I was like that, until I realized that pc building is no harder than playing with legos, except each lego piece is sold separately and inflated to astronomical prices compared to just buying the already handmade set to go. I've been PC gaming for over 20 years, and this latest PC I just got is probably the most powerful I've ever had, and it was a prebuilt. I would have spent an extra grand juggling different part retailers + shipping and tax if I went the custom built route, it just aint worth it nowadays chief.
>>
>>745229172
Is that a cat exclusive thing? For dogs they just draw a small green line on their belly. Seems a bit invasive
>>
>>745228443
PSU's are a non issue, I've been using custom builts forever, and if I had the choice between a great pre-built PC deal and a custom built with expensive part separately, I would go for the prebuilt and just replace anything that might be cheap, which is not really common nowadays, anyhow as most PC parts are fairly standardized now.

>>
>>745228363
You can make a bootable from basically anything down to a phone micro-sd card :(
>>
>>745227386
Yes I've built 4 desktops. My current case has a glass and when I need to remove the dust or change thermal paste I just flip it on the side.
When I do the initial build I just assemble the motherboard + ram + nvme + cpu + paste + cooler in that order before putting it in the case.
It's not that complicated, if you break the glass you're most likely not very good with your hands or doing it for internet brownie points.
>>
>>745229408
It's something only some cultures do, and only rarely for actual pets. It's mostly something done to strays to help control the feral populations. The clipped ear is to help animal control know that they don't need to chase that cat down.

The only thing that really is bad and unnecessary is water cooling. It is a much greater hassle to build, more expensive, more prone to error, more work to maintain, and if something leaks the clean up is going to be a nightmare. And for what? For cooling performance that is not even noticeably better than air, if at all, because the water itself needs to be cooled too. And guess how that happens? With air cooling! So at the end of the day water cooling is just gloryfied air cooling with extra steps. It has it's niches, but gaming pc's aren't one of them. Water cooling is for retards.

tempered glass is especially brittle to any stress or impact orthogonal to its plane
if you ever have to throw out an old shower door, or other big pane of tempered glass, give it a gentle tap with a hammer on its edge to see it burst into a gazillion fragments
plenty of retards tighten down screws holding tempered glass too tight, a penetrating screw through a hole is just asking for trouble because it concentrates stresses into much smaller points, and dragging a case with a pc in it that has rubberized feet across a desk or other surface can make the whole thing vibrate at a resonant frequency and explode
tl;dr: tempered glass is extremely fragile in ways that people dont realize

Nah, I just bought a lenovo legion prebuilt several years ago and stuck in a 1 TB SSD for less demanding games. I wanna switch to linux at some point, just nervous about it and lazy. Paying a little extra to just have everything work is A okay with me. This should last me many years to come as I don't play (most) AAA games. The most demanding games I play are No Man's Sky, Dragons Dogma 2 (2 Dark 2 Arisen HYPE), and World of Warships. I do have a 1440p monitor, but I use it exclusively for my Switch 2, which I do most of my gaming on.

Building a PC is exactly like making a bouquet of flowers.

Yes you can go to the effort of locating the flowers you want, and they would be your flowers so it would have more sentimental value, but they just won't look as good as an assembled set.

I built my own PC to save a buck but it looks hideous and when I have some spare cash I will upgrade with a prebuilt that makes me happy to look at.
>>
>>745238676
honestly not me, i can walk down form the top to the level of logic but then everything falls apart and i cant walk it back up to operations like moving memory around
>>
>>745238778
why not just upgrade to parts that look good when put together? prebuilts aren't some kind of magic, they are just assembled parts
>>
>>745238778
What the fuck are you talking about lmao
>>
I have a sleeper build of low budget parts that punch above their weight, and I should just upgrade the GPU but part of me wants to be financially irresponsible and buy a prebuild with fancy lights instead of doing it myself.
>>
>>745232275
I put together a whole computer for the price of your ram alone less than two years ago and it’s just as fast if not faster than what you ended up with.

Not saying it’s your fault, just that the market is dogshit.
>>
>>745227386
I've been building my own since 2008. Recently I decided to buy pic related. I enjoy it, despite the fans being a little noisy sometimes.

Funnily enough, that's one of the many things holding me back from building my PC. I feel the need to know EVERYTHING about the computer, from the OS to what the components are made of. It's holding me back.

The computer case shields your computer from EM interference and vice versa and having a window negates this effect.
>>
>>745240276
You dont need to know how a computer works on a physical level to build it, just look at all the retards ITT who have "built" one, its literally just popping parts together like legos. The only thing to know is which legos go where
>>
>>745240089
Because they see the FOMO scarcity scam working for all the other component manufacturers so they figure why not

retard, you need a good PSU, not POWERFUL 2000W GIGANIGGA, but good quality
Seasonic saved my ass when retarded contractors fucking shorted the cables outside my house, I saw sparks flying and molten metal falling on the street and I saw sparks going inside the PSU, all my lights flickering and my PC didn't even turned off lmao

I wish I did too, but my R7 was literally 50% off (like right around 100 bucks) a few years ago during black friday, so I just took it. It's an amazing case, and the glass panel hasn't busted yet. I am extremely careful with it though.

The one where anything under 10nm is a fucking lie, and we're just optimizing transistors to occupy less space, and that requires a shitload more money and time and manufacturing steps.

do you not understand? No one is chasing down feral strays to check them for microchips. A clipped ear doesn't hurt them and lets animal control know from a distance that this cat has been sterilized so they don't need to worry about it.

I have simply accepted that the issues with my new motherboard are too much trouble to either spend weeks unsuccessfully troubleshooting or risking something breaking by replacing it entirely. But man, the previous mid-range PC I built had no issues and booted in seconds, while the new one's RGB controls don't work (can't be turned off), sometimes just shuts off all of its wireless capability randomly, and consistently takes at least a minute to get to the BIOS screen (monitor always automatically goes back to sleep mode before booting completes)

I like having one glass side so I can see how much dust is inside or if a weird noise is something getting loose. But I just have the glass side pointed at the wall so I don't have to see it if I don't want.
I'm actually quite happy with my setup right now
> base isolated plank of wood so the rubber legs don't drag on the desk
> cables mostly out of view, will be nailing some hooks to the back of the desk so they don't hang down as much
> 40 year old footrest still giving me something to kick when angry
> Premium gaming 2x4 on the floor ensures ample air flow out of the back of the case and makes cleaning the desk a simple matter of blowing things off the back
> conveniently located in the dining room so I can continue gaming while still ostensibly being "at dinner" with nagging wife
>>
>>745246140
Many people do not understand that there is more than one type of glass and assume all glass will hold up to the same stresses. They lay it down on a dirty floor "because I'm gonna clean it later anyways" and then get surprised when the scratches cause it to shatter.

They manage cat population using a method called TNR (trap neuter release).

After they catch and neuter a stray, they clip the ear so that the people trying to manage the cat population know not to try to trap that cat again. So if you see an indoor cat with a clipped ear like that, it means they were probably a stray adopted from the pound.

Some places used to do a tattoo instead but mostly everyone has switched over to ear-tipping.
