I feels like the last game ever made with the old-school design philosophy. It still feels very grounded in a gameplay-first design, including arcadey movement that prioritizes gameplay and feel over realism, it launched in a fully complete state, has deep and challenging gameplay (especially on highest difficulties), was the result of one cohesive vision and a few key auteurs, included a complete online mode day one with zero GaaS bullshit or nickel and diming, has basically zero wokeshit or pandering, has zero accessibility pandering bullshit, was made by a dominantly white and male team, is only about 12 hours long and can be speedran in about 3 hours, etc.

Even the difference compared to TLoU2 is night and day. That is full of subversive messaging, wokeshit, is made by ugly brown troons and bulldykes, is massively bloated, has way more cutscenes and unskippable sections, full of accessibility bullshit, animations are sluggish for the sake of realism, online mode sat in dev hell for years before being scrapped because they couldn't figure out a way to monetize it properly as GaaSlop, the dev team was absolutely massive and outsourced to indians, etc.

But also 90% of people who played TLOU played only TLOU and have a tiny knowledge of great games before then.
There's nothing special about TLOU other than reaching a good synergy between writing/presentation and being a polished game with pretty art.
There are many games before and since which reach just as interesting levels of mechanics, graphics or story in different ways, and there are also much more imho "artful" narratives in video games than this shit. It's the most normie standard "Omg people have feelings and it's like complicated" as far as being a work of art goes. TLOU2 went on to demonstrate that TLOU1 was actually basic af, but that expanded detail and writing on the "world" only went on to prove TLOU as a weak setting. It is literally just "What if California was dystopic???" and it only means anything if you're from LA, or if you're a dad and have basic recognition that "Daughter sad; me sad!" is an effective storytelling trick.
>>
>>745210524
Name these games before TLoU that are so brilliant. You won't because you're an insecure idiot.

TLoU has absolutely fantastic writing and characters that elevate its fairly straightforward and somewhat cliche plot. The gameplay is up there with the absolute best in the genre on higher difficulties.

>TLOU2 went on to demonstrate that TLOU1 was actually basic af
All TLoU2 proved is how much better the writing and characters in TLoU1 were. TLoU1 feels human and relatable, which is why its so appealing. TLoU2 feels like the shoehorned "moral" of the story was created first and everything else was bent and contrived to absurd degreees to fit this forced moral. It also feels like it was designed to be subversive by developers that hate you.

And the pacing, gameplay setpieces, and environmental variety were far better in TLoU1. Not to mention that the animations and controls feel much more arcadey and responsive, prioritizing gameplay over realism. TLoU2 has sluggish controls, very little environmental variety, 90% of the game is just overgrown city blocks, and stealth is the best way to approach basically every encounter in the game, whereas TLoU had a better balance between fighting, stealth, avoidance/fleeing, and unique/gimmick sections.
>>

I find it funny how the tacked on multiplayer in Uncharted 2/3 and TLOU mog the single player. Those multiplayer modes actually embody what the gameplay was meant to be. Creative platforming and shooting for Uncharted, and scavenging, crafting, stealth, and intense encounters for TLOU
>>
the last real game ever made was Deus Ex Human Revolution
>>
>>745210806
ICO, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Uncharted 1~3, The Walking Dead S1, Mass Effect on a thematic level, Half Life 2 (no I'm serious). The Ace Attorney series mogs TLOU in narrative depth, good use of foreshadowing and so on.

A huge problem I had with TLOU is what an anonymous character Marlene is. She's voiced by Merle Dandrige who should've made anyone go "omg, it's Alyx" but she shows up in a portion of the game that is so uninteresting that I mentally fell asleep, and then when she re-enters the story after Joel faints from the water struggle, I was like "...Who was she again???" and these are some of the same symptoms of mediocre writing that I felt playing some of the less good Ace Attorney games, where the writer just isn't doing his part properly to keep the flow of writing and happenings organic or interesting.

Neil Druckmann is a pretty basic writer in terms of scriptwriting. And he took too much credit for TLOU's plot. It was Shawn Escayg who looked at his draft and came up with the right cinematic structure for the game. It's a good game, and it made me feel things, but the more I look back the more I feel like I had already played so many better games, even if TLOU is the height of "CINEMATIC" storytelling.

You go on to pick some of the most random mainstream normalfag safe picks, with zero similarities or points of comparison to TLoU besides simply having a focus on story. Fuck off

>Uncharted 1-3
Bait? Retardation? Zoomer nostalgia?

TLoU is just a straight upgrade in every possible way from Uncharted. Gameplay, setpieces, level design, characters, writing, story are all vastly better in TLoU. The ONLY thing Uncharted does better is cinematic, smoke and mirror sequences where it looks cool but the gameplay depth and challenge is basically nonexistent and it's essentially an on-rail cinematic. And I would consider that a negative, although retards seem to love it.

>ICO
A great game, but is a puzzle/exploratory platformer, that is more about the atmosphere rather than the writing or the characters. And the gameplay is very underwhelming, especially the combat is absolutely terrible and weighs the whole game down.
>b-but it's not about the combat!!
Then don't put it in the game. Because it actively detracts from the experience and is very frequent.

>two literal fucking VNs.
TWD is good, and it's probably the closest of the games you listed to really make you care and relate to the characters. No coincidence it's also a zombie game, I think these simpler plots with high-stress situations really allow the characters and writing to shine through.
Ace Attorney though is nowhere near as good as TWD or TLoU, the writing is honestly not great, the scenarios are absurd, the characters are just exaggerated caricatures, the case solutions are contrived.

It's just bizarre.. are you naming every game you've played? I could name like 2000 games more comparable to TLoU before I'd ever bring up Ace Attorney or even OoT, Half-Life, or ME.

TLoU excels in its writing, characters, gameplay setpieces, environments, free-form combat, and how these all conmect seamlessly to immerse you. Few of those games you mentioned do even one of those better, let alone all of them.
>>
>>745213264
The cutscene with Joel is more ridiculous if anything, he would never leave himself vulnerable like that and the whole scene is really corny just meant as a fuck you to the fans.

Gameplay is solid, but TLoU was definitely better. Feels smoother to play, more responsive, better gameplay setpieces, better pacing, characters actually feel relatable rather than horrificly ugly bulldykes flirting constantly. The game is way too long and the flashback segments kill the pacing.

>ICO, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Uncharted 1~3, The Walking Dead S1, Mass Effect on a thematic level, Half Life 2 (no I'm serious
I've beat every single one of those and TLoU is better. Why can't you just form your own opinions instead of parroting /v/?

Almost no one is going to say any of those games (aside from ME trilogy and maaaaybe OoT if you overlook a lot of the technical aspects) is better than TLoU unless they are very heavily influenced by nostalgia. Even with nostalgia, because I'm not delusional, I can recognize TLoU is better.
>>
>>745207487
Don't forget that it's genuinely very difficult and filtered /v/ to the point they had to lie and call it a cinematic moviegame despite being more action-packed than most shooters.

Guys, you are pathetic. I watched a playthrough of tlou 2 and heard some reviews.

The writing is liquid horseshit. The author clearly cannot conceive of what can make a story interesting other than cheap retarded melodrama. It's also the kind of writing where none of the characters have a shred of humanity or an ounce of personality, the most stale and vile "people" I've had the displeasure of seeing in a work of media.

I cannot judge the gameplay of course, but nobody discussing the game gives a shit about it. The story is undeniably the focus.

I haven't watched tlou1, but considering it's the same writer I'm sure it's also dogshit. I assume people ate it up because of more comforting cliche tropes. These "games" belong to reddit, not here.

This is and has always been cope. Everything people love about the first game were things Druckmann came up with. Not even Bruce Straley disputes he was the primary creative force.

>TLoU really didn't have that at all
I'm wondering what causes this cognitive dissonance.
Are you blind, or are you okay with only a little bit of subversion, or has it been so "normalised" you didn't even notice it?
Girlboss Tess valiantly fighting men on equal footing and sacrificing herself so you can live.
Maria leading a colony of survivals. Literally a frizzy haired black chick leading the resistance, as in almost every other game that has a "resistance" against a vaguely fascist organisation/government.
The two poor, oppressed and persecuted black brothers tugging at your heartstrings.
The gay porno magazines.
I haven't played the game since 2013 so I don't remember everything, but there's probably a lot more.
Don't waste time doing mental gymnastics to explain away how that's akhshually perfectly acceptable lore/world building and not the typical and predictable jewish inversion of reality and subversion.

What exactly is TLoU meant to be subverting? The entire story is literally about the importance of family, bonding, and how the rest of the world doesn't matter to Joel when he has to sacrifice his world (Ellie) to get it.

Marlene is also a boring and forgettable character. Where the hell was she for 90% of the story? You meet her in the "Smuggling" part in the beginning which is the most drony and boring part of the whole game, where the characters talk about macguffins and hunt down no-name characters that feels like a side-quest. Then apparently Marlene is this huge deal at the end of the game.

In hindsight I'm starting to suspect that this game got shilled to hell just because Druckmann is a jew and that's the way our media landscape works.

Well if you really want an answer to the OP, then no. I can't even relate to TLOU "being the final video game". we all know it was this, and the plateau and disappointing result was so trash that it singlehandedly put the entire video game industry and its market economy into flux, and Casey Hudson is still in hiding to this day. Meme difficulty runs are only granted to GOOD games that are FUN to play even on lower difficulties. Capcom got that right with DMC. The base game is fun so you actually WANT to play on the meme difficulties. TLOU is janky, boring dogshit that favors realism(which is just another word for unresponsive controls and awful movement) so it doesn't get to have it's meme difficulty played. Next time make normal mode fun before I waste my time on your boring slop that's only good for one playthrough(if you can stay awake from how boring it is)
