Why is procedural generation in videogames okay but AI in videogames not okay?
>>
>why is a strict adherence to a formula okay but hallucinating random bullshit not okay?

Procedural generation creates new content on demand while playing
AI is used to replace human-made text/images/sounds/code
We can have this discussion again when models get smart and small enough to bundle into games for real time AI generated content in gameplay. Until then, it's just lower cost (and lower quality) labor

You're both utterly fucking clueless and shouldn't comment on anything AI related until you educate yourselves, for fuck sake.
>>
>human makes pieces
>tells computer "assemble the pieces in a random order following these rules"
vs.
>human gets fired
>indian is outsourced
>presses the "make game for me" button
>intelligent thought not involved at any point in its creation
>>
Procgen
>create assets
>throw them into a quazi-randomgenerator
>final result is still your work but scrambled with extra logic

AI
>fed it some stolen assets
>shits out random gibberish
>final result is not even yours let alone the source material

Procedurally generated environments can be good if done right. Procedurally generated assets and plot lines are almost guaranteed to be garbage. It might be possible in the future, but the technology isn't there.

Procgen isn’t okay, it’s fuckin’ dogdookie. Tilesets I’m cool with, but fuck procgen.
>>
>>745950245
Procgen is shit and an excuse by lazy fuckwit indie "devs" to not bother with asset creation and interesting coherent game design.

AI is the same.

AI is indian
procedural generation is aryan

hope this clears things up

7 Days to Die I feel uses it in a good mix. Procgen for the overworld and POIs (like tiles) that create your towns, random houses, shit like that.

skill issue

The only difference is that procgen came out when technology was amazing to all, while LLMs came out after BlueSky faggots were ready to raise a neo-luddite stink. If LLMs were around in the 90s they would be beloved and used to make ever-more-sophisticated games with generated questlines and stories.

Because procedural algorithms generate content on demand during the playthrough.
Generative AI generates slop once during development so it has even less content.

>why if fun good but boring bad?

You didn't even have an argument, it's random bs statements that gets fact-checked so you should educate yourself or it depends how it's used. You say "AI is used to replace stuff" like it means anything but ignore that procedural generation replaces making a dungeon. It's thoughtless
