https://www.eurogamer.net/sony-ps6-internal-release-date-component-shortage>Console manufacturers are being heavily impacted by the on-going component shortage, driven by the proliferation of AI datacenters, the war in Iran, and accusations of price fixing. It turns out that these factors are putting so much pressure on console manufacturers that Sony hasn't even got a release date for the PlayStation 6 internally.>In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sony CEO Hiroko Totoki revealed that multiple parts of the Sony hardware business are being affected by the on-going component crisis. (https://www.wsj.com/business/media/sony-ceo-hiroki-totoki-efc8923f)>As pointed out by VGC, the article outlines that a number of analysts expected the PS6 to arrive in 2027, but it seems even Sony doesn't actually know when the console will arrive yet. (https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/playstation-6-release-date-still-hasnt-been-decided-sony-ceo-hiroki-totoki-says/)>"Totoki said the company still hasn't fixed a date for PS6's launch," summarised the Wall Street Journal.>Totoki gave a similar update in May, where he noted "we would like to really observe and follow the situation […] Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high FY 2027 [...] We must think carefully what we will do.">Safe to say, then, we're probably going to wait a while for Sony's next console. A console, no doubt, that will ship without support for discs and go all-in on Sony's controversial 'all-digital future'. >Despite plenty of consumer outcry, the company has remained bullish in its commitment to scrapping discs by 2028 (the earliest, at this point, we're realistically going to see the PS6 on the market). It's also likely that Sony is going to push harder into subscriptions and cross-generational games.
NOOOO
fuck gaystation
>killing physical games>weak hardware again>delays>RAM shortages>no gamesAnd yet the sheep will buy it up by the millions. How do we solve this problem?
>>745550859There is no need for a new generation when nobody is able to buy hardware anymore, not even new PC parts. This might be the last one as far as we know thanks to AI.
>>745550859every bit of bad news I get regarding the big 3 is delicious schadenfreude. fuck them for filling the hobby with woke rats then pointing the finger at us for not consuming their poison. they made their bed and they get to lay on it now
>>745550859Why do I need to buy a ps6, what games are gonna need hew hardware to run, that they couldn't make run on a ps5?
>>745550859Post >yfw you didn't buy a PS5 or even a PS4 or even touch playstation for that matter
>>745550859Nearly 6 years in and there's still more upcoming exclusives than actual ones
>>745550859Who the fuck cares?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_5-only_gamesThey make like 5 games a console generation and most of them are morality story shitposts. Whoa guys, we did like, er, TLOU2, and er, the revenge a heckin' bad! Maybe they should release some fucking GAMES for the PS5 before they release another console? Astro was easily their best exclusive this gen and man are Sony committed to not making games like that. They're fun. Fun isn't grown up enough for the retarded pseuds in arrested development, everything has to be heckin' deep! Moreover they want to ensure their next console is anti-consumer as possible. Second hand games? Go fuck yourself. Pay the full price for our shitty morality fables, pay pig.
This thing will probably cost $1500 or $2000 by the time it releases. Maybe more.
>>745551889The base version will cost 800€ but if they released it now it would cost 1500+
>>745551889ok thanks grimsby
So they announced new hardware before securing a single contract?
>>745551504had the idea ever occurred to you that this has all been intentional
>>745551648I stuck with my PS3 and then went to PC when Sony said if I wanted to play online on PS4 I would have to pay to use my own internet connection.
>>745551969imagine~
>>745551068it will solve itself eventually, there is always a breaking point
>>745551132Yet everyone is buying the $100 GTA 6.
Hopefully nothing has been made. Because the specs shown for the next gen are utter shit. The longer the better for the next gen. This gen hasn't had enough games, and could be pushed more by freeing up resources, like 4gb more ram to games, and lowering the res as much as possible. Not being able to see sometimes is acceptable. High res is not. Better upscale too, and not just for people with high res screens. And adding xbox's 12 bit colour mode, which works on every tv. Strange how that is rarely talked about and if said only by me, because it's an incredible feature that makes games look good, no longer dull. And doesn't have a performance hit I noticed.Any tv. Sony's deep colour doesn't work on some older tvs.Ram will get better and cheaper. It will be so prevalent it's used as primary storage. With platter hard drives as backup and readiness for power down.Should always use the best specs available for console generations. Ahead of what PCs have. Less is a bad joke. Worse than previous gens even more so.
>>745554312maybe they should stop putting "4k pores" and gay tracing lightning
>>745550859They should just skip the next generation and focus more on this one. We already have diminishing returns and dev cycles lasting longer than console cycles now, RAM is just another reason to extend the life cycle.
>>745554312you want shitty pcports again?
>no games>no discs>no console
>>745551889And retards will still say it's better than getting a PC. There's people buying the Steam Machine when you can get a prebuilt that runs better at the same price. "But it's so tiny!!" Fucking retards. They say I shouldn't care but it absolutely does, because this kind of retardation always drives up the prices for everything else. Just look at what happened when they charged $1000 for an iPhone and people bought it anyways.
>>745552159>the big three consoles want to have their next gen have whatever mid components they can get their hands on so they can have a bunch of four-digit-pricetag units shelfwarming while people lose jobs and struggle to pay for their basic needsHow does that benefit them?
>>745551723there is precisely 0% chance DOA will be a PS5 exclusive
>>745550859>RAM Crisis>all the semi-conductor industry capacity is around 2% combinedNot wonder Elon musk wants to build its new Chip Empire because TSMC, samsung and HK hynix can't increase the supply.
>>745553281If that was the case nobody would have bought a PS5. Or 3. Brand power is just too strong.
>>745550859lol I don't believe them. They say they're not gonna do a price increase, price increase happens next week. Sony are notorious liars.
>>745550859Makes sense but the PS6 is in development as we speak. Make no mistake. We know from Sony and AMD themselves the PS6 is a CDNA1/RDNA5 and Ryzen 10700X spec console and even there's a rumoured 10700X3D too (Maybe we get a Pro console out the gate this time). We also know it needs to at the very least be 32GB unified GDDR7 RAM without the other RAM it has for another tasks like the PS4 Pro and PS5 Pro.
>>745550859There is no appetite for a new console and won't be for years to come
>>745554823benefit?
>>745551607GTA 6's 60 fps re-release :)
>>745551607Every single Unreal game
>>745555270>32GB unified GDDR7 RAMRealistically?
>>745551068The PS6 will be DOA. All the yearly ball and gun games will be crossgen for the first 4 years. With the PS5 version being good enough for most people. There's no reason to upgrade when the console will be $1200 and offer a marginal performance boost. We've hit the ceiling on graphics and resolution.
>>745550859There doesn't need to be a PS6. Graphics have peaked in importance long ago.
>>745550859So what will be the benefits over a PS5 Pro (with disc tray)?
>>745555270>We also know it needs to at the very least be 32GB unified GDDR7 RAMSo you want the console to be 2k+?
>>745552159>had the idea ever occurred to you that this has all been intentionalNo because I genuinely cannot understand the point of destroying your industries with diversity quotas and demoralizing your population and dumbing them down just in time to be skullfucked by China.I don't know what the gameplan was for the USA to constantly bang the drum about homosexual rights in Africa to the point the Sahel States threw France out and buddied up with China, and I don't know what the gameplan was for making Saudi Arabia join BRICS, and I don't understand the point of making games for faggots while importing men from multiple patriarchies, and I really don't see the point in making sure your population will have no loyalty to the nation when you're trying to go to war.Has the idea ever occurred to you that this has all been simple incompetency from the kind of people who will spend ten million dollars on a missile that can be intercepted by a ten thousand dollar temu-drone?Has the idea ever occurred to you that nobody is immune to propaganda, not even politicians; and that they run their countries still thinking the USA is still the country that fought Hitler and ran the Space Race? That they're utterly unable to think the USA could ever lose because they grew up at the height of American Power Propaganda in the 50s and 60s so they believed the USA was strong enough for them all to scoop a little bit off the top to line their own pockets and that it didn't need an intelligent population willing to die for it?
>>745555926you guys think way too small when I say intentional
>>745550859Yeah if there isn't a break soon then the consoles are kind of done. I figure Nintendo and Sony will just stick with what they have. Nintendo may try and put more stuff on Switch 1 since it has the bigger install base. Sony will just stick with the PS5 especially with GTA coming out this year. Microsoft will probably use this to exit stage left.
>>745550859they are waiting for DLSS5 tech so they can get teh mind-boggling effects again
>>745555476Not today, no. But that was what it is supposed to have. In fact, I think it is not enough if it's truly supposed to be a true next gen console.>>745555784God damn Nvidia.
>>745555048You can't just wave a dram fab out of thin air, in a lot of aspects dram fabrication needs more r&d than normal fab since it's 2 processes that need to be tuned to get decent yields, you need like 7 years to build the fab and then another 10 to get it going. What we're using today has been in the works since at least 2008
>>745555926Have the answer.
>>745556836>>745555951Yes. I get this. What is the point of filling France and Britain, two nations with nuclear warheads, with a bunch of muslims who you've just pissed off?
>>745555481Yep, doomed gen. PS5 adaptation already took forever, and if they release new hardware now, it will cost so much that it will take ages to get enough playerbase on it to make it the primary target for new games. It’s just going to be PS5 Pro Plus in practice.
Why don't they just fucking SKIP the next Gen until things improve? NOBODY is asking for a new Gen right now when the PS5 still feels like a no game machine. Just fucking skip it
RAM crisis? Snoy needs to fix its games crisis before there is need to worry about it
>>745556592>in a lot of aspects dram fabrication needs more r&d than normal fab since it's 2 processes that need to be tuned to get decent yields,Well, they did a huge miss management buy not building more factores at time, they would've made more factories 10 years before getting on red signals with the AI and space program. Micron barely gets a new factory on the US for 2030.
why even release a new generation console when the current generation has been so lacking? ps5 didn't even come out that long ago either
>>745551889I'm a firm believer that PS6 will be a luxury product and that they will be supporting PS5 until the end of next decade.
Just release a PS6 with no SSD & RAM? Sell it for $599 and the customer can buy their own storage & memory. They could even sell their own PlayStation branded RAM & SSDs.
>>745559773then it will be a 3k or 4k halo product. A PS5 Pro Ultra of sorts that will get no games, only higher graphic settings versions of PS5 games.
lmao more like they are shit scared of releasing a $1000+ console
another playstation ad with zero gameplayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6Su0IfHRms
>>745550859>mfw I predicted this and bought a PS5 three weeks ago and a Switch 2 last year This is very likely going to be the last generation for consoles as we know it, at least for the foreseeable future. We've hit the ceiling. Iwata predicted it when he said that investing so hard into graphics technology is unsustainable and he couldn't have been more right. The PS5 and Xbox S/X will become unaffordable for most people, and the Switch 2 will increase in price but remain considerably cheaper than the competition. The western gaming industry is imploding right now because no one is buying these games that take billions to make, and soon enough no one but whales and addicts will be buying consoles when the industry repositions itself in East Asia and western developers go back to making smaller, non-government funded AA games. Essentially, this is the correction that the industry needed ever since the sixth gen.I welcome it, hopefully all the normies and casuals get priced out before the end of 2027.
>>745559912If they could plug as much as RAM and SSD in, they would have a PC
>>745551132Last one ever? No way. Last one this decade? Absolutely, gens are slowing way down because graphics progression is plateauing
>>745558978>why even release a new generation console when the current generation has been so lacking?Shareholders demanding growth when hardware sales hit a wall. If SIE and Xbox can't adapt, I expect that their divisions will become an increasingly smaller segment of their overall companies. Xbox will probably drop out or be sold off in parts while SIE's IPs will be whored out as TV shows, movies, and multimedia franchises.
ok this was needed, hoepfully it drives a stake between the greedy AI tard-companies and the digital entertainment sector
>>745558495Seems like everything is already in production or at least pre production.
>>745561118You done one big fatal error. Prices, they never go down. On the new world economy, prices only go up. Up to account for less people buying.
>>745558495There must always be a new thing to buy. They're also likely desperate to get a new console out since PS5 sales are slowing down significantly and are nothing like they were 5 years ago. This, of course, makes shareholders panic because big thing is not selling a lot, so a new big thing needs to be released to make shareholder happy. They'll rush to release something even if it's overpriced, because they're fucked either way.
>>745562419Somewhere between prototyping and preproduction.
>>745562756Yea, sounds reasonable
>>745555481It will have GTA6: Complete Upgraded Ultra Edition and it will sell billions.
>>745562615They'll stop making them when even the core userbase stop buying them. If they can't justify their existence, their parent companies will stop them from draining their resources. Xbox has already been on the hook for many years now.
>>745557402They think the nukes magically won't work anymore.
>>745555481>All the yearly ball and gun games will be crossgen for the first 4 years>4 yearslawl. Even last year's COD, NBA, and FC games were on PS4. If it took that long to drop PS4, imagine how long it will take to drop PS5. Not happening for at least another decade.
>>745554312>Ram will get better and cheaperDoubt it
>>745557402Muslims will never get control of those countries
>>745557402Why do you think THE JEWS HAVE FILLED EUROPE WITH MUSLIMS, YOU FILTHY KIKE?
>>745563958It has to. They cannot keep building these data centers forever. With which power grid? With which water source? If they try to hijack the worlds infrastructure for themselves what do you think will happen? The bubble is closer to pop now than yesterday. They already started fighting amongs themselves for who gets to be the more valuable and indispensable.
>>745550859What would you even play on a ps6?
>>745564316But the Jews already took control over all of them so what's another group of parasites?
>>745564447All games on ultra settings and pathtracing
>>745550859Sony could win the console wars just by sitting out the first half of next-gen while Microsoft spends a fortune to release a $1500 Xbox that nobody can afford lol
