We underestimated GAMERS!

Sony thought they could sell us games with no discs just because we buy consoles with no games

>Seething console warriors made some internet comments
Sony is finished. Nintendo won
>>

Some loud screeching will continue for a while but in the end nothing will change.
Digital only is inevitable since it's way cheaper and easier type of distribution than physical.
It's also more profitable for devs/distributors indirectly, because it basically destroys the second hand game market.
Even if non trivial amount of gamers sticks to their boycott (personally I doubt that) I am pretty sure that overall profits won't be affected too much.
That's why the suits aren't afraid to push digital only despite loud internet complains.

>Sony has started paying the Indian marketing firm again after Wolverine shitposting failed to distract people from this shit
>>745820116
Digital only is better as proved by the growing wave of piracy that was only quelled after the switch to functional digital distribution that didn't even need overbearing DRM and copy protection to be successful, but cloudshit will never be good.
The problem is that companies are using ignorance of cloudshit and consumer apathy to violate and ignore the consumer protections they are expected to observe even when selling something that they refer to as "just a license bro".

International Copyright and licensing has been a massive issue that has continuously degraded due to the fact that it is torn between bloated international standards, with corporations insisting on applying the privileges of specific countries globally, lobbying for parity of privilege scope between the systems and quietly ignoring any obligations they don't like.

Screeching will continue, because the EU is specifically looking into increasing enforcement of existing consumer protections after SKG was blocked by the EU commission.
>>
>>745819080
80 to 90% of these consumerist sheep's libraries are digital but only now do they get their panties in a bunch over disc production being scrapped
>>
>>745820979
nice statistics you have there faggot
could I see the orifice from which you pulled the numbers from?

People will all go to nintendo if sony don't put those discs out

>Digital only is better
For whom?
Even if corpos started to behave like saints out of nowhere, you'll still lose your ability to lend/borrow and sell games you own.
>>
>>745819012
Anyone who believes this is retarded. Consumers are cattle that lack principles. That's the entire fundamental issue with free-market/non-controlled economics. People aren't principled spenders, and Americans especially have no true grasp of what a boycott is.

They think a boycott is moving your usual shopping out by a week. They think a boycott is not buying a game at release and instead buying it a month later. They don't grasp that boycotts/consumer response only works if you actually stick to your guns until the opposition caves. If you don't wait out, you lost and they won.
>>
>nothing will change
Alrdy removed my payment info from my playstation acc.
>but you are the only one
okay

Sony will not reverse course. They strive to lose money on all their decisions. Why would this be any different?
>>
>>745821472
You can lose your ability to lend/borrow and sell games you own regardless of whether you have a disc or a download. The same legal protections apply to both and modern always-online consoles can exercise the same degree of control over both if they want to. The only difference between the two is consumer apathy and disinformation about what rights you have.
Cloudshit is significantly worse and should always be avoided, because it is always online and you have no local files, but there is no disparity between locally stored files that are playable offline, regardless of wehther they are on a disc or a digital download. If Sony wants to push an update that shuts off your disc drive or blacklists specific game licenses, then they can do that.

You currently can't resell used digital licenses, but in the EU you are absolutely entitled to do so, and it's only inertia that is preventing consumer rape from reducing or increasing.
>>745821709
The issue is that this isn't a free market. Corporations are operating under selectively enforced laws to gain significant benefits over natural competition that would fill the gaps they are leaving.
>>
>>745821285
How is it retarded
>>
>>745821709
Hit the nail on the head.
You'd need something like tranny Bud Light moment but situation is different here.
There's not alternative light bear crowds could flock to.

>They strive to lose money on all their decisions.
Nice meme anon.
How do you lose money whey you make cheaper HW without optical drive, upload iso to some CDN instead of shipping hundreds of thousands of boxes around the world and shut down everyone's ability to sell their games to others when they are done with them?
>>
>>745816947
the fuck is phantom blade zero
>>
>>745822284
>bunch of dudebros will suddenly switch to bing bing wahoo machine which is at least one generation behind HW-wise and lacks many games released for PC/PS/XB platforms
>said machine already has pretend physicals with no actual game data on cartridges, just download codes
who wouldn't switch with such overwhelming advantages?
>>
Also this isn't only about discs, it is about being locked into a single store economy that can ask whatever it wants.
>Digital only will make games cheaper
Weird how the first digital only game will be more expensive and hook you up with a autorenewal subscription.
Most physical copies I got for my ps4/ps5 were because they were cheaper than digital.
With physical competition that drops 40% in 3 weeks they can't uphold the narrative that games need to cost 100+ bucks.
If you want to scam me, you get no money at all. Also won't sell the console so nobody else makes an acc.
>>
>>745822740
>Digital only will make games cheaper
Said no one ever.
It will be cheaper for devs/distributors which means bigger profits.
Doesn't mean they'll pass these cost savings to their customers.

STEAM blurb: S-GAME presents Phantom Blade Zero, a fusion of classic Wuxia storytelling and exhilarating action powered by Unreal Engine 5. You play as Soul, a warrior with only sixty-six days left to live. Fend off assassins, unravel world-ending conspiracies, and defend your values with your life.

>>745823096
It's one part of the shill strategy to make ppl accept it. Just like demoralisation that sony is too big/powerful/stupid to be boycotted.
I for my part don't boycott them. I just don't give a scam artist money. Boycott would mean they could win me back.
>>
>>745823776
Ok I was wrong.
I don't browse game journalist sites much so I didn't see this kind of shilling yet.
>could
>random Sony-unrelated suit commenting about future ''possibilities''
Anyway, it's pure weasel wording with absolutely no guarantee so anyone falling for that bullshit deserves what's coming to him.
>>
>>745823776
lmao that headline is wild
>>
>>745822268
When I say, "free market" I do not mean a completely unregulated market. I mean a market that isn't heavy controlled. I also don't mean that socialist style markers are inherently better. Just was pointing out a fundamental flaw of capitalism, which is that in order for the best products to actually thrive and consumers to get what they want, people have to actually be engaged, conscious, and moral spenders. Jefferson once said America would fall without a moral and engaged populace, and as I've gotten older I've realized just how far the tendrils of that ethos go. It doesn't just end with what you refuse to put up with from the government, it also extends out into economics, criminal justice/law, and even congressional legislation. A lack of a moral and engaged populace is what set this country down the wrong track over 100 years ago now and it won't change anytime soon. It'll continue to worsen as cohesion plummets
>>
>>745823776
holy retarded
>>
Not it isn't and Sony doesn't care.

STFU.
>>
>>745816947
They likely still don't care. Vocal minority and all.
>>
>>745822676
Dudebros are the reason Sony can get away with digital because they only buy once in a blue moon whenever the yearly Fifa/COD releases. The people that post their shelves full of unopened games on social media will gravitate towards whoever is still offering some form of physical.
>>
>>745816947
>PS blackout
Lmao not happening
>>
>>745826282
There's this stupid assumption that 'physical' part is the most important and people would buy any garbage or sub-par ports as long as it has a box.
>>
Let's see the current state of video games
>Port Cucks have digital only for 2 decades
>Physical console game are barely working out of the box and need day 0 and day 1 patches to kind of work with most problem never fixed for months if not years
>Physical games come with codes you need internet to redeem too
>Physical games don't even include the DLC or extensions
>Consoles will refuse to play physical games if they don't have internet or the cmos battery dies
>Consoles with a disc drive have been almost always out of stock for the past 5 years
What's the point of physical again? It's been so eroded it's barely working
>>
The problem with the physical boycott is the lack of a current audience. It's not that people are wrong to value physical, but the kind of people that care about Sony's bullshit have already been leaving in droves since the PS3. If it wasn't Sony's PS3 era hubris, it was Playstation's move to California and subsequent philosophical shifts halfway through the PS4 era. The audience that was willing to endure all of that, but suddenly draw the line at no discs, is probably quite niche. It's breaking few backs that weren't already broken years ago. Sony's probably right in that their current audience doesn't care.
