However this results in a conundrum, since all Shantae games are generally standalone except for it, which is a direct continuation from Risky's Revenge, so you'd have to play that first. Risky's Revenge is short though, so it's not a large effort investment to play it as a prologue, you'd just have to keep your expectations low. On the positive side it's still charming. Your other option with this tactic is starting with Risky Revolution. There's a not immediately obvious thing, that drags it down a bit, but it's a good time and probably the second best Shantae.If you want something that's consistent and easy to handle, but doesn't have big highs either, Seven Sirens can be that gateway. You'll have a nice time, if you don't try to 100% it, which, unlike the rest of the series, turns into a massive tedium. Play the Definite Mode not the Classic Mode. Otherwise you'll be left with little impression of Shantae's vacation episode game.If you really like sidescrollers, then you can start with Half-Genie Hero and have a nice time with the least Shantae-like Shantae game. A deserved, fair warning though, it has good amount of content, but it's in modes, where you replay the game. Required: Play the Hard Core Mode first. (HGH's actually my favorite entry, but that's really rare for the fanbase.)Playing orders I would suggest:1. Revenge (Rg) -> PC -> Revolution (Ro) -> SS -> GBC -> HGH2. GBC -> Ro -> Rg -> PC -> HGH -> SS3. PC -> Ro -> SS -> GBC -> HGH -> Rg4. Ro -> SS -> Rg -> PC -> HGH -> GBCBasically all points of entry are good, except HGH. I bought that Shantae Humble Bundle the other day and played through The Pirate's Curse. Gonna start probably Risky's Revolution. I really enjoy these games. They fill this niche that seems a bit deflated in modern gaming which is basically Pulp Novel video games. The type of game that's pretty short, technically competent, doesn't overstay its welcome. Like old platformers on the SNES. Really fun without it feeling like it's trying to change my life or anything.
