The japanese are allergic to controversy. They would never ever ever do anything that they think actually would have any chance of ever upsetting someone in Japan even a tiny amount. If they depict a temple they'll make sure it's generic and fictionalized. If they're going to reference a religion they'll only reference dead religions or ones where the worshippers are fine with being referenced (ie Christianity and Jewish mysticism)

People always talk about Tokyo having a "soul" and "great atmosphere". I think those people just havent travelled much. Tokyo felt utterly generic, it felt like it didnt have any identity at all. Just a place with stuff in it. Cool stuff yeah, but travelling between the cool stuff is boring as hell. Euro cities like Vienna, Paris, and Prague mog it atmospherically

Whites are time stuck low morals apes compared to japs in modern day.
>>
>>745378156
Tokyo is a nightmare. The few tourist towns/districts seem ok, but the city is oppressively depressing. What makes it worse is that Japan has a lovely countryside but is not known for that. But I guess city slickers can only have one destination.
>>
>>745378156
Tokyo has tons of life happening right now, it's not a monument to how much better their culture was hundreds of years ago

Paris is a shit hole now, Vienna is nice and Prague is actively trying to pretend it's still 1850

Tokyo is great because it's a very functional, very active modern metropolis with a space for nearly every hobby or interest you could possibly imagine, all while being shockingly affordable for a 1st world city

Europeans are coasting on heritage. No one is suggesting they should bulldoze their precious mausoleums and whatnot, but that they have nothing to show for their latter days. Europeans don't even build cool shit on the side, that's how lame they are. Thank God for Asians.

Usually it's just kind of cool. I live in San Diego and the only games I remember being featured were Midnight Club 3 and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Underground. In Midnight Club 3 it looked vaguely like downtown but nothing jumped out other than the USS Midway and the surrounding dock which was cool. In THPSU it was just Balboa Park with ramps. They actually could have done more with it, I wasn't a fan of this level personally. I don't know about others but I always hoped when I heard about it being featured in videogames that it would somehow have the mall I used to hang out at.
>>
>>745379150
I don't think you realize that Yurop has been rebuilding a bunch of their heritage architecture since WWII (alongside modern architecture). Former soviet countries have been doing this a lot in the past 30 years since they mostly couldn't afford to do it under communism. In the past 20 years we've gotten Dresden's city center partially restored including the Frauenkirche, Frankfurt's new old town, Potsdam's restoration, Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Warsaw reconstructed a huge chunk of their old town.
For the most part, it wouldn't make sense to decide to plop down a large MAD or Hadid architectural project in some ruins straight in downtown when your city still primarily consists of old-style homes surrounding said ruins, and when your street grid is old and tight. It's also often difficult to do large modern projects like that because large buildings need very deep foundations for large supports, and since many European cities are ancient, it means that you can't just go in and bulldoze and dig everything without care, but often need to carefully excavate and extract heritage objects.

But you've also gotten projects like Hamburg's Philharmonie and HafenCity, Lyon Confluence, City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, MAAT in Lisbon, Metropol Parasol in Seville.

In the far less populated Nordics, you have very large stock of modern architecture projects such as the Kaktus Towers or Opera House in Copenhagen or Karlatornet in Gothenburg. But as a whole, the Nordics have an unspoken social code of not bragging or flashing wealth, so they're not really tempted to create stand-outish projects in the Saudi or Chinese sense.

(1/2)
>>
>>745379150
>>745380453

So it does exist, but it won't be as grand as say, China. And that's simply due to land constraints, a balanced focus shared with heritage architecture as well, and the desire by residents to construct buildings that fit into the space available for them to be constructed (there tends to be laws for example designating that if a lot is available for contruction in X old town, you have to follow certain guildlines so that your building architecturally matches the surrounding buildings — or, there might be entire neighborhoods with height limits to not cover sightlines to say... the Sagrada Familia or another landmark).

Not it's not. Art Nouveau was all about incorporating natural designs into the architecture with lots of rounded edges and curves which started back in the late 19th century. Art Deco is dynamic and geometric, embracing the modernizing mechanical industrial world.
>>
>>745380792
Also should add the classical elements Art Deco took from was from Egypt and the ancient Assyrian and Babylon when Orientalism was on the go and everyone was obsessed with those ancient cultures in the deserts.

I have never once felt this. There is tons of nature even in the heart of Tokyo to experience, you have no idea how fucking bad most massive cities are. Compared to LA walking around Tokyo is like fucking Shangri-La. But you are right about the countryside. That's good though, it leaves much of the nature untouched. I'm simply more worried of the depopulation of the countryside as the city pulls more and more to survive.

My point of comparison were european cities. Even at their worst the sprawl isn't as overwhelming as Tokyo.
But I obviously agree on LA, also been to more and they all have another problem that's different from Tokyo and that's obviously the car. I dunno, I like where I live, call it old people's refugee but I don't think I'll change my view easily. I really feel like the way we've separated ourselves from the natural world is completely unsustainable. Doing relatively easy shit to integrate with nature can have such profoundly positive effects but Americans can't even figure out that having actual shutters on your windows would block the heat energy from the sun getting into your house. Houses are built by the thousand with literally no thought at all paid to which side faces the fucking sun, let alone doing an hour of napkin engineering to capitalize on winter sun while minimizing summer exposure.

You're not making any new culture. You're not trying anything new that competes with Asia and that doesn't just make you more of a laughingstock every year. You prove with every passing decade that all of your best genetics either left for America or died in the world wars. Everyone of you that's left is seen as worthless by your ruling class and is why they are actively working to replace you. Because you're all a bunch of feckless, insufferable sheep. You're dead weight, and you can't compete. The laurels you sit on were earned by better men.

It incredibly comfy. Sometimes theres a few boring episodes, and one I would say really bad episode in season 1, it was so bad the streaming site I was using at work skipped the episode entirely and I didn't notice. But it holds up really well, all the characters are great or grow into great characters. Once it picks the pace up in season 2 it only gets better and better, with the humor being great and not over the top. RDA adlibs a lot of lines which always get a good laugh once you start picking that up.

>SGA has fans for sure
I'm one. It's a case of the highs being just as high as SG-1, but the lows being much, much lower. There's a definite imbalance in the casting with some characters going woefully underused (and some just getting no good writing at all despite their apparent importance to the setup), and some being forced to carry too many episodes. You really need to like McKay and Shepard for Atlantis to work for you. Much like SGU the show squanders its premise (stranded in a different galaxy, surrounded by ancient mystery tech), though it doesn't do so quite as quickly as Universe did with the fucking stones.

Still, lots of interesting storylines, kino moments, great aesthetics, cozy atmosphere. Atlantis itself starts to feel like home and a respite for the viewer as much as for the main characters. If SG-1 were a strong 9/10, Atlantis is a respectable 7/10. Both shows ooze sovl.

That's the same when you live in any country with a uniform architectural style. But you still can't not admit that it's pretty, unlike if you like in the US and are surrounded by cheap boxes for buildings.

NTA. Visited plenty of European countries and cities, live in Yurop, and the Paris is kinda shit. The city is still (mostly) pretty, I mean it had been for a long time one of the prettiest cities in the world, but the population is nasty.

To be fair, I went in 2015? So during the start of the migrant crisis.
The entire car ride from de Gaulle, every single building was slathered in spray paint. That was the first thing that stood out to me, because it wasn't just one building, it was practically every one surrounding that main road. When I finally got in the city—I don't recall which arrondissement we entered— There were literal roads filled with tents and massive piles of garbage from the refugees living in them. And I truly mean mounds of garbage. I'm sure that doesn't exist anymore, but those refugees no doubt got housed somewhere in Paris.

Beyond that, the arrondissement we entered, you could tell the buildings were supposed to be pretty, but they looked partially run-down. Ragheads were sticking their heads out of windows, ethnic and arabic signs and shops everywhere. Vibe was completely low vibrational. Finally make it past that and into the prettier center. Go toward the courtyard and it was a good hotel, but right outside was a homeless man how decided to call a corner in the courtyard home and it smelled of piss.

Put my stuff in the hotel room and leave to check out the city. Leave the courtyard and first thing I see on the street corner is a gypsy and gypsy child begging for money. The second nobody's around, the gypsy pulls out a phone more expensive then mine. The gypsy was asked to leave the corner by a policeman, and I watched the gypsy get up and the second the policeman left, go back to the corner and sit back down. My first lesson on how incompetent police are in Yurop I guess.

Anyway, beyond that, I was almost scammed and pickpocketed by gypsies trying to enter the Louvre. An ethnic driver offered my family a ride to the Eiffel Tower and stated a price outright, but once they arrive hiked up the price and tried to scam my family. Blacks in front of the Eiffel Tower were harassing my mother. When I went to Disney with my father and younger sibling, the metro stopped working so we had to go above to a literal sea of thousands of people (really bad public transportation issue these days) and was shocked to see a literal sea of black faces on part with or probably even worse than Atlanta.

I have a high tolerance for bullshit, but I quickly realized why the Japs get their hearts crushed by the reality of Paris. It's coasting purely off of it's beautiful heritage architecture and that's fine, but the people in this city are atrocious. The white Parisians are fine, but they're not quire so friendly either so that doesn't help.
>>
>>745399245
Factoid for foreigners: Paris, during the summer months is not populated by parisians, because they all left on vacation elsewhere, but by tourists rich enough to take a trip to expensive Paris. That being said the rich parts of the city are way prettier all year round, assholes or not they sure take care of their urban image.
Paris is comfy, a chilled coffee and a gourmet sandwich at the café is comfy. But we've got to get rid of the cars.
