Because Wolverine embodies qualities that a 12-year-old boy likes, wanton murder, sex, not following any rules, shuns responsibility while everyone still bends over to suck him off despite being an huge asshole, while Cyclops generally acts more mature, measured, and tries to maintain an air of responsibility to those around him i.e. he's a boring adult, except since the 00s they turned Cyclops into a Machievellan edge lord which ruined the contrast.

All mutants except for like two suck at this point.

True. Kids look at wolverine and think "COOL", adults look at wolverine and think "ugh he's too loud, he smells, is he drinking right now it's 10am what a bum".

>>
>>745955470
Genuinely though. I see it this way, Wolverine would punch a guy out for catcalling his daughter or insulting his wife, Scott wouldn't. Most men these days are Scott without the good parts which is why they say shit like "when i was a kid wolverine was cool but as a hecking mature adulterino Scott is my man".

Wolverine is a deadbeat father that sired dozens of bastards, hangs out with more young girls than anyone should be comfortable with, and crept on Scott's girl for the longest, I wouldn't be using him as an example for being a respectable male figure even compared to Cyclops's lowest points, and he's had some low points.

Cyclops got hit real bad with the disrespect from Singer and then Disney wanting X-Men in general to not steal any spotlight or moral ground from characters in the MCU. Wolverine barely made it out because he was the second most iconic character after Spidey so constantly having Jackman portray him kept him relevant in normies eyes.
>>
>>745950616
As a kid from a non english speaking country, I knew jackshit about Xmen and even then I thought Cyclops was cool. Muscled, with energy beams coming out of his eyes. Wolverine was some ugly hairy midget. I also thought xman was the name of the character and not the comics and that Cyclops was that dude since he had a belt with X on it.

Why do the writers hate Cyclops and Spiderman so much? Why are those two always forced into fucking retarded, bullshit storylines where basically the entire universe is taking a massive dump all over them? Why are Cyclops and Spiderman always forced with the worst girls in their respective universes (Jean Grey/Mary Jane) despite much better options being readily available or even teased for a few issues before snapping back to the bitch whose only purpose is making them look bad and suffer?
>>
>>745958359

>>745958806
Because Psychics are either unbeatable, cheating, broken, transcendent mutants or the most useless faggots in the world with no in between when used by subpar writers. And either option makes them the most boring faggots in the story, the other mutant powers are much more interesting and are generally attached to more interesting characters.
>>
>>745950616
Anyone who thinks Wolverine is their favorite character would change their minds quickly if they actually read comics. Luckily nobody does.
>Wolverine gets forced everywhere to the point characters in-universe have joked his power is omnipresence. He will be in Japan in his solo series at the same time he's in hell with the avengers, in Genosha with the X-Men, in Africa with the X-Force... then you decide to get away from this annoying ass character by reading Guardians of the Galaxy, but Wolverine is in space too. Hell, even outside teams, you're reading Spider-Man and he's also there. All these stories taking place at the same time by the way.
>He's just there to be sniktbub and look angry, he doesn't do anything, has no personality outside of his own series.
>Self-healing powers, making him the designated jobber for every team. Villain claims to be the most powerful being ever, how do we test it? Fire a beam towards Wolverine, he can take it.

it's literally a school for special needs outcast minorities made up of multi racial misfits because normal society can't accept them as normal human
>>
>>745950616
isn't Cyclops or the Summers family basically a living portal to hell? when he opens his eyes his technically opening the gate to a dimension or planet made up of unlimited turbulent kinetic energy / force
>>
>>745950616
I used to do the same but now i learned only cyclops is the only decent mutant a d everyone else is an asshole that deserves the neck collar, specially telepaths
>>
>>745958627
Paul was a humiliation ritual but in general the point of being Spider-Man is you can't have a normal life, it's simple but effective. However, it's also highly repetitive which is why they keep escalating the retardation that gets in the way of Peter having some normalcy. Scott on the other hand is way more grounded because no secret identity, but x-men suffered some really retarded storylines in the past couple decades. That said, his love life is in much better shape and if anything, he's the one who ruins it for himself.
>>
>>745951805
That was like the entire 90s/00s which was the peak of Wolverine's popularity, where he's on everybody's team, is everybody's friend, and sleeps with every woman in Marvel, he was absolutely sucked off. Even in an event called Age of Ultron, the damn thing was practically about Wolverine. Even Spider-Man, Marvel's biggest character by a light year for nearly half a century never received as much glaze as Wolverine did back in his heyday, you really have no idea how much his character was sucked off.
>>
>>745950616
He works well as the alternate leader of the X-Men that can do on the ground operations for Professor X who is wheelchair bound but sees into the future. Wolverine is too much of an edgy hothead to be a definitive leader for them.

Why does it seem that the only difference between a "good" telepath and a bad telepath in Marvel is just the frequency with which they use their powers to do awful things? Like is there really that much different between someone like Charles Xavier and Purple Man when both have used their powers to get women to sleep with them?
>>
>>745950616
They're both washed so it doesn't matter, Wolverine has been the same static character since the 90s, Cyclops had a bit of a character change but they it just kept getting worse and worse with whatever trash events marvel writers were cooking in the 2000-2010s, then the absolute dogshit that was Krakoa happened and now the reputation of every single X-Men in existence has been tarnished because some stupid writers decided that instead of going for the "here's why this whole thing was dangerous and should fail" went for the "it was fine actually and was sabotaged only due to outside interference". Even the goody two shoes that people like to pretend to love like Nightcrawler are now tarnished by working alongside mass murderer.

MJ is literally the best non super significant other a hero could ask for. Supportive, kind, helpful, independent, attractive and brings in enough money that they can survive if he cant work. Other than eras where Peter isnt allowed happiness, she's an ideal girlfriend/wife.
Jean is whatever, she's fine with a good writer but usually she's just Sue but worse.

Since this is the /co/ thread: I'm thinking about branching out from manga into comics. What is a good series that doesn't require me to read five other comics and a wiki to understand the plot, and has a clear beginning and end to the story. Artist and writer suggestions would also be nice.

Cheating for women is vamping emotions and support as much as it is sex, anon. One leads to the other. This is why you hear so many married guys getting blindsided by headaches leading to dead beds. It's because they're getting the whore wife is getting their emotional validation somewhere else. It's cheating, and it makes Rogue a gigawhore.

Marvel is just too weird to me with the whole time compression thing. Spider-Man is supposed to be the same Spider-Man from the 60s and almost every story in the main comics still happened and is still canon. There's no way you keep Peter young and maintain the status quo for half a century without stuff like deals with the devil or magic spells to brainwash the whole world. DC makes more sense to me, when things start to get too crazy you just reboot the universe and start everything from scratch in the modern era.
>>
>>745966030
So, again, she is the X-men's ultimate turned out ran-through mega whore because she will sleep with literally everybody she can bar none? Can you just type that for me so I can know you understand the conclusion we have both arrived at?
>>
>>745966030
>>
>>745966043
Its not (just) time compression, its shifting timeline. Unless a character is explicitly tied to a certain real world event, such as World War 2 and Cap or Magneto, they are X years old, and their origin was Y years ago, with the big event being Z years ago, regardless of the current year, and you just assume the real world implications for those events have occurred.

Hurting him physically anon. This isnt an emotional manipulation thing, this is severe mental trauma manifesting as fear of intimacy; she replaces real intimacy with being a whore with those she can physically touch safely.

Read some real comic stories. I know people have probably told you that before and then don't tell you what they are. I'll make some recommendations so you're not left high and dry.

Corto Maltese from IDW Eurocomics publishing imprint, all the stories are out now.

Invisibles by Grant Morrison has a few different Omnibus options available to you.

Sergio Toppi has a bunch of anthology hardbacks available out there of short stories.

Asterios Polyp always has a copy out there available.

LastMan by Balak has 6 volumes and looks and reads great.

The Arctic Marauder.

The Eternaut.

Any of Chaboute's joints.

All of these stories have clear timelines and don't get bogged down in anything other than the stories that they tell. You might enjoy any one of these, or none at all, but it's better than trying to ask a slopfag which slop to wallow in.
>>
>>745966238
That too. But I mean, Spider-Man has had Norman Osborn as a villain for a long time, they had many fights, Norman became the leader of the Dark Avengers at some point which lasted years I think, and at this point, if you put everything together, everyone involved has to be older than 30 at minimum otherwise the timeline of events makes no sense. That's just tracking 2 characters, realistically Spider-Man has to be in his 40s if he's supposed to have experienced everything he ever did, even if you compress it so that something like the clone saga happened in one week or whatever. You can't have Peter being written as a young guy in a setting like this without deus ex machina like literal deals with the devil.
>>
>>745950616
You really just post this non-stop in different boards huh?
The last time it was posted here it was 404'd.
>>
>>745966486
X-men is one of those franchises where literally everything that could have been done wrong got done wrong, and with these dogshit foundations, some of the absolute worst shit ever got built on top of that like some kind of fortress of garbage. Sometimes it really feels like people enjoyed X-men for what they wanted it to be rather than what it always was.

>You're from a hugbox when you don't want millions dead or make a spelling error.
>>
>>745966546
Oh, for sure, I just wanted to clarify that it wasn't as bad as
>character from the 70s is in his 30's
due to the sliding timeline.
The raw number of canon events for some characters is unreasonably high, and it corresponds to popularity due to prevalence.
To clarify, One More Day literally didnt solve any of this, because it in no way changed Peter's actual age, it just ripped MJ out of his romantic life in order to have ~30 year old Peter suddenly act like hes 19.
>>
>>745966521
Don't worry, I did. Even with finding Marvel weird, there's some good stuff there too as long as you don't think too hard. Thanks for the recommendations anyway, some I've never heard of. Invisibles I read so long ago I don't even remember what it was about, and Eternaut has been in my backlog for ages. Another good one is Hellblazer, even though some writers weren't as good as others. Has a beginning and an end, and Constantine ages in real time.

Honestly, probably Manta. He fucking hates Aquaman to a cartoonish level. Sabertooth worked with Logan when needed. He's a psycho so it never sticks, but there was some camraderie there. Ssme with Lex Luthor. He's an insecure bitch but when everything was on the line, he at least pretended ti play nice. Doom respects every member of the F4 in his way and adores Valeria. He hates Richaaards!!! but its a weird kind of hate where he wants to see him humiliated not dead.

Honestly, reverse Flash is probably second closest, but Flash rouges are usually pretty likeable so he stands out as a dick.
Black manta, though? No rhyme or reason, just pure hate. Cuts off his hand, tortures him all the time, even when kinda rehabilitated just fantasises about killing fish and aquaman, kills his baby son for the lolz. Guy's just an unhinged negro.

Hellblazer has an end? Maybe the vertigo line has. It's been reinvented a few years back in dc dark (wasn't even as horrible as you might think, even if it does have John fagging it up a few times too often). But yeah, Hellblazer is a great read, and I know his name is often anathema to comic readers, but to me, constantine started getting real good from Ennis onward.

>>
>>745968031
Don't have to be a mutant, but they do need some way of negating the effect. As I noted above some, Colossus, make sense. His power changes his anatomy in order to protect him.
Others are bullshit, like Magento who can just do that for some reason.
One thing I dont recall is her being with any of the numerous robots that run around, but that might just be a preference thing.
>>
>>745968170
Her iconic powerset of Flight, super strength and durability are from permanently draining Carol Danvers, then Ms. Marvel now Captain Marvel, of her powers and putting her into a coma.
>>
>>745967825
>Maybe the vertigo line has
That's what I meant. The original mostly self-contained series ended and they rebooted it in the main DC universe. The ending itself was a little ambiguous if I remember correctly he was killed but woke up at "The Long Journey's End" pub, what that means is not clear. but Constantine himself was already getting too old anyway

>such as World War 2 and Cap or Magneto, they are X years old, and their origin was Y years ago, with the big event being Z years ago, regardless of the current year, and you just assume the real world implications for those events have occurred.
It's easier to get away with it in Captain America's case since he's meant to be a man out of time anyway.

>pure "punch" energy but somehow don't work on his brother

The X-Men have excused off the top of my head:
1. The Hellfire Club a cabal of elites who murder, resort to human trafficking including children and have killed mutants either for being weak or for amusement.
2. Magneto...I need not say more and half the Xmen girls have fucked him.
3. Emma Frost and half the Xmen have fucked her.
4. Apocalypse who has taken over timelines and killed members of the Xmen or mindraped them and wants to genocide everyone not in his world order, human or mutant.
5. The Shiar Empire who have genocided entire species, tried to genocide Earth and have clashed with the Xmen routinely.
6. Juggernaut who personally tormented Xavier and has tried to kill the Xmen.
7. Mr. Sinister who has violated the genetic code of numerous Xmen, kidnapped and tortured or murdered mutants.
8. Godzilla.

I'm sorry but its really, if not impossible to see these "heroes" in a sympathetic light. Many of these alliances also happened or were alluded to pre-Krakoa.

Don't forget blaming the Avengers for Genosha getting annihilated by sentinels, despite the fact that it was another mutant that caused it and the Avengers were already busy taking on a much greater threat in Kang taking over the world and the whole thing taking place in well under half an hour.

Also neglect the fact that the Hellfire Club also bankrolled the production of sentinels. The same Hellfire Club Emma was a part of, but it's always been water under the bridge if you're a mutant committing atrocities.

I fucking hate how writers of today try to vindicate Doom in more of an antihero role. Makes sense since those writers were dorks furiously masturbating over Doom beinf better than Richards all their lives so now they want to make it legit. Doom was/is cool because he's a hammy, unrepentant warlock/artificer with a god complex that still gets one upped by a dude that couldn't care less about competition, not because he's a tortured soul.

I think MVC1 is better than MVC2 mechanically. The only tweak I would do to MVC1 is have a cooldown timer for assists instead of them being limited in number. Also, depending on the assist, the recovery time would be different to balance out the game as some assists are better than others.

Dr Doom is a more interesting character these days than he was in the past. Also, I don't think writers vindicate him, they just make his goals understandable. He's in the same category as Magneto, in that people can relate, but still recognize him as a villain.

more like common sense. It's not even like all mutants were on board with Krokoa or magneto anyway. If you don't like mutants for the problems they could cause then you obviously wouldn't like other similar beings who are really only different in name only. In many ways mutates and the like are worse because they generally breed true while bad writing has turned the x-men into a mystery box that can also flatscan. you kill mutants because they make more mutants

metahumans are made by hte same people making whatever is killing the mutants

it's like comparing a soldier to a 3 year old with an AK and an itchy trigger-finger

even that isn't a nearly extreme enough comparison since 3 year olds don't regrularly wipe out entire towns and presumably cities or even countries if they just get a good roll of the dice

imagine the kid who wolverine killed that turned everyone within hundreds of meters of him into dust just by existing, but he's in NYC or something. how many tens or hundreds of thousands dead instantly?

kill all mutants, before they're born. unironically. anyone who has any other opinion is a lunatic

The fear of mutants works because every other method of obtaining super powers is either
>regulated
>intentional experimentation
>being granted or taught abilities by another
>freak accident with rare materials
whereas mutants manifest arbitrary powers on an inconsistent time frame, with wildly disparate potency, all seemingly at complete random. Non-mutants needs some form of external stimuli to become a threat, mutants can be fine in the morning and explode in the afternoon, with a school full of casualties.
Even the Inhumans are regulated by the application of Terrigen. Unpredictable, but can be utilized in a controlled environment.
>>
>>745990770
metahumans make more metahumans when they breed and do it better than mutants. It's the same fundamental problem as mutants except they're more consistent and predictable I guess. Also the edgy ass ultimate verse is a ridiculous argument since mutant powers usually don't work like that

Mutates, such as the F4 and Spider-Man, don't inherently breed more Mutates. Mutants are genetic.
Aliens are just aliens, even if they have superior physiology or powers.
Magic can sometimes be inherited, but is more frequently learned.
Tech heroes can pass down or teach, but again, that isn't random.
>>
>>745990807

>>
>>745990710
Wolverine's inconsistencies are more apparent because he'll get shot to shit by a squad of faceless dips and get knocked out long enough to get put into containment, then the next issue he's wading through a sea or molten metal but he's regenerating so fast it's not even a problem, then the myth that he's unkillable gets spread around despite a lot of evidence to the contrary.
>>
>>745991190
>Mutates don't inherently breed more Mutates
yeah they do at least based on how Marvel has written them up to this point. Hell sometimes it's worse than the mutants like with the F4 for example. Franklin is scarier than any mutant and Valeria has powers that randomly come and go while at base she's smarter than Reed as a child, yet people freak out over the man with frog powers
>>
>>745991484
>Franklin is scarier than any mutant

>>
>>745990954
>Also the edgy ass ultimate verse is a ridiculous argument since mutant powers usually don't work like that
NTA but as far as I know, mutants awaken their powers at random when they're teenagers. Someone like Cyclops could wake up one day, open their eyes, and destroy a whole building at minimum before even understanding what's happening.
>>
>>745991484
Valeria, to my knowledge, does not have powers. She has tech and magic, as she is a reflection of Doom. Franklin is also a mutant. It's possible both have been retconned.

Mutant powers take build up and development to be super dangerous (or at least used to). Mutants definitely can cause some damage though nothing like the ultimate universe example people bring up upon awakening. If however you have things like cerebro to track awakening mutants you can reduce the damage to be minimal. Education about it can also help and most mutant powers don't cause much damage with intent at least. It's like saying kill all humans because a serial killer could be born. Now I do think mutants would cause problems even with humans gone because the difference in power between mutants is vast, so now you got my hero academia except a lot more people are all for one level or stronger.

Oh its a great change, I like that she has that ability, and it comes with the downside of being unable to use her psychic powers. It's just funny, what are the chances a telepath that ends up trapped under rock suddenly has the luck to develop a mutation that allows her to survive it.
>>

>>
>>745994064
marvel fucked up with telepaths in general. They all have this universal skillset now instead of being more specialized. For example Jean used to not be able to mess with minds and was just reading/communication to go along with telekinesis. Now pretty much every telepath reads minds, warp minds, psychic link, etc. Powercreep in general has been horrible
>>
>>745950616
I didn't like X-men because they were all lame and gay. New Mutants though were cool.
>>
>>745992927
I’d have kept them in San Francisco when they were living on Asteroid-X, that was the last time they were what I’d consider good, with the added caveat that Hope Summers actually succeeded in reactivating the X-gene.

Cyclops had graduated from dumbass need to general of all mutants and was acknowledged as the inheritor of both Xavier and Magnetos dreams, mutants as a whole were being accepted by the city and doing the whole autonomous nation state thing more eloquently than Krakoa could ever dream of since they were focusing on diplomacy and making mutants actually liked by the general populace, but demonstrated during Secret Invasion and Dark Reign that they were not to be fucked with when Cyclops essentially dismantled the Skrulls and Osbourne in a quarter of the time the Avengers were dealing with it.
Plus it got them the fuck out of New York and gave the west cost an actual super team to play with instead of the usual B-listers
But all that got fucked up by Pearlmutter
>>
>>745993975
I'm with minor stuff like Cyclops' geometry hacks, or tradeoffs like Emma not being able to use telepathy in hier diamond form. But everything related to apocalypse's upgrades is needlessly convoluted. Also, everything with Cable, and to a lesser extent Bishop. What's even the point of Bishop using a gun when he can just absorb and redirect energy? Or character's getting totally new powers from external sources like Jubilee turning into a vampire.
>>
>>745950616

Cyclops' power is boring and too full of downsides, he's just bland and has little personality,

>the current status quo is a ticking clock until they need to hype up the first X-movie under the marvel studios brand
It's not like Marvel comics were ever gonna be this massive thing again, but I think comics and movie synergy crap is a big part of why the comics suck so much. When I saw the completely ridiculous lengths they had to go to in order to plausibly replace white Nick Fury with Samuel L. Jackson it was hard to keep taking anything seriously. You just know a character who was portrayed one way for decades will suddenly have their personality and backstory completely changed as soon as they appear in a movie.

Nick Fury was one of the less egregious examples since that was literally in Jackson’s contract, though the comic they did the switch in was clearly a rush job, but it’s not like it came completely out of the blue

seems a hit a nerve just be honest and say you're just tired of the cuck jokes, MCU Jean is pretty much a completely different character anyway
>>
>>745994727
More like spider-cucks know nothing about a female character till they try and ship them with their self insert. Jean and Cyclops have been a pair ever since the original run, they spent years in the future as Slim and Red raising their son Nate. The Phoenix is linked to Jean and Cyclops and their offspring. Sure the dumb wolverine love triangle shit happened, but Jean chose Scott. Secondary writers that don't read comics constantly try to bring it back, much like they bring up Hank Pym and his psychotic break backhand of Janet.
>>
>>745995141
>Jean and Cyclops have been a pair ever since the original run
nobody has ever disputed that they've been a thing for ages retard just that Jean and the CyclopsXJean pairing isn't popular except with maybe literal boomers.

The Superman movie was good
Is just they started off the universe with tons of B and C list characters which is really weird
>>
>>745995076
My problem is that movie Nick and comics Nick are completely different characters. Comics Nick was this ancient guy using a serum to keep young. He was a veteran of many wars, served with Captain American in WW2, he had tons of experience. He also has a ton of sci-fi spy tech. And just like Dr. Doom, whenever he lost a fight it wasn't truly him, because he had his own Doombot clones running around everywhere. Movie Nick, while also cool, is more of a regular high ranking military guy, more grounded. There was no reason to replace one with the other, since comics are comics and movies are movies. The precedent it set is that they want a normal person who watches a movie and decides to pick up a comic needs to find everything familiar, and writers will have to bend their stories in the most awkward possible way to make it happen, but to me at that point I'd rather just watch the movie and ignore comics.

Marvel's Midnight series is their second swing at it, but only the spider-man one has sone potential. Vampire Xmen sound no different than regular and body horror F4 is also not really original.
>>
>>745995249
The only competition is Scott and Emma honestly. As they said Jean and wolverine is something writers are obsessed with but nobody likes it. Spider-Man and jean won't happen in comics obviously nor will it happen in the movies so it's popularity will die.
>>
>>745995536
NuNick had his own sci fi closet of crap for the limited time that he was able to be around before the writers decided to nuke Shield again, I just mean it’s not like they picked Jackson straight out of the movie purely for synergy, a version of Fury had looked like him since the mid 2000s

Yeah superhero comics are cursed with the only way for a character to be left alone is death or becoming unpopular enough nobody cares enough to write about them anymore.
>>
>>745995754
>a version of Fury had looked like him since the mid 2000s
That was from the Ultimate universe and that's ok because it was a separate continuity. Nick was just one example, Star Lord is another. I stopped following Marvel but it wouldn't surprise me if Ultron now was related to Iron Man instead of Ant-Man. Again, if they're gonna make comics for movie watchers, I'd rather just watch the movies.
>>
>>745995931
Also death doesn't save them either often times but it can give a break
>>
>>745995796
>>745995931
Just a Marvel issue. DC can have things begin, develop and end because eventually they will do a universe reset anyway which is a better way of bringing back the status quo. Not that they often do it right but the idea at least is better.
>>
>>745995953
>I stopped following Marvel but it wouldn't surprise me if Ultron now was related to Iron Man instead of Ant-Man
They haven't done that (yet) but probably because Ultron didn't stick around long enough in the MCU. What they have done though is contrive a reason for Hank Pym to be an old man like the movies, which is better than him being dead like he was before but still not great

>>
>>745998987
That's my reason for not liking Cyclops. It's not his personality, his power is just ridiculously one-dimensional. Smashing stuff real hard is like Storm using 5% of her full range of effects possible with her superpower. Gambit sandbagging constantly by throwing the least useful throwable items to detonate is somehow a more interesting take on a "just blasting" powerset than Cyclops, which is crazy. Wolverine being able to destroy stuff isn't even his fucking power, it's 6 knives made from special hard metal that no one else wants to carry for some reason.

A dude with a gun can kill the same people as Cyclops for the most part. Any MUTANT with a gun has functionally more range of ability than Cyclops.
>>
>>745997009
NTA but there is some truth on what he said, because for years in here and outside of this website, i have seen cyclopsfags preferring Scott and Emma, Scott and Rogue (due X-Men Evo) than Scott and Jean, the only times they make fuss about it is due Wolverine being with her or someone else that isn't Scott.

Reading almost anything from the Big Two will require you to accept the fact that they will reference things that you may not have read. 99% of the time the pertinent information will be soft recapped anyway and so it doesn't actually affect the story. If you're jumping into an ongoing the current status quo will probably be different from what you expect from other media, you'll just have to deal with that and pick up how things are based on context. Once you get over that mental hurdle you can basically start with anything
