I still fail to understand who's the primary audience for this trash. Who exactly says "Yep, I want to spend $50000 on an autistic hyper realistic sci-fi space sim" that probably won't ever get finished anyway. It's like the EVE online players. I just cannot comprehend who the fuck they are and what their average day looks like.

Don't worry guys, more yachts and a brand new office with another expensive coffee maker... no, TWO expensive coffee makers will definitely make the game more gooder!!!

My guess is it's not a scam but money laundering. That explains the cash flow that doesn't react to anything; it's stable and grows
Yeah, there are some autists who are willing to buy hi-def spaceships in an early-access game, but you can't keep them for a decade because they are old and fat and die often

Some of the people giving them money are mentally ill. For example on one forum I use some members are so poor they can't afford PCs that can even start Star Citizen and yet they keep giving their NEETbucks to Croberts for a JPG of a ship. They hope to live in their dream world of Star Citizen some day. In other threads they discuss their mental illnesses and unemployment.

>>
>>745580806
It wasn't as catastrophic as you make it out to be. I don't have any eggs in this basket but what I saw was some generic dudebro fps raid gameplay with some glitches and sync issues that's all nothing nefarious between the devs.
It was painfully generic and showing how unfocused the project is though. I don't know who this game is for anymore.

Unironically maybe. For what they claim they want to make one billion dollars isn't at all enough for how ambitious their project is and how atrocious their mismanagement is.

Truth is those idiots simply lack funds and it is really doubtful they will deliver in the end.
>>
>>745586058
even then arguably zomboid is at least something of a game, as hollow it is once you’ve a proper base going
>>
How the fuck are there still people who believe this shit will ever actually come out?
>>
At this point just play No Man's Sky. After years of updates, it's basically the game everyone says Star Citizen would have been.
>>
>>745586971
It's been that since before b41 and the game is kinda hard carried by streamers roleplaying and social media clips of streamers roleplaying in it. The mod scene and potential is also perpetually weak, too. Every time I check in on what kind of major mods are available it's always disappointing, nothing at all. Nothing compared to other games with huge modding communities but even making custom enemy mods in zomboid is apparently either difficult or outright impossible.

But that isn't how money laundering works. It's not like they're selling copies for cash in any meaningful amount. This is all money that's already in the banking system.
Much easier to assume that it's just a big old scam, or worse, they actually can't do better even with infinite money.

It's actually a lot worse. It's like a room of spoiled teenagers who have never had a professional meeting in their life. One of the dudes was acting like the "troll" kid who micspams and teamkills over and over and he's a fucking manager.
Blew my mind, only one of them was properly professional and he was thrown under the bus when the game was broken and he couldn't salvage it. It literally went to "hey i'm your host and we wanted to show you the game!" to "it's your show :) wrap it up" if you watch any clip watch this part.

During the real crowdfunding campaign, they got 2m. It's the real estimate of the interest, but somehow, in some magical way, they got ~50m+ annually. Something doesn't match. >Gayass grind quests for things like the armed walker thrown out, person responsible for the call gets 10 years in the CBT dungeon
>Move main focus from quest grinding to resource collection and processing with a focus on player crafting
>Organize factions into massive war, have retailers that buy war material in bulk as a sink for players to dump production into, use to control prices
>Write off the weird alien shit as an in universe legend because their current design sucks, start rework immediately
>Remove small arms lasers (they are gay and uncool and as such have no place in the game)
>Buff P4
>Triple range on large ship weapons and drastically increase their projectile speeds, fixing the small ship meta overnight

And boom, fixed.

This person is extremely successful and smart. In the past few years they started their own tabletop game and launched it, they run their own company that they founded, they are big dick in the industry.

I kind of realized what is my dream game. It is basically taking battletech / mechwarrior and turning it into space sim. Completely and shamelessly. Space ships with tonnage classes. Heat as a limiting factor. Modular weapon options for chassis. Even weapons can be a literal copy paste.

Add to that privateer start where you just have a shitty light fighter at the start of the game and you build up to a "lance" of 4 fighters and maybe buy a carrier to have more options for missions. And of course you salvage what you kill but have an option to travel around and trade too.

Well, I did pay $40 for their first round of kickstarter. Just enough for the 'game' if it ever gets to see the light of day, and a ship. I gave up years ago thinking this was ever going to be more than vaporware and have no sunk cost fallacy bias to speak of because at this point in time, I couldn't give a flying fuck about what I spent $40 on a decade ago because I can spend that amount of money on a decent bottle of scotch and still feel no remorse whatsoever. That $40 is lost to me, and until the reality is that either A) it gets released or B) nothing happens is about as consequential as choosing to go home after work and make a ribeye steak, or smoking some ribs. It doesn't matter.

I gambled, I lost, and I just kept carrying on. As one does when one loses a bet. Just turns out the bet this time around was seeing a game I'd really like to see being a big nothingburger.

Star Citizen is a functionally legal scam designed to go on for as long as possible while delivering the least they can get away with. It's in a legal grey zone that will almost certainly attract attention when it ultimately collapses, which is why they will want to be absolutely squeaky clean with all the receipts and have plausible deniability if dirty money does come their mind.
It's absolutely ludicrous to think they could get away with high profile money laundering for over a decade, fully aware that their business model means spurned whales will be wanting to spite them in any way they could.

If you actually meant embezzlement, then that's even more stupid. They're already paying themselves corporate rates with corporate perks to do pretty much fuck all. They don't need to swipe more money.
I'll reiterate; their entire escape strategy relies on the fact that nobody can prove they never intended to finish the game when it all falls apart and backers are out for blood. It would be utterly moronic for them to piss away a near literal get out of jail free card for some quick money that would be instantly spotted.
>>

They are using the CryEngine, like the one for Crysis. There's a reason they are showing and releasing all this FPS shit now, it's the only thing that works half decent. You will never have enough duck tape and glue to make that engine do a full on mmo space simulation. It can not happen. If people are very very lucky maybe they scrap the whole project and start a new engine from scratch to actually make a space sim with what are now outdated 2k graphics.
