing/world-building, so a lot of the more dated elements of the time are easy to forgive, especially if you can compartmentalize the game as being a product of the time and a game released literally 24 years ago. It's also why I wouldn't say Ocarina of Time is shit compared to Breath of the Wild because it also suffers from game design choices that feel dated today.

Writing is not the same as quest design. One is the narrative; the other is how the game actually plays. It is a video game, after all.
Even if you have good writing “reasons” for why you are doing something, the quests themselves are still basically “Okay, go get me this” or “Go talk to this guy and convince him to either give you an object or grant you permission to do something.” Yes, I know what you’re going to say: “B-but every RPG has quests like this!” The problem with Morrowind’s quests also lies in how static the game world is.
Take the final Thieves Guild quest, for example. I genuinely thought we were going to go with the other Thieves Guild members and actually invade the rival guild as this epic conclusion to the entire questline. Instead, the quest literally consists of you walking into the guild, taunting Sjoring until he attacks you, and then killing him and his Orc lackey as if they were just some random NPCs.
This game has some of the most epic premises imaginable and some of the most boring executions. That is the main problem with its quest design.
Then you have fags defending this shit by saying, “B-BUT AT LEAST IT’S NOT SCRIPTED SLOP!” when scripted quests aren’t inherently bad, as long as they give you the freedom to make choices instead of making the game feel like a hallway leading you straight to the end of the quest.

>It has more satisfying progression than Oblivion.
I’m not comparing it only to other Elder Scrolls games. I’m talking about the game as a video game in its own right, and as an RPG. The game’s progression is really bad because of the enemies’ low level caps and how quickly you level up. On top of that, it’s incredibly easy for the player to unintentionally break the game, to the point where it feels like you’re cheating.

The game lacks that “middle ground” that most RPGs have, where you can eventually beat low-level enemies easily while higher-level enemies are still a challenge. In this game, you go from a scrub to a god almost instantly.
The reason Oblivion has such awful level scaling is that they were trying to prevent this exact problem. They obviously failed miserably, but that was the intention.

>It also lacks meaningful stat progression.
In most games, stats are actually meaningful to the build you’re trying to make. From the get-go, Morrowind throws that shit straight into the trash by letting you freely max out every stat regardless of what type of “class” you choose. By that point, you’re not roleplaying as anything other than a Mary Sue.
Yes, you can do something like a challenge run and decide not to level up anything that doesn’t fit the character you’re supposed to be roleplaying. But the fact that this is something the player has to impose on themselves as a challenge already tells you it’s not good RPG design.
Related to that is how, despite having so many stats and skills, the game does very little with them. Personality is fucking useless. Speed only affects how fast you walk, but not how fast you attack or how many turns you get before the enemy, like in most RPGs. Luck is just “a little bit of everything,” rather than affecting things like critical hit chance, which is the foundation of a lot of fun builds in other games.
That’s why it’s fucking hilarious to me when people point to the sheer number of stats and skills as if it’s some kind of evidence of “wow, look how old-school and complex of an RPG this game is!” when it’s actually the most basic shit imaginable.

Sticking your head in the sand and pretending something didn't happen doesn't actually make it true.
>literally zero refutation to player counts & ratings
Ad populum IS a refutation to player counts and ratings. Sales and public opinion don't equate to objective quality and you know this; it's just the only coping mechanism you have and keep falling back to in the place of providing an actual argument
>waaah ad hom, you're crying

Morrowind felt less empty as well. There's more to a world not feeling empty than having shitloads of caves (which Oblivion has), it's about little things like the lack of random encounters which wouldn't affect the world design at all, just be NPCs you meet on the road, or cool landmarks that don't have loot or dungeons attached to them but still feel like they were designed on purpose by a developer.

Oblivion was basically designed to be fast traveled between locations so, like Starfield, the bits between don't really have any point.

I never understood the mishmash meme, like skyblivion or TTW. Why would I want to make two separate games one experience with one character? That sounds like a bloated mess.

Skyblivion is just TES4 in the Skyrim engine, you won't be able to go from 3rd Era Cyrodiil to 4th Era Skyrim. TTW is more for stability's sake than anything else, it's better to play F3 through TTW even if you never intend to visit/play New Vegas than to play actual vanilla F3.

>Morrowind is the least fun to mod
Not anymore. There's been a renaissance

>>one day we'll have Oblivion's Cyrodiil, Skyblivion's Cyrodiil, Skyrim's Cyrodiil and Morrowind's Cyrodiil to compare with one another
and not one of them will be good

Oblivion is not better than anything, modded or unmodded. Actual dogshit game people only praise because they're nostalgic for it.

Forget dumb game-sized mods. You play our games. OUR games.

Morrowind mods coming out as of late are really good tho. It helps that Morrowboomers deeply care about the lore and are not just gooner autists that clutter the modding space with shitty anime tiddy mods.
Tamriel Rebuilt alone is incredible and I think has more content than the base game now, with really really well-written quests and cities that are even better than the base game (design-wise).

Morrowreddit.

Oblivion is eh but at least the writing is good, the quests are fun and interesting. Whenever an NPC opens his mouth and starts talking I want to shoot myself in the head. The only thing Skyrim does well is exploration, everything else just sucks.

The Bethesda games are good, except Starfield

>didn't develop a modding community
Objectively false. It used to be one of if not the most modded games of its time before Skyrim came out and everyone moved over to mod that instead because it's more stables and has better graphics. It was a stepping stone to the Skyrim modding community being the size it is.
