I like using mods.
Emulating consoles from before the 8th generation.
I don't have to wait for a patch to play my games at more than 30 fps if, for example, I upgrade to a PS5 Pro or switch to a PS6.

Years of enthusiasm have led me to upgrading my rig over time. I used to have a shitbox valued at $400 (was still basically on-par with the current consoles at the time). After upgrading it over the years, it's now worth over $4000 (after the price hikes), and it completely mogs any console coming out in the next decade. When prices stabilize, I plan on upgrading it further as I always do. Also, online play doesn't require a subscription past my ISP, and I get my games from a company that doesn't hate my guts.
I think you should view it less as an end-all-be-all purchase that will be outdated in a few years, and more as a modular device you can add on to over time. Stutters from particles? Upgrade your CPU. Too demanding graphics? Upgrade to a 16gb or 32gb card. Or you could, y'know, lower your settings. The games are just as playable. Point is, you could play all the games you want, now and forevermore, if you keep up with your hardware from time to time. It's liberating, really.

I know this is a bait thread but most games that are worth playong don't need a lot of power. The rx9050 got memed on for only having 8gb of vram but for $200 on sale it's a fine card for indies or maybe even some AA games on mid-low settings. There are way more of these on pc than console and you can still emulate a massive library on top.

Lower and middle grade pcs need to be pushed more because the consooooooomerism that makes people buy a 5090 to play stardew valley needs to stop
