Enemies can counter attack now, player also can counter with a timed block to stagger enemies and the block needs to be aimed, it's based on whether the attack is aiming for the head and body, might change this to be a difficulty setting though since my old man brain was struggling to keep up with it at times.with sound - https://i.4cdn.org/wsg/1786543523952474.webm

>>745210487Do you really think it's worth using ue4 instead of 5? I mean, all you need to do is to not use lumen, nanite and make sure all shaders pre compile during launch. Then you have better optimization than in ue4 with additional features. Several last updates of ue5 has been heavily focused on optimizations and it shows.

Workin' on my Link's Awakening clone, not gonna show anything yet because it looks like hot ass (programmer art, functional but ugly). I do want to get some general feedback for something I'm considering, though - I had a thought that instead of staying true to the Zelda standard of keeping the boss contained in their room, I could make it so that the boss has to be fought throughout the entire dungeon, using various facets of each room to assist in lowering the boss's defenses so that the player can whack them with their sword (so, for example, a giant snake boss guards against all attacks normally, but if it's lured into striking against a rocky part of the wall it hits its head, leaving it stunned and able to be attacked). I think this sounds like a pretty interesting way to give new importance to the dungeon design, but I also worry it might detract from the Zelda-ness of the experience (I've not played Mina the Hollower, but from what I've seen around here people were upset that it doesn't play like Zelda, and I don't want to have the same thing happen with my game). What do you all think? I want to hammer this out early because this directly impacts how I'm going to design key parts of my game.
>>745223932This is an interesting idea, but it has the potential to make dungeons way too hard. Kind of reminds me of the dog area in Animal Well where the whole point of it is to solve puzzles under pressure. It was a fun, difficult segment but the puzzles objectively aren't as hard as the rest of the game because the difficulty comes from being chased. So it's a good idea but it might limit your dungeon design a little. I'd still go for it though, you learn a lot more implementing your own ideas than someone else's.
started again after 10 years of learning the basics of design, Unreal Engine, and Blueprints. (not my field of main study) I’m trying to go for an late 90s or early-2000s aesthetic. Any thoughts?"
>>745223867He is very cute. Is this a Klonoa inspired project?
>>745224195desu you will never get that perfectly with ueThe late 90s and early 2000s used gamma color space, vertex based lightning instead of pixel based one and had different type of filtering, no AA and wasn't based on temporal effects.Try to make something cool looking If you are using ue. Even If you want to make stylized graphics then simply make it cool looking instead of hardly trying to copy some era. Also, first thing you should look for is good gameplay. The graphics comes second.
How do games like the big walk get good shadows from billboard trees?
>>745208491i will not work for free so you can have content for your show
>>745223867looks molestable
>>745218330Brother, you can instantiate much easier - make an enum where key is string and value is scene and then just do enum_name.event.enemy_type.instantiate()
I'm never going to finish my game because what always happens is:>work on game obsessively>something doesn't really feel right >try brainstorming what to cut/fix/change to make the game actually good>expirements fail and feel disheartened>take "short break" because burnout>short break ends up actually being extremely long>get new idea on how to "fix" the direction of the game>start working on it obsessively>realize actually this new direction sucks too>rinse and repeat
>>745224974if it helps that happens a lot in some studios that produce some top tier stuffiirc moana's original screenplay was nothing like the movie, for examplethe problem i'd say is going on an isolated schizoid spiral, you probably need a few testers
>>745224430Any suggestions for UE? I don't have time to learn another engine. For example, there's a guy who is building an N64-like game entirely with UE5 by using baked shadows, disabling all useless features like Nanite and Lumen, and using 64x64 textures. Also, a lot of renders from the '90s like the ones from Rareware have dynamic shadows and basic reflections.
>>745221736Looks cool, dude. Is the multiplayer campaign separate from the main story, or will there be some cross-over where it's required to play both the main solo campaign as well as any multiplayer missions in order to see everything?
>>745220680BART WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING WITH MY TABLET DEVICE?!
>>745225193these basic reflections were done by heavy cheats and dynamic shadows were heavily limited.Anyway, as I said, you should at first make compelling gameplay in a genre that's popular and will have potentiall to sell well. Once you have that done, start thinking about graphics. Some genres likes specific art styles while other ones prefer different ones, they don't blend. You can't make a old-school looking game and slap any kind of gameplay onto it thinking it will sell equally. If you don't know what kind of game you want to make, then start with market research. Find some niche game that has significant amount of reviews, but they are mixed or worse. Look what you can improve and only then start working on a gameplay.
>>745224287YEP! Gonna make it have some fun platforming and expand on combat a bit more. Need to wrap up my first project then ill get started, just wanted to make some ideas for character.

Aside from some quest code enhancement I am on the backend working out the combat animations and system, since you guys want to see more. I am also working in tandem on the first transformation again and I have already built the new hud icon with separate materials so it changes and glows when at 100% and will glow when activated.Im also working on fixing the equip and unequip animations along with the models so the armor wont stretch weird any longer. The boss weapons will have special abilities that do game breaking things too. Lots of ideas but only so many will make it.
>>745228496Yeah, the compression is insane lol. I'll try to sort all that shit out properly in the future.
I'm in the last steps of my Project Zomboid / Tarkov like for android. Deep rpg sim with survival stats, weapon crafting, gun building, stealth, open world exploration (uses the entire world map as the game world utilizing real world POIs as the in game locations), NPCs that can interact with the world, free form chat with NPCs, trading, vehicles and maintenance, real time weather system, addictions, in game radio where radio towers irl broadcast the signal and you have connection according to weather/range/quality of signal, base building... There's a lot.I just finished the final pass of bug fixes/rebalancing as well as adding in the last missing sfx. I can have around ~800 zombies/NPCs on screen at once without any noticable delays. Gameplay is realtime with turn based AP combat, although you can toggle realtime combat via a dev setting. There's also an in game dev console which is pretty fun to play with too. Now, I'm not an artist, so it's sort of lacking in visual assets, but what would I be able to get away with charging for this? Compared to most android games, this feels pretty damn good and full of content. Is $4 asking too much? It's worth mentioning that still screenshots of this game don't really show off the depth of the systems at play.

Just finished doing research on The Dark Crystal and, frankly, I liked it a lot and see why Rare took inspiration from it for Dinosaur Planet and Kameo. Some scenes I particularly liked were when all of the little Podlings were dancing before the Garthim attacked and the Landstriders running to the castle. The Crystal Shard flying into Jen the Gelfling's hand before he shoved it into the Dark Crystal and fused the Skeksis and Mystics together was great, as was the scene of Kira the Gelfling unleashing the animals in the Skeksis scientist's lair that caused him to tumble into the castle core and vaporize his Mystic counterpart. Also, here's a fun fact that I learned at the trivia that happened before the film was played: Kira the Gelfling's language is based on a mix of Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian.Overall, I rate it two thumbs up; will take inspiration from some of the scenes for later parts of The Frydarian Tale.

>>745210043I'm glad to see a protagonist that represents us hotdog enjoyers but the screen shake on hits is waaay too much. The screen does not need to vibrate with motion on every hit, your hotdog man is animates very well so you don't need all that to compensate like a modern anime fight scene. I would use Bayo as a reference which reserves screen shake for combo enders or special techniques like parrying
>>745225253Everything in multiplayer is explained to be in a Primordian pocket dimension, separated between different realms and times ranging from the past to the present that the Primordians know of; that's why you have arenas based on the historic Komagus Village (now the Iron Hundwerks) and the Daimon Spire where the Primordians found the Daimon Cannon before placing it into their archives. When it comes to multiplayer exclusive missions, I think I'll save the idea for Impulsehazard since the story centers around the struggle and camaraderie of mankind while The Frydarian Tale focuses on the adventures of Fygoon himself and having an adventure where only one player is the main character while the others are expendable wouldn't be particularly fun.
>>745230038Thanks for the feedback. You're not the first person to mention the screen shake. I've been dialing it back a bit but it's still pretty intense. You're definitely right though. I'll reserve it for specific attacks instead of just applying it to everything.

hehe re-using yesterday's proggy.Made a simple distance vegetation shader with some fancy things like wind displacement, player displacement, fake cloud shadows. Plan now is to add this to all my existing vegetation assets and make the game prettier. Webm has some 80k blades of grass, didn't drop a frame from 200FPS. Gonna go for a lower quantity and broader area for the actual implementation. Also want to see if I can move trees to the DisplayServer and improve performance, maybe figure out how to add imposters to them.
i dont have my second monitor set up so i wont make new webms for a while but since yesterday:>guards chase the player and enter searching state if you can get away from them>after the search state they go back to normal>if a guard sees a glimpse of you and says "I think I saw something...." and you knock him out before he says "all clear" then another guard will go to their last known location to check it out>if you hide a body in shadows, but an NPC walks over them, they find the body>if you complete a level, and a body was hidden along a guard's patrol route and that guard is still conscious, then that body will get found and lower your score for the leveltheres a few more things that are still a secret. >>745229031ive never played a phone game, so idk how the pricing works for that (my phone is from 2018 so i dont think i can even play games haha)but if your not an artist, you should check out itch.io or even the unity asset store for sprites you could use.even if its a good game, a lot of people will skip it just because it uses programmer art.>>745228916looks good anon, but i think you should make the armor suit more metallic looking>>745231609you can get some good feedback. also, i dont know if its just me or if other people have this to, but any time i've uploaded a new webm to one of these threads, i immediately notice everything wrong with it.if i'm just making it and not uploading, i might not notice. so even if i dont get a (You) for a post, i'll still think it can do better just by putting it out there.for me these threads are like shouting into a void and sometimes it'll help, other times i'm left staring at my own mediocre reflection. win-win.
>>745228671Looks sick nasty
>>745231609posting progress is the best way to get feedback and feedback is golden. If I'd never posted here my game wouldn't be half as cool and I'm thankful for every single (You)
>>745234907ywc*kisses (You)*
>>745234452>so even if i dont get a (You)People dont give you (You)s because you say you're progressing but post the same 2-3 webms for a month at a time. I want to SEE progress, not read a checklist of what you say you've done.
>>745234987>spoilerkinda gay, but still appreciate it :3
>>745235270be kind to shader schizo, he's harmless and posts cool stuff sometimes

>>745235808That pose looks like ass. No wonder, since it was made by some Twitter dweeb who only makes throwaway models based on anime trash and will crash out when someone calls them out for being a phony.THIS is how you pose.

>>745235913It's pretty obvious to anyone with a brain that you're a schizo. Also, I agree with the other anon suggesting that reposting the same webm is no different than avatarfagging. If you don't have updates to share, then all you're doing is taking up precious thread space.
>>745235913anon your shit is very cool and you are the real shader wizard. Like holy shit just look at that skybox, it's so cool
>>745236357Why are you like this?
Any anons making anime games?

>>745233846I have some multiplayer ideas and am never gonna make a multiplayer game (trying to build and maintain a player base, hosting servers, dealing with cheaters and anticheat... sounds like hell) so would be happy to see them stolen. Here's one>randomised shooterTake an existing moderately complex, fairly slow, two team, slightly asymmetric FPS such as counter strike.Randomise as much as you can every match (or even every round) so that the focus is moved away from learning maps and keeping up with the meta and more towards thinking fast and adapting to new circumstances.Maps have a shitton of variations>door is sometimes open and sometimes closed>road is sometimes blocked by rubble>visibility from a rooftop is sometimes perfect, sometimes you can barely see shit due to fog>alleys and vents are sometimes great shortcuts, sometimes dead endsSimilarly, weapon attributes are randomised.Sometimes the sniper rifle is uselessly weak, sometimes the pistol is the best weapon in the game. Sometimes grenades are wildly OP, sometimes they're non-existent.i call it: Think Fast

>>745233914The core of hentai games are the illustrations and sadly i'm no artist. The crab mini games sounds funny though.>>745236195I might actually create a design document for a game like this. There is a big need for a game like that not being gatcha. I can't promise I will make it something like this, because like I don't know how to draw, but might do the same thing blue archive did contracting various artist and this might work.>>745236561Already did one for learning.>>745239638All this sounds really fun anon, but I don't have the skill to make at that level of complexity. But I will keep it in mind just in case I have the means to produce something like this in the future.
>>745234101Can you be more specific about this?Like are there specific techniques you want to use, specific effects you want to achieve that Unity/UE can do easily but are hard or impossible with Godot? Most games made with Godot have a simpler graphical style (low poly or whatever) but as far as I can tell this is mostly because it's popular amongst solo devs, small teams, jams, etc and they want to keep the scope manageable. If you do want fancier stuff like SSAO, voxel GI, TAA etc then it does seem to support all that.
>take game with definite loop>turn it into a short linear horror game>it's good nowYeah, don't try to build a loop off of a shallow mechanic, regardless of how novel it is on the surface. You'll design yourself into a corner.
Someone in a previous thread mentioned I need more visual feedback when the player shoots an imp. I've added two new types of animations, so there are now three different death animations (one for each way an imp can die).Shoot an imp, and it'll fall forward and die (before, this happened for all imps, regardless of how they died). Deflect its bullet back at it, and it'll spiral backwards. If it's the last imp of the level, and you deflect its bullet, the fairy will shout "This is over!" and the imp will basically be disintegrated by its own bullet. There's also a small explosion animation that plays every time an imp is hit by a bullet.

I can't promise I will make it something like this, because like I don't know how to draw, but might do the same thing blue archive did contracting various artist and this might work.If you do decide to go with this, then I wish you the best of luck, anon. Admittedly I did throw this idea out there because I'm aware that the scale of the project might be a bit too much for a solo dev (at least when I was considering doing this idea and working on the code, writing, and art assets all by myself). Getting other artists would work, but the budget would be exponentially higher unless you find anons who would want to join in and draw cute (and maybe sexy) magical girls for the fun of it.
>>745233836has there even been any The Incredible Machine likes in recent years?
>>7452338462d platformer with pixel art but you trap a hidden AI inside that suffers everytime the player completes the game and gradually give it tools to attempt to prevent the player from doing it again
how do i make good arti tried making art but it wasnt good
>>745245454only working strategy i've found is to spend hundreds of hours making bad art until it turns good
