I finished up disc 1 for the first time after only playing Remake + Rebirth.
And honestly? I think the new games are much better — I don't understand why boomers are claiming the original is Kino.

My issue with the 2 remakes is 140% the pacing. The games are so obnoxiously slow and dragged out for literally no reason that it kills any potential fun they could have because it takes way too fucking long to do anything. I like the world and the characters but every time I get a dog shit transitional animation that lasts like 5 times longer than it feels like it should that locks me into it I want to blow my brains out. I genuinely think FF7 Remake and Rebirth would be a contender for the worst paced video games ever made, up there with RDR2.

I don't think we'll find common ground here because the original FFVII was always kind of convoluted and a massive production. If anything we learned as soon as FFVIII that if they could have then they would have crammed even more FMV spectacle into FFVII.

I don't disagree with the premise you're operating on--as something billed a remake it will obviously be judged for its merits as a remake--but it's my experience from playing them that this is selling them short for what they represent in terms of scope, length, and variety possible in what seems at first glance as a strictly action format, gameplay-wise. Maybe it's just created a weird itch I didn't know I needed scratched with the whole hybrid battle system thing, I don't know. Like the missing link between DQ and SoM, it's a novel format and it's the one thing whose routine implementation is well executed (especially in Remake where encounters are more metered and deliberate). I don't even fully blame >>745239513 , not that I find the pacing bad, but for it to suffer any issues at all such that it does when the original's pacing is so masterful, is no doubts egregious. There is so much more the Remake + Rebirth games have to offer, that I am surprised anyone would suggest to play the original. Heed my warning, do not continue to the original gameplay playthrough. It's all more of the same.

I am waiting on Revelation myself, and suggest you do the same. While the original game does have a full story, from start until end, Remake + Rebirth tells an exciting tale of adventure split into chapters. It is far more digestible, and far more in-depth than the original.

On top of that, there is not any character dynamics from the rest of the original game. You experienced all of the drama and heartbreak already, which is sad because there is very little to begin!!

Remake + Rebirth are the true kino — that is why you are in the clear for stopping at Disc 1. Think of Original as an abridge version, as the wikipedia summary for the true experience.

I liked the storytelling in remake more, but in every other aspect i prefer rebirth. But both games are hella flawed. I feel like it's so easy to fix rebirth. All you have to do is get rid of this checklist open world formula, and the game already gets 90% better than it already is. Rebirth doesn't really allow you to discover anything, chadley tells you what to do so it feels like a chore.
