If you are someone willing to put hundreds if not thousands of hours into a class you genuinely need to pick a class that you find fun. Damage/Utility/Buffs are nice, but you'll regret picking a class that you are just forcing yourself to play when it comes to the actual grind maplestory is. That being said I don't think any of the thieves or mages are bad picks and I could see myself playing all of them. I'm personally picking warrior because it clicks with me and I also feel it's an extremely safe pick whatever comes at 3rd job and 4th job and future content regardless which one of them you pick.You can check out the classes at youtube and see if they look cool. Do take notice skills are going to be changed and something like FMA spam is likely not going to happen with mages. But these videos can still provide you with the visual looks of a class and how it looks in the old maplestory to atleast give a rough example.

I do think it's still playable and yet again have to point out that jumping around throwing stars feels mobile and fun so it feels nice to play. It is just hard to say at the currently since 3rd job stuff especially can still change and we know nothing about 4th job which is likely coming even if much later.I don't think you can go wrong with hermit honestly if you enjoy the throwing stars while jumping around aspect of the class. It is not as strong as it was before and has been hit in a lot of places which I don't personally think is necessary, but it's far from being a "bad/dead class".Ice/Lighting mage did get changed where cold damage does not freeze anymore, which again might or might not change we do not know. I consider I/L mage to be a solid choice just because I think about the long term and chain lightning is fun even if this is far off into the future 4th job stuff. This is another class I think works and you wouldn't regret rolling it. Teleport and being able to telecast(teleport+cast skill) feels fun and having range is also nice.
