are ys games any good?
>>
I've only played Ys X and Felghana but I liked both of them

I've played 1, 2, ark of napishtim and lacrimosa, with lacrimosa being my entry to the series. I'd say they're solid 7/10 games, nothing amazing but they are for sure fun. Of the ones I played I'd recommend starting with Lacrimosa of Dana since it made me want to try out the other games in the series.

forgot to mention the music in these games is fucking good

Yes, but play them with Japanese text/audio. The Engl*sh localizations of the official releases are dogshit.

I've only played 1-3 on PC engine CD and they're pretty fun
>>
all the PS2 era ones are solid. V is also pretty good for SFC. Seven and beyond are just terrible because they change the dynamics too much by adding party members. Ys became a casualty of the
>social gayming
push of 7th gen.

Only the one you posted and maybe the next game after it, everything else is slop that /v/ will try to sell you as a good game.

what's wrong with the english localizations I don't remember anything out of the ordinary
>>

Most of them, yes.
For the really old Ys games you need to have some acquired taste for non-traditional combat mechanics and other stuff, but they're great.
The only modern Ys game that is kinda meh is IX and still some people really like it

The one you posted a pic of was my first Ys game, and I had a blast playing that one. It was just pure old-school type of fun game. Awesome sound track too!

The earlier games have a weird bump-based battle system and also playing them in 2026 at modern refresh rates basically activates hard mode since the game is so fast. The games aren’t grind heavy, your progression based on gear works just fine.
>>
They're 7/10 budget-as-fuck action RPGs. They're not awful but they're not genre changing.

The isometric games are by far the best. The party ones are mid. Bump combat is dogshit, but the early games have a good atmosphere.

They're alright
Love their soundrack
