Why would you play a game made before 2007 on anything other than a CRT if you have one laying around that still works? Laziness to put it back on your table and plug it in? Scared it will blow up or turn red?

I just played through all of the Halo games on my 240Hz 1080p IPS screen and I feel stupid now for forgetting that I have a functioning tube that I could have used for this in the dark.
>>
Post GTX 980 cards don't have VGA and converters are dogshit.

Zoomers are a different breed. I don't know how they can stand the input delay when playing on modern displays.
>>
>>745220850
Who are you complaining about? Most people don't play old games on CRTs because they don't care and/or don't have one.

How do I plug a CRT screen into a displayport?

You can buy a DP or HDMI to VGA converter, it works perfectly fine with my Hyundai on an RTX 3060 Ti.

displayport > hdmi > active hdmi to vga converter
don't cheap out and get one thats powered via the video port on your GPU, get one with its own standalone power supply.

mine was $20 on ebay and works great. Idk the model, but it's a box with an HDMI input, vga + rca output, and a micro-usb power input

>I don't know how they can stand the input delay when playing on modern displays.
The answer is I fucking couldn't after I plugged in my 2003 monitor back in and saw the difference in motion clarity and lack of backlight bleed. Played some racing games and TTT on it before the screen started turning red and I realized I just pushed it through hours of use after it sat in the attic for over a decade. I'll probably settle for Micro LED once this thing croaks if I just don't find another that can last a bit longer.

Is it also related to majority of the catalog as well? Because you faggots just love shitting up every other thread with this.

playing games that were designed to be enjoyed on a specific type of monitor and playing it on some dogshit LCD in the evening is not comfy
>>
>>745221415
I don't disagree (t. have a PVM next to me), but CRT manufacturing is never coming back. So we have to accept that one day it'll be the only way to enjoy these games.
>>
>>745221497
the idea of OP is that it's kind of nonsensical to not use one while you still have it laying around in a functional state, it's got a shelf life so you might as well use it before it breaks

CRTs have always been expensive, and you haven't been able to find one on the street in over 20 years.
>>
>>745221750
>you haven't been able to find one on the street in over 20 years.
There were plenty in 2006. LCDs were luxuries.

>LCDs were luxuries.

>>
>>745221975
Modern poorfags are rocking some $150 chinese tv from Walmart or Amazon, which nowadays might even be 4k. If you just hop on facebook and try to buy a crt now it'll cost you about that much, which for actual poorfags is a lot of money for a luxury hobby.
>>
>>745222023
Displays no longer taking half the desk space and being easy to move around (especially TVs) felt like a futuristic luxury at the time, poor image quality aside. Though the standard has in 20 years increased from 4:3 15'' to 30'' widescreen for desktops and probably 30'' to 60'' for TVs. But at least image quality has improved and they're still flat.

A friend of mine is nearly 40 like me and was telling me recently how he replayed FF7 on his phone after being nostalgic about playing back when we were kids. The difference is we were using CRTs and PS1s with actual controllers back then. It's kind of depressing how somebody can have a glimmer of nostalgia but completely ignore a fundamental part of the experience like using the real hardware.

i agree anon, i still have a 27inch IBM CRT monitor, i have a rtx 2070 which is overkill for the games i play.
my rule of thumb is every game before 2010 should be played on a CRT monitor.
>>
>>745221750
>CRTs have always been expensive
Not when they were second-hand. I picked up my 27" Trinitron CRT TV with matching stand for $20 back circa 2013. It still works perfectly.
>>
>>745220919
There are good converters, mine supports 120Hz, the lag is nonexistent, it has a faster response time than an LCD.
>>
>>745224269
I don't care what hardware you play it on, but I don't know how anyone can play console games with a touchscreen. Even RPGs.
>>
>>745220850
PC monitors don't have built in speakers, vast overwhelming majority of them don't support 15Khz (240p/480i) which means PS2 and anything 5th gen or earlier needs to be ran through something like a retrotink scaler, and any speaker you buy for it needs to be shielded (which drastically reduces your options to basically old PC speakers)
>>
>>745220850
Because they were shit. Even my shit LCD I had in 2007 was better then my 4 CRTs
>>
>>745222906
Yeah it's weird how obsessed some people were with how thin TVs were back then. I remember buying a 51" Plasma TV around 2012 and a friend of mine came over and ridiculed it for being so thick compared to his LED-LCD TV. That Plasma TV was really good though, and it lasted an entire decade.
>>
>>745224863
That alone, combined with the weight was enough to kill plasma despite it being a superior technology. Women are especially bad for buying utter slop just because it has a smaller profile.
>>
>>745220850
>a game made before 2007
Dead Rising was released in 2006 and is literally unplayable on CRT TVs
>>
>>745224756
Yeah, that's what I mean. OK a game like Temple Run is designed for touch-screens, but I can't imagine a game with so many menus et cetera like FF7 working well.
>>
>>745224995
Is it unplayable because of small text, you mean? Kind of weird since when Dead Rising first released the Xbox 360 still didn't even have a HDMI port yet either.
>>
>>745224995
Then why is there one on the front of the box?
>>
>>745220850
CRT monitors seem legit impossible to find now. I can still find the TVs, but nothing for PC.
>>
>>745225264
same in my area
I guess they were a lot less common in the first place, got junked sooner and are very sought after by scalpers
>>
Alot of games support or can be modded to run at higher framerates and resolutions than my Nokia 445 Pro. Yes the motion clarity might be better, but frankly OLED at high framerates is good enough and the resolution and aspect ratio compensates.

Firstly you're fat.

Second OLED solves that problem.

I have one of the top 10 CRTs you could reasonably find back in the day, it's not a white whale the different variations of it were quite popular.
I take it out sometimes, but it's really not worth the hassle just for the nostalgia.

what matters is pixel response times being good and the amount of information you get with higher refresh rates that makes mouse movement feel more responsive and representative

>Second OLED solves that problem.
OLED has all the problems of LCD and Plasma combined, as well as new ones of its own.
It has a life span of about 12 months before they die and have to be replaced.

The biggest problem is they have motion blur, which is a complete and utter deal breaker with it comes to video games.
