Don't bother, you will never get it through their thick skulls that calling out Valve for the things it does wrong is a good thing.

Its sad PC gamers threw away this and their ownership for convenience.

You say physical on retail is dead for consoles because you can never trust companies, sure, but why are we all OK with steam's DRM. We should boycott steam like sony, until we get always offline ownership FOREVER.

Most of Steam's services use their servers to validate and update things like the license, playtime, cloud saves, achievements, etc. By manually telling Steam that you're going offline, it can change how it saves data so it can save that data locally until it has a chance to reconnect and update it on Steam's online servers, which would then be ready to receive all that data at once. The actual DRM involved depends on the game: some require Steam to have validated offline mode, some work regardless, and others will require their own internet connections separate from Steam.

No, it's a certain remote-muncher dog seething 24/7 about his competitor being objectively better in every possible way.
>>
>>745917746
>>
>>745918736
A long time ago, it was true. You couldn't start Steam, it fails to connect, and it falls back to offline mode. You literally had to manually choose it while online. That was changed early, though.
>>
>>745916523
Works for me.
I bet your pay Nintendo an extra Internet subscription don't ya
>>
>>745917692
You logged into a DRM client, offline mode isn't offline. It's still connected. Still not always offline forever or DRM free. That's not ownership of the games always offline forever.

Even if you turn off updates, they can still update it through hidden updates because it's a proprietary client, and they have the right to choose how long you can play the game offline embedded in the launcher itself.

It's not ownership it's DRM.
>>
>>745921817
>offline mode isn't offline
So if I disconnect my network connection, it's still connecting through the ether?
>hidden updates
>source: my ass
>>
>>745918841
You don't know that and that's not the point either.

Whether they have or haven't doesn't matter it's that they can and it's a proprietary DRM client. They can update the client in any way they want they can specify how long you can play offline you have no control over the game you don't own it.

You should not give a company who uses restrictive DRM your money.

I can download my GOG game or a pirate of game since I'm not going to give steam money and it will work forever permanently with a guarantee you can't say that about steam.
>>
>>745921898
You cannot guarantee that the game will run forever because it's a proprietary client it is using DRM.

DRM free with no proprietary client means it's guaranteed to work offline forever.

>Steam dies
>Lose all my games
>GOG dies
>Still have my games
Simple as.
>>
>>745922013
Furthermore if you do go online and update games on the same computer they can sneak in an update that can completely remove all your offline access if they wanted to.

If you try to use a different computer to download games from Steam they can update the steamworks DRM API to make it incompatible with older versions of steam.

I say again if you do not own it DRM free and always offline forever you do not own it.

GOG
for old games
Steam
for modern slop

simple as. I don’t know why but older game are optimized way better on GOG
>>
>>745925696
GOG makes sure it's updated and has any fan mods that people would install from the get go instead of whatever the publisher/dev ship
>>
>>745925696
GOG steals community patches and cracks, and applies them to the game in the bundle. It becomes a frankenstein mess of shit you need to undo to get a virgin (like GOG users) copy.

If you take the GOG and pirate pill, then physical is just disgustingly restrictive. Show me a single sony or Nintendo game that openly lets you modify it and rip it apart, for the sake of modding and backup purposes. That means no DRM or copy protection of any kind.
