After Oblivion is when they lost a lot most of their talent, Fallout 3 and Skyrim succeeded mostly because it was built on the tech Oblivion introduced in the first place. After the Skyrim art director died and Soule left it was truly over.

Fallout 4 was exactly when.
It would have been Skyrim if mods did not utterly save Skyrim and turn it into the best mechanical TES game.

For me, it was never. They’re still the undisputed kings of game dev with the most hype for every release. Unfortunately, this “1 game every decade” model makes me forget about them whenever I think of good upcoming games.
