>>745956067These long running franchises often lose a bit of consistency when it comes to fight choreography because nobody could envision these acrobatic combat sequences in the 70s so just having cool laser swords was already impressive and as it went along the concept of lightsaber combat evolved. The way I looked at it was Luke caught Vader in his old age, way past his prime but overconfident and convinced nobody could match him so he toyed with Luke instead of busting out big moves and it backfired. The new people aren't "better", just more resilient and committed. All the lore of Vader being a terror in combat is true but old age finally got him. That's my head cannon anyway.
