Does your favorite game have a better story than the best Japanese visual novels? Why not?
>>745219945You already posted my favorite game so I win.
Find me three more obnoxious fanbases, /v/.
What a weird question.
>>745220079Trinity of hrt
>>745219945I've been playing this for the first time and enjoying it.
>>745219945I want to say no because my favorite game isn't story-focused, but visual novels seem awful at storytelling despite that being their entire purpose.
>>745220119>pseud's favorite story game>better
>>745219945Yeah
>>745220287Try playing OP's game first at least so you sound less ignorant when you shit on things.
>>745219945>rick and morty, japanese
I don't believe in hierarchies in high-level storytelling, I think dialogue and variety are what make it beautiful
>>745219945Daru fixed a time machine from the future
>>745220287You have to be tranime weeb to not die of cringe when "reading" them

>>745220389*URRRP* WE GOTTA GO BACK DARU, W-WE GOTTA GET ALL THE RAPING IN WE CAN. WE'RE TIME TRAVELERS NOW DARU! WE CAN DO ANYTHING 1000 YEARS LABMEM SCIENCE ADVENTURES, DARU. EL PSY KONGROOOOOOOOO
>>745220296Faggot non-person. Anthropoid niggers like are not worth listening to.
>>745219945The problem with writing is you don't know how shit it is until you finish then step back for a month and revisit it. You gotta completely clear your head to get a fresh perspective. And then, when you go back over it, you're like "What the fuck was I thinking?"I can't imagine trying to be a writer on a deadline. Forced to turn shit in even though you have a hundred little things nagging at the back of your mind that you're not sure about. But you can't solve the issue without reviewing it from a fresh perspective. God, what fucking torture that must be.These fucking western VNs have the extra layer of horse shit tacked on where they're released a little at a time so you can't go back and fix stuff from content already released that you realize is lame. Fuck all that.
>>745220389Yeah it's kino.

>>745219945Visual novels peaked with SG and we are never getting a vinnie that good ever again.

>>745221748It is impossible to say
>>745219945Disco Elysium mogs that vn.
>>745219945>still no game with a protagonist as based as OkabeWhy did they do this one time and then never again?
>>745221994Guy really maxed out his basement dweller skill.
>>745219945I dropped the anime. The story was so bad it was unbearable, why was every single character so shit?
>>745219945Visual novel are not games and never will be games.
>>745220716>babies first time travel story>kinoTry reading and watching more first.
My favorite game is too good to have a story.
>>745220710This definitely describes a lot of vns and ankme in general
>>745223523Nice try ESL, you lost.
>>745219945depends on how it will end, but of the devil has a good chance of "scaling the wall" and surpassing its inspirations and I say that without an ounce of irony

>>745219945I've experienced better stories in visual novels than non visual novel games. Having said that, Steins Gate is ass
Readingbros, is House in Fata Morgana good?
>>745219945My favorite is Fallout New Vegas so yes.
>>745219945Nope because Based;Gate is peak fiction.
>>745223818Steins gate and Primer are my favorite time travel stories. Everything else feels basic and more of a spectacle. If you have anything interesting to recommend at the level of or better than these two, I'm all ears.
>>745219945Yes. Then again I didn't care for S;G much, at least the anime which is how I experienced it.
>>745219945Reddit series.
>>745219945Okabe is my spirit animal.
>>745228980I thought s;g was kind of just a cheaper knockoff of Donnie Darko personally.
>>745219945El psy congroo.
>>745221748Most unrealistic part of the whole time travel story honestly.
>>745221074Best post in the thread
This will be my goated VN pick. The third one has some insane emotional highs but it's also the one that gets insanely neutered with all the writer's weak points. Subahibi and ML are tied for 2nd and 3rd but maybe it's a bit cheating since I rate Utawarerumono as a trilogy lol
Beta Okabe is the best character. Change my mind.
>>745232458>Donnie DarkoWill check it out
>>745236907Subahibi is a pretentious, shock VN. It's not "bad" but it's not great either. Overrated in my opinion.
>>745237571Naw. Especially if you look into it as a lens of a revisit from the authors original ideas of Tsui no Sora. He revamps the edge sure but it's mostly more of a ground to tell the real story in the later half of the VN. Everyone who read it loved it for schizo IMOI and I'm over here fucking adoring the schizo tulpa romance in Jabberwocky 1 and 2.
EL
>>745228980Edge of Tomorrow isn't more complex but I found it to be a better version of Steins;gate's story with a better development MC and all the highlights of S;G's story without a lot of the stupid things that dragged it down.
>>745220079I can't.
>>745219945KOTOR 2? Yes better than S;G easily.
>>745220079Hollow Knight fans used to be more annoying until Silksong revealed them as posers and they jumped ship, Persona or Fire Emblem should take its place instead
>>745238260>Everyone who read it loved it for schizo IMOII did read it. Yes IMOI was fine but I still thing the entire VN us overrated.
>>745220375Hi OP
>>745219945>the best Japanese visual novelsPic unrelated.
>>745220489It's a time machine he built himself in the future.
>>745238260I really hate later half of the VN I'm curious what you saw in it, the tulpa schizo stuff was so dumb.
>>745230381Occultic;Nine isn't because of that girl with humongous breasts.
i'm genuinely convinced the japanese simply can't write good stories. the only piece of japanese literature i've given any credence is no longer human and even that's just some mentally ill jap trauma dumping through a fictional character.
>>745219945>>745220716Steins Gate would have been better if it ended with Okabe having to let Kurisu go. Giving him the chance to go back and have a do over kind of cheapened the experience. Especially since the anime, he literally says>Life isn't about do overs. For better or worse, you get one shot. Then the next episode he gets a do over to save the world and get his girlfriend back, and all he has to do is shank himself with a boxcutter because this is Japan and that's the most deadly murder weapon someone could possibly carry.
>>745219945Of Course
No, my favorite video game doesn't have a better story than Umineko.
how do i make my vn popular?
>>745245964Try Gore Screaming Show.
>>745245964Japanese stories are fucking insufferable because it's the same VN anime character tropes every time
>reads bottom of the barrel japanese literature aimed at retarded horny teenagers>"japon es cagada cabron jajaja"
Video games are about gameplay. Story doesn't matter and will never. It needs to be serviceable and drive some progression and that's it.
>>745246129The ending really does feel like a cop out but I'd already checked out of the series by that point anyways since forcing Mayuri to die in every timeline already made no sense.
i genuinely don't understand how anyone can find steins gates story and writing interesting after 20 hours of nothing. it's average at best and is mogged by shit liek ace attorney, at least that one uses dated pop culture references sparinglyTWENTYHOURS
>>745251038Not everyone has the IQ to handle both slow buildup and time travel lore sadly.
>>745251279truly the rick and morty of VNs
>>745251457Whatever, you have no argument.
>>745251565struck a nerve huh
>>745251038My trick was cutting that 20 hours over the course of like a fucking year. Worked in the most important way since it steeped me in the characters before the shit hit the fan and didn't drive me insane with too much excessive weebing around
>>745251038S;G is character-driven story disguised as a plot-driven one.I like it, but I sympathize with those who felt it was a waste of time.
>>745252508>a story driven by stale stock harem anime characters
