Do you think the next Nintendo console will be the Switch 3 or will they try and do something different?
>>
>>745436928
I legit don’t know where they can go console wise outside of continuing the switch brand
>>
Why is it worth discussing? The Switch 2 isn’t even a year old yet and we have another 6-7 years at minimum
>>
>>745436928
All the Switch 3 needs to be
-bigger screen
-larger battery
-longer joycons with grips
-with analog triggers
-automagically soups up Switch 1 and 2 games with no paying extra

if you disagree you are simply a faggot

Dude, haven't you heard of AI? You'll either be dead or living in some digital utopia. Nintendo won't even make games anymore except symbolically. You can whip up your own Zelda roguelike FPS in a day that'll be better than anything Nintendo ever made by 2031.

There also won't be any new gaming consoles, AI will steal ALL of it, so you'll play on PC or Switch 2 forever.
>>
>>745437074
I can see them doing something like that but only in addition to the switch
>>
>>745436928
Probably Yes, iwata is dead and miyamoto is retired
>>
>>745437110
Also, AI can just optimize Switch 2 games to be as powerful as Switch 4 games, so yeah, enjoy your eternal console before AI comes after your atoms in 2034.
>>
>>745436928
The only way Nintendo will ever move away from the Switch is if it flops. And that's looking pretty unlikely.
>>
>>745437074
I mean, the Meta Quest 3 is around the price of the Switch 2.
The Switch 3 will probably be $600.
>>
>>745437074
Nintendo never got on the VR bandwagon and they won't do it now that VR is dead.
Not to mention Nintendo views VR too isolating.
>>
>>745437308
idk I could see it as a continuation of the 3DS technology they invented. Might not exactly be VR, but it would be interesting to be a headset you put cartridges into and you just got a virtual screen inside.
>>
>>745436928
I want whatever they do next, to at the very least have backwards compatibility for Switch 1 & Switch 2 games. Anything that gets in the way of that, isn't worth it.
>>
>>745437145
>in addition to the switch
>>745437295
>The only way Nintendo will ever move away from the Switch

Yea no, they moved away from the wii the best selling console in history.
And gaming handhelds are an over saturated market with many competitors.
In about 2 years you'll be able to buy chink ones for a few bucks, in addition to the new Valve one and all the ROGs etc.

> VR is dead.

VR is in its infancy. The Vision Pro is a game changer, once you experience AR you will never ever go back. It's just technologically not there yet for battery life, size of the headset etc.
>>
>>745437579
>Yea no, they moved away from the wii the best selling console in history.
No, they didn't.
The Wii U was a direct continuation of the Wii and it used every Wii accessory.
When the Wii U flopped was when they moved on from the Wii
>>
>>745436928
I just want real physical games, I'm so tired of all third parties going digital only, that's piracy only for me
>>
It's cute that you think there will be more consoles any time soon.
>>
>>745437767
You had your chance 20 years ago to reject Steam, you didn't.
Now we're here.
>>
>>745437665

how so if it's a completely different type of console? If anything the Wii U is a Switch predecessor.
>>

It literally plays Wii games and you can play Wii U games with Wiimotes. it's not called Switch anything, it's called Wii U.
>>
>>745438158
Go back? I just installed Oblivion off a DVD. Do you even have a disc tray on your fuck ass PC.
>>
>>745437815
You realize people thought the Wii U gamepad was an accessory to the Wii because the Wii U's overall design language was so tied to the Wii and it used every accessory and controller.
>>
>>745437767
I’m bothered by the switch 2 rereleases. They replace the originals as the definitive physical copy, being entirely on the cart, but they want day one prices, and could always do it again for a switch 3. It’s leaving me hesitant to invest as someone who’s new to the platform.

>>
>>745436928
Honestly they haven't reached the full potential of the form factor yet.
For example the dock needs to give additional computing power, as it is now it barely does anything.
>>
>>745438721
That would make it more costly, so Nintendo won't do it.
>>
>>745438783
Nintendo has more money than some small countries they need to burn some of it
>>
>>745436928
They're kinda stuck. They can't make normal homeconsoles anymore since they got beaten by PlayStation pretty much every single time. I think they'll just keep making handhelds with possible gimmicks but you will always be able to connect it to the tv.

I am not sure how you can really argue against this. n64, gc, wiiu didn't just get beaten they got outsold multiple times over. The closest was the Wii but that thing was also the most different compared to the other home consoles which further proves my point that Nintendo can never win if they go back to normal home consoles.

Honestly the dock could benefit from being redesigned into a cradle. While cradled you can have access to game chat on the console screen instead of TV.

Nintendo isn't just an "or" company, with games devoted to just "this group or that group", they're an "and" company. Games for "this group AND that group" and even games for people don't even call themselves gamers yet.

Wii only outsold the ps3. ps5 is likely gonna pass it soon. Also after som digging I found out that the top 3 most sold home consoles are all PlayStations (2, 4, and 1). I expected the 360 to be up there if im honest.

>>
>>745440394
>comparing a handheld to a homeconsole
You need to learn more about gaming. The wiiu was Nintendo's homeconsole (a home console is a system with no portability) and it got beaten badly. It was more than likely the catalyst for the Switch.
>>
>>745437065
>bunch of bullshit no one else has either and nintendos not gonna pay up for

>>
>>745440394
>jumping a generation
fuck off, you bastards didn't bought the Wii U, don't put the Switch on it's place
>>
>>745436928
It's hard to say.
Nintendo likes to innovate with gimmicks but the wider industry doesn't care, they just want a box that plays videogames.
As much thought as Nintendo put into the Joycons, very few games - even first party used them well.

I think they know third parties don't want to make a special version of their games that incorporate Nintendo's gimmicks as that scared them off during the Wii U.

A Switch 3 makes the most sense, the power gap is closing, but Nintendo likes to innovate so idk
>>
>>745441140
Forgot to mention, but there's also the issue with backwards compatibility.
Helix and PS6 are likely going to be backwards compatible, Steam is naturally backwards compatible. It's going to be a hard pill for Nintendo's fanbase to swallow if Nintendo is the only one not doing it because of some weird gimmick AND you're essentially losing 2 generations worth of backwards compatibility on one system.
>>
>>745441326
A digital only system could midigate BC with digital titles. Though no card slot will hurt physical buyers.
>>
>>745441326
Even if Nintendo's next console isn't a Switch, there's no reason it can't be backwards compatible with Switch or Switch 2 games.
>>
>>745440907
I have a Wii U, and are we really going there? Switch 2 has outsold the PS6 and will continue to do so.

there's only so much iterating on the same design can do for you. switch2, while not a flop by any metrics, is already selling slower than the switch 1 was back in its day, the wow factor is always greatest the first time around
I legit don't know what nintendo can do next, the traditional console market is dead, the ps5 and xsex are failing spectacularly and their audience is bleeding heavily onto the superior platform PC, so returning to that formula is a big no go, on the other hand, keeping with the current hybrid console scheme for a third time is risky because I doubt people will be up for the same thing for a third time, the wow factor will be basically inexistant, they'll have to come up with something, to pull something out of their asses in order to innovate and grab people's attention again
>>
>>745441765
that's the idea
>Switch fucked the PS5
and
>Switch 2 will fuck the PS6
>>
>>745436928
it's going to be called the SWiiiTCH
in the same way that "wii u" put "you" into the console name, "i" am part of "swiiitch"

they will show the little joycon icon and then the 3rd i stands next to the two joycons

what exactly this means I do not know, they escorted me out and hit me over the head with a 2x4 before I could read that page of the Big Secret Nintendo Plans Book.
>>
>>745441648
If Nintendo goes AMD instead of nVidia it's possible BC would be impossible outside of emulators.
>>
>>745443490
Sure, but that has nothing to do with what gimmick they'd go with next time.
Switch 3 could use an AMD APU and it'd have this problem, or the 4DS could have an NVidia SoC hand not have this problem.
>>
>>745436928
everyone will ai generate games at home by then
>>
>>745437308
AR. not VR.Glasses that project the game over top the real world. Building off of things like that RC mario Kart game.
>>
>>745436928
They'd be absolutely fucking retarded to abandon the hybrid console for something that will potentially fail
>>
>>745443926
True but we are hitting diminishing returns on the current form factor. Switch 3 could benefit from a cradle dock that lets you use the console screen without connecting to a TV. Or even be used as a subscreen for some games. Not like Wii U but like have a map or inventory on the system screen. Pro controller could also have an LCD screen in it.
>>
>>745443926
continuing on the hybrid console path is also retarded, because it's already getting stale and people are not impressed anymore, if they do another switch for their next gen, then they'll see an exodus of people going to PC
>>
>>745440073
unironically yes, the wii was basically just an overclocked gamecube
>>
>>745444441
>Or even be used as a subscreen for some games.
We already have gameshare but developers don't seem to want to use it. I'd actually love to see developers exploring what they can do with this.
>>
>>745444575
Devs don't want to use gameshare because it means users won't buy extra copies for multiplayer games. You don't need gameshare to use the system as an aux screen connected to the dock.
>>
>>745440660
It's still early into its life cycle.
Maybe Nintendogs will return in the next Direct.
>>
>>745437110
>by 2031
I also share the outlook that AI will undoubtly replace everyone and everything eventually but with the rate of its growth, Id say 2040s is when we will have games you can just dream up and poof into playable form. 2030s will be the gradual merge from the dystopian shekle slave hellhole we currently reside in to the utopia wall-e no work, absolute freedom paradise where we have endless rich content to consoom from dream to reality devices. Or we nosedive into ww3 where ai takes control and causes nukes to drop everywhere.
>>
>>745444865
Gameshare for multiplayer is one thing, anon was talking about a second screen for one player. The possibility is already there.
>>
they're going to break the seal on VR.
I imagine it'll be cheap enough to produce an okayish VR headset by the time they get around to their next console (which could be ten years from now, for all we know).
Having a console that has mandatory VR integration seems like a very Nintendo sort of thing to do.
>>
>>745436928
I really hope so because i want to keep my switch library next generation

>>745437065
>let's make the handheld impossible to hold

Handhelds just aren't going anywhere because the tech isn't there. You can't just magically get better performance and battery life at an affordable price
>>
Whatever it is, it'll be much more gayer than the current thing.
>>
>>745445197
That didn't stop anyone from buying a switch, switch 2, steam deck, or any of the other billion handhelds with 2 hour battery and 8 inch screens.
>>
>>745444965
We're literally ahead of the AI-2027 scenario, and it's already pwning mathematicians.

Every year from now on is exponential not gradual like the past, 2027 will be equivalent to two years of AI progress, 2028 four years, 2029 eight years, 2030 ASI.

Make peace with your god (assumedly Nintendo).

>>
>>745436928
This might sound retarded but I honestly kind of want them to pull a Wii again in the form of a system that's just a very minor upgrade from the Switch 2 in terms of specs. Keep it a hybrid system backwards compatible with Switch 1/2 but I feel the Switch 2 is already more than powerful enough and I would rather have something with a nice, smaller form factor and better battery life like the DS.
>>
>>745449425
I heard that if Nintendo waited a little longer they could have put in a more efficient chipset in the Switch 2. I could see that being the move next gen, a more modest upgrade that results in longer battery life and smoother framerate, but not higher framerate.
>>
>>745449425
>When talking about DLSS not showing straight lines like trees at low resolution, this is an issue with the old CNN model (Switch 2). Newer transformer DLSS presets on PC can output massively better image quality from lower rendering resolutions. This is why it was sad when Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 with an Ampere (RTX 30-series) GPU. A newer-gen lower-performance GPU would have made it possible to output way higher quality visuals.
>>
Honestly? I dunno.
I don't mind that Nintendo has settled with the Switch brand, so a Switch 3 that's just a portable PS5 sounds great on paper, but right now that'd be expensive as fuck.
So I'd say they should stick to the Switch 2 for the next 10 years so things hopefully get better.
>>
>>745436928
Consoles aren't going to make it that far at this rate.
>>
>>745449773
Switch 2's T239 was taped-out in 2022 so it was never going to use a more recent GPU architecture.
>>
>>745436928
It'll be called Switch 3, because it is 3x the price of the Switch 2
>>
Guess it'll do better anyway, if it gets smell-o-vision and people can finally smell Tifa's armpits fr
>>
I feel like by the time the Switch 3 comes, a powerful mobile chip that has the same relative power difference the Switch 2 has to the PS5 and Xbox X/S will be so expensive it would justify making a standard home console.
>>
Fuck it, it'll just be Switch 2 HD Remix.
>>
>>745452775
I wonder if mobile tech has caught up for games yet.
>>
The gaming industry is going to be unrecognizable in 7-8 years, so it's hard to say. By the time the Switch 3 comes out, Xbox will be out of the hardware business and Sony will have gone all digital on their $1,200 PS6. Nintendo might get ballsy enough to release a dedicated home console alongside the Switch 3.

Depends on the market.
They could continue with the hybric console approach, just with even more gimmicks. They already tried to shuffle up with the mouse inputs but it lacks games to make full use of it. Double mouse input isn't something you could do on other places.

People like digital, it's convenient and easily transmittable to any platform, they just don't like the control over what is done to your data. You don't need to fight the digitalization of content, you need to fight the right for products that are functionally the same as physical games. Same with movies, same with music, it needs to be treated in not such an anti-consumer way. You purchase it, you get to have it forever, and the company can't stop what you do with it, that's the police's job to investigate. Companies don't track your VHSes, how should they be the one to keep you from your Data's personal use?

Right to Personal Data.

But no one believes western countries speak for the citizen in this way and so are angry at the inevitable instead of the unfit to rule, hoping to get along to get along in a world gone wrong. You fight these sisyphean luddite battles because you fear revolution, and would live life a sheep than a lion for one blinding day.
>>
>>745454483
The hybrid console is more than a gimmick. It's convenience. The only thing I can think of that would make the hybrid console more convenient is a SIM card. Especially if internet is going to be required to even play games on the go now thanks to always online bullshit.
