Finally downloaded this because of the sequel hype, and you just shoot guys in an office building while being told a Zanzibart story? And the telekinesis is nowhere as polished or fun as the gravity gun from HL2. Why is this popular at all? Just marketing and muh rtx reflections? This is objectively a terrible game.
>>
>>745966821
As a brutalist fag, I enjoyed it a lot. Shame the sequel goes outside. It's a logical progress but I'm gonna miss the Oldest House
>>
>>745966821
>Why is this popular at all?
Because it's the closest we'll ever get to a AAA SCP game. And yes, even though I like it for what it is, I agree that it is ultimately a disappointment. I wish it was about containing individual anomalies during this huge breach. Instead that's only a very few sidequests. Doesn't help that the Hiss are a really bland antagonist.
>>
>>745966821
Obviously you need to earn XP and unlock and upgrade special powers, you don't have everything at the start.
>>
>>745966821
Would be a lot more enjoyable without the insta-kill telekinetic enemies
>>
Trying a bit too hard with the ragebait.
>>
>>745966821
Redit likes it because they are low IQ slop gobblers. It's a 5/10 shit console game with no difficulty, the same 5 enemies all game and no need to use any of the abilities at all ever as the rail gun 1 shot everything in the game
>>
It's fun
Flying around the place is fun
Lifting shit up and launching it at other shit is fun
The environment destruction is fun

i dont get it either, played for an hour and uninstalled
thankfully i didnt pay any money

>OP mad that Remedy game plays like a Remedy game
I understand you made this thread to ragebait but I'm pretty sure most people on here will just call you a little slow on the pickup.
Yes, it is gimmicky third person shooter crap with a tryhard story. Control is that. Quantum Break is that. Alan Wake is that. Max Payne is that.

Ignore those games. They all suck.
>>
reddit console game
>>
>>745968445
Thing is, I actually liked Max Payne, the story was straightforward rather than 400 documents with [REDACTED], the environments were varied, the arsenal was large, the gameplay was fun.

I guess this is for the Alan Wake crowd, I hated that game too.
>>
>>

Keep playing. Game is excellent.

It's pretty great. It's basically an SCP containement building/Warehouse 13 type of area. Really cool random lore.

>Obviously you need to earn XP and unlock and upgrade special powers
"Obviously", huh? Why are modern AAA games like this? In Max Payne you have everything from the start, you didn't need to collect 9000 "payne points" or whatever to unlock and upgrade your slow-mo abilities. And then gun you find don't need any upgrades either, you can just use them immediately. Who the fuck enjoys grinding in linear story focused games? Why is this here?
>>
the only good part was every ahti scene

It is the best SCP game out there, and I doubt the world will every see anything at this level again.

The sequel will be out next month. But it looks a lot more like The Evil Within.

story ok, lore cool, gameplay interesting but few decision fucked it so bad. im a superhero who tosses objects and flies, but can heal, nice. damage is also percent based so whatever health you have, doesnt matter.

>trusting soulless AAA companies to not turn SCP in to some UE5 slop with $70 release and $30 season
No thanks. SCP media thrives because of indie passion projects not because some corpo suit is trying to get his company's stock value 1.3% higher than last quarter.

Eh, you're not wrong. We could only ever really trust some indie ass indie studio to pull it off. For some reason, my brain immediately goes to Double Fine, but I feel like that's wrong.

Great game. Narrative, presentation, environment design, combat is all very cohesive. It's also the only big budget game that actually nailed the metaphysical urban SF&F genre stuff. My only significant criticism is that the enemy variety feels poor. It's easy to get tired of Hiss after a while.
>>
>>745971276
>It's also the only big budget game that actually nailed the metaphysical urban SF&F genre stuff
Play The Evil Within games.
>>
>>745969958
Secure, Contain and Protect. Fictional foundation is keeping supernatural objects, entities and concepts under wraps by being inhumane pragmatic bureau using class D personell, death row and life sentence serving prisoners as guineapigs, menial workers and so on. Think of Men In Black but for all anomalies.

There are opposing groups too like Chaos Insurgents, Dr Wondertainment, Herman Fueller's Circus of Disquieting, art ensemble Are We Cool, Yet? and meme nerds Gamers Against Weed

>>745972124
It's same concept but different enough. Basically Not!SCP like Control. The basis is same and to be frank institution researching and suppressing supernatural is older than SCP and 90s Men In Black
>>
>>745970129
But the game has a real story, it's just not a linear A to B corridor shooter, I can see why it would bounce off your smooth brain. Maybe a Call of Duty or Tomb Raider would be more your speed?

>>745972016
I think it got a lot of inspiration from Cabin in the woods.
>>
>>745972372
Yeah, this trope is probably as old as Area 51.
>>
>>745972016
>Think of Men In Black but for all anomalies.
Not gonna lie, in hindsight, it's really disappointing that the movie was just aliens. The comics also had general supernatural stuff.

>>745972627
>I think it got a lot of inspiration from Cabin in the woods.
Nope, other way around. SCP was 2008. Cabin in the Woods was 2011.
>>
>>745966821

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0QsHKH77MI

It's because of the song and the ingame setting that the player character gets the janitor's walkman to listen the song from the old gods letting her pass through the maze and the song is about her life and the situation. It's uplifting and cathartic
>>
>>745970739
Skill issue. You need to constantly keep moving and be extremely aggressive. If you get in their faces and rock their shit then the sparkles thet drop will heal you. You can also do a melee build that heals you on hit. If you're just floating around like a retard, then of course you're going to have a bad time.
>>
>>745973263
>anon notices the inorganic marketing

they do the same shit with Anal Woke 2. it's always the "oh my heck they're dancing to the heckin eurobeats this is so sovlful"
>>
>>745973636
I guess I don't find the same boring gameplay I've been tolerating for 30 hours up that point uplifting or cathartic because there's a buttrock song laid on top of it.
>>
>>745973745
You are right, it's a (You) issue
>>
>>745973815
Doesn't seem like an issue from where I'm standing.
>>
>>745966821
The side quests can be interesting. The mai quest is boring slop for the most part.

Also for some reason they put ALL the bosses except one in the side quests, truly a baffling decision.
>>
>>745973896
Dunno, you brought it up
>>
>>745971004
I've always been really confused about that. Are people mad because you're being asked to infer things rather than having it spelled out?
>>
>>745966821
One of the most Astroturfed games of all time
>>
>>745973980
Right? Again, the main problem with this game is the Hiss. It should've focused on hunting down all the varied anomalies and re-containing them. That's when the game is the most fun.
>>
>>745966821
The enemies were too bullet spongy and took forever to kill unless you were chucking rocks at them. That's the main thing I didn't like. The guns had a nice feeling to them but became useless once the shield enemies showed up.

Also, I felt that the game needed way more surreal/trippy elements and set pieces similar to the ashtray maze. It could've used some more enemy variety as well. The character model quality for the npcs was all over the place as well.
>>
>>745966821
its not that popular.
also you need to get to the doctor who hardcarries the game with his bullshit.
its more about the setting and design of several parts that people like.
Its ultimately wasted potential, but there is enough there that I enjoyed playing it.

Not that you care. You are just baiting for interaction because faggots like you still believe being a lying asshat is the only way to get people to reply.
>>
>>745973263
It's not just about the combat or the music in that sequence. It's about the cool non-euclidian environment that shifts an morphs and the visual effects. Yes, it's a linear on-rails segment, but it all comes together to male a rollercoaster ride experience. If you liked the game enough to get to that point in the game, then there's no way you didn't enjoy that sequence. You wouldn't be playing a game you don't enjoy unless you're a gigantic performative faggot.
>>
>>745969491
you do not have every gun in max pain at the start, shut up
>>
>>745974074
The original tweet was just joking about soulsborne NPC's saying cryptic things to "world build" but then Elden Ring came out and that exact moment was repeated about a dozen times.
>>
>>745974770
The side quests and the kooky doctor and Threshold Kids kept me interested enough to keep going but the main story was just plain mediocre. The combat isn't enjoyable enough for a setpiece to make it suddenly interesting at the 11th hour. I'm still flying around throwing rocks at the same enemies I have been for the past 30 hours, but now ohhhh non-Euclidean geometry and a guy screaming TAKE. CONTROL. in my ear, wooooweeee. And then the final """"""boss"""""" was such a fucking embarrassment that I realized people who praise this shit are complete idiots dazzled by...something. Haven't figured that part out yet. Brutalist architecture, maybe.
>>
>>745974975
The original tweet was a Borderlands writer asshurt that people like the minimalist writing in Souls games better than his own word vomitoriums.
>>
>>745974975

>>
>>745975134
Just because you don't enjoy spectacle doesn't mean nobody else can. At least you enjoyed the humor.
>>
>>745975814
Spectacle is meaningless if the core gameplay element isn't fun in the first place. It's jingling keys.
>>
>>745975194
He was, unintentionally, right though. Which was also the only time a borderlands writer was ever or will ever be right about anything. It isn't as noticeable in other DS games but elden ring had so many characters "zanzibart" that it comes off as a writing crutch. Basically an "Insert Grimdark And 3 Hour Loretuber Essay" here phrase.

No, spectacle is not just jingling keys in your face, especially in a video game. It can be something like Sword Saint Isshin in Sekiro, or pulling off a cool combo in Devil May Cry. And it's funny you post Roller Coaster Tycoon, because that is something YOU build, with YOUR agency. The game doesn't build the park for you then expect you to ooh and aah.

The setting and not-SCP lore carry this otherwise bog standard shooter. Hopefully you got this on sale, it's pretty worth it at 30-40 bucks.
>>
>>745976698
Inputting that cool combo isn't spectacle, it's an expression of your technical skill. Your reward for it is the spectacle of the flashy cool animation that does alot of damage and the announcer telling you how you're the hottest shit for doing it. If it was one button it would be the same spectacle. You personally may not be impressed by it if it was like that because the part you enjoyed was the satisfaction of personally pulling off something challenging. Check the map.
