I actually enjoy western mechas. Japanese mechas all look the same to me. Just look at the one in the OP. He could be from code geass, or evangelion, or whatever else, and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Meanwhile western mechas are always unique, practical, pragmatic and recognizable.

The west doesn't have "mecha", they don't understand Gundam, they only think of them as vehicles to pilot.A mecha is a suit of armor, and it's about 2 warriors having a duel. The Mecha is not a vehicle, it's a metaphor for a skill based weapon like a sword, and it's only as powerful as the pilot, a shit mech can defeat a better mech if a better pilot. It isn't made to move realistically, it's made to move like a human fighter. The west will make a mechical walker type they think is "better" because it's realistic but nobody in the west will care because it lacks any metaphor that a Japanese Mecha has.

Mobility is actually kinda overrated, unless you are under the command of an officer who is really good at military maneuvers. T-72s were also designed for mobility over protection, which isn't doing them any favors in the Ukrainian stalemate. T-34s are at least known more for being well armored during the early war and very disposable during the late war.
