I seriously consider this to be the greatest game of all time.
The only caveat is you understand its genius mainly if you have played at least MGS1, but ideally both Metal Gear 1 and 2 as well.
>>
>>745331367
Fair. MGS2 is peak and the only Metal Gear game I have cleared numerous times. It's that good. The Substance content was even more choice.
>>
The genius of being a.... remake (MGS1 was one as well)...? Woah....
>>
>>745331367
It's like 2 hours of gameplay and about 6 hours of talking and cutscenes
Once you are done with Tanker and the bombs in Plant it just becomes a boss rush more or less with several hours of story
assuming you're not shit at the game
>>
Your opinion is objectively correct. Too bad that people with low IQ hail the extreme mediocre and bland MGS3 as best MGS, but that's how things go sadly, retarded people are always the majority
>>
>>745331367
>The sequel is best enjoyed when you e experienced what came before
Wow. What an incredible insight.

I love that zoomers are so fucking retarded that they'll announce that water is wet.
>>
>>745331367
>I seriously consider this to be the greatest game of all time.
so do most people
it's on the majority of top 10 games of all times lists out there
>>
>>745331367
MGS1 is literally required if you're going to play MGS2
>>
nobody talks about how the turn the game off scene was a direct mg1 reference
>>
>>745331367
I like it too
>>
>Moviegame

>>
>>745331697
Doesn't MGS2 include a detailed written account of what happened in MGS1 you can read in a menu?
>>
>>745331528
Most people don't play games like a retarded speedtrooner
>>
No, it's just MGS1 you have to play.

Colonel AI literally reads the MGS1 script verbatim at several points, and not just Campbell's lines but Mei Ling and Naomi too. Every single encounter and story point has something about it that reminds you of MGS1.

...because the game is a gigantic hate letter to MGS1 fans who wanted Snake to return for a sequel acter Kojima finished his story.
>>
>>745331893
It won't hit the same.
>>
>>745331905
Speed running is around 1h10m
The point is once Tanker and the bombs in Plant are done, what the fuck is left outside of bosses?
Maybe 10 minutes rescuing the president, another 10 minutes hetting Emma then what, 5 minutes in the cell and then endgame boss rush
>>
>>745331979
Idk MGS1 hit fine for most people even though nobody in the west played MG2 and even fewer played the original MG1 or the NES demake
>>
>>745331367
MGS1 and MGS2 is the only good MGS in the series. Especially Fukushima was involved in the codecs and being the guiderail for these two. The rest went to shit starting with 3 then the PSP monsterhunter-esque MGS shitwalker comes in and further ruin MGS.
>>745332020
You're literally running in circles describing not-speedrunning-but-yeah-speedrunning, fucking troon.
I remember spending lots of hours fucking around the game messing with soldiers and hidden stuff, yeah these exists you troon.
>>
MGS "games" are movies with really janky braindead gameplay here and there to pad the runtime. It barely qualifies as a game.

I wish we could go back to the internet of 2001, when people could stay on topic and discussed stuff in good faith. Why are you people so hellbent on shitting up the internet?

Reminder that MGSHDFix fixed every single graphical issue introduced since the original Sons of Liberty and pressure sensitive controls are coming back, making it objectively the best way to play the game

Infinite Heaven at the very least. Even disabling the intro for missions alone makes the game actually good

I shared your love for it until I replayed it recently.
Love the story still but there's barely any room left for gameplay, and what there is, is too simplistic.

play on extreme. the stealth is very tough and bosses require mastery. the gameplay is npt simplistic at all it's very deep and detailed and you can do the vr missions to experience more
>>
Of course not.
That's Snake Eater
>>
>>745332047
MGS1 is cinema, and first hand experience is required to grasp the true quality of MGS2.
MG/MG2 can easily be substituted with the brief summaries that are included in MGS1 and nothing of value is lost.
>>
>>745331893
Not the same. You're suppose to get a weird uncanny feeling of deja vu throughout MGS2, which only works if you've played 1
>>
Big shell sucks its just two gray and orange hexagons

No thanks, I don't want a virus
>>
>>745331367
It's my favourite but I replayed it recently for the first time in decades and I cannot overstate how SMALL it is. The plant is really just ten or so tiny rooms with some one off outside sections.
It's saved by its stellar gameplay and interactivity and genuinely good story but there really is very little feeling of progression through the game. Everything important is condensed in the last hour from meeting Emma to the end. The rest is of little substance or importance.
>>
>>745332636
it's good but doesn't stop the port from fuckin crashing right after the harrier fight, happened like 3 times to me
>>
>>745332339
The irony here is that MGS2 has the worst gameplay of all the main MGS games and is therefore the worst game among them. Its level and camera are total dogshit. Even PW plays better and there's no reason to fucking play PW when TPP does everything PW does better.
I guess it's too much to expect anyone who plays the most famous stealth game series to actually care about stealth gameplay
>>
>>745333330
you probably just fucking suck ass at it, the stealth is immaculate it's one of the best stealth games ever made. it's consistent as fuck and difficult
>>
>>745333330
No game in the series let's you experiment and fuck with the guards as much as 2. 5 comes close but it's less intimate than what you can do in 2.
>>
I'm excited to play MGS4. Haven't played it since it came out and I remember it being kino as fuck.
>>
>>745333457
It's garbage because of its level design more or less forcing you to ignore actual stealth entirely. There's nowhere to actually hide, and even in the few places where you can hide, there's no point. Just headshot the enemy and keep going. Even MGS1 was better because its levels were more mazelike and its more top down camera and constant radar allowed you to run past a lot more shit than MGS2 does
>>
>>745333763
>There's nowhere to actually hide
Are you retarded? The game is filled to the brim with lockers, tables you can hide under, the actual fucking boxes too?
Not to mention all the cool interactive elements, like shooting the fire extinguishers.
>>
>>745333763
yeah you're terrible and haven't actually played the game enough. you can't just headshot everyone because if you take out a captain they will send reinforcements when he doesn't report in. the levels are filled with nooks to hide in and the patrols are very cleverly timed, there's a ton of room for mastery.

>>745334073
NTA but the level design in 2 with how the patrols are, are pretty bad imo
That said, I never really felt like MGS was meant to be stealth, even Kojima admitted it was more about tactical espionage action and was the tagline (aka less slow stealth like most stealth games and just rushing in and out, hence top rank being a speedrun too)
That said, I did like it on EE since some of the sections were a fun puzzle
I both hate and love getting to Ames in EE
>>
>>745334073
>you can't just headshot everyone because if you take out a captain they will send reinforcements when he doesn't report in
Which do not matter since the levels are tiny and you will be out of the loading zone before they ever arrive

>the levels are filled with nooks to hide in
which are located nowhere near the actual normal guard routines. The designated hiding spots only matter if you actually get caught. Pretty much all of them are placed away from the normal guard patrols, encouraging you to just headshot guards because there's no real other option to get through undetected,
>>
>>745334207
>NTA
You're the anon and you are scared to admit it you little fucking bitch
>>
>>745331528
yeah and that 2 hours of gaming is so good that the game is worth playing infinitely to get better ranks or mess around with all of the cool gadgets, so you end up getting way more hours than some 70 hour jrpg that you'll drop 30 hours in and never touch again.
>>745331905
in fairness, as retarded as that anon's argument is, metal gear solid and resident evil are the two series that cemented the concept skipping cutscenes to get the best ranking. you just don't do that on your first playthrough.
>>
>>745331367
Its my favorite game for sure. I recommend having both the original ps2 version & the substance ps2 version. The original has certain effects that the Susbtance version broke, while Substance of course has lots of fun and challenging missions.

>you can't just headshot everyone because if you take out a captain they will send reinforcements when he doesn't report in

Not even that, but you can literally shoot the radio really fast then hide the body too.

it's crazy that the original ps2 version with a ps2 controller is still the only way to get pressure sensitive firing on weapons like the AK.
>mfw it's required to do some of the VR missions in the master collection
>>
>>745334313
>cool gadgets
What gadgets?
AP Sensor?
What else is there? The box, the cigarettes?

There's not much to do in MGS2 since it's primarily a speedrun game according to Kojima. That's ultiamtely the problem. Like the whole 'you can do this shit but it's pointless' was put out in the demo he showcased. Ice melts, you can shoot a fire extinguisher to blind the enemy to escape?

Ultimately the MGS series (at least 1-4) is primarily about getting the fuck in and beating the mission as fast as possible according to Kojima

I will admit that if you were a poor child growing up and couldn't afford a lot, that yes, you would be replaying it so it does have replayability if you are poor or practicing for Foxhound

Unless you're going for all dog tags in which case 100% the game is a valid reason too for multiple replays
>>
>>745331367
Is Steam version good?
>>
>>745334469
>according to Kojima
Never said that
>>
>>745334469
metal gear solid 2 is legitimately one of the most fun action game on the ps2 if you don't care about going loud
>hobbling enemies with the AK
>breaking through riot shields with heavy machine guns
it did so many things that you didn't even bother trying because you read some online interview where they probably mistranslated kojima anyways
>>
>>745334469
Lol, this. I spent the entire game hiding in a box and jumping out for an easy headshot or hold up when a guard walked by. Every single room. And it's brainless as shit since they never patrol in groups and are spread out far apart.
>>
there was never a better plot twist in gaming
>>
>>745334657
The plot twist is obvious as fuck doe
>>
Are the HD Collection versions drastically different from the originals? I know Konami has a tendency to fuck up HD collections
>>
>>745334606
>breaking through riot shields with heavy machine guns
not in MGS2
That's the only response you're getting since you didn't play it
>>
>>745334645
Try it on EE and it won't work as well - especially in I think Strut D has the guard check in
but if you kill the reinforcements, they stop coming. Welcome to MGS - a Kojima game

MGS1 just shamelessly rips off most of its major plot points from MG2, but because gaijins hadn't played that game it felt entirely fresh for them. If you played MG1 & 2 before MGS1, you'd probably feel underwhelmed if anything.

MGS2 also rips off major plot points from MGS1 (and by extension MG2), although that's literally the entire point and the narrative is built around the game being derivative from the very start.

the only mod I used was making every research instant
I can't imagine playing the game without it
>>
>>745334463

>>
>>745331367
MGS1 2 and 3 all work as complete games in isolation but are enhanced by additional context
5 however, the best game in the franchise, only functions within the context of everything leading up to it, it's like an inherit anti larp mechanic
if you can't understand the genius of 5 it's a clear indicator of lacking critical information
>>
>>745333330
MGS2 was by far my most played PS2 title. In fact, it was the only game I played when I didn't have Internet or even a telephone for a year. The gameplay is second to none. It's infinitely replayable. MGS3, 4, and PW are a massive step backwards after MGS2. I remember playing through MGS3 when it first released. I was so excited. One playthrough and I was done with it. I ran through it a few times years later and it's just so lame to even play. You have to basically roleplay instead of playing the game because otherwise you just stand in one spot and shoot every enemy that pops up for half the missions.
>>
>>745334469
You would be right but MGS2 has dogtags.
