>make everything run like shit
>everyone keep using it for some reason
>almost none of them even use it for the so called special UE5 features like nanite or lumen, or at least use it well
>so literally take massive fps hit because?
>its not even free or cheap
so why are everyone using UE5 again?
>>
I hate when Japanese devs fall for the westoid game engine meme when they all have perfectly good in-house engines to work with.
>>
>>everyone keep using it for some reason
because it's idiot proof an relies on ai tools to do all the work
no coding or programming required
>>
>>745947274
because proprietary engines are hardly a guarantee of quality either. look at how people call katana engine shit, or creation engine shit, or hell, fromsoft is a piece of shit studio from a technological standpoint. with most proprietary engines being shit, is it really that surprising that studios are just giving up and using ue5? if its going to suck ass anyways, why bother spending tens of millions a year for it to be no better?
>>
>Mihoyo makes Genshin Impact in Unity
>It looks fine and makes trillions of dollars
>They decided to make their new games in UE5
Something strange is going on for sure.
What's Timmy doing?
>>
>>745947274
It's pretty easy to develop on Unreal Engine, and it does like 80-90% of the work for you without you have to do anything, perfect for outsourcing your game to jeets.
>>
>>745947274
>so why are everyone using UE5 again?
Because that's what students are taught to use, and students are the people getting hired most of the time because they cost the least and there's always more of them to hire after 6 months when the new guys start asking about raises.
>>
>>745947574
this, except not really students just devs out of work. low optimization and the death of bespoke engines is the result of high turnover which is the fault of capitalists trying to keep their employees' wages low.
>>
>>745947274
tim sweeney's engines have always been dogshit. id tech was always superior. alas, the better product lost, like in so many other instances in society. garbage won
>>
>>745947646
high or low wages won't really affect the final product when you keep hiring sub 90 iq women and browns
>>
>>745947274
skill issue within the industry
>>
>>745947274
>so why are everyone using UE5 again?
It's 100 times cheaper to pay for Unreal Engine than it is to develop your own engine for a specific project which may or may not even be able to accomplish what you want it to do, and sometimes not flexible enough to be expanded for future use.
>>
>>745947274
>so why are everyone using UE5 again?
pajeets can't work with any other engine
>>
>>745947274
>so why are everyone using UE5 again?
Because in-house tools (of any type) mean having to pay your employees for 2-3 weeks while they learn how to use them. With UE5, any future employee is expected to either
>A-Have spent their own free time learning how to use it
>B-Pay out of pocket to learn how to use it (College, paid online courses, etc)
In essence, it's to jew out 2-3 weeks worth of wages per employee (also pretty much every jeet gamedev knows how to use it, as >>745947497 said)
>>
>>745947727
Honestly this isnt even true anymore, claude could shit out an engine for you that prob performs better than ue5 for your needs

I got a good kek out of Randy Pitchford calling Borderlands 4 a "premium game for premium gamers" in response to it's performance issues.
I got the game for free because I bought a 5070ti and it ran like shit on a brand new 2025 PC, there are only two cards more expensive than the one I bought and they couldn't run it for shit either.
>>
One of the really funny things I like about Unreal5 is how it efficiently susses out Intel's defective 12th and 13th gen CPUs for people who own those. Like there are all these reports of people who can't even launch a UE5 game because the engine instantly causes their defective CPU to hard crash and turn the PC off with it.

>Randy Pitchford calling Borderlands 4 a "premium game for premium gamers" in response to it's performance issues.
Didn't it also get discounted like two/three months later?
>>
>game doesn't use UE5
>it's has awful performance and optimization like Monster Hunter wilds or Dota 2
I've yet seen any examples of anything being better.
>>
>>745947274
>everyone keep using it for some reason
Because it’s CHEAP. You can save millions of dollars and any retard dev can work on it and most people don’t care even if it is a shit fucking engine.
>>
>>745947274
because blueprints let you create stuff with little to no programming experience
>>
>>745947698
>You should hire sub 90iq whites
How about you go back to trailerpark?
>>
>>745947274
dumb faggot, the games always run badly because of nanite.
>>
>>745947274
even when you turn off Lumen and Nanite UE5 runs about 30% worse than UE4.
>>
>>745947274
>>everyone keep using it for some reason
Average normgroid literally does not care and cannot even differentiate UE5 from inhouse engines

Same shit happened with MH World, people just forgot. Some jap coder looked at threadripper and went "64 threads? desu ne" and made it use that much, forgetting everyone back then was averaging 4 threads.
MH Wilds somehow shipped without Level of Detail settings, monsters would be fully rendered at all times.

>>745947274
It's kinda popular because it's made for faster AAA development, it got a lot of shit for making pretty games as you said, it runs like shit.
>>
>>745950729
How do you know this?
>>
Didn't cdproject change to UE5 because training new people for their own engine was too hard?

>be game studio soulless corpo
>get to choice from
>having a "expensive" inhouse dev team that build&maintains&upgrade a engine
or
>buy/sub a licence for unreal engine and outsource a lot of work to jeets and save a shitload of money that can go to giving yourself bigger bonuses

It's that easy, greed has created this situation where all the big AAA studios are throwing out their own inhouse engines and are going for UE5
And it's not that UE5 is that bad, it's just that the jeets do no optimization at all and just do the bare minimum to have the game work.
>>
>>745947274
Corpos only know how to produce standardized uniform slop
and UE is pretty standardized
you don't need to have in-house talent to develop using it

That's because in order to make those work they adjusted the renderer quite a lot. They were doing it gradually since 4.19, you can see pretty big differences in performance between 4.xx versions of unreal going into 5. There's also a few other major changes they did besides those but nobody talks about because they don't appear in game options like vsr.
Epin wants to tune ue so large worlds don't run bad with minimal effort, this makes the whole thing less practical for small areas or games that aren't open world slop and lets studios hire less skilled "devs" that don't know the first thing about making games

If you look at Epics talks on unreal almost every feature is added with the motivation of 'now the artist can just do this without having to consult with programmers'. The result in a corp is now you have neither artists nor programmers making games. Just jeets and women who consider themselves as such.

Look at all the new UE5 horror games releasing soon which you won't be able to run

Literally every single one of sweeneys engines have been dogshit

Every single one

Go back to ue1, huge fucking issues. Deus ex and ut ran like shit

Go back to Ue2, huge fucking issues

Ue3, there were games that literally got cancelled cuz of how crap ue3 was. That engine debuted on a ps3 conference running at like 25 to 21fps

Ue4, huge fucking issues once again but out of all these shitshows prob the 'best'?

Ue5, unmitigated disaster. Wtf is this console generation honestly. It doesnt matter if i run this shit on a console or on a 5090 16core 192gb ram beast, i either have to take shader stutters on the chin or huge fucking temporal anomalies, poor framerate, fucking bugs, input latency, etc.

Oh and latency has always been shit on UE, doesnt matter the version. Audio latency in particular. I think like 192ms+ latency was a given up until 4.20+

Just dogshit really. I bet claude could fix 90% of the fucking issues in that dogshit codebase if you let it audit it. Its that bad. I suspect sweeney just stole the quake zq source when it got 'leaked' around 1996 and ever since then its been impostor syndrome with this fucker
