Balance is horrible (though still better than Melee, but that bar is very low) because it's trying desperately to be Melee so the only characters worth playing are the Melee ripoffs and everyone else is just gimmick characters whose gimmicks do nothing but add extra steps between them and the Fox gold standard. There's an overemphasis on mechanics that make the game less about fundamentals and more just a hundred knowledge checks a minute about its needlessly-convoluted engine which tries to out-Melee Melee. A small playerbase made up entirely of sweats means you have to be okay with getting blown away 3-0 in under 90 seconds for the first 100 hours of playing before you start reliably standing your ground. And without going into detail about shielding+lack of whifflag+floorhugging, until you get your opponent above 60% or so, the whole game is about fishing for grabs.It's Early Access in name only and even the devs have admitted as much. They released the game in an incomplete state because they ran out of budget. Maybe in a couple years the game will be more complete and have a bigger playerbase with console, but now, I'd avoid it.

He's pretty balanced, and nowhere near the level of Melee Fox; he also has a concrete ceiling that other characters with more complex mechanics don't have, even if that ceiling is easier to reach because of how he functions. He's less like Melee Fox and more like Melee Sheik or Ultimate Palutena - a fundamentally strong character who does well while the game is young, but who will probably feel his limitations more and more over time.

The Tokon UI is so good- nice looking health and super gauges- hit information in the corners of the screen- combo meter a good addition and not intrusive- damage numbers up near the health bar- character color is visible on the assist portraits so you know who is playing the orange black panther
